Heat. [Music] [Applause] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] What's up, internet? Welcome to episode 29 of In Before the Lock. You've got Rob with the Electric Playground and my man Davey. How you doing, buddy? I'm good, man. I'm just bumping my mic. How are you going, everybody? Good to see you, Rob. What's up? What's up? Sounding good, man. Yeah, thank you. Thank you. I've got a bit of a cold, but uh you're getting there. You're getting there. Yeah. Yeah. I'll I'll sound even more nasely than usual. Well, we haven't been here for a bit, guys, but we've been certainly paying attention to a bunch of mods that have been rolling out. So, this episode is going to be dedicated to uh I think about 22 mods we're going to go over if we can get through those. Um some really cool stuff. a pretty broad range of games. I think we got quite a few from King Kong uh because that's kind of the newest uh big dog in the house as far as uh Stern goes with mods, but quite a few D and D as well, which is exciting to see. Yeah. Yeah. Lots of love for uh DND in terms of modding for sure. And we got some deep tracks. Uh what's new with you though, man? You've been been staying busy? Yeah. Well, uh end of summer. Um so the kids are back in school. Uh we uh went to ABA and Australia this summer. So, it was uh it was very busy. Um but really great. Lots of great family time. Um and obviously all those plane trips and stuff, everybody got every cold on Earth. Um and we've just been passing it around the entire family and I'm I'm last in the queue. So, I haven't been feeling too well today, but I'm just taking some cold and flu and I'm going to power through. I hear you, man. How how those uh how those terrace treating you? Are you getting through it? Yeah. Ah, what a fun topic of conversation tariffs are. Yeah. So, um I'm all right. So, for whatever reason, Royal Mail, which is the logistics company that we use, um ma has managed to have a system in place in order to in order to sort of uh get the tariffs paid for cuz uh the imposition on all the different uh logistics companies uh in the rest of the world besides the US is that that the tariffs need to be paid for at the time. time the item ships. Um, so Royal Mail managed to get a system in place in time. Um, which means I'm in the clear, but unfortunately for some of our uh mod making friends in in Europe and places like that, um, and in Australia as well, Australia Post, NL Post, uh, in the Netherlands, I know Laost in uh, in France is down. None of these places are shipping to the US at the moment um, until they get these systems in place. So, uh, for anybody that is waiting mods, uh, for from our, uh, European friends, uh, just hold tight. Hopefully, these systems will be in place soon and, um, and we'll be back up and running in no time. A little bit of a delay, but it sounds like it's just a matter of them getting getting the process figured out. Yeah, I think so, man. I think so. I mean, um, it's a it's it's been a difficult, uh, thing to navigate, I think, for everybody. Um, but I'm sure, yeah, things will settle down in time. I mean, it's only by, you know, blind luck that that, you know, we've managed to to navigate it unscathed here in the UK. Gotcha. Well, yeah, it's a it's an evolving process, so we'll keep an eye on it. Um well, uh yeah, so I'm uh I'm excited because tomorrow I'm headed to Stern to see the new Star Wars game. Wow, man. Um that's it's been a kind of an interesting one. This will be the third third time I've done that, I think. did it for D and D and Kong and uh Yep. And you have to sign an NDA. Yeah. So, it seems like it seems like they're not gonna have Well, at this point, they're not going to have the game out before we get there. So, we have to sign an NDA that says we won't talk about But we are allowed to bring our cameras and record content. So, we'll be we'll be filming a little bit, but uh yeah, I can't really tell if this was by by design or uh if something went wrong. Kind of based on some of the streams that Jack's been doing. um that kind of imply maybe they thought they were going to have this all squared away. Uh but who knows? Uh I've seen it. Yeah, you you know that it's not getting released in Europe. I do. So that's crazy. Yeah, they're not shipping it to Europe period. That seemed to be like a licensing thing, right? Yeah, it seems to be. Um uh so I mean look I imagine that that has probably taken a lot of their time to try and you know work out that one. Um so if they are delayed in any way it you know it's probably likely that it's to do with that. Um and I heard the Cactus Canyon uh mod isn't shipping overseas either. Really? Cactus Canyon mod? Did you say? Yeah. You know the the whole the mod that thing? Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah, the one that was Yeah. Yeah, I remember. That's not in Europe either. You know, I I that's what I heard. On the other hand, I heard that that that mod kind of turns Cactus Canyon. It's supposed to be really good and it's supposed to make Cactus Canyon almost like Medieval Madness like in terms of like a a major mech to shoot for. So, that's pretty exciting. Uh yeah, we'll see. Uh but that one has taken a while for sure and they're shipping madnesses now apparently. Was that was that expo that we saw that? No, that was No, it was TPF, wasn't it? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This year. Not on our not on our mod list, but we'll certainly be excited to see that. Yeah. And then I've been kind of I you know, I keep talking about Potter and you know, we've been talking about Potter. I've been playing around with that. I got a I'll show you real quick. I got a So Ralph Retro Ralph sent me Y his um his Potter topper. I'll show you guys. Okay. So, and this is the this is the LE topper, isn't it? Or whatever topper. So, the first thing we wanted to do is kind of get a feel for like what's in this bad boy. Um, and there's a lot going on with it. I mean, there there's three there's three motors. There's one motor here for the owl. There's another motor here that uh something spins around the tower. And then there's a motor behind this guy. But what's cool about this is like it's uh It's got a really nice profile. It's got a really nice profile. Your camera's just gone dark, my man. Oh, did it? Okay. Um, okay. You don't you don't get any more of that. There it is. Um, but it's got a cool profile. Yeah. Yeah. So, you've you've you've already done work on this. Uh, I took some walls off of it. Yeah. But let's talk about that because it it looks so much better without It does, man. It's like it looks like I think I think that's what was missing was just getting to feel getting a feel for the castle and it also just made it really dark. Um just I don't know. The walls didn't work for me. It's very easy to remove the walls. There's no LEDs attached to the walls. Uh probably take about half an hour to do it. Uh easy to put back on. So if if I don't have the game again, Ralph uh was kind enough to send it to us so we can start kind of playing around with it. Yeah. Um, and then Dave, you and I have had a couple email threads and WhatsApp threads about it. I mean, on on one hand, we're both just kind of waiting for our games, too, right? Because I can't hook this thing up, or at least I'm not going to hook it up and and burn it up. So, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, I mean, it's it's Look, I think it's crazy, isn't