Look, honey, we gotta talk. I know you wanna help, but this is getting out of control. You can't treat a grown man like a baby. It ain't right. I feel like I've been trying to be someone else lately, eating food I don't eat, and I'm just not gonna do it anymore. And if I don't ever poop again, well, that's just gonna be who I am. Coming to you from beautiful upstate New York, this is the Slam Tilt Podcast, a show about all things pinball. I'm Ron Hallett, here with my co-host, Bruce Nightingale. Hello. And welcome to episode nine, which is... Feature. Feature. Feature. Oh, okay. Star Trek, the motion picture. Yes. Well, you are bald. I am bald. So you could be, except you're not a woman. No, and I don't have big hands either, so that's a good thing. Does she have big hands? Yeah. She has big hands. Okay. Persis Combata, for those at home. There's the trivia. Who else would know? Actually, probably any Trekkie would know that. Yes. So how's it going, Bruce? It's good. I am actually not at my house tonight. Really? I see you on the webcam, and the room you're in looks very familiar. It is, because it's Ron's bedroom. It's a spare bedroom. Oh, that didn't sound good at first. It's a spare bedroom. Didn't save it either. Just say guest room. Guest room. Yes. No, it's Ron's spare bedroom. Actually, I'm headed to school, but Ron's on the way there, and I was running late, so I'm like, let me just go record it at Ron's house. problem is with the microphones so close to each other i'm a big mouth oh my it would probably bleed through we would have a crappy recording so i am actually five feet from ron but not even seeing him but he is still seeing me on the webcam yeah it's more like 10 feet he's actually in i'm in my usual room and he's in the room right next door which is funny and the even funnier thing is right next to the room he's in is a room filled with like a mixing board a four-track recorder a couple of SM58 microphones. Which is the challenge for him next week, because I'll be back in Connecticut, and he's got to get it all working so we can actually talk next to each other next week. Yes, it'll probably be the worst sounding of the podcast. But who cares? I could actually hang out with my buddy. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. So what are we talking about, Bruce? You've got a long list there. I do. News of the week. News of the week. First, Stern ACDC is now up on Pinball Arcade and Ocular VR. What the hell is Ocular VR? It's a virtual reality headset you can put your phone into. So you actually, it's like a 3D. Pretty cool. And you can play your pinball machine looking like you're right in front of it and right, you know, playing it. Did you see the video for that yet, though? You mean the video that just shows the ACDC gameplay? Yes, but also it's funny how they, you know, classic king of the king of designers, Steve Ritchie, and then the best rulemaker ever, Lyman Sheets. Yeah, it's interesting that they started putting the software guys' names now in these promos. They didn't used to do that, really. No, but it was actually really cool to see Lyman and Steve Ritchie's name in there. Great game. I haven't played it yet, but we'll see how it is. It's $9.99 for the ocular one. How much is it usually? I have no idea. Around $4 to $5, so double. Got to pay for that licensing. Got to coat the pockets of some guy, I know. Yeah, well, I got to... I can always just... Go downstairs and play. Yeah, yeah. It's really live. It's super live. Yeah, super live, super incredible. What else we have? Upstate rankings for Upstate New York are out. I had them updated. That's amazing. Even though I played really well, I ended up dropping spots. Yes, you dropped four spots. Great. Yes. A lot of people did improve, though. Steven Bowden came out of nowhere, of course, and he is now in second place. There's my Steven Bowden. That was early today. I'm a bonus. Hi, Steve. Trent moved up to fourth. Eric actually went down to third. Tim Sexton did really well. He's up to fifth. And then we have a – there's actually four Canadians, eh, in the upstate rankings, eh? Yeah, eh. Hopefully you don't have the upstate finals anywhere near Buffalo. Otherwise they'll probably all show up and then I might not get in. That will be coming up soon for the next month or two. We'll start talking about where to vote for the upstate rankings, and then we'll go from there. Zach Sharp is 11th. Yeah, I think it's safe to say he probably will not be coming in for that. You never know. You never know. And Alberto finished up the top 16. Is the only New York City? Well, actually, let's see. No, Levy's in there, too. So Levy's 7th. And Levy was there