Yeah, you got to act like a centaur and you got to act like a mermaid. You guys will be happy to know that was all on video. I'm Mike [music] Dimes and this is Pinball Shenanigans. Hi doggies. Oh, [ __ ]

All right, I am heading over to the Gravely Garage. I got to drop off a couple of things for my Twilight Zone Reimagined and check out Centaur and Fathom. They are both now set up and playing and I really want to check them out. We will see what else is going on while we're there. I know he also got a cool home version game of a 1977-ish Bally called Cosmic Avenger or something like that. I'm going to have to pull up the info on that because it's something I never heard of. You know, we don't typically pay too much attention to the home versions of games. There was an Evil Knievel one. There is a Fireball Classic one. That was actually one of the first or second times I met Kevin, I think it was. Uh he came to buy something off me at my garage and he presented me with a gift which was the Fireball home back box turned into a lamp with a custom stand that he had made which I still have to this day and I will include a photo. It is my faux back glass for my Night Moves cocktail machine, so kind of looks like it belongs to the Night Moves but it does not. And anyway, so that's what's going on. We'll see you over at the Gravely Garage. All right, back at the Gravely Garage. What's up, Dutch? Not much. And what's up, puppies? Hello. His son. You're taking the place of your father? I guess so. For now? For this video? While he's away? He'll be back at some point. But uh let's go check out what's happening in the uh garage. I did do a little sneak preview. I know what's going on in here but uh we'll show you all what is happening. So >> [clears throat]

medium confidence · Mike asks about the artists and Dutch identifies the backglass as work by Ferraris, then mentions 'Paul Ferraris and Greg Ferraris' as the artists involved.

  • Fathom gameplay relies heavily on spinner strategy in tournament play

medium confidence · Mike notes 'if I'm playing in a tournament, it's pretty much just spinner all day strategy' for Fathom.

  • ?

product_concern: Both Centaur and Fathom are experiencing intermittent mechanical/electrical issues despite being newly set up; Fathom showed unexpected improvement in performance between consecutive days without clear cause, suggesting potential electrical gremlins or calibration sensitivity.

medium · Mike notes Fathom 'working a lot better than it was like yesterday for seemingly no reason'; both machines described as 'before' condition requiring adjustments, repairs, LED work, and rubber replacement.

  • ?

restoration_signal: Restorers use resourceful low-cost sourcing strategies such as using Chinese checker marble sets ($5) instead of original pinballs to reduce project costs while maintaining functionality.

medium · Mike demonstrates purchasing $5 Chinese checker marble set on Amazon versus $32 equivalent on MarketPlace, framing it as a restoration 'secret' for cost-effective ball sourcing.

high · Mike provides explicit vendor links and recommendations: 'go to pinballdecals.eu.com' and 'go to pinballpimp on eBay' with clear endorsement language.

  • ?

event_signal: Ontario Pinball Fest is serving as retail/exhibition venue for Grazley Garage's custom furniture and restoration projects, with plans to display working pinball games and upcycled furniture pieces for sale.

high · Mike states they will 'bring maybe a couch or two and this coffee table' to Ontario Pinball Fest as 'our chill zone' and that furniture pieces 'will probably be available for purchase.'

  • ?

design_philosophy: Discussion highlights appreciation for classic 1980s pinball art and design, with both Centaur and Fathom noted for exceptional artwork quality (Ferraris backglass art, mermaid art package described as 'one of the coolest' of the era).

medium · Mike praises Fathom's 'one of the coolest art packages of the era' and acknowledges Centaur's 'rare sort of black and white and red art design' and notes artists by name (Paul/Greg Ferraris).

And I think it looks amazing. Looks vibrant and looks killer to me. I think it'll be uh pretty sweet. So, Xenon is coming along nicely. And uh I think that is about it in the garage. Knight Rider as it was. Yeah, looks about the same. But I mean, your dad is working on 12 things at a time, so Aw, isn't this cute? I'm taking that. I'm putting that in on myself. Okay. >> [laughter]

    11:02
And if you want some cool other decals, you can go to pinballpimp on eBay. There was a comment that said uh Dutch is scary. And uh I didn't really know what they were referring to exactly, but I think I know now. All right. So, check it out. We got uh ramp decal. That guy goes on here. And I think that is about it for Twilight Zone playfield progress. Yeah. It's looking good. I love this.

