TL;DR

Speculation: Barrels of Fun may reveal Dungeon Crawler Carl game today before Multimorphic announcement.

Summary

Jason Knapp of Knapp Arcade publishes extensive speculation that Barrels of Fun may announce a Dungeon Crawler Carl (DCC) pinball machine today (July 24, 2026) to preempt Multimorphic reveal of two new games, based on circumstantial evidence including the author's social media follows, designer Karl DeAngelo fandom, and the non-exclusive nature of the DCC license. Knapp emphasizes this is highly speculative but notes the timing would make strategic sense if both manufacturers have licensed the same IP.

News RUMOR: What if Barrels of Fun Reveals Its Next Game Today, and it's THIS?! k knapparcade July 24, 2026 Good morning, everyone. Happy Friday! OK, I'm going to engage in a ton of speculation right now. I had to get this out before the day gets going. I need to preface this by saying that this article involves A LOT of rumors and speculation. It's very hypothetical, but it's absolutely wild to think about and we'll probably know whether any of it is true very soon. I still think that the scenario that I am about to describe is less likely than Barrels just having some random unknown theme for its impending game, but WHAT IF... On Tuesday, I wrote an article here about how Barrels of Fun is closing the window for its "Barrels Reserve" membership program, which likely means that they are going to reveal a new game very soon. At the time, I figured that they would do the reveal a week or so after closing the club window, perhaps at next week's Southern Fried Gaming Expo in Atlanta, GA where they are scheduled to have a special event for Barrels Reserve members. Here's where the speculation and rumors kick in. What if they aren't waiting a week for the reveal? What if they pause membership in the club and instantly tease or reveal their next game TODAY? If that's true, you can see why I needed to get this article out early. Why would they reveal the game today? Because they wanted to get it out there before Monday when Multimorphic is going to reveal its two new games. Why would that matter? Well, it sure would matter if they both had the same theme. Is that possible?! Could both Multimorphic AND Barrels of Fun have the license to build a pinball machine based on the LitRPG book series Dungeon Crawler Carl (DCC)? !Advertisement Ad 3 of 3 For weeks, there's been tons of confusion about which company had the license with clues pointing to both. I can tell you with 100% certainty that Multimorphic has the license and is revealing its DCC game on Monday at noon. But there's been a lot of evidence that Barrels was working on the game that I chose to ignore when I was certain that it was coming to the P3. First of all, Dungeon Crawler Carl's author Matt Dinniman literally follows Barrels of Fun and no other pinball companies on social media. Barrels of Fun's most popular designer, Karl DeAngelo coming off his tremendously popular game Winchester Mystery House is a huge fan of the DCC franchise, to the point that he actually dressed up as the book's protagonist for Halloween. Here's what's going to likely be a very short-lived conspiracy theory...the Dungeon Crawler Carl license is NOT exclusive, so what if BOTH Multimorphic and Barrels of Fun are revealing DCC pinball machines? How INSANE would that be? I would lose my mind if that happened. That would explain why Multimorphic is revealing two games on Monday. SPECULATION...they had DCC, found out that someone else was going to make it too, so they pivoted and added a second license to the module to make up for the lost volume that will be taken by the other game. The Barrels of Fun reveal would have to be TODAY. They couldn't let the other IP holder for the game reveal first. So we'll know for sure whether this unlikely scenario is true very soon. I have some more theories about what happened if this turns out to be true, but I needed to get this out there early in the day in the unlikely event that it is. Needless to say, I'm going to be keeping my eye on social media like a hawk to see if Barrels reveals or teases a game today. Again, I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE (Channeling my inner Donut from the books, "I AM YELLING, CARL!" lol). This is pure speculation. As someone who personally binge read all eight Dungeon Crawler Carl books after the author's initial reveal that a pinball machine about them is being made at a panel discussion about the game a couple of months ago, I am heavily invested in this theme. I absolutely love talking about the hobby and stuff like this. It's fun and an escape from the sometime harsh reality of the real world. Look for a second article from me later today or tomorrow as we talk about the aftermath of this and a whole bunch of other cool pinball and arcade stuff I've stored up. T theclawmachine 12 minutes ago I've never played a Multimorphic game, and without having done that it's very hard to justify a $13k+ spend to myself, let alone my wife. So that's out. A traditional pinball game, however, my entire family is on board with. So DCC with BoF is a day one purchase for me. And yes, the only reason I paid for the BoF reserve membership so that I could guarantee myself a DCC game if it came out with them. 0 Related Articles RUMOR: What if Barrels of Fun Reveals Its Next Game Today, and it's THIS?! 2 minutes ago Stern Pinball Launches Accessories for Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye 2 days ago Barrels of Fun's Next Game is Coming Very Soon; Suzo-Happ to Exit Coin-Op Parts Business?; Lego Donkey Kong Video 3 days ago Subscribe to Updates Get the latest pinball news, blog posts, and event announcements delivered to your inbox Subscribe !Advertisement Ad 3 of 3 New sponsor slot Your sponsored ad here Be the first to claim this placement.
