But yeah thanks for clicking on the tutorial hopefully I can explain American Pinball's Houdini to the best of my ability. This was American Pinball's first game. There's a ton in this game. The game yeah is honestly loaded. Invisiglass, clasps topper shaker um art blades powder coat uh a ton of custom mechs and toys um very very beautiful game um and yeah i apologize for my voice i uh i'm so grateful to zach and nicole let me borrow these games to stream and i'm trying my best to do a tutorial with everyone they let me borrow and i know this thing has to go back sooner than later so um but yeah bear with me hopefully I can get through it and we can explain this game yeah let's start where I normally start which is shots and layout so down here at the bottom let's go ahead actually to start a game just for some music why not all right so down here at the bottom there's a your typical in lane out lane so when you can spell film and that's how you qualify the movie modes so every time you roll over one of those inserts you collect the letter and that's how you qualify movie modes you can change the inserts with the flipper buttons then you're going to see the glowing magic shots on the left uh there's two magnets in the game they're under his hand and there's actually another one here under his face um the magic shot will actually spot you modes or like spot you shots in modes but it also turns on the magnets which can be very dangerous because it pulls in the ball throws it around it could throw it out it could throw it anywhere it's a really cool effect That's a very useful target, but it's also very dangerous So going left to right This is the milk can or the I think it's the milk canister This is used in one particular mode, but this is also how you get your playfield multiplier You can see the insert are the graphic there where you basically you want to go through that insert and then up the ramp and you can do that and you can Work your way up to a playfield multiplier So it's kind of a risk reward before you start a mode, which is pretty cool left orbit goes all the way around and one thing I saw on stream is this is a pretty complex layout a lot of people don't really understand how this layout works so hopefully I can explain it here as best as I can this shot or stage alley is actually a very unique shot it's either going to go up and pop around there in the in the pops or it can actually feed all the way through and hit the stage which is really unique before you start a stage mode if you actually instead of hitting the stage directly you go through this stage alley and don't touch a pop you'll get 2x you'll get 2x on that entire mode there's a 2x insert this is also how you like your light your lock for trunk multiball uh next one over is key lane it's another one that'll go up and feed the pops but if you click if you hit it clean go all the way through the pops there's actually a target there in the back um which is used uh one you can qualify your your main modes quicker by hitting that target and it's also used in some modes which is pretty neat there are little stand-up targets there's six of them so S-E-A they spell seance so that's one thing that's cool is if you miss one of the main shots good chance you're hitting a target that's going to help you spell seance and get through to seance multiball there's also three stand-ups here and three stand-ups here those spell escape that's how you do the jail or the jail escape modes these front three targets aren't very hard to hit but these back three targets aren't facing the flipper at all so you really just kind of hope the pop bumper something feeds the ball into that um and that's how you can spell escape then you have the main stage well you have three pops up here uh which all have custom mechs and chains between them really cool looking really cool looking mechs then you have the main stage the stage is actually closed you bash it and it will open ball go in it close and then what neat is it opens again the ball gone magic magic there There a whole subway system in this game which is really unique That how you going to start your main modes in the game There a little gobble hole here under the ramp That's how you start or collect your magic shop items, which are mystery items. The way you qualify magic shop items is the spinner here on the right. You hit enough of those spins, the insert here will flash. You go in there, you collect an item. But otherwise, once you've spelled escape with the six drops, if you go in that gobble hole that's how you'll start a jail mode or break breakout mode uh their hurry ups which are pretty cool then you have the right ramp the right ramp if you don't if you don't shoot it well will actually drop through this hole and feed into the pops otherwise it'll feed all the way around to this left flipper which is pretty cool um then you get probably the coolest but also toughest shot in the game you can see how narrow it is this is actually how you feed the trunk or the crate you are going to hit this shot it goes back here into the buck the buck sends it down this wire form which feeds the catapult the catapult will throw it back into the crate and that's how you serve the trunk and that's how you will start trunk multiball once you've locked three balls very cool shot very important shot and the way you like those locks is you got to hit this shot first and then go that way and then you have the right orbit but the right orbit has the spinner on it which is very important for the magic shop and also in a few modes especially the switch hit mode and then here on the far right is the scoop the scoop is how you begin say on multiball it's also how you start the secret missions that's also your extra ball shot so honestly it's a very there's a lot here it's a very unique layout and it's a lot of fun to shoot so hopefully that explained it a little bit you do see there is a right wire form here there are times where the crate either stays closed or the crate instead of going down into the subway the crate actually goes into a catapult here and launches it into that upper wire form um so the right wire form is not used often but it is there okay so let's start with the three m's right and so we got multipliers we got modes we got moments uh multi uh modes multi balls multipliers and moments okay that's four but here we go skill shot skill shot is you're going to plunge into one of these three drops and you want to time it based on what you're trying to do so let's say i want to spot the escape letter i would want to plunge and light it when the e is lit so let's do that let's fake it so that's how i got skill shot so if i want to spell film you see oh it thinks i have a ball that i don't okay so if i want to spell film oh i thought it was ball save is what it is you can actually move these around so let's go ahead and spell film so film is qualified if I want to start a film you can see the insert's actually right here so this is where I have to do the milk crate shot so there it is it's in the vuck it feeds the wire form check out the camera up there you'll see the crate open and it throws it in there uh really cool and that's actually just started my movie mode or my film mode film mode when you're in a film mode blue shots blue shots are your film mode shots so you see this here shoot scoop then shoot ramp twice that's what i need to do apparently so if you look my