last year. And Alberto's 16th. So we have two downstaters. Tim's from Poughkeepsie. So good mix. There's no such thing as downstaters. It's New York City and then upstate. Get it right. Get it right. Bob Matthews is 18th, and you never can say Bob can never miss a tournament. So you never know. He might show up. But it's really funny how you look at the upstate New York rankings, and there are two people in the top ten, and there's almost five or six in the top 50. So pretty – Top 10 and top 50 of the overall high-end rankings, yes. Yes, overall. So it's pretty impressive for upstate. The Buffalo Pinball Tournament did help out a lot for some people. Who's first in the upstate rankings? Some douchebag that's on this freaking podcast. He's bald too, I heard. Ah, yes, yes, yes. and my partner in crime is 15th. I'm 15th, yes. So even when I win, I lose. Yes. Just like I say to my wife every day. Very good. Other news. Let's see what else we have out there in the news. Eric was at my house this Saturday, or actually this Saturday. Eric Russell from Syracuse. Yes. Was that your house? He was at my house for my wife's birthday party on Sunday. And the first ball, now, if you play all my games, no extra balls, no nothing. I have actually Spider-Man set even harder, so it takes three hits to start Doc Ock instead of normal two for the first. So I make everything a little harder. Eric's first ball was at 650,000. And he was a couple shots away from superhero. Second ball, he was four shots away from a superhero. He was really close, and so I got my phone out. So you said 600,000. Do you mean like 600 million? Sorry, 600 million. I was about to say, I thought you were going to say, like, his first ball was 600,000. It was terrible. But then he came back and had this incredible. No, he crushed us. It was a dollar game. It was between me, Eric, and JT. And he got superhero on the third ball, and I actually recorded it, and he got over 1.1 billion, which is the highest score ever on my machine. He's only the second person to get superhero. I was the first, of course, and he really played well. And actually, Steven Bowden from Fun with Bonus posted the video on his website, so it actually looked really cool, and I just wanted to record it because when you're in the moment, you're like, oh, man, I wish I could see what I did. Well, luckily, I was behind him recording it, and JT's next to me going, oh, that's cool you're recording. Shut up. I don't want you to say anything and jinx them and screw them all up. You forgot the most important thing. What? He finished Super Hero. He did finish it. He just said he got to Super Hero. He actually finished Super Hero. Yes. Of course, by saying $1 billion, I guess it's assumed that. Yeah, you get $200 million just to finish it. I think it's $250 million. $250? Wow. That's what came up on the screen if you watched your own video. I watched it once. I don't watch after a recording. I watched it. Twice I've seen it, so once live and once on Memorex. No comment from Memorex? No comments? No, no comments. No, that's before my time. No, it's not. Yeah, sure it is. No, no, it's not. Are you going to do the Kolnar this week, too? You know, you got to go for perfect logic. Perfect logic? Huh? What are you doing, man? What is this episode based off of? Oh, the... Motion picture. Oh, a motion picture. Okay. I've probably only seen that a couple times because it sucked. Oh, no, it didn't. It did. It sucked. Great movie. It's a great movie? Yes. No, it's not. Okay, please, listener, somebody send comments in and tell Bruce he's wrong on this. Please. Star Trek, the motion picture is not a good movie. It sucks. Why would that start now? Because, oh, later on we'll be talking about that. What, how Star Trek is? Does motion picture suck? No, we can talk about it now. It sucked. No, it did not suck. It was actually very well written, well produced. It actually earned an Oscar. And boring as hell. Yeah, what, an Oscar for special effects? Yes. Of course. Yeah, because it's industrial light and magic. Of course it would be. Come on. Come on. It did not have the elements that is Star Trek in it. It was boring as hell. Well, the next one will be the best one. That is correct, yes. Okay, so we can agree on that. another thing we saw was what was it Ed Zeldman of State New York and New York City pinball proudness he's from Pennsylvania I know but I don't like saying where he lives you know that's not nice for anything but he's in the area well Pennsylvania is a big state it is a very big state but it is in the area but he had posted a kickass video, which fits into our theme from last show and from a couple shows of The Walking