Happy Saturday. Sunday, pin folk, or whatever day you're listening, this is NYC PinPod, in which a panel talks location pinball in New York City. My name is Benjamin Furiga. My initials are BCF, and I wish every room I walked into had as many games as any room of Scrappleland. My name is Eric Sweephund. My initials are HIP, and I'm a pinball tournament director in New York City. On this week's pod, we'll do those things we usually do in Ball 1, which is run down local competition results. In Ball 2, we'll do what we usually do, which is venue updates courtesy of Pinball Map and its users and Eric. And also, we'll do our bullet journals. We'll tell you what kind of pinball we played this week. And then in Ball 3, we're going to talk with Greg Pavarelli. Let's get started. On Saturday, April 11th, 12 players came to Rulo's for South Slope Strikes, April 2026. Regular tournament director Jess Warren was out of town, so I was the guest tournament director. We played head-to-head until we reached four strikes. Alberto Santana never reached four strikes. He's lasted the day with only one strike, winning over Nint Hu, Matthew Carlson, tied for fourth, Zen Zokniak, and Taylor Connolly. Taylor won a tie break for the money. Nice. Alberto got 3.44 Whoppers. I see something that says out of order on what looks like Star Trek The Next Generation here. It looks like a really bad flipper situation. What's going on there? Yeah, we had a few machine issues on Saturday. One of which was the right flipper bat on Star Trek Next Gen completely snapped in the middle of it. I've never seen a flipper snap across it like that. Yeah, crazy photo. On Sunday at Jackbar at 2pm, I presume Sharp because no bro presented Stern Army Pokemon Pinball Launch Party. 47 players got together and played 12 matches of max match play and Adam Robinson was perfect in qualifying. 12 wins, no losses, and they cut to an eight-player final bracket with IFPA scoring per four groups. They did semifinals, they did finals. In the finals, Adam Robinson had seemingly run out of gas. He got fourth, Gabriel Chasanov, third, Adam Kane, second, and Alex Kelly got first place. That looks like that was huge. I imagine that's going to be a big Whopper Hall for Alex. It was quite crowded. It was a decent day, and so you could hang around outside. Right, you're one of those 47, because that's a lot, yeah. 47 and Jack Bar was, yeah, quite crowded. On Monday, April 13th, at bars all across the city, Pinball NYC's left flipper division contested their ninth round. And the Deluxe Horses had their bye week. The Mutants came up to at the Wallace to see our New York City Flipper Sport Association.

And our association picked up an 11-5 home win. That's five in a row for y'all. How'd it go? It was a good match against the Mutants, our perennial rivals. We had managed to pull it off by the end of the third round. We were up 9-3, finished off 11-5. A good fight against a tough team. Nice.
    4:10
Worms hosted the Pin Pals at Milo's Yard and got a 12-4 home win. Worms pick up their second home win with their unique collection at their home bar. You got something about an Instagram here, is that right? Yeah. There's a new Instagram account for Worms. It's at worms.pinball on Instagram, and they have a Worms story this week showing the final moments of Worms winning on Berrios. Captain Alex was playing in that story. I'm telling you, Berrios is the best advantage in the league. Best home bar advantage machine in the league. Benjamin, your colliders went to Scrappleland to face the Pinbots, and you picked up an 11-5 road win. We did. It was our second win in a row. We were less than 10 million points on Theater of Magic doubles and about 10,000 on Gold Strike doubles from this being 15 to 1. Similarly, I'm sure there were a couple of these that were close, that we won that were close. The one point that I contributed was a Scared Stiff where I got to the wizard mode, or rather got through seven levels of the thing once you get Scared Stiff. I did not get the tenth level such that it actually starts the final wizard mode, but I was in that mode and had got to seven or eight when ball three drained. Nice. Yeah, felt like a good game that one. And, you know, my Theater of Magic was pretty good and my Gold Strike was pretty good. We just, our, like I said, it was 10 million points on Theater of Magic between two people. And, you know, 10,000 points between two people on Gold Strike. That's two lit drop targets. That's one lit drop target apiece. That's, it was, it was a good game. It was a really fun match to play. But I was, I personally was involved in losing most of the points that we lost. Parliament hosted Intermission Dolores at Owl Farm and the home team got a 13-3 win. Parliament stopped the bleeding on their two-match loss streak with a big win. The Aristocrats went to Gebhard Spear Culture to see the 2-for-1ers. The 2-for-1ers got a 12-4 home win. They are undefeated in their actual home matches this season. They lost to the lesser players there in week one, but it was a lesser players home match. Speaking of, the lesser players went to Rulo's to face Special Wenlit. The home team got a 13-3 win. Special Wenlit has two streaks this season, a six-game losing streak and an active three-game win streak. They played themselves into the in-lane playoff picture with this win. Balls of Steel and Lion Persons played at Barcade Fideye, the home team, 13-3. Lion Persons have now beat Mutants and Balls of Steel in back-to-back weeks, I believe. Well, I guess, you know what, it's time to look at the standings, right? I mean, there's only a couple weeks left of this thing, and in one of the weeks, only half the teams kind of play, or, you know, only a few, several teams have buys. So some teams have played nine, some teams have played eight. Out in front, Balls of Steel with a record of seven wins and two losses have 84 points. Our New York City Flipper Sport Association is currently in second with a record of six wins and two losses and 76 points. Now, just so we're clear on this, when we talk about the schedule later, Balls of Steel is going to have their bye, and that's exactly, I think, right there. Isn't that exactly 8 points difference such that if NYC FSA wins it would be very hard for them not to be in first place next week. In third place the 2 for 1ers are 6-3 with 83 points. They're going to wait until the last week for their bye. But they are 5-0 at home. 5-0 at home is a big deal man.