it? Because, look, I think JJP have sort of got this habit of boxing in their toppers. Um, and you know, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I mean, I'm I think you were saying that you liked what they done on Avatar in terms of sort of boxing it in and making it sort of more of a diarama type effect. Um, but for this, like I think it's just night and day how it looks without those walls. I mean, if you wanted to do a very easy fix on this top, I just remove the walls and it's already like 100% better. Um, but you know, it's crazy that you know how much, you know, how many motors, how much electronics, how many LEDs are in this topper, and how underwhelmed everybody was with it, you know. So, there's obviously a fair amount of stuff in there and it just doesn't doesn't cut the mustard, does it? Yeah. I mean, the the castles themselves are molded plastic, like the molded plastic that you replaced in the back of uh Godzilla. Very similar to that, even a thinner material. Um, the light show isn't real special. There is the uh or the projector that goes up on the ceiling, but it doesn't um you know, do too much. So, I don't know. I I think the bones are there. I'm excited to explore, you know, doing some things with it. Uh but uh we'll see. It's it's on its own timeline for sure, but you you may see see more progress from us. We kind of debated talking about it, so we're not we're not trying to overhype it necessarily, but definitely Yeah. Uh we're putting some thought into it for sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And we'll probably be talking about it more over the next couple of months. So, um you know, we'll probably have some dedicated shows where we sort of look at it and brainstorm. Um, but really we just want to delay all that until we've we can put more effort and work into it essentially, right? Definitely. Definitely. So, uh, but just getting back to Potter mods just quickly. Um, you know, I think there hasn't been any Potter mods released yet as far as I know. Have you do you know of any? No, but I think I Well, maybe you were telling me. I think there's been some some stuff with like them telling people not to sell or what's that? Yeah. Oh, yeah. So, okay. Oh, well, there there are there is some I think the usual sort of suspects have sort of been released like shooter plates and things like that. Um, and flipper toppers and things. Um, but there was definitely some chat on Pinside over the last two weeks about people who had been sent cease and desists um for shooter plates that uh beared the HP logo. Okay. Um, which is really interesting I think uh in terms of the fact that a shooter plate is a very uh low priced item. You know, they're not, you know, this is not a big mod. you know, what it does mean is that the Harry Potter uh copyright police or the people who, you know, out there making sure that everybody, you know, adheres to copyright and licensing, it means they're out in force for Harry Potter. Um, and whether that's just an automated system that's like just generally scanning for all Harry Potter infringements and and sending the stuff or whether it's specifically uh people on the lookout for mods within the Harry Potter pinball machine space. I don't know. But it's certainly something to consider for all mod makers uh who are looking to sort of do mods for this title. And it means you will, you know, as always um you know, make sure that you stay, you know, clear of copyright infringement on this one. Yeah, I mean doing a cursory look at Etsy, which is always good to just kind of see what's going on because obviously these major companies are looking at Etsy a lot closer. Um, if you search Star Wars, you're going to see the Star Wars logo quite a bit on Etsy and I just did a cursory look at Harry Potter and I don't see their logo on there at all. So, yeah. That's obviously something that they maybe are pretty aggressive uh about. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I've been contacted by a couple of uh mod makers, and I won't sort of mention any names uh yet because they sort of haven't given me permission to, but just uh sort of I guess uh hashing out what it would mean to do certain uh mods within the Harry Potter space. So, obviously, Harry Potter is a pretty wide ranging uh story. Uh there's lots of different characters, lots of different uh artifacts and and bits and pieces within that space. Um and it's interesting to sort of try and work out whether um like let's say the train, right? The Harry Potter train. If you were to recreate the Harry Potter train as a mod, would you get done for copyright infringement on that? Like do they have very strict imagery? uh protection on on that on on that device or whatever it's called. Um and you know that can extend to lots of things, can't it? The shape of the wands um you know Quidditch uh fields uh the uniforms uh the you know the shields you know all this kind of stuff. So I mean um you it'll be interesting to see and to understand and to explore uh you know how much of this stuff um can be um done and how much of it can't be done. Yep. Yep. Well, we're getting a couple comments from Enzo and and not only is this statement true, but there is also restrictions on our intellectual property. So if you guys are thinking about uh hitting us up for some mods, like let us know ahead of time so you may get a cease and desist. Thank you, Ed. Um, well, uh, yeah, man. I guess I guess that covers everything non-mod related except we are going to be at expo. So, just kind of keep that in mind, guys. Excited to see a lot of you guys out there. Um, Dav, are you bringing any of you anything with you? You got anything special going on? Uh, I think, uh, no. Um, no. As usual, I I I like to fly around without having any um restrictions on my movements. Uh, yeah. No boos for me. I think I'm, you know, as usual, I'll be just hanging around your booth making a, you know, nuisance of myself, uh, Rob. Um, but, uh, we'll be doing a, um, a seminar with Bart from Masters of Pinball. We're going to do a seminar that's I think we've titled it, um, so you want to be a mod boss. Uh, how to make money from modding or something like that or how to become a millionaire from money. We tried to make it, you know, really uh punchy a punchy title. But essentially what we're going to be doing is just talking about uh as many different areas uh of what it means to be a mod maker. Anything from as exciting as 3D modeling and sculpting right down to inventory management, uh keeping track of a workshop, employing staff, logistics, all that all that boring stuff that's actually really important to get right. Um, we're going to be trying to cover all of it in, uh, an hour, which should be fun. And, uh, we'll probably have to skip over some stuff, but, uh, Bart's a really lovely dude. Always like hanging out with him. Um, we've not had him on the show, have we? Um, I don't think. No, we should. Is he the one that did that Chimmy Chunga mod? That's That's the guy, man. That's the guy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, it's a very lovely dude. I think you've you would have met him at was it expo last year? I don't have or at least I didn't know who he was at the time. But uh Yeah. Yeah. Well, I'll make sure I make sure I bring him over and introduce him. Lovely dude. Um his girlfriend was with him um last year as well. She's she's also lovely. Um yeah, we'll get him on the show uh at some point and u