Dead. He actually changed the music to Slayer. And he changed this, and he inputted some sounds and voices of... Yes, he changed a ton of the call-outs to Beavis and Butthead quotes. And he posted a 13-minute video and it was freaking hilarious. Yes, yes, Beavis and Butthead. And I think he's working on some other ones too, but yeah, that's... Because he had one that was, he did a Tool version for the band Tool, music from Tool and The Walking Dead. Now he's got the Slayer, you know, Beavis and Butthead. Which is kick-ass. Yeah, it was pretty cool. It was. It was very cool, so I enjoyed that very much, and I think a couple other people did, too. So, that was very kick-ass. Ed, nice job. Very nice job. repairs we going to talk some repairs ok I'll start I'll start for once well FD kept bugging me about the T3 thing I went back into the T3 just to recap having issues with the new color DMD I put in there with it just kind of cutting out for no apparent reason for long periods and the cannon kind of firing on its own for no reason. There was no issue with the wiring. Wiring was not shaped at all. So I went back to just the whole ground thing and I just, I took the display out and grounded it. I just moved where I had the ground to where it says to put it in the instructions, even though where I had the ground should have still been good enough, but what the hell. So I did that and played a fairly long game and almost got to the final battle there and did not have any issues. Illogical. Yeah, the score, the display still did kind of, it didn't cut out entirely, but it kind of flickered, I guess you would say, again, when it was in the pop-over area, but it didn't cut out completely like it did before, and I had no issues with the cannon. And I actually got through at least four levels of the cannon and didn't have an issue. Okay. So you think the grounding was causing the problem? Yeah, I think it was maybe a ground issue, so we'll see how it goes. I think it's happy at this point. Very nice. Very nice. Any other repairs? Did we work on the pulling out your parts for roller games yet? Oh, no. That's a winter project. We're not starting that. Not starting that anytime soon. No, no. what I did do what I did do it has been down to 50 these past couple of nights uh yeah what is this supposed to simulate winter so if it gets cold it's time to do the roller games dun dun dun yes dun dun dun what I did do and in anticipation and this is way ahead of time for one of our other conversations on the broadcast where I said I would bring my stars and you said if I bring my stars you would bring something to next year's Buffalo Open See which. So I moved the, because my stars didn't have any coin mechs in it, so I moved one of the coin mechs I had that was in Stargazer over to stars. So it is ready to accept money. So it is ready. Money, money, money. Yes, yes. Money. So I'm kind of way ahead of the game there, but I wanted to get it ready. I like it. Good boy. Anything else repaired, fixed, touched? Not really. I mean, I played some games and they didn't break, so there wasn't anything to fix. So that's always a good thing. Very good thing. And how about Bruce? My repairs, Centaur, all the plastics are in. All the ball guides are completely done now. I'm just dealing with that one screw hole. I measured now completely. And where CPR put their dimple and where it had to be, you're going to love this, is a quarter inch off. Quarter inch off? Yeah. That's quite a large distance off. Yeah. So now I have a dilemma. You have a dilemma. Do I drill a hole close and split the difference? Do I put a big hole over where it should be and then cover up with a washer? This is what the things I have to deal with in my life. So what is it? Is it far enough away that you can just make a regular screw hole and not – or the other hole will just be visible and that won't be acceptable? Whereabouts is this hole? It is the top of the slingshot. Oh, yeah, that would be very visible. Yeah. Yeah. That's unfortunate. I think you should get another play field and try again. So if anyone wants to donate another play field, I'd be happy to do it. I feel like the guy that was transporting up to the Enterprise and melting. Because all this work I've done, and now I'm going, and I'm screaming and yelling and dying. Which they never even showed him. I mean, they never even showed him before he beamed up. He just was, yeah. What was he? What was he? He was the science officer. And what was his, what planet was he from? Oh, he was from, I don't remember. Like I said, I saw the movie maybe two or three times. Vulcan. He was a Vulcan, too? He was a Vulcan, too, because only Kirk would