    8:22
Five different teams have a record of 5-3. Lion Persons have 76 points. The Mutants, 74. Parliament, 72. Your Colliders, 65. And the Pinbots, 62. Right. We just beat them last week to make that so. It is not lost on me that we are effectively an entire win's worth of points, an entire eight points, you know, to be at the bottom of the in-lane playoffs. We are very likely at the top of the in-lane playoffs, but we're so many points behind the people in front of us that it's about winning. It's not about tying or doing as well as them. It's about doing better than them. We have to do that if we want to get in that upper division. The Colliders and the Pinbots are currently at the top of the in-lane division. Joining them, the Aristocrats with a record of 5-4, the Deluxe Horses at 3-5, and Special When Lit and Intermission Dolores both at 3-6. The Aristocrats, Special Wenlit, and Intermission Dolores, none of them have had a bye yet. So these three and sixes here, when we start talking about the two and sixes under them, they have a chance to catch up. Those two and six teams are Worms and the Pinpals with 54 and 47 points respectively. The lesser players round out the division with a record of one and eight and 52 points. But they got that win in week one, man. They looked so good in week one. On Tuesday, also at bars all around the city. This particular Tuesday, it was April 14th and it was round eight of Pinball NYC's right flipper division. In the afternoon, Schlubbs went to visit No Quarters for Laundry at Salad State, and Schlubbs picked up an 8-8 tiebreak win on the road. That's the Schlubbs' seventh win in eight tries, and with a 21-point difference, it seems unlikely they could catch Danger Danger in points, and they don't face him at all, you know, at least not in the regular season. Ball Drainers were at Jack Bar where they hosted the Trolls and the Ball Drainers won 12-4. The Ball Drainers had a five game win streak to start the season and they've just ended a two game losing streak by beating the Trolls. There was no Troll story this week. Scrapple Squad went to Buttermilk where your Butterballers hosted them and beat them 10-6. Now the Butterballers doubling down on your Colliders win the night before, marking Buttermilk as the superior pinball venue. Oh right, because they were both against Scrappleland teams, yeah. How about that? Any highlights? Scrapple squad started off by sweeping the first round, and then we split the second round, and then Butterballers swept the third round. So we were 6-6 going into it at the very end. Butterballers managed to pull off both doubles in that fourth round. And AJ and I had some nice games on Metallica there in particular, I recall. Nice. Third ball. Visited Harlem Globe Flippers at At The Wallace. And At The Wallace was the site of a Harlem Globe Flippers 12-4 win. The Globe Flippers are in the class of the six-win teams. And this big win puts them at 83 points overall.
    12:05
Pinnister Six was home at Skylark. And Danger Danger came a-knockin'. And Danger Danger won 12-4. Danger Danger stopping Penister Six's win streak with just a mere 12-4 win. As opposed to some of the blowouts I've had recently, that brings their weekly average down to just 12.75. That's right, they were at like 12.8 last week. Hmm. Rest in Pinball went to Rulo's where the replays were their hosts and their betters by a 9-7 margin. The replays get their first win. They only had one blowout amongst all their losses and a win felt like it was almost inevitable or coming soon. Yeah, I think those guys have been really close. Like I said, I keep seeing a few of them around Rulo's on Monday night practicing. I feel like they had one in them at home.
    13:03
Neptune's Treasure went to Birdie's where the Pinbabes were their hosts and Neptune's Treasure won 13-3. That's the sixth win for Neptune's Treasure and Birdie's is interestingly their closest geographic rival bar. Oh, yeah. Everybody Loves the Sunshine hosted, you guessed it, at Sunshine Laundromat. They hosted Harry's Hand Grenades and Everybody Loves the Sunshine won 11-5. They keep themselves in the orbit conversation with that win. Alright, well everyone in this division has played 8 because there's an even number. When we look at the record for the top 6, there are 4 teams tied at 6 here. Danger Danger is obviously out in front of everyone at 7-1 with 102 points. Like I said, you can't catch him in points, I don't think. I don't think anyone here can. It's not actually impossible mathematically yet, but it would take a lot to do so at this point in time. If you want to be in front of Danger Danger in the standings, you need to win out and hope that they lose one. Schlubbs are also 7-1, but they have just 81 points. Danger Danger has 102, so they're far behind. Harlem Globe Flippers and Neptune's Treasure and Ball Drainers are all 6-2, spanning 83 down to 78 points. And right now, No Quarters for Laundrie is the 5-3 team that would be above the line with 77 points scored on the season. That's kind of a lot over the other 5-3 teams. But the others are Everybody Loves the Sunshine, Pinister Six, and Butterball, which was 71, 67, and 65, respectively, presuming that those three go to, or three of those five and three teams, maybe even one of those six and two teams, although I imagine it's going to be one of these, you know, three of these five and three teams, presuming that they go down to the in-lane playoffs. They would be joined by 3-5, Harry's Hand Grenade and Scrapple's squad, and Reston Pinball at 2-6 as of now. The Pinbabes are also 2-6, Reston Pinball has 50, Pinbabes have 45. Outside of the playoffs with the Pinbabes are Replays, Trolls, and Third Ball.