make sure if you are at Expo to come along and uh see the seminar and to ask all your questions. Uh, you know, always in time. Is that do you recall? Absolutely no idea. Absolutely no. Yeah. No, I need to uh Yeah, I need to ask Rob uh Burke when that's going to happen because I've got no idea. All right, cool. Well, uh yeah. So, let's let's go ahead and dive in. We've got links to all if not most of the mods that we're going to be presenting today. I think there's one missing link. Uh we may not get them to them all. We're going to try to keep it to an hour, guys. Uh but um to officially kick this off and I don't know if we've done one of these in a while or even if all. This is the most we've covered. So uh let's let's give it its due. [Music] All right. Oh, Dave disappeared. There he is. All right. So him and I are going to go back and forth. So So Dave sent me his list of about 10 mods and I had 10. And what I found really interesting was that there was no overlap other than like his mod was on my list and my mod was on his list. Yeah, that's we are going to talk about our mods. Uh, one thing fun thing we're going to do at the end is we're going to both share our favorite of the list. Um, not inclusive of anything that we've done, of course. Uh, but um that's cheating. We've uh I don't think we've probably haven't really reviewed each other's list too much. Uh, but we'll go ahead and dive in and uh, yeah, I'm going to try to do these titles so if you guys are flipping through it, you can check it out. So, this first one is uh, The Gorilla Stone Cave by Back Alley. Back Alley does an amazing amount of mods in the space. I mean, they've got a volumewise uh, they've got to be up there amongst all companies. Um, if you ever attend their their booth at Expo or TPF, just check out their table. It's awesome. Uh, this one's really cool. Um, I'd love to see this one in person. I don't know um exactly what effect they're using on this green uh on the on the skull. Uh but just to give you guys a look, this this covers up the uh I guess the the the scoop on the right hand side, the concave. Uh while it does uh dominate the space, uh it looks like because of its position, it doesn't really hide any ball path movement, which I really like. I really don't necessarily enjoy whenever a mod covers up the ball path too much. Um, so really cool effect and I know I think there's been a few people working on this area. Uh, but I know Diddy's Diddy's done one as well. Yeah, I think he's I think he's done a really nice job uh on the look of this. You know, you've got the face there. Um, have you seen this one yet, Dave? I have. Yeah, I mean he he's he's so prolific, isn't he? um uh you know just with he sort of drops about three on the trot. So I think it was this and the uh the skull waterfall at the back and then maybe there were two or three other ones um sort of down by the uh the water path uh area on the on the left hand side. Um so there's the skull waterfall there. Um yeah, he when he when he comes he comes hard. I mean you take look at Metallica. It's just like there's just an array of stuff. So, I think that's pretty cool because if you like what what he's got, then they're probably all going to have a bit of a similar style to them as well. So, great to see him giving giving this game a shot for sure. Yeah, absolutely. Great great mod. Really really like all that stuff. Cool. All right. What's up, Dave? Okay. Um, hang on. Let me see. Oh, there we go. Um, okay. So, I've got uh let me just switch switch screens here. Oh, no. You can Well, it is. This is it. Um, so I've got uh Oh, cool. Yeah. Yeah. I got you. Yeah. Yeah. So, uh this So, this is uh Hot Mods uh Pulp Fiction uh Badmother Bumpers. We've talked about this on the show a couple of times already. Um but I didn't actually have them in hand. Um so, these replace the pop bumper covers on Pulp Fiction. Um and they're just a more sort of 3D solution that allows uh light to come through. um allows light to come through these sort of neon uh elements um to sort of light them up a lot more. Um light comes through these triangles as well. Um if you can see sort of how nice the finish is on those. He's used uh vapor smoothing uh vapor smoothed resin on those. I think it's PA12 um possibly painted I think. So, painted white but vapor smooth so that you get absolutely no sort of print lines. Um, and it gives sort of basically like a injection molded sort of type effect. Um, when when they're lit up sort of these sort of look quite neon. Um, and they're just they're just a really great product. He's done really well with them. Um, very very simple. Uh, no additional lighting effects effects with them or any electronics. Um, but they just basically supercharge uh what is an existing item on that game. Um, so I think, you know, if you did own Pulp Fiction and you just wanted to sort of take those uh pop bumpers to the next level, it's a sort of bit of a no-brainer that one. Yeah. Uh, I had that game for about six months and definitely I like the look of them. I think that it would be a really good fit. I think there's some kind of smooth lines on that. Should we just quickly show sort of what they look like lit up? Yeah. Do you have that here on their website or Yeah. Uh, so there they are. There. Is that sound coming through as well? No. Uhuh. But that's okay. Yeah, probably a bit loud, but hey. Um, yeah. So, that's that's the uh hot So, anybody who's interested. Um, once again, just to mention that we'll be posting all the links to all these mods uh at the end of the show in the comments uh or in the description, sorry. Um, so yeah, don't worry too much about sort of, you know, remembering which is which cuz we'll uh we'll post links to everything later on. So, we just just to continue on the uh on the ones that I've got here. So, these are all sort of mods that I've been hanging uh onto on my desk for ages uninstalled cuz I sort of wanted to show them on the show. Um, so Raiden Mods uh who's a lovely guy. We mentioned him many many times on the show. um does a lot of work on Foo Fighters um and has been working a lot on um Uncanny X-Men as well. Um mainly to do fixes on the geometry. So um he's uh released a whole bunch of mods that fix sort of various uh geometric problems uh on the game. Uh this is one to fix is the shooter lane fix. So that uh corrects the ramp issue. um that causes the ball not to go all the way around um the ramp on the on the initial plunge. Um which is one of the biggest uh bug bears for Uncut X-Men. Um so that's the fix for that. Uh this is the ball hop mod. uh um which fixes the flipper left flipper uh ball hop um essentially when you uh when the ball gets stalled in the um I think it's the Xavier uh Professor Xavier um lock or ball stall um when it drops it bounces off the hump at the top of the flipper and makes it for a really unsatisfying shot. So, this corrects um that problem. And uh and I can't what was this one? I can't remember. Let me just quickly pull it up. Um this is the Sentinel Sentinel ramp fix. So, behind the Sentinel, uh there's a couple of shots um that can be quite bricky as well, and this corrects uh one of those shots behind the Sentinel head as well. So, lots of uh you know, some might say unexciting mods, but incredibly useful for people who, you know, want to correct these various geometric problems in their mods. Now, as a mod maker, what's most interesting about this stuff is the material itself. Now, for