$5 um Chinese checker marble set. It's all you need. Shh. Shh. That was $32 on Marco. That's my secret. That's how you That's how you lap it up, boys and girls. That looks good. Yeah, looks great. Okay, so let's uh check out Fathom and Centaur. So, we'll play a game of Fathom. We've got the tunes loud enough that you can actually hear them. I The times I've played it before, it's just in a big collection, right? And it's just too loud. And you don't really get to hear it. Yeah.
    12:43
Now we can hear it in all its glory. So, it's been a little glitchy, but uh hopefully it'll behave during this game. So, I don't even really know the rules that well, but I do believe if I hit I do the saucers, it will lock the ball. Yeah. Mermaid trap. Just like that. I am again. Drop targets came up as they should. The upper drop targets I hear are sometimes not coming up when they should. But I'll try and hit that shot now and

Cool sound effects. Oh. Is it going to do the uh track mode thing?
    13:31
It's not kicking out the balls, but Centaur has this really cool track mode thing where it kicks out all of the locked balls. But anyway, that's not what it's doing right now.

I guess um Oh, sound effect change. I need to hit these two targets to release that ball and those three targets to release that ball, right? >> Yeah, and then I think the playfield
    15:00
Yeah, and then I think the playfield
    15:00
Yeah, and then I think the playfield gets multiplied. I think that left bank also spots targets.
    15:15
Okay. I think you're right. It spotted me that upper blue. I think you have to complete all three of the color on that bank to drop one.
    15:27
Okay, got you. Oh, yeah, so the three blue spots are blue and the three green spots are green, probably. That would make sense.
    15:39
And this this game's working a lot This game's working a lot better than it was like yesterday for seemingly no reason. Like it's kind of working perfectly. Yeah. Despite all the issues you were saying you were having yesterday. Okay, let's uh get this multiball the old-fashioned way.
    15:59
There we go. All divers are released. Mermaid. They're mermaids.
    16:08
This game confuses me a little bit. >> come up with a diver?
    16:09
    come up with a diver?
    16:09
come up with a diver? I think you did. It's divers and mermaids. It's all right.
    16:26
Well, I do know that like if I'm playing in a tournament, it's pretty much just spinner all day strategy.
    16:37
That's a lovely sound. Oh. We got double playfield. So, probably yeah, double with two balls and triple with three balls. And the special when lit is lit. Did I Did I get me a special? Actually available. Ah, yeah. If I lock a ball, will I lose my special? Yes. There's the extra ball.
    17:13
Here we go. Ball locked. Mermaid trap. So, it is a mermaid.
    17:24
This is one of the coolest art packages of the era. And it's actually a really great game, too. It's got it all. Including a hefty price tag. >> Oh, yeah.
    17:37
    Oh, yeah.
    17:37
Oh, yeah. Try [clears throat] to little rolling on the fly tap pass. Oh, where's my bonus meltdown? My audio kind of It said now you've done it. Oh, so I tilted. No, I think I was Yeah, okay, watch this. I'm going to I've got bonus held here. No, you got points though in that >> true. That is true. Uh let's see if we
    18:00
true. That is true. Uh let's see if we
    18:00
true. That is true. Uh let's see if we can hear this bonus meltdown because I think it might sound pretty cool. How do I get this up? Oh. I just got a free uh multiball. Let's go to triple. Oh, they didn't reset up there. Uh-oh. No triple playfield. The game might be breaking down. All right. Let's uh see if we can hear the bonus meltdown. There we go. >> [clears throat]
    18:41
Maybe now you've done it was getting extra ball, maybe. Oh, possibly. Well, let's uh tilt and see what sound effect we get now.
    18:51
    [laughter]
    18:51
    [laughter] >> I love that.
    18:53
    I love that.
    18:53
I love that. Death dive. Okay, so that should spit out and game is over. Fathom. Fathom. Okay, well, Neato. It's very neat. Love this game. Now let's try our hand at Centaur. Can we pause to take a 5-minute break? My shoulders are killing Yeah. All right, we'll be right back. All right. Dutch, your shoulders ready for uh Centaur? Okay. Let's let's just pan over the playfield here because it's very cool. Brand new playfield. And rare sort of black and white and red art design. Do you know who did the art on these two games? And or how many they made of each? Um nothing Google can't figure out. >> Yeah, I'll pop
    19:48
    Yeah, I'll pop
    19:48
Yeah, I'll pop that data. >> to guess that the backglass was done by
    19:51
to guess that the backglass was done by
    19:51
to guess that the backglass was done by Ferraris. Hey, there we go. Good eyeball. And so you don't need Google after all. Paul, who's that? F Oh, Ferraris. We got Paul Ferraris and Greg Ferraris.
    20:06
Well, that's a different Ferraris though. It's Ferraris, it's Ferraris. Ferraris and Ferraris. I know that was always confusing. Mhm. Uh okay. Well, let's uh see what we got here.
    20:24
It's got some really cool tunes. I've never really heard them until today. Here, you can take over. And the audio is cranked up pretty good too, so we'll get a good sample of it. All right. Oh, it's doing the thing where uh it didn't spit out a ball. All right, we got our trough situation sorted out here, so let's give this another a try.
    20:55