    15:25
Replays and Trolls each have one win the Third Ball unfortunately not one yet How Scrapple League go It was finals week for the second season of Scrapple League of 2026 at Scrapple Land in Greenpoint Brooklyn Eight players competed for the A finals in a group elimination bracket with Papa scoring
    15:47
C.J. Smith won the day, besting Sean Grant, Adam Kane, and Greg Pavarelli. They each won miniature acrylic pinball machines made by Ali Bissette. Cool. Eight more players competed in the B division. Before it all got started, there were a couple of tie breaks. Right, you were supposed to have one, right? In particular, yeah. I played a game of Theater of Magic with Pat Carowan to determine which of us would go to A and which of us would go to B. Pat went to A. I went to B and was therefore the top seed in driving the bus. I managed to survive into the second round of the finals, but the B Division winner was Mike Pantino. Dan Merrill got second, I got third, and Dustin Bailey got fourth.
    16:45
We got some amazing pillows made by Allie. She also made the fabric and the patterns on the fabric. They're really cool. Super cool. And there was the C Finals too, right? That's right. The C Finals was contested as five rounds of group match play with IFPA scoring, much like a regular league night. Neatsan Gabai took the prize here with 33 points. Lindsay Rhodes and August Kaplan both got 27. I believe Lindsay won the tiebreak there. Connor Fleming, Peter Larson, and Dave Pell are all tied in fourth place with 25 points. Peter Larson won the tiebreak to get the medal.
    17:28
Nitan also got a Stern Star Trek Translight and a free entry to the next season of Scrapple League. Oh, cool. Scrapple League will be off until the first Wednesday in May. Copy that. See you in two Wednesdays, folks. Well, like, yeah, three from Wednesday. There's two off. Oh, two off. Okay. Yeah. On Thursday, April 16th, at Jack Bar in Williamsburg, No Bro Presents Thursday Night Strikes was convened at 7.30 sharp. It says Strikes by Gabe, so I presume that the GC Gabriel Chazanov was the director, not just of record, but indeed in person. Chris Coffero won the night. He played 10 games and survived with two strikes. Alex Weisenberger came in second, Travis Rosenberg third, and Andy Hayden and Gabriel Chasanov tied for fourth. Coffero, somehow miraculously we already know on Friday, got 6.49 whoppers for his efforts. Also on Thursday, 23 players showed up at Buttermilk Bar for the fifth qualifying week of South Slope Pinball League directed by Kate Martin.
    18:53
We played five rounds of match play with IFPA scoring with the goal of garnering the most points towards our series total. Zen Zokniak picked up 31 points on the night. I got 27. AJ Gould, Rob Wong, and Kate Martin all picked up 25. I think that ties my best week of league format ever. I did that at Scrapplelands last season, I think. Right, right. That sounds familiar. Yeah, right. With five weeks in the books, Rob Wong is currently leading the overall standings. Yeah. And he has a hard road to improve his score. He needs more than 21 on top of what he's already done because he's already thrown away a 20. And he's at 110, so it probably doesn't need too much improvement. No, probably not. Stephen Christopher has 106 points over four weeks. Also currently in the top eight that would be going to an A division, Matt Carlson, Taylor Connolly, Paul McHugh, Monica Weidekamp, Sam Hall, and Kate Martin. Everybody there has got four or five meetings, so everyone who's already above the line has to improve on their worst score or their second worst score in some cases to improve their overall score. Not as true once we get into this next little bit here. Kate Martin's sitting at 88 points. In ninth place on the top of B right now, Billy Vazine has 84. I have 83. Three, Matt Bogge, Courtney Wetzel, Scott Strong, Rob Adler, Zen Zokniak, and Caitlin Reese are also in the eight players of B at the moment. Oh, you know what? I was wrong. All of these people have four meetings already. But you know what? Once we get below this line. Except for Zen Zokniak. Oh, right. Zen only has three there. It's all net for Zen. He told us at the beginning of when we were doing the NYC double P double A that he was he was only going to make four this time. And he was frustrated that he got 19 in week one. Some notable players currently below the B cut line, but with only three weeks and therefore threatening to jump up quite a bit. Matt Grady has 69 points across three weeks. Morgan Levinson has 65. AJ Gould has 60. Yeah, yeah, those are all, you know, their first 12 puts them where Caitlyn is. The good news is Caitlyn's first 12 puts her one ahead of where she is. So that might play okay for her too.
    21:38
I guess that was it this week. So next week, let's talk about what's going to happen this coming week. This coming week, Monday, April 20th, Pinball NYC's left flipper division is going to have matches just all over the city. Well, except Balls of Steel. They have a bye. Balls of Steel took their second loss last week. They have one more win and eight more points than our New York City Flipper Sport Association. So they'll be rooting for an NYC FSA loss this week. I imagine I will be too. We'll talk about that in a moment. Parliament will visit Gebhard's Beer Culture where the lesser players will be their hosts. Lesser players haven't won since week one at home. This is their last match and they're officially out of the playoff picture. The two for oneers, the other Gebhard's team, will go to Commonwealth where Intermission Dolores will host them. Intermission Dolores is on a four match losing streak and this is the two for oneers last match. The Mutants will visit the Pin Pals at Skylark. The Mutants coming off their worst loss of the season to NYC FSA this past week. The Pin Pals beat Lion Persons at home in week one and Lion Persons beat Mutants in week seven at Solid State. That's an interesting little triumvirate there. And speaking of them, Lion Persons will go to Rulo's where the Aristocrats will host them. The aristocrats beat Balls of Steel in Week 7 and haven't won since. Lion Persons have been marching up the standings since then. Your New York City Flipper Sport Association will come to visit us colliders at Buttermilk Bar. I am really looking forward to that one. Me too. That's neat, you know. It's my Monday team coming to my Tuesday bar. Yeah, well, you know what? But also... I have a feeling we're going to talk about something like that in the next, in the Tuesday schedule too. We'll see. The Deluxe Horses will host the Worms at Barcade, Brooklyn. Worms are a win behind Deluxe Horses. This one could determine who gets an in-lane playoff spot and who's at home in Week 12. On Tuesday, April 21st, NYC's right flipper division will contest Round 9, wherein ball drainers go to Scrapple Land to see Scrapple Squad. Scrapple Squad can still make 500, but they need to win out. They are 3-5. Everybody Loves the Sunshine will face Pinister Six at Skylark. Pinister Six lost last week. Both of these teams are 5-3. The winner will probably find themselves on the right side of the Orbit playoff line next week. The loser will probably find themselves on the wrong side of it next week. No Quarters for Laundry will host Rest in Pinball, parenthetically RIP, at Solid State in Deep Queens. No Quarters lost in a tiebreaker last week. They have the most points of the 5-3 teams. RIP is fighting to stay in the in-lane playoff picture. They're at the bottom. Neptune's Treasure goes to Jackbar to face Schlubbs. Both teams that are in the upper division and I think they will both be that way at the end of next week no matter who wins. But Neptune's Treasure, it'd be an exciting upset. It would change a lot about what's happening around the top of those standings if they could take down the schlubs.