anybody that's worked with sort of translucent or transparent resin before, they'll know that it can be quite brittle. Like, if you were to drop it on the ground like that, it would generally like crack or break, particularly for something this thin. But you can see that this stuff is really really flexible. Um, now this is called durable resin. Uh, and it's a it's a pretty much brand new product um that hasn't been out for very long. Um, but in terms of pinball modding, incredibly incredibly useful um because resin just doesn't hold up to to to ball hits um because of because it's brittle and it doesn't have that flexibility. So, this stuff essentially solves that problem. Um it's not available from loads of suppliers yet. Um I don't know uh how Raiden's um doing it, whether he's uh got a Formlabs uh printer that can do it or whether he's doing it through a print farm, but either way, uh it's an incredibly exciting product that we'll pro we're going to be seeing a lot more of, I think, uh in pinball. That's Raiden Mods. Cool. Um uh next we have Cairo Labs, uh Tiny's Tavern. Do you mind uh do you mind showing that on your main cam? Um because we're getting kind of a low quality and audio issue on that cam. Yeah. Uh yep. On my main cam. So pull it back to this one. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This one. Yeah, that'd be better. Yeah. So the only problem with this one is I don't have So is that better? Yeah, it's still better. Yeah, we can even I've got it on my I'll correct that for the next show. Um so this is Tiny Tavern. The Tiny Tavern mod um is by Cairo Labs, a guy called Kyle um Sorokal on Pinside. Um this is not his first mod, but it's his first uh mod that has sort of like just done really really well. Um I think he uh has done 150 of them. Um there's people on the waiting list for them. He's still got a main job uh and a young family. Um so he's pretty uh observant not to stretch himself too far. So he's kept his list quite short, but a lot of people um are still wanting this mod. Um so you know, Kyle is is uh you know, he's he's one of the US's hot modders at the moment. Um and you can see why because this is just an incredibly good effort by him. Um, it's got, you know, a really great sculpt, really great painting. Uh, all of these, uh, signs are using like water slide decals that are back lit, um, to light up sort of, uh, to show the various modes of the game. Um, the fire lights up. Um, he's done some really great sort of little tricks like hiding uh, screw holes um, behind magnet panels and things like that. you know, everything's just very beautifully done. Um, you know, great attention to detail. He's got his own electronics in the back that light up the various sections. Um, Kyle's going places, basically. We're really pleased and proud of him for having done this. He's he's, you know, going to produce a lot of really great mods, so keep an eye on him. Very cool. What's the price on that one? Uh, not cheap. Uh, I think it's running at about maybe uh 400 US or something along those lines. Yeah. Um, but when you do see it in hand, there's a lot of work that goes into them. I know that he, you know, he's a oneman band at the moment. So, he's painting them all himself in his spare time. Huge undertaking for him with Young Family to do that. Uh, and he seems to be keeping up with it at the moment. So, uh, you know, uh, I think he sort of views it as a as a I think he's hoping to retire within the next, uh, couple of years. Um, and I think he's viewing this sort of gig as as something that he can do during retirement just for a bit of extra pocket money. So, you know, wish him all the best with that. Cool. Very nice. So, we talked about uh Tom Da T Diddy a little while ago just in terms of the fact that he's also done a couple of Kong mods. He did the concave uh like the back alley one that we we just looked at. This is another one of Tom's mods. Um this is the let me get the name of it right. Uh this is the hillside crypt mod. Um and this goes on Metallica Remastered. Uh it goes uh like the concave mod. It's essentially sort of a similar thing in in a similar place. Um we're not we're not Oh yeah. Yeah. Sorry. Sorry. Yeah. I forgot I was showing on the other one. Um, so this Oh, wow. Where's that go? Yeah. So, this goes uh so there's there's there's a sign on Metallica Remastered on the right hand side um which shows uh which shows sort of all of these elements on the sign, but the sign's always been a bit rubbish. It's kind of um not the best design. and it uh kind of multiple sort of acrylic wafers um with lamps underneath and stuff. So, you know, a lot of people have been asking for it to be replaced with a mod for a while and this is Tom's effort. Um so, this sort of covers the one of the ramps. Um there's some really great uh sort of windows uh here. Uh let me get it. So, sort of stained glass windows that get lit from behind. Um, again, like all of the screw holes and stuff are covered. Um, and all of the all of the wiring um, you can see sort of gets covered there. Um, and yeah, I mean, I think Tom's been getting better and better over the last uh, couple of years, and every mod that he releases just seems to sort of uh increase the quality level. Um, you know, even even just things like, you know, I know it sounds so silly, but because this mod goes on the side of the playfield, what he's done is he's put felt down the side here just so that there's absolutely no chance of it scraping um, you know, against your side uh, side art or anything like that. And just little things like that are a really nice touch. Um and uh you know yeah just good to see um that keep people keep sort of you know pushing pushing the boundaries and and creating these cool things. Cool. Um you got any more in hand? Uh I've got one more one more to show. Uh so we talked about uh I mentioned uh uh Penino's pinball mods. um a guy called Lionel who is out of France. Uh he has been I think he he had a couple of Jaws mods out um all fairly sort of low scale stuff and um since Kong's come out he's uh I guess gotten more serious and sort of um taken the mods up a notch I think you would you would say. Um this is this is one of his this one's done really well. Um, I think we've mentioned it on the show. Um, now I will switch to my phone just for this one, mate. Um, just because I need to get a closeup of it. Now, can you So, this is the monkey head torch mod. Um, yeah, it is really low quality, isn't it? I'll try and fix that for the next show. Sorry about that. Um, but these are monkey heads that go on the slings above the slings on Kong and the flames uh light up. He's also offering a version that uses uh our lolly board to light those up so that they can be triggered by game events. Um, and they can be positioned sort of various angles so you can get them sort of straight pointed straight at you or off on an angle or anything like that. Um, you he's got little control boards and things here. Um there's two uh monkey head torches for well one for each sling. Um and yeah, they're really great and selling really well. So uh good on you, Lionel. Uh it's a great mod. Cool. And he's got the torches, too, right? He does. Yeah. So uh he's got um Let me just quickly switch to Let's see if I can pull those up. Um, oh yeah. So, he's got a couple of other mods here. Um, so these are the um the torches that go on the gong. And you can see here he's well in this particular version that he's showing