scoop over there on the right is blue so let's go ahead and do what it's telling me to do shoot the scoop oh being that i had secret mission lit this is actually telling me the combo that i need to do to get a secret mission so shoot right ramp and then directly shoot scoop so it looks like for my film mode though i need to hit the ramp I can just, you know, do that for you. There you go. And then, scoop. Not only did that complete my mission, but it also, I think, completed my film mode. Let's see. This is already on the secret mission, too, is what's going on here. I think I'm still in the film mode, actually. Yeah, I have a blue shot here. Oh, so the combo mode took precedence. Need to throw it harder There we go All right I guessing Oh no I did it So I completed the mode So that one film mode So, let's actually talk about all the different stuff you can do in the game. To spell Houdini, you have to collect all the Houdini letters. So, completing all the films, which I think there are five, is one of the letters. Completing all the secret missions, which are the pink arrows, is another Houdini letter. Completing all the main modes in the game is another Houdini letter. Getting all the magic shop items. So magic shop, you got to hit the right spinner here. And then now you'll see magic shop is lit. So to get a magic shop item, you have to then get it up in that gobble hole. That's how you get a magic shop. That's another Houdini letter. Completing all the rescue or jail escapes is another letter. Like there's a lot to each of these. So So that should be, that was one of my mystery modes. Let me show you escape. Escape is you got to spell escape. So let me hit the A. Let me hit the E. Now escape is spelled. Do you see that this insert is now green? So same thing. If I hit that gobble hole, now it's going to give me a hurry up combo. So shoot milk can loop is what it's saying. So I would need to hit the milk can here to complete this escape. You see how the milk can arrow is now green? if I can just you know throw it in there holy cow why is this there it is so there's like multiple escapes so you got to work through all those things to get all the different Houdini letters but let's go ahead and actually try to start a mode so the first thing is I got to get the stage open you can get the stage open by just hitting it directly. But remember I can either go straight into the stage or I can try this that shot where if I can throw it through there we go. If you can get it through without hitting a pop bumper then it's 2x mode. So let's figure out what mode we want to play. Some of these are pretty easy you can flip through like Indian Needle is just switch hits. The one I do want to show you is this straight jacket mode. It's unlike a lot of modes in pinball. So you're in a straight jacket right your arms are crossed so your options are either flip flippers or invert the flippers as well so let's show you something crazy i'm going to pick to the right watch my flippers they are going to default up i am not touching the buttons so if i touch a button that's how you get it to go down but if i'm touching the right button the left button is going down so you actually cross your arms and then play this way now why would you ever do this mode well this mode is worth i think like 3x the value of the other mode and it's a multiball so it's a pretty crazy mode I want to see if I can drain out of it here there we go so I'm back to normal flippers so that's I just it's worth showing you that mode because it's insane so now that I've done one mode how do I qualify another one red shots if you do what I just did which is actually go straight through the key lane and hit that. I don't have to hit the thing so many times. I can just go straight into it. So let's do another mode here. So this is Chinese water torture. So it'll explain. It's very good at explaining what to do. Mode shots are red. So key lane, And you can see the red shot is what it wants me to do. And now orbits. And then now the stage. But if I hit magic, does that count? Yeah, it counted it for it, which is pretty cool. So you can work your way through the modes. Very unique modes. There's a video mode in this game. Let's go ahead and get a multiball going, though. Have I spelled seance yet? No. So there's the S. There's the A. Now that I've spelled seance, you can see things are freaking out over here. Let's get into that multiball. It's telling me another combo I can work on. Because apparently I did combo two and I didn't realize it. So combo three right ramp right orbit then scoop Seance multiball what you trying to do is spell seance Now the magnets are on so things are kind of crazy So let spell seance If you spell it in order you get a lot of points. So to get the Houdini letter, you have to spell it twice. There we go. Now what it's going to show you on the screen is that we got a Houdini letter. Now the magnets are on this so there's some craziness if you keep the ball going yeah so that's seance multiball it's actually a very useful mode multiball you can bring seance into a mode so you can start a mode then start seance one of the other multi balls we haven't shown you though is the trunk one so step one is I have to light lock you can see it here so let's light the lock don't laugh at me You're laughing at me. And then, come on. There it is. This should, I think, start trunk multiball. There we go. Once again, watch a very, very cool mech. Opens up. Boom. Throws it in. That would be third ball. So, trunk multiball. Green shots. Green shots are your jackpots. So, there's one. Let's see what other green shots we have. let's go with this a little bit there's another jackpot what other green shots do we have right ramp oh geez there it is there's another one wow they guys pumped oh that was all we need to do we only needed to do we already just got our another Houdini letter so yeah we can keep this multiball going if we want. I think really the last thing I want to show you is the multiplier. So here on the milk crate, you go through there, and then you're going to go up the ramp. And now my multiplier is at 2x. If we can go through it again. Come on. I think you have to do this. there we go 3x so if you can combo that together you can really get your playfield multiplier kind of going nuts so um yeah honestly there's a ton there's a ton to do in this game um a lot of collecting magic stop items a lot of doing the jail hurry ups a lot of the secret combos or the secret mission combos multiple very unique modes to get through with some very interesting storytelling um two very cool multi-balls some really cool mechs um honestly i think the game's underrated i i i did not think highly of this game because every time i played it it was really hard or everything seemed weak playing it at a show but now actually having in my house seeing it seeing how beautiful the game is the code is actually fun to work through um there's a ton here there's there's a ton here to keep you interested so hopefully that was a decent tutorial once again i'm sorry i sound terrible but um yeah give this game a shot if you ever see it on location or you see it um uh at a show but um yeah i appreciate it uh if zach if you want to buy one reach out to zach and flipping out otherwise check us out every wednesday night or watch some of our other youtube videos so i appreciate your time and uh yeah have a good day Outro Music you