    25:12
Trolls and the third ball will battle at Midway. Trolls haven't won since week one. Third ball haven't won since their founding, which was in week one. I know that the trolls are going to have a blast. I hope that they just all have a blast. And because they're at Midway that they, along with Tweety Bird and Sailor Moon, are, you know, cuter get the fuck out. Butterballers head up to At The Wallace to see Harlem Globe Flippers. That's a reverse of the Monday thing. You are coming from At The Wallace to visit Butterballers. Not Butterballers, but Buttermilk rather to visit Buttermilk, us colliders at Buttermilk. And then you as a representative of Buttermilk are going to at the Wallace to play, I think, a lot of the people who are on your Monday team. Yeah, my Monday match is at my Tuesday bar and my Tuesday match is at my Monday bar. It's backwards week. Yeah, well, and you're also going to have Chad is going to be your rival on Monday and your teammate on Tuesday. It's like a Civil War Brothers thing.
    26:21
Yeah, and a number of NYC FSA are also on Globe Flippers and they'll be my rivals on Tuesday. Right, right, exactly.
    26:30
Harry's Hand Grenades will host the replays at Bar Grade Harry. Harry's Hand Grenades ended a three-match win streak last week. They're a win and four points above the lower limit of the Orbit playoff picture. Replays would love to start a win streak after their first win last week. And the Pinbabes go to Buttermilk Bar to see Danger Danger. The Pinbabes have a couple of wins. They're just behind RIP for the last in-lane berth. They're really hoping to stop Danger Danger's streak of big wins. Wednesday will be an off week for Scrapple League. On Thursday night, well, it'll be Thursday night strikes at Jack Bar at 7.30 p.m. sharp. And also SSPL at Buttermilk at 8 o'clock.
    27:19
On Saturday, April 25th at Barcade Fideye, the Barcade Fideye Monthly will be convened under Greg Pavarelli's direction. We think that starts at 1 o'clock, but hopefully Greg will tell us in Ball 3. As of April 17th, 2026, there are 363 pinball machines in New York City at 74 public locations. Thanks to the creators and users of Pinball Map for this data, here are machine updates from the past week. I want to quickly interject to say if there were 73 locations such that Scrapple Land wasn't one, there would be fewer than 300. That was 363. There are 67 at Scrapple Land, and so it would be 296 and 73 venues if Scrapple Land weren't there. That's a huge percentage of the pinball machines on the scene, man. On Saturday, April 11th, user JBSPI was at Scrapple Land, and they said of the Indiana Jones the Pinball adventure, light behind the eye in Indy is always off, even when the ball goes through it. That's frustrating. We saw a lot of machine juggling in the last week. We'll start off with on Sunday, a Pokemon Premium was added to Scrapple Land. And a Pokemon Pro was added to Jackbar. User Flipperfiend commented on the one at Jackbar saying, not sure how long there will be a Pro and Premium here, but as of today there was. I can add that as of Monday, both were on site at Scrappleland and I might suggest that it would be impossible to avoid asking if both Jackbar and Scrappleland have to collect them all. Well, it's certainly useful having the both of them there at Jack Bar because that was the launch party on Sunday. Word. On Monday, user Flipper Fiend commented on the getaway at Jack Bar out of service. I played it some that night. I don't think it was, it didn't play the way I wanted it to, but it played. Oh, that's Jack Bar. That's Jack Bar. I was thinking Scrappleland's getaway. That's a different venue. That's Jack Bar. Forget that.
    29:38
That's not where I was. It was working on Sunday when I was there for the launch party. I set a personal best on that getaway. Oh.