there, um, he's using the lolly board to light those up. So, they're being triggered, um, so they change color when certain, uh, lighting events happen. Sorry. When certain events happen in the game, they change color and do their thing. And then you can see the head torches there. Do those run off the same board or does each have their own? Uh they that's a good question. I'm not sure how he's how he I would imagine they could be both run on the same board because there's four outputs on the lolly board. Um so I believe that um I can't remember whether he was using a lolly GI or not. You might have just had the Lolly GI, in which case it' be one board for each. Um, but if it was the Lolly V3, then it could have been one board for both. Cool. Yeah. All right, over to you. All right, I'm going to do some Kong stuff. Um, got Kong behind me. Definitely loving the game. It's coming along uh nicely. Uh, this first one is for the pro. Um, so the premium comes with uh the the whole Kong Gong thing, but this is from the Pinball Foundry. Uh, pull that up. And, uh, it's a nice replacement. Uh, so you'll see here in this shot, it um, replaces that piece of plastic there that John Youssi on the left. Um, it's got a lot of the same effects as the one in the premium with like the green uh, the green vines going around it. Uh see if we can get a little bit of video of it here for you guys. Um so yeah, nice nice uh nice effect. Um and looks like it's probably a pretty easy install. So I think that one's been uh doing pretty well. Um they've got that on their website. Uh we've got uh this uh this is a pretty cool one. The super easy install. So this is the uh train tunnel mod by Raiden Gorby Gorby Mods. Um, it sits behind Kong on the left and just gives a nice little effect to the ball coming out of the train. Yeah. Uh, track. Um, there's been a recent update on the game where Kong will like hold the ball. Well, he's always hold held the ball on the third one, but now there's a nice screen animation. So, I think it's a pretty cool uh that that mech is becoming I think more interesting uh to have the premium. And this is just gives it a nice uh little effect there. there. And that's an really easy one to uh to get in there. Um we've got uh so I've got this one. Uh these are the Kong Shackles by Stellar Pinball. Stellar. Yep. And you you showed off a Star Trek mod, I think, from Stellar. That's right. That's right. Yep. Yep. Exactly the same guys. Father and Son. Um, truth be told, you know, you can pick these up on uh Maker Space and print them yourself if you want. But what they've done really well with these is the paint job is fantastic. Um, they've got literally these little screws that that that screw in, and they literally painted the screws. Comes in really nice packaging. Uh, great price, and whenever Kong shakes his arms, those chains fly in the air. It's just like a really cool effect. Yeah. Um, so this is this is one of those mods that I think definitely hits the feels like it would have come with the game type thing uh going on with it. So, uh, really really really enjoying these. Great. Um, and um, and yeah, you've you guys have done a Kong Topper as well that was released over the last couple of weeks. Yeah. So, how's that been? How's that been selling? Good. Good. I I'll uh I guess I'll give you guys a quick look at it here if I can make it happen. Um it's hiding back there somewhere. Yeah, I can see it. Yeah, there we go. There we go. No, it's been good, man. It's uh it's been really fun. Um you guys can check it out on the website. We won't get into get into all the details. Um there we go. Um it's been really fun to connect with a lot of new customers. like we're hitting a completely new market with this topper versus some of the toppers we've hit in the past. Um it's of course it's at a great price point. So people are picking it up and really excited about what it does uh for the price. We've shipped about I think as of today we've shipped about 40 of them so far. So they're going to start showing up. Um hopefully you'll be able to see them. We've got one going into Lit Pinball in Minneapolis. Uh we've got probably one going to uh the arc an arcade in Chicago and of course we'll have it at Expo too. Um, but yeah, it's it's a blast. The one you'll see behind me has some of the video that you can put on. So, you can add your own video. Um, so if you're missing out on the the King Kong classic stuff in your game, then you're going to be able to see that uh on your topper, which is cool. Great, man. Very, very cool. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah. So, you can add your own content. There's an SD card or something you take out. Yeah. It's real simple. Like, you can literally pop it in and out. You don't even have to turn the topper on and off. And then you just drop the files onto the SD card and then once you put it in it it plays the file. So pretty simple. Awesome man. Yeah. Yep. Yeah. Very very cool. Yeah. So lots lots going on in the Kong world. Let me see if I've got any others. Oh, I did have one other. So uh this is from uh TKF uh TFK Joe Casey. And this is the Kong Slings. I have this one too. Uh these are gorgeous. Uh kudos to him and his team for putting these together. These are of course an alternative to what we just saw from Penomods. Uh they are not lit. Uh but they look great. Uh the sculpt is fantastic. The painting is fantastic. Uh definitely a really really good fit. Also very easy to install. So um I've really really liked having these in my game. Yeah. Yeah. Very nice. Cool. All right. Back to you, Dave. What do you got? Uh I'll quickly show sort of what I've been working on. So um uh so D and D we've mentioned has uh had a lot of mod love which is fantastic to see. A little bit unexpected really as well. I think that probably Dungeons and Dragons sort of lends itself to a lot of fun and silliness when it comes to monsters and and designing monsters. So, you know, we showed uh we showed Kyle's effort with Tiny's Tavern. There's been a bunch of mimic mods uh that have been released as well. Um and we've shown a lot of those on the show already. And I sort of I think I teased on one of our earlier shows that um that I was working on something as well. Um and so I'll just quickly show uh the mimic mod that I've been working on. So, this is it. Um, it is, uh, a moving mod. Um, so it opens and closes its mouth. Uh, and the tongue, I'll just turn down the sound. And the tongue comes out as well. So, what was really fun um, for me was, uh, designing um, the action of this uh, in Fusion so that, you know, all of the gears moved, the tongue sort of was able to come back into the mod itself. uh but still allow the mouth to close, not conflict with the teeth or anything like that. Um and uh yeah, it was just it was just a really sort of exciting project for me to, you know, use servos and to get that sort of action happening so that it was smooth and and and looking good. Um, another really interesting part about this as well is that we've extended the functionality of the app so that the servo control is um a lot more controllable for the user. So, we've now got a slider that can um that can record uh the movements through the app. So, if you wanted to um create a mouth movement that was completely your own in relation to a certain event happening in the game, uh like even you know, uh sound samples and you wanted to make the mimic mimic those those sounds, then