There we go. All right. Okay, we're going to try and get a five-ball multiball here. We know that you got to spell orbs in order to get possibly what? Two-ball multiball? Um I'm not on I honestly I'm not 100% sure. I know the the chamber the captive ball is important. Okay. Well, we'll just play a little bit and see if we can figure out what we got to do.
    21:23
Listen to some cool tunes and sound effects in the process. We quite hear what uh Centaur is saying, but sounds cool.
    21:43
Oh, I hit them both. Oops. Is there no tilt bob in this maybe? Yes. So, there is no tilt bob. That is confirmed. I'll try not to smash into Fathom. It also has these uh cool posts on the outlanes where you can bounce the ball back in just like uh Viking. I love that. Now I hit orb. The O and R simultaneously, but it looks like I only got credit for the O, so maybe I have to reset them. Yeah, maybe you got the R first. That's possible. Probably got to knock all down again and then they'll reset.
    22:21
Oh. Huh. Maybe that R is out. Well, maybe. There was two-ball multiball. This machine is going nuts. I don't even know what Oh, it sounds like it's trying to kick something out. It does actually.
    22:40
It's the before. It's the before. This is the before, yes. That's why these machines are here. Cuz they are not perfect. Let's try it and uh you think is there a magnet in this game? Uh there is. Yeah. Good things are happening. It's that red target in the back. >> and hit the red target.
    23:01
    and hit the red target.
    23:01
and hit the red target. Oh, there's the magnet. Here comes the other balls or at least one. Well, maybe I keep hitting it to bring in the other balls. You're telling me. Oh, no. We saved one. Okay, so This is further than we've gotten. I need to light release in order to get another ball into play. How to do that I have no idea. There's an insert here that's lit, but it has no text [music] to go with it, so I have no idea what that means.
    23:36
Sound effects are pretty crazy right now. Do you know what he's saying? Mhm. I can't understand what he's saying. So, something.
    24:04
Something releases power orb. Okay, what's that green light doing? Cuz they're both green. Okay, well I have um
    24:20
Come on. some I think decent bonus built up, so good to hear a possibly a cool bonus uh meltdown.
    24:34
Cuz this sound here is not amazing, but let's drain and see what the bonus meltdown sounds like.
    24:55
All right. Uh so I want to show you the um tilt sound on this one. Ready?
    25:08
No class, human. That's pretty cool. Hey. Last ball. My release orb light is lit. See if I can uh
    25:27
It's pretty cool the upper left zone where you got to hit the drop target via the captive ball. That's really neat. You can't backhand it. Don't even try that.
    25:44
I just want to try and release an orb. Or captive ball. Well, that's not happening. Just barely. See, drop target. Next drop target.
    25:59
Four drop targets. And now let's uh oh, there's another release up there. Let's hit that. Ooh, cool. Both are now lit. Let's try and do that. Special.
    26:13
This game is cool. Hey, didn't release balls though. But Maybe you haven't hit orbs yet or something. >> Oh, maybe.
    26:28
See if we can get all five balls into play. There's four.
    26:35
And let's go orbs again. Want to try and get release lit somehow. O R B
    27:03
Art, audio the layout the magnet, five-ball multiball. That's another rare bird.
    27:16
Oh, it's doing the weird thing now. What weird thing? Where the lights all go out and then the sound It looks like the trough is trying to kick or something, but that could just be I don't know. Sound effects. Mhm.
    27:31
Oh, I know what it is. It's the ball that's draining is getting staged into the uh The Yeah. >> a subway system. And then the balls fire
    27:40
a subway system. And then the balls fire
    27:40
a subway system. And then the balls fire out of this flap, which I can't lift up and show, but uh it's you know it's got that feature too where comes up shoots out of there. All right. So, let's hit that green target once in a while. And then I've got 5x multiplier, so it should be decent little bonus meltdown.
    28:08
I mean, obviously I cheated inside of it, but fun end of game sounds and light show. There you go. Centaur B 4. Dutch will uh chop these bad boys up. And maybe give them one more game before uh we send them out the door. Yeah, you got to act like a Centaur and you got to act like a mermaid. >> [laughter]
    28:31
    [laughter]
    28:31
[laughter] >> Don't shart yourself. You guys will be
    28:32
Don't shart yourself. You guys will be
    28:32
Don't shart yourself. You guys will be happy to know that was all on video. All right, before I go as promised, here is the Close Encounters coffee table that Kevin made. And uh it requires a lot of you know, messing around. You got to deal with like the shape of the cabinet, the neck, make a new lock bar. It does be shortened and has to the wedge has to be taken out of it. Yeah, you got to take out the wedge. You literally got to take it apart into a million pieces. Mhm. It's uh not just simple and easy. And you cut down the legs. And uh even added leg levelers. Yep. So, there's some modification going on there, but anyway, it's cool ass coffee table. And either this one or what's the other one called? Cosmic Ranger? Yeah. Will probably be available for purchase at Ontario Pinball Fest, so if you're interested in something super cool then just reach out.