    29:46
    177. Wow. Flipper Fiend also commented on the creature at Jack Bar, saying, Jack Bar games come in two flavors. A tilt bob so tight you'll go straight to tilt by merely thinking about nudging, or one so forgiving you can throw it across the room and maybe get a slap on the wrist. This machine is the former. Jack Bar John also commented on the creature at Jack Bar saying, quote, are you friggin kidding me? I barely touched it, end quote. Attributed to Flipper Fiend 2026. And then a big laughing and a winking emoji. Looks like user Jack Bar John is bringing some of his Yelp replies over to Pinball Map. That's what I was just going to say is maybe he needs the Pinball Map t-shirts. Maybe instead of the worst place ever or what the fuck ever all of his Yelp review shirts are. Yeah, exactly. Maybe he needs the Pin Map shirts. On Tuesday, the Pokemon Pro was removed from Jackbar. Also, a Pokemon Limited Edition was added to Scrapple Land. But user Flipper Fiend was at Scrapple Land on Tuesday and said of their getaway back in action and playing great I missed you old friend I agree with the first half of the first sentence and the second sentence but the playing great part it wasn everything I wanted it to be on Monday night at least Maybe Peter tuned it up between then and Tuesday, but it wasn't everything I wanted it to be on Monday night. On Wednesday, the Pokemon Pro and Pokemon Premium were taken off the lineup of Scrappoland by user Flipper Fiend. While he noted that added to the lineup were a Foo Fighters and a Rush, both limited editions. That's how Peter rolls. Said Flipper Fiend of Rush, don't be surprised if you get a warning just by pressing start or plunging a ball. Also on Wednesday, user JNS stopped by the break bar in Billiards in Astoria and said of their Ghostbusters, still here, still a mess, still, quote, playable. I'll tell you why it's playable, because the tilt bob is not connected at all, because you can put the machine wherever you want, and at least the last time I was there, it had, you know, playable code. Not the first garbage code that was released on it, but playable code. Not updated, I don't think. Not fully updated code. But something since it has become a reasonably coded game. And also, it warms my heart to know that you can get off the, you know, off the end train and just go downstairs to a pool place and play Ghostbusters. I think there's a batting cage there too. I went there to review it in the first iteration of NYC Pinpod. On Thursday, the Foo Fighters and Rush that had shown up at Scrappin' Land on Wednesday were noted to be removed from the lineup of single-cut beersmiths in Queens.
    33:02
Single-cut beersmiths picked up a Pulp Fiction and a Pokemon Pro in their places. Also on Thursday, King Kong was removed from the lineup at Tempkins and a Pokemon Pro joined in its place. If you were paying attention, you might have noticed that a Pokemon Pro left Jackbar before one came to Tempkins. Alright, well look, you played on the weekend, I know, because you directed on Saturday, right? Yeah, that's right. And then played on Sunday too. Directed and played in the South Slope Strikes? on Saturday at Rulo's. That was a fun little time. And then, yeah, right back at it on Sunday at the very crowded Jack Bar for the Pokemon launch party. It was a light turnout at SSPL, or South Slope Strikes, rather. It seemed like there was like 12 people there. I presume there were a bunch of Pintastic or something like that, right? Yeah, a lot of people out of town for Pintastic. Yeah. But then 47 people at Jackbar. Crazy. I think Mean Queen was 32 and I felt like it was super crowded. And I was not one of the 32. I was there to help, basically, to volunteer my time to help out. I went 6-6 in the max match play. It's okay.
    34:29
I lost three of my first four, and then I was like, well, what are my chances of even getting into the finals at this point? If I won out, I could get to nine. It turns out nine would have gotten through. Eight was the tie break that they had to break. So you finally went out on Monday. Yeah, I didn't go out until Monday, at least not for pinball. Well, I we had talked last week. We recorded on Saturday last week and we talked about how I had gone out on Friday night then. And I went out on Monday. I I convinced myself that I was going to go play some pinball sometime over the weekend and then just didn't was just was just like, you know what? I get to rest because that's what my body needs more than other things. And so that's what it's getting. And so I did that. But on Monday, I went to Scrappleland. I had a crazy amount of fun. I talked about in the competition how we lost both of the doubles that I played by fairly narrow margins. It was good to hang with Woody. I spent a bunch of time talking with Christian that night. I ran into, before we got started, I ran into Jackie Bailey, who's on Worms, who was there hanging out between work and her match and had a bike helmet, so I presume was biking up there. But I ran into her and, you know, had had a nice conversation with her, chatted with her. That was that was nice. I get the impression, I think that Christian told me that someone on their team used to work as a tour guide at Winchester Mystery House. Oh, wow. And I think we might have to see if that person would like to speak to us at some point. Yeah. Because that's just an interesting parallel to this exact moment in pinball history. I don't know how many copies of Winchester Mystery House the Pinball Machine are going to be made. I'm pretty sure it's not going to be nearly as many as Adam's family. 500. They're making 500 of them. It's a very specific moment in time, this pinball game, I think. And that's cool that someone on the team had that. I learned that. I mean, at least I heard a rumor. I trust Christian. I believe Christian would not steer me wrong. But maybe he's laughing while he's listening to this right now. So we got to play the Machine Bride of Pinbot, which was at Super Collider, our first home and our namesake, the Colliders. So that was really exciting. When I went on Friday, I was dropping game notes in the Colliders encrypted messaging chat. And one of the first things was, of course, to take a photo of the Machine Bride of Pinbot and say, hey, for all you old heads, for everybody on this chat who remembers when we had a bar that had this and Bally's Star Trek from the 70s, that was our collection when I started on this team. But like for those of you who remember that, you know, here is we at least get one of those at this venue because we're at this venue.
    37:53
And we chose it in doubles and, you know, started started ourselves off with a with a split because Jesse got a hold of it. Dr. Brown got a hold of it. Oh, and I was on the roof hanging out for a minute, collecting my thoughts. And Chad was coming and he was riding a bike and I saw him and I got excited and from the roof I yelled, hey Chad! And realized that like I just like tried to grab the attention of someone who is doing something that is, you know, potentially life-threatening if you're not paying attention to it adequately. That I'm like 45 to 90 degrees off to the side somewhere he shouldn't be looking. And also, you know, elevated on the Z axis yelling like, hey, Chad. And he did look up and wave at me and I immediately apologized to him. I came downstairs such that when he dropped his city bike off wherever the dock is nearby and I, you know, came by, I was just like, dude, that was dumb. I should not have done that. Like I saw you look up at me and I was like, oh, my God, he should not be looking a different way than he is riding his bike. I should not have shouted, no! Everything, of course, was fine. But what about your Monday? You were at home. Well, we loved hosting the Mutants at the Wallace, and a good number of the pinball crowd that night was taking advantage of the Monday-only hot dog menu. Ah, right. I had one myself. Are there like special topping combinations that they offer or is it just like cheap dogs? Yeah, they've got three fancy ones. One of them has stick fries and cheese sauce.