trust Vulcan science officers. Okay. All right. I don't remember that. Like I said, I'm not as into that movie as you. Yes. Luckily when we had our birthday party for Kathy this past weekend people bring up pinball machines for me to work on Yeah I saw that There was a certain pinball machine in your garage being worked on. I was actually hoping you had gotten it. No, I did not buy or get a Barracora, but I did get to work on a Barracora. He had a problem where each coil has an individual coil to reset the target. and on his barracora on the right hand side it has five targets and his fourth one from the top or the second one from the bottom dead coil and it was wired wrong so he had two things going against them and it took out the transistor on the board well rotten dog uses different transistors than normal ones they're strong they're very beefy but i did not have them so i told jt he's got the order the transistor and get a new coil, which he said he had a coil, which is good. So this was, okay, just to back up. So this Barracora had a Rotten Dog replacement board in it already. Yes, yes. So it was one of the combo board things, or the one board that replaces the driver board and the CPU board? Yes. Okay. So the coil was wired right and it blew the transistor on the replacement board. Yes. Lovely. And the coil was shorted. It was actually completely shorted. Nice, nice. So I checked the ohms. It was 0.4 ohms, and a normal one was 11 ohms. Yeah, that's quite shorted, yeah. So I wired it right. I cut off the one lead so it doesn't power, you know, doesn't kill it in that way. So when he gets the coil in, it's just one wire to solder on, and then the board, it takes 15 seconds, 20 seconds to put a new transistor in. Then he brought up a Gottlieb board that he wanted me to remove the battery from off the board and then actually re-flow some solder joints. So I did all that for him. Not a problem. And we got to play Barracora a lot. Yes, yes. Fun game. A really good game. This is JT's and also a fellow Upstater. I don't know if you mentioned him on any of the programs. No, we have not. No, we have not. But he hung out JT was hooked on my games. It's only the second time he was at my house and the party was Saturday. He was hooked on the timeline. No. Come on, he's Mr. Gottlieb. I could have swore he'd be hooked. He is Mr. Gottlieb, but he was hooked on my AFM. Another person who comes to my place and plays a shitload of AFM. Well, that's required. Everyone should play a shitload of AFM. I'm right with you, brother. But he did play it. He was supposed to leave like at Sunday morning. He didn't leave my house until 6.15 that night. Well, this was Sunday morning or Monday morning? Oh, sorry, Monday. So Sunday to Monday. Because the party was Sunday. The party was Sunday. I had to tell Bruce when his party was that he just had. Yes. Trust me, it was a blur. I drank a lot. And that things. So it was a good time by all. Ron, we were talking about, I actually sent Ron a idea for a T-shirt. Oh, yes, the T-shirts, yes. And Ron vetoed me. Yes, he sent me. He sent me a t-shirt design with our logo in the front, which looked nice. And then he had a saying in the back that said something like, check your out hole. It's a pinball thing. And it's like, no, no, I'm not wearing that. I thought it was fucking classic. Yeah, but see, Bruce will wear shirts that say, like, you know, knockers and things like that. But I don't – like I was telling Bruce, the Pin Mania, which is a show that runs, I think it's the first weekend or the last weekend in June? Last weekend. Every year, yeah. It's at a guy's house in Maine every year. And it's a cool tournament. And they always have like these shirts. You enter the tournament, you get a shirt. And every year it's a different shirt. And like the first year it was cool. They had like a lobster with like pinball, pinball, like flippers for his claw. And then he's holding a pinball. Like, oh, that's cute. And I wear that a lot. But the shirt's kind of got more and more risque. Well, I wouldn't even call it risque. The one is basically a dude standing there getting his pants pulled out so he sees ass. And in another year, I think the shirt was basically the guy looks like he's getting a hand job. Yeah. So I was. Checking your out hole is fun. It's a go from art. It's a quote from our show. Yes, it is. It's not very vulgar. But it's vulgar enough. And people would get it and hopefully want to see what we're talking about. See, I'd rather have the tagline for the show. A show about all things pinball. That's too generic. It's too generic. We'll make it like really fancy looking graphics in the text or something. I