you could do that through the app and record it and play it back um based on a game trigger. So, there's lots of really sort of cool um features that we've built into this mod. um that I'm really excited about. It It's fantastic, man. I'm uh I'm a big fan of this one. I think you nailed it on a lot of levels. I mean, lighting wise, uh the paint job is incredible. Are you Yeah. Are you It seems like you're kind of pushing some boundaries in that area, too. And the finish, uh looks great. Uh didn't realize it was customizable, too. So, that's that's amazing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I think um I mean, obviously, we've been working a lot with uh Melvin um from Dutch Pinball in relation to um getting him to use our tech uh for various projects that he's working on. He's always been incredibly supportive um of that endeavor and of mod making in general. Um and one of the other good things about that uh that relationship is that he um asks for things that he needs. Um and so from our perspective, you know, we're hearing it right from um the heartland, I suppose. Uh what would be good functionality to incorporate into the Lolly V3. So um he wanted more granular control over servo movements so that he could do sort of, you know, mouth movements that could look like they could speak for a project that he's working on. Um so based on that requirement we sort of built that into the app and that you know the cool thing about that is then once that's built and given to him for his project we can then open that up to you know all of our existing customers so they can then use it on all apps that that uh sorry on all mods um that are you know that support uh servos. So yeah very very cool very excited about um the direction that this mod has taken us in. Yeah, that's a good one. Have you started shipping those yet? No, man. Uh, no, not yet. Uh, Jurassic Park electric fence mod is first. Um, and we're pretty close to being able to ship that one. We started shipping uh Elton John sign mod today. Um, but it shouldn't take us too long to get through that. It's a thankfully a very quite an easy mod to put together unlike the theater which has been an incredibly challenging uh build for us. Um and the theater will be ongoing for a while just because of the the numbers of orders we've got for it. Um Elton will be finished soon. Once that's done, we'll be able to move on with Jurassic Park. Hopefully that won't take too long either cuz it's not that challenging a build. Um and then after that we moving on with the Mimik. So, I'm hoping maybe 3 months or so before we can start shipping those out. Cool. Well, I'll uh I'll bounce over to another D and D. This is also from Melvin and Co uh with the Art of Pinball. So, Melvin's partnered up with uh Leor with Art of Pinball, and this is the uh I let's call it the uh the predecessor to the Jurassic Park uh which was an amazing mod for Jurassic Park from Leor. Uh, this one is awesome. And I, if I recall, the price is definitely uh, very fair for for a Leor mod. I think this is around the 4 500 range. So, definitely seems to be a good price. It looks great. Um, have you seen this one, Dave? I have. Yeah. Yeah. And I chatted to Melvin about it as well. Um, so the interesting thing about this is that they're using a technique. Well, it's all vinyl. Um, and the paint is cuz the first thing I asked about um, this when I saw it was how resilient is it going to be to ball hits? Because um, you know, as we've talked about loads on the show before, one of the sort of the most challenging sort of frontiers in mod making is building a mod that can withstand ball hits. And very few people have sort of managed to achieve it. There's the um theater of magic unbreakable trunk that's done it. Uh Leor's built bash toy mods before that haven't managed to survive ball hits. Um so when this one came out, you know, was that was one of my first questions is is it going to be resilient? And the very cool thing about this one is is that it is using a brand new technique um that's sort of like a variation on injection molding but um without the massive uh investment of tooling that is required usually on um injection molding. Um it's called like rotary molding or something like that. I can't quite remember. but um the paint is incorporated into the nylon uh or the vinyl I should say before it uh gets molded. Um and so is just very very strong, very resilient to ball hits. Um but still looks absolutely stunning from a you know a paint point of view. Um you would never know that it was a different paint technique to what he usually uses because it still looks so stunning. Um yeah, and I think it's just very very good as usual. I mean, I don't think, you know, you would ever see a Leor product that didn't look incredible. Um, but it's really exciting that they're starting to use new techniques as well um into the build process. Yeah, I mean it I don't have a sideby-side comparison, but let's just say it's uh it's night and day. So, really really cool. Yeah. Work on that one. Yeah. All right. Okay. So, speaking of Leor, um another interesting sort of thing uh came up uh the other day uh with Leor was that um this popped up on uh Leor's Instagram. Yeah, we can see that. Um which was a Kong sculpt. Um now I knew that uh Paul Jazzbuche was also releasing a Kong mod. um to redo the sculpt uh the main King Kong sculpt in King Kong. Um which you know it happens with modding. There's always going to be it's like the mimic mod. You know, I think there's about four mimic mods out there now. It's always going to be a risk that somebody else is going to do the same thing as you. Um but interestingly, when Paul then did a bit of a teaser for his one, uh this got taken down on Leo's Instagram. So, I don't know whether that was just a coincidence or um whether it was too soon to show anything or whether it's still going to come out uh or whether he isn't going to go up against Paul's one. I'm not too sure. But um this might be the only picture John Youssi of it if it got pulled entirely. Uh so yeah. Uh but anyway, let's quickly jump to Paul's one. Um hang on, where am I clicking? Over here. Uh, so yeah, this is this is Paul's uh Atomic Kong. Um, so this is Atomic Kong. Uh, this is Paul's, uh, version of Kong. It was meant to, uh, replicate how Kong looked on the back glass. Mhm. So, he's I think he's gotten the expression really close um to how Kong looks in the game. I think sort of uh the accuracy on sort of the the look and feel is is quite good. Um I think he's he's got sort of the cuffs sort of automatically built in uh to this version as well. Really nice paint job. Uh and I think he's done a good job. Yeah. And have you uh you did you work on this one at all or No. No. I no I haven't I haven't worked on it. Um but I do think he's he's looking to uplight it. Um so we'll probably put a lolly board with it um to manage that uplighting. Um I was really keen on sort of having some flames around him which is very similar to how the LE backlass looks. Um you probably can't see it back there. Um but essentially King Kong on the LE back glass has flames all around him. So I was like we'll chuck some flames on him. Because the challenge with this one was that unlike Atomic Godzilla where he could light up his spines in his mouth, there's nothing really to light up on Kong outside of uh auxiliary lighting around him. So we're having to add all those things after the fact. Um so at the