    39:43
And there's one with everything bagel and cream cheese. There's also like a plain one. I got the plain one because I just want mustard on mine. That's all I want. Unless it's a Chicago dog. Right. But got to go to Milo's for that. Sure, right. But you want tomatoes and India relish and whatnot on that. Tomatoes, pickles, diced onions, mustard, neon green relish. Yeah, that's what I would call the India relish. That's what I think they called it in the Julesosco when I lived in Chicago. So, celery salt. Yeah, of course. And a poppy seed bun. But you can go easy on the bun, I guess, if you can't find a poppy seed bun in New York. You don't see them here very often. Not hot dog buns. Not hot dog buns, no.
    40:40
I've looked. Yeah, no, that's not a usual thing here. That's a usual thing in Chicago. What about Tuesday? Monday was it for me this week. What about Tuesday? Oh, it was cool. Yeah, your Monday was at Scrapple Land. Oh, right, and then Scrapple Land came to you. On Tuesday, Scrapple Squad came to Buttermilk. So, yeah, that was really cool. We're going to do that again this week. See a lot of, yeah. In a certain way, you know, Buttermilk and Athawallus are going to flip Monday and Tuesday night. And then also, in particular, the Sunshine people that we were both hanging out with were all of the people I see on Wednesdays at Scrapple League. Of course. Yeah, all the Scrapple Land people. Scrap-A-Land people we saw. How about Wednesday at Scrap-A-Land? I mean, you were... Okay, yeah. So look, Wednesday was fun. Obviously the playoff or the play-in didn't go quite the way you wanted. No, that was disappointing. Did you take advantage of your city bike? Did you get you some spicy nudes? Did you do the Rocky montage on the way up of all the things you always do to get it just right? And I got onto a G-train at 4th Avenue, 9th Street.
    41:56
And then that G-train sat at the very top of the slope, directly over the Gowanus Canal, for about a half an hour. Gross.
    42:10
In every way, gross. Yeah. And then did not go swiftly following the resumption of service. It took me a while to get to Greenpoint.
    42:25
Lincoln Ressler was on my train. Okay. Do I know who Lincoln Ressler is? Oh, he is the city council member for Greenpoint. Gotcha. Or parts of Greenpoint and Williamsburg. Right, right. I'm not exactly where the lines are. Some district that includes at least parts of Greenpoint. He's a cool progressive council member who's very good on transportation issues from my point of view. Cool. And was stuck on the forever train with you. Well, he didn't get on until after. He got on downtown and headed up to Williamsburg. I see. I see. He suffered in a different way due to the delay, I presume. Did he preach when he got on? No, he didn't say anything. I don't know if anyone else recognized him. Well, that was a missed opportunity for a politician as far as I'm concerned then. So I didn't get to stop for dinner beforehand. And for the first time, I checked out Peep's Kitchen. How'd it go? Did you do the chicken burger like I was talking about last week? I did not. No, I'm not a fan of fried chicken. So I got some pork dumplings. How were they? They were good. Suffice it, gobbled them down real quick so then I could go play Theater of Magic with Pat. Right. I don't know that... That was just randomly chosen by Matchplay Randomizer. Right.
    43:54
I don't think I've played that this season. Wow. And I don't know when's the last time I played the one at Scrappleland. I know I've played it before, but... Right, right, right. It's obviously not playing like it was, or I'm just unfamiliar with that copy from not practicing it. With all due respect to everyone involved, and I did this in a losing effort, but on Monday night there was a certain point that I hit a shot in my ball three, and I asked the game in no uncertain terms, and probably very loudly, do you have any questions? So I think it's shooting just fine myself. I had one ball where I rocked my bonus up to 8x but didn't do much else. And by the end of the game, I died trying to start the multiball but never did. So I believe I asked, do you have any questions after I, while my ball save was still lit on ball three, locked ball one, locked ball two, and started the multiball. Nice. I think that might have been the moment at which I asked the game, like, do you have any questions? Like, everyone stole my fucking lock, but do you have any questions about what I was trying to do here? Come on, man. But as a consequence of losing the tiebreak, I got to drive a bus in the B Finals. Yeah, which is awesome. And so, yeah, but I find that extremely interesting competitively. Yeah, of course. I had the choice of arena banks. Right. We had banks, so we randomized eight three-game banks.
    45:39
Took the entire population of the 67 that were eligible to be played, that were deemed in good enough shape to be played. Like Dune, almost certainly was not played. The Machine Bride of Pinbot almost certainly was not played. NBA almost certainly was not played. Fast Break, that is. Just based on the positions of these games and the states that I experienced them to be in on Monday. But you took whatever was left after all of those decisions were made, threw them into a giant pile, randomized three, eight games of three each. So 24 games were going to be included here, right? Correct, yeah. And each bank had to have at least one modern, one 90s or earlier. Right. And the third could be anything. Had to have one from A, had to have one from B, third could be A or B. So at the start the A division got to choose their banks first so two of the eight banks were eliminated from me choosing Yeah how it be As the top seed in B But the one I had my eye on was available
    46:50
And so I chose Elvira's House of Horrors, Junkyard, Spider-Man. I like exactly one of those games. I like two of them. I know, and they're maybe not the ones I like, or maybe Spider-Man is what we have in common. You don't like Junkyard? I don't like Junkyard. Me either.