don't know. Okay, okay. I think we go two types of shirts. There you go. You can go the Bruce variety and then you can go the Ron variety. because everyone has been following and joining my opinion oh you with this again yes yes yes so what was last episode yeah we had a discussion about um you know games alike and games to hate and uh you said you hated nba and i brought up how really it's not that bad again you said you it's not so bad and you liked it yeah i played a pop a lot a lot yeah i enjoyed it And you asked people to do what? To tell Bruce he was wrong. And how many showed up and said I was wrong? How many showed up, period? No. How many showed up and said you were wrong? None. None. Yes. And how many said I was right? Well, one. Yes, but it's one to nothing. Again, winner. Yes, yes. So big plug to Jim. Jim again, yes. He agreed with me wholeheartedly. So big plug to Jim. Thank you, Jim, for two to nothing now. I am beating Ron. Okay, so that's a good segue into games to like and games to hate for this week, which I was thinking if Bruce wants to keep doing this every week, literally because the show is weekly, I'd have to think of like 52 games a year that I hate. I don't hate 52 games. Oh, I do. So maybe Bruce will just do ones he hates, and I'll be good cop, bad cop. You're the bad cop. I'm the good cop. I'll say how good a game is, and you'll say how bad a game is. You can do that. No, because I can do both. I'm good. You go both ways. Super. Yes, yes. Thanks for asking. Yes, you do. So you go first this time. What do you like? I know you're going to agree with me 110% on this game. Oh, really? Oh, it's not even an if and or but. First, we're going to go to the magical world where I was making fun of last past couple of shows of 6803 Bally's. Ah, number pad. Yes, 6803's were a, I don't say experiment, but it was trying to get more control for the operator. So they had to put a keypad into a connector behind the door, and you actually key in codes and get more data and everything like that. Well, it was terrible. It didn't work. But we kept it up for, I think, 12 games for 6803. The boards are okay. They have some issues, mostly with the stuff. Did they have those to the end, like before they got taken over by Williams? Yes. They stayed with 6803 till the bitter end. So that means Blackwater 100? 100. Yeah, Blackwater 100 was a 60, okay. Yes, it was. But Atlantis, when they got bought out, was half and half. It actually had a System 11 soundboard in it with a 6803 board set. Now, didn't 6803 have something where it could control a crap load of lights? Oh, yes. It actually had multiplexing with the lights, and, oh, yeah, you can control. Because that's kind of a hallmark of those games. If you think of games like Strange Science, they just have a ton of computer-controlled lights. Yes. So there are some good 6803 games. As Ron mentioned, Blackwater 100. On our intro, you hear it all the time, which is? Dungeons and Dragons. Yes. And then you also have the other one you just mentioned. Weird Science. Strange Science. Yeah. Weird Science was a movie. Yes, but they based it off, you know, like a little bit like it. You know, they were trying to get the wackiness from it. That's all. I didn't see Kelly LeBrock in it. No, you just saw a monkey. Did I get that right? Yeah, that was her. Yes, that was her, but maybe it's the same person. Was it Anthony Michael Hall, Kelly LeBrock, and the other guy who I can't remember. Yeah. Doofus, we just call him. And then Chet. Don't forget Chet. I might have seen the movie once, so I'm just going from memory. Oh my god, we can get you more on the 80s. Sorry, sorry. But going back to games I like, it's the first 6803. It is 8-Ball Champ. Yes. Excellent game. The only one I do not have out of the 8-Ball series. And it's the best. It is top. Actually, it's a little behind 8-Ball Deluxe. Nothing to do with 8-Ball Deluxe. Why is it behind 8-Ball Deluxe? What makes 8-Ball Deluxe superior? Just other than the artwork, I'll give you that. The artwork, the basic rules that make it simple but make it so enjoyable. It reminds you of an early to late 60s EM of the pool theme where it's perfect flow, Nice rules. Multipliers with the bally still. If you get it in the saucer behind the eight, you know. I'm more talking about eight ball deluxe than I want to be. But, you know, there's a lot of good things about eight ball deluxe. However, eight ball champ, unlike eight ball deluxe, where all the balls are just in one target bank, eight ball champ, the balls are scattered throughout the play field. And you have to hit drop targets to get them down. And then you have to hit a target behind the drop target