moment, uh we've sort of built a sort of like a horseshoe LED strip to give him some uplighting. Um, and there's also talk of potentially building in some roving spotlights as well that are controlled by servos, which I think would look amazing if it could be pulled off. Um, and I mean that would be a very cool mod just to put anywhere in Kong anyway, regardless of whether you were adding the sculpt or not. Um, you know, a roving sort of spotlight effect in Kong would just like take it to the next level, I reckon. Cool. Yeah, looking good. So, lighting TBD on that one because I think this one's pretty early, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It was just an It was just a uh I mean I think I sent him some PCBs for the LE LED PCBs the other day. Um so, I'm sure he's probably going to be uh sort of showing some more lighting effects over the next couple of weeks. Cool. Well, I got a couple other DND mods. This is the Where's my button? Dragon Cave by Reflex Mods. Do you know these guys? Uh yeah, I don't know them personally. Um but I did I have seen the cave and yeah, it's Well, look, there's there's the uh night and day comparison with your dragon uh from before. Yeah. So, there's the factory dragon, but we have the cave that goes around him, which I think there is a cave of some kind, but it's it's pretty pretty basic. Um, yep. Again, we've got kind of uh effect. Uh, let's see. Is that the Is that the original? And then this is his. I can't I can't tell. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, but it looks great. Um, and I recall that being kind of underwhelming. Just like kind of a big piece of plastic with some light uh shading on it. So, I think Yeah. Yeah. No, it's a pretty it's a pretty rubbish sort of cave really. Um, yeah. I mean, D and D is a bit of a funny one. I'm really enjoying it, but it there's there's loads. I mean, you were talking earlier about not liking mods that cover up sort of whole sections of the game so you can't see ball paths. Like Dn D just the entire game is covered. But, you know, like like you know, the stock version of the game, you can't see you can't see crap. Not because of mods. Yeah. No, not because of mods. like the cubes covering the right hand side, the dragons covering most of the lefthand side. Um, I really enjoy it as a game way more than I thought I would when I first played it at a show. I thought I wouldn't enjoy it at all, but I am really enjoying it actually. And there has been a couple toppers uh floating around. Uh, definitely I think this has been one of the more successful or at least more mentioned ones. This is by the pinball scientist. This is the pinball scientist. I don't remember his name, but he was at Expo a couple years back and has done some cool things like the EM scorekeeper, which is like a little module uh that goes on your EM game for keeping score. Uh but this is pretty cool. Um it's uh it's got a lot going on. Uh the lighting is really nice. Obviously, a lot of sculpts. Um done a great job of, you know, I'll analyze it on an IP level just because I'm a topper guy. It seems like he's done a great job of navigating how to how to deal with that. Um I'd love to see it in person. Um I think uh I think it's got, you know, a great effect and it seems like he's doing really good with it. Yeah. Yeah. Very cool. I've not seen that one. Yeah. Yeah. It's it's cool. Um All right. What do you got, Davey? I'll pass it back your way. Okay. Um, oh, so let's quickly go back to Okay, cool. Um, so, uh, hang on. I'm going to need to pull up hot mods. Two sex. Sorry, buddy. Take your time. Nobody wants to see Angela, right? Oh, no. That's not that one. That's the wrong one. I can go. Um, I'll go while you look for it. Uh, yep. I got another uh I got another back alley. Um, Alex sent this one my way. This is pretty cool. So, these are replacement guns for Cactus Canyon earlier. So, these are these are really nice. I mean, um, speaking of covering ball paths from the factory, you've already got that in this game. This is not a new covering of ball pass. This is a replacement covering. Uh, but gives it a really, really nice effect. I wish there was a a picture of the original one uh to see in here. Let's see. They might come in here. But, I mean, they look great. Yeah, really nice. Um, really really well priced uh for what they are. Um, so another great one. Let's quickly talk uh let's talk more guns then uh now that we're on the guns thing. Yeah. Yeah, sure. Oh yeah. Yeah, we definitely need to hit this one. Yeah. So, this is probably one of the most anticipated mods uh that people have been waiting for for ages and it it is a shooter replacement. Um, so yeah, shotgun handle, shooter replacement for Evil Dead. Um, to uh was it it's just originally a button, isn't it? It's originally a button on Evil Dead. And they've they've kind of said that they they prefer buttons because they're just they're easy to work with from a manufacturing perspective. Uh because obviously it takes it to the level it should be. Yeah. Now, this is very nicely done from a manufacturing point of view. It's got um steel frame. Uh I guess I guess so that's probably the steel frame that they're talking about. I think these bits here are probably not steel. They're probably 3D printed. This is real wood, real walnut. Um, and it's got a tension spring, um, trigger, um, and a micro switch inside that probably then communicates that to the to the, you know, I guess to replace the existing or the previous, uh, micro switch that was the shooter button. Um, so not cheap, uh, 450 bucks. Um, and it has received a little bit of criticism in the sense that it's not movie accurate. If you look at um the original shotgun here, it's a full stock. Obviously, you can't do a full stock uh for various reasons. Um, however, I was thinking today, not that I'm going to do it because I've got enough projects on, but if you had a shotgun stock, right, that folded down as though you would, you know, you know how shotguns, and I'm not a gun guy, so I don't really know, but shotguns fold down so that you can put the cartridges in, right? So the shotgun stock could fold down into the cabinet when not in use and when you go to shoot it, you lift it up. Oh wow. Fire the trigger and put it back down again. Right. So you could do it. Can you do it? Do it for me. Yeah, I could. I don't think I can compete with this one. This one is definitely I know. And seems to be doing well. It would have sold loads already. Um, I think, look, if somebody wanted to do it as a little fun project, uh, I mean, that would just be awesome and I think it I think it would work really well. Um, but this is clearly awesome already. So, um, you know, have you have you got an Evil Dead coming? I don't. Nick has one and he picked it up. Uh, for sure. I kind of was debating to myself if I had the game. Yeah. if I would be like an automatic in on this. And I think I would. I mean, it's it's expensive, but it's like just even looking at it on the profile of the game, I think it's a great fit. It does stick out pretty far, but you know, it's it's it's definitely really well done. I think I think it's a nice addition for sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Cool. Okay, I got another one quickly. Uh I keep clicking on the wrong window. Two sex. Okay, so this is one by J85M. uh another fellow UK mod maker. Um this is something John's been working on for a while. Um it's a replacement uh rocket for