    47:15
I managed to get a second on it, though. I also got a second on that Elvira, and then thanks to Dan Merrill for 12-ing the round, he got first on all three games, which meant my two seconds and last held up. Four points I got through. And then... You're still driving a bus. I'm still driving a bus. I was driving the bus in the Final Four. You can't choose whatever bank the A folks chose. Did you still have the one you wanted available? Did you have your number two choice still available after A finals chose? I did still have. Nice. The bank I chose for the Final Four was The Walking Dead, Monster Bash, and King Kong. Oh, that's very monstery.
    48:03
Oh yeah, it is. You're right. It's very monstery. It's like a themed bank. Yeah. And the finals didn't go quite as well as you might have hoped.
    48:14
But having driven the bus, what was the experience? After the first two games, the scores were 6-6-1-1. And so it had been separated into two separate matches to be contested on King Kong where...
    48:33
To be contested simultaneously on King Kong. Two player matches that four players were playing together on King Kong. Yeah. Pantino and Dan Merrill were competing for first place while Dustin and I were competing for third place. Right. Pretty great. And the pillow is just the best thing. I always assume a good one comes with it having been a fun one. Yeah, I mean, it was definitely a lot of fun to be winning.
    49:01
Yeah. To have a night when you feel like, you know, you can do something on a pinball machine. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, when you feel like you can get a hold of a thing, yeah. A lot of the games have been going, like, two, balls one and two are just like, feel like house balls, Or mostly it's like I plunged well, got control, took a shot and missed, and drained because of it.
    49:28
And then I get a hold of it. You might have got your first sort of plate setting shot, but you didn't get three. Yeah.
    49:36
But then, you know, ball three, I'll finally get a hold of it. And that in particular happened on the Twilight Zone last night. Nice. Where I was player four, Courtney had gotten like 200 million and the rest of us were in the low tens.
    50:00
But I got a hold of that ball three and I had to just plug through it. I started a multi-ball, I drained out of the multi-ball, I restarted the multi-ball. Right, right, right. I got a single jackpot. Right. I, uh... You put some gumballs up and got your ceramic ball thing, right? It's now on ball three, so I'm going to play the gumballs. Yeah, I had to move it two spots, but I got the Powerball out. I put the Powerball back. I started Powerball Mania. I did not hit a Powerball Mania jackpot, but I got 15 million or whatever. It's going to add on to your bonus and... Into my bonus, yeah. And I just kept... Okay, keep going. Now I've got to shoot the ramps again to rewrite the gumball, to rewrite the lock. Gumball all day. Keep going. Gumball all day is how you win that game in competition as far as I'm concerned.
    50:51
I eventually got there. If you can get lost in the zone, it's great, you know, but gumball all day is how you win in competition as far as I'm concerned. So I wound up with three first places and two third places.
    51:04
Pretty good score. I avoided the thing where lately I'll have a terrible first round and then the Swiss seeding puts me in one of the bottom groups which I'll then win and I'll move up. And then in the third round I'm going to win again and in the fourth round I find myself in the top group and get my ass handed to me. It was very nice that this time around I found myself in the top group in round four and I played that Twilight Zone until I got myself first place. Yeah. So you were in the top group in round five for sure. I also threw together sort of an ad hoc Chicago themed outfit last night. Oh, nice. I wore my Heilman's Old Style T-shirt. Oh, that's what I drink at Wrigley. Yeah. And then, because I was wearing shorts for the first time this season, I went into my short socks pile. Uh-huh. And I was like, oh, I'm wearing the old style shirt. Why don't I grab my short socks that have the Chicago flag sewn around the cuff? Uh-huh. And then as I was grabbing my stuff and putting it in my regular bag, I was like, I don't want to carry all that tonight. I don't get a smaller bag. Oh, I'll grab my Chicago flag-themed Stern Pinball. Oh, cool, yeah. Fanny pack. Yeah, cool.
    52:50
So, yeah, Chicago flag and old style stuff. That's cool. Exciting piece of pinball planning news. Jess and I have talked with Barcade Fidei and secured a date for Pinpride NYC 2026. When's that? It'll be on Saturday, June 20th. When will I be able to register? June 1st. Okay. Circle that on your calendar, folks. June 1st. Noon? June 1st at noon will be registration. Noon. Our next guest should need no introduction if you've been a part of competitive pinball. If somehow you come to us to listen about pinball and hear all of this competitive talk and yet you haven't got involved, And I guess it's possible that you wouldn't know Greg Pavarelli. But Greg has, since I've joined the scene, been one of the few people who is almost always running some kind of monthly or weekly tournament or league. He ran the Sunshine Wednesday Night League, which has kind of, before the pandemic that is, which has kind of morphed into what the Scrapple League is now. It was at obviously a different place, but it was the place where the rabid New York City pinball competitors came together every week. And Greg also, you know, usually had like a monthly going and had some kind of series that he was trying to make. Greg is always trying to make a bigger, better pinball event right here in New York City while also maintaining his status, I believe, as a pro. He's in the top 250 of the IFPA. I'm sitting on the roof of Scrappleland in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. On a Saturday afternoon, we're playing in the Scrappleland Spring Fling Tournament directed by Harlan Aida Linda. I'm up here with Greg Pavarelli, one of my co-directors from Scrapple League held Wednesday evenings along with Greg, myself, Woody and Harlan. We just had finals, Greg. How'd it go for you? Thanks for having me, Eric. Scrapple League went well overall. I hope a lot of you that haven't checked it out come see us on Wednesday nights and say hello. It's a great time. We had over 60 players, 40 of which are submitted to IFPA. I was the top seed this season, which is very important because my play style, I definitely need to have game choices that I like. We randomized the banks, making sure that they have at least one modern, one mid, or like Williams era. And you never know what the banks are going to look like. This time around, I had probably three banks that I liked. I exhausted my strongest bank just to make sure I got to the top four, which I barely squeaked in with a very good game of Elvira, Like over $200 million on Elvira House of Horrors. The next round for Final Four was stacked. CJ, who's been crushing it since he started playing league and he won last season. Sean Grant, perennial all-star of the league, who's always in the top groups. Myself and Adam Kane, who is always in it to win it. So, of course, against those guys, there's not really a bank that I like that they don't like. So I was considering deferring. There was a couple banks that I really hated, so I didn't risk it. And I ended up picking a bank that had Batman, Congo, and Medieval knowing that Medieval is not my strongest game but knowing that Batman and Congo are two of my top ten. Unfortunately for me, rare issue on a game caused us to repair Batman which became Beatles and started off with a little bit of rough luck there but tweaked out a third place and then got a second place with over a billion on Congo. CJ happened to secure the win after two games. He's been playing lights out.