to bring it back up so you can get the next ball that's in that shot. And the bonus multiplier is a nice left-orbit shot up to a saucer. Yes. And it has the same exact speech as the original. I mean, it's even the same lines. Yep. Stop talking and start chucking. Three balls. The back glass has a little bit to be desired. The back glass is terrible. Yes. And I don't understand why, because it's the same artist who did the Black Knight back glass, which is an excellent back glass. so I don't know if it just looks bad it seemed like he had like two weeks to get it done it sounds like he had like two days to get it done that's what it looked like and it's just like okay okay here you go I agree but great game excellent game so what do you hate staying with 6803 escape from the lost world escape from the lost world okay Terrible game Terrible And why is it terrible? Plastic ramps across the middle that you try to get your Your ball up You know through and everything like that Terrible theme Terrible game, terrible flow Shots are okay but It just kills me that game I remember seeing like three or four At like two Ohio shows before And they were all being sold For like $800 to $900 And not one of them sold Pretty much says it all. Yes. It does. Okay. My turn. I will start with the hate game first. Starting and staying with the theme we have established here. 6803. Yes. Now, is it Motor Dome or Motor Rome? Motor Dome. Motor Dome. Motor Dome. Played this at Pinberg. And it's just another one of those. It's got the plastic ramps, the shitty flippers that they had then that you can't seem to make it the shot. And I just didn't do anything for me. Didn't do anything for me at all. I still played like 20 games in a row just trying to hit the one. Because you shoot up this one ramp, and then I think there's another flipper or something, right? And you then shoot it up another ramp into like the back corner. And I just kept playing it until I finally hit the shot. but it was not satisfying at all. No, no, it wasn't. It was a terrible game, and you've got to pick modes in the beginning of the game, so you hit either one towards the end. Oh, yeah, you told me this. Yeah, you had to pick the right thing for the shots to be worth anything. Yes, and you always pick three. Oh, level. That's it. Pick level. Level one, level two, level three, which if you're just going up to the game, you're not even going to know to do any of that. Yes. You know, some of those older games, if you go Blackwater 100, where you're supposed to hit the flipper button right when the thing launches. There's nothing that tells you that. No, no, no. You just got to know or have someone tell you. Yes. Okay, games I like or game I like. This is a Data East game, one of the earlier ones, Time Machine. Excellent game. Played this at Papa many times. Actually, I thought it played too easy, and then they A-divisioned it. Where they put just insane rubbers in front of all the ramps and just made it play obscenely hard. So, but I love the ramp shots, the sound. I think it's one of those, Daddy, stereo games. Stereo game with? With chimes. You got it. It has real chimes in it that go off when you get to the 50s. You start in the, what is it, yeah, you're in the 80s, you get to the 70s, the 60s, and then the 50s. Back to the 70s. Oh, yeah, it's got great call-outs. It's got the jackpot. Jackpot. Da-na-na-na-na-na. Da-na-na-na-na-na-na. And actually, that was actually supposed to be in Tommy, I believe, the chimes. It's in the prototype. Oh, yeah, Star Warp. No, Time Warp. Time Warp. No, it's Star Warp. Time Warp. No, I still say Star Warp. Time Warp. Okay. People, you can send it in. It's Star Warp. What's Star Warp? Look at the back glass. Okay. You're probably right then. I'm not going to bother to look at it. If you're that confident, it's probably Time Warp, I guess. So, great game. So, on to the next topic. Oh, actually, we already did the superhero at Bruce's house. So, we already did that. Yes, we did. I just want to bring up something because I kind of have a somewhat invested interest in this. There was a post on Pinside. It was sort of a – Yeah. Where? Pinside, you know, the top pinball forum where many of our awesome listeners are. We love Pinside. Toll Forum? Yeah, I love Toll Forum. It's great. Oh, they're good too. the post basically was like is Ghostbusters the greatest game of all time and it was obviously meant in a trolling matter just the way it was posted I think the guy who posted it originally said I was trying to get a reaction but it was hilarious it like degenerated into that Ghostbusters sucks and how great a game Stars is it was hilarious reading this this