James Bond and it's using a servo to open and close um based on various uh triggers in the game. Um so opens up, rocket shoots out. So this is a lot more movie accurate um to how it sort of actually is in in in uh what is it? Moon Raker is it? I think I think so. Y um and it's using a lolly board under the hood uh which is really cool. So the servo control that I mentioned earlier um is being used here as well. I sort of mentioned to John about that closing action and how it needs to be a little bit smoother and he said that that's all in hand. Apparently this uh teaser is using sort of like an early uh sculpt that um that they've iterated over since then. that closing action I think should be uh smoother on the final version as well. But very very cool mod. Um I think if you're a James Bond fan um for me uh you know there's been a couple of rockets that have been released so far. I think Leor's done one. Um possibly Tom has done one as well. Tdy I know that he definitely did a but none none that do this for sure that even Leor I think Leor may have even done one too. I think so. Yeah. Yeah. Um, and Tom definitely did a tower around it. I'm not sure if he did the rocket as well. Possibly did. But, um, I think if you're a James Bond fan, um, you know, a moving rocket like and and you know, like the rocket has to move, doesn't it? I mean, it's one of the main features of the game and it doesn't do anything other than just sit there. So, um, very very cool addition to James Bond. I, you know, he should sell a bunch of these and I hope that he does. Yeah, for sure. All right. Um, how many more do you have, Davey? Uh, I have no idea. I've sort of I've jumped around a bit. Um, let me I've got I've got one more. And this one's just for you. It's just special. I don't have any more. So, this is this is just the one for me. So, Dave Davey's main complaint with the P3 system is the buttons sticking out. So you can kind of see in this image and that is pretty pretty gnarly. I don't know exactly why they do that, especially since apparently it's fixable. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, shout out to shout out to No Gouge. Uh they're in our back door uh here in the Missouri, Illinois area. And this is a nice uh nice little little upgrade. Very very I mean look, if you own a P3 and you don't have this upgrade, then what are you doing? because that just absolutely makes the whole thing a lot better. Um, and I'm so Look, I'm so sorry, Jerry, that you know, like the amount of R&D and effort and work and late nights and overtime and everything that you put into and this is the thing that I hop on about like what an basically. Um, that this is my main complaint. But honestly, I just, you know, I think, you know, it's silly, but one of the biggest complaints people have with P3 is that it doesn't feel like pinball. So, anything that you can do to make it feel more like traditional traditional in inverted commas pinball, the better. You know, remove those blockers for people. And for me, this was a blocker. Uh, it's a stupid one, but it was. Um, so awesome that um that this is out there. Yeah, I didn't didn't know this existed, but I I think uh because I just assumed there was like a technical reason that it couldn't be flush, you know. Well, I think I think it's always been said that it was the it was the position of the screen uh on the playfield because screens obviously have to have a certain depth and because that depth was in the way of where buttons would traditionally be pushing leaf switches um then it couldn't it wasn't possible for whatever reason. So maybe they've just built in uh you know just a similar type of thing but embedded into uh the depth of the pinball cabinet so that it doesn't actually protrude into the you know into the screen. That's that's probably how they do it. Yeah. But um awesome that they have done. I think Jerry, if you're listening, put them on all your games from now. All right. Well, everyone, thank you so much. I think we probably got to 20 in there someway somehow. Uh, but really cool. Um, I think we're kind of caught up on new stuff. Although, with all that said, there's a bunch of stuff that I haven't even been seeing right now, uh, that that are that we've missed. So, for anybody that's making mods out there, you know, we appreciate you. Uh, sorry we didn't get a chance to hitting you guys up. Um, but we'll be coming back with more soon. Uh, Davey, any final Star Wars predictions? You think we're going to see? Uh, anything in particular? Well, they're talking about a Death Star and a Millennium Falcon, aren't they? Um, I really hope there's not a Death Star, to be honest. Like, number one, it's just a bull at the end of the day, right? Like, yeah, there's only so much space to make that grand as in no space. Yeah. And they've done it before. If they put a Death Star in there, like that is a massive miss for me. Like, why do the same thing twice or thrice even? Did Data East also have one in their game? Seems like it's been Yeah. So, if they do that, you know, Yeah. I'm going to be the first one to say that they've up. It's It's going to be tough to to Wow. Uh but I mean, I'm excited because like I get to see it without having seen anything. You know, I'm going to walk into this room and like there it is. Mate, I am I am a I'm a massive Star Wars fan. like a new hope or as you know or Star Wars as I knew it as a kid, right? Is, you know, just blew my mind when I saw it as a child. So, I've always wanted to have a Star Wars pin that I absolutely love, but I don't love any of them really. You know, none of them none of them speak to me in that way. None of them make me really feel Star Warsy, you know. So, it'd be great if somebody nailed it, but um maybe it's unable curious to see what that main mech is. Like, what is the main thing? Does it deliver? Uh is it part of the storyline? Does it feel like it's like part of the Star Wars universe? And also just his stern pushing boundaries in a couple of areas like the playfield, but also the Ellie. Like I think that they really need to like make this Ellie like Yeah, I completely agree. because it's like I love Kong and like I thought to myself the other day like because I like Kong so much would I want to pay the price difference for the Ellie even though I have the premium and it's like it doesn't doesn't move me into that that desire area. No, they they need to address that problem I think. Um whether they will or not, I don't know. Yeah, but it'll be exciting. I'm looking forward to uh I'm looking forward to seeing it even though it's not going to be in Europe. Um no soon. I'll have to I'll have to see if I want to break my NDA and slip you some some pictures. Maybe you would never do that. You would never do that, would you? Are you on signal? Encrypted chat, please. Yeah. Yeah. I'll just Yeah, I'll accidentally add a uh journalist to the uh to the group. Um and it'll uh then you'll never be invited back to Stern ever again. Clearly not going to happen. Although the though, you know, it'll be out soon enough, so you'll see. Yeah. Yeah. Unfortunately, they won't ship it to you, but you'll see. No, I know. Well, but it'll be at Expo, I assume. It will. Oh, fantastic. Yeah. Cool, man. There we go. All right, guys. Episode 29 signing off. Uh, wonderful to be with everyone. Wonderful to be back. Uh, we'll probably see you again soon and thank you for being with us. Thanks, guys. See you later. Bye. [Music]