    56:40
And then, yeah, I ended up fourth this time around. But that's okay because I'm trying to get one of each trophy. I now have a first, second, third, and fourth. And if you guys haven't seen it, Ali's trophies are awesome. So very cool. Yeah. So very cool. And I really like how the league is attracting so many new players. Keep showing up. And we'll be back the first Wednesday in May. Yeah. I love that you guys covered it so much. Thanks for doing that. And like for those of you listening, like it's designed to be both for casual and competitive players. It's a lot of fun. It's very social. We have a good crew of people. D behind the bar, you know, Joey behind the bar. It's always a fun night. And what we're at, we're using over 40 games per week. There's over 70 machines in the bar. So come check it out. Yeah. You've got some other stuff that's ongoing or special events coming up. Want to tell us about some of those? Yeah, absolutely. So I guess a lot of people might have figured out that I've got the Whopper Bug back a little bit just for in terms of running events. I took a casual break because of work and work is still demanding, but I figured out my scheduling. So, you know, coming up, as everybody knows, we have a monthly FIDI that's going to be coming up at the end of this month. I originally told you I can't make it. I think I now can make it. But thanks for being available to cover. Then, well, this weekend, let's just plug this this weekend, Spring Fling. We're running until midnight tonight and then this is the hybrid format that we did for the finals will have happened before the podcast. Well, hopefully I've won by then. But that's a lot of Whopper boost. Then we, of course, have on May 9th is the registration opening for the Pinberg satellite here at Scrapple Land, which is going to be the first weekend in June, June 6th on Saturday. I'm really happy about that one. You know, Kate and I have both hosted this tournament in New York City in various places before. And last season when I reached out to Papa asking if I could get if we could get two in one year, they're like, sorry, it's already booked. But if you contact us next season, you're definitely in. Jeff Teels is handling it. And he messaged me and I don't even know that he knew about Scrappleland. So I showed him a video of the place on a Wednesday and he was like, yeah, that place is perfect. Sign up. Ali and Peter, generous as always, put down the six hundred and fifty dollar payment. So that means that which was important to me, everybody can play for 20 bucks. And I wanted it to be like, you know, it's raffle style. So the way we did the breakdown, first place gets like 10% odds of winning the raffle, whereas someone that doesn't make any finals at all has a 1% chance. And each position that you finish higher in B or A finals will give you a slight boost. There's incentive to winning, but there's also incentive just to coming and supporting. That's going to be like a big match play tournament. Two games per round, eight rounds, and then cut to a final. So it's going to be an all-day affair. Wow, yeah. Yeah, it's going to be a slugfest, but that one will be cool. And then beyond that, Allentown. So, you know, that's that's the first week in May.
    59:26
Allentown, Pennsylvania, they have a great trade show, really awesome food market across the street. It's a good place to buy and sell games. You could always find a deal on the floor. And Levy and I and Hagan and our crew, we put on a tournament. We do one try per game historically. This year we made it a little bit friendlier. You get 15 tries, 12 machines count. So you get three redos, so to say. The reason we do that is a lot of these tournaments you go to, you can't enjoy the show. And Allentown was always like a warm part of our hearts as just a fun to go to event. So the idea is like you're not chained to the tournament area. You can still have a good time and still play the tournament.
    60:04
And Allie's making her custom trophies for those too. Oh, very cool. Those trophies are awesome. She's a master of her class. Look for more of this stuff to come. We're going to do other seasonal stuff at Fideye, replacing the monthlies. We'll have other two-day tournaments. I'd like to do another Brooklyn Pinball Open here later in the season. Oh, yeah. We'll get some stuff going. I would love to also work with you to support Glenn and do something other than the Harvest at Gebards because I love that location as well. Very cool place. Yeah. Awesome. Thanks, Greg. New York State Standings. Come on out. Yeah. As I think you can hear, Greg is passionate about pinball. Greg is passionate about competitive pinball specifically. And if you're someone who wants to compete for Whoppers, you don't have a better friend in this city in that endeavor than Greg Pavarelli. That's all for this week's pod. I'd like to thank Greg for joining us. Reach out to us at nycpinpod at gmail.com or if you want to spit some vitriol at us vocally, you can go to speakpipe.com slash nycpinpod and you may hear your voice right here on the pod. Join us next week. It'll be ball one only. I've got some travel that I have to accomplish that will preclude a full episode, but we're going to do ball one.