thread you'll have to fill me in on it because I don't read it But the thing is, I was, it's like a lot of players I know, guys I know I have similar tastes in games with, all just universally do not like Ghostbusters. Thank you. And they basically all, it's too hard, the shots suck, everything drains you, there's no way to save anything. basically like it looks great it sounds great it plays like shit and that seems to be the consensus among a lot of the players I know so Ron I going to say it once and once only in my life Okay You nailed it Oh thank you Thank you. So I've only played it, I've played it a total of five times. Like when I won the sweepstakes, the Project Pinball sweepstakes, the only options they had at the time, you had Metallica, which I already had one on order. and I already budgeted for it and it's like, well, I already have this coming anyway so I want to pick something else. So I had Kiss. No interest in because I play lots of Kiss. It's like, no, don't want that. Had Walking Dead. Which would have been a great game. Which, yeah, I like the software, again. Time to change your pick. But there's just some shots in there. I'm more of a shot guy. I like games that shoot good, and I just – I don't know. It's prison. It's prison. You've got a prison, which is Sparky, and then you've got Wolverine – I mean, Well Walker sitting there. It's just – I don't know. You're not going to – guess what, then? You're not going to like Ghostbusters because there really is crappy shots of that game. Yeah, that's what I'm hearing. But those were basically my choices and Ghostbusters, which I hadn't even played yet when I picked it because I have no access to any of these games other than the shows where I live. So I picked it. Why don't you pick it? See if you can change it to Batman 66. Yeah, I was actually thinking of that last night when I listened to the – Oh, my God, please. I listened to the – well, I don't even know if that's possible. I don't know how it works with the sweepstakes if you can just change it because I already kind of said Ghostbusters. And I figured worst-case scenario, what I'm going to do probably when I get it, hopefully this month, I don't know. I will just keep it in the box and then when I go to Expo in October, they will definitely have to have it there somewhere and I don't care if there's a line. I will get in line multiple times and play as much Ghostbusters as I can to see what I think. Worst case scenario, I end up selling it and honestly I probably wouldn't buy another game. I'd probably just put the money into the pin hauler fund slash new vehicle fund. There you go. But didn't I say September at one point? Yes, you did. And from what I heard, they're supposed to start the American premiums, I believe, Monday of next week. Yes. How are you doing? Yes. Yes. Mr. Insider here. Mr. Sourceman. Little Insider. Okay. So I'm going to bring up something. Uh-oh. You're pregnant. Numbers, I'm pregnant, and Ron's not the father. Thank God. I'm actually going to be – my father wants to sell a couple games. So the numbers will be going down in the house. The numbers will be going down. What does he want to sell? He wants to sell his party zone. Well, who doesn't? It's actually a nice shape. He wants to sell it. Nice shape. It's a really nice shape, so I'm hoping – so we'll be interested in it. It's on pin side right now. I also have the Avatar up for sale. I also have a home use only Sopranos up for sale. Oh, Sopranos? Really? I know. Maybe that's where you put your money towards. Eh. Or the creme de la creme. You don't see many of them come up for sale. Ah, and it is? Scared stiff. Scared stiff. Yeah. so my father would definitely buy that one yeah i know you just donate your money to him and it's all good so i think definitely you need to uh anybody out there who's interested in the games they can go on pin side look up my name which is dragon's lair i don't post much on there so you'll see it right away yeah this is the pin side that you you dislike yeah you're posting the games on there yes because the problem here's the funny thing about that is i've had like five or six people ask me about the games who aren't interested in actually buying them, most of them. Well, wait a minute. So you're interested in the games, but you're not interested in buying. What does that even mean? They contact me, ask me for more pictures. I send them pictures. They go, oh, yeah, I don't know if I have enough money. But is the price clearly listed in the listing? Of course it is. Of course it is. Well, that really doesn't make any sense then. Thank you. Yeah, yeah. Why would you ask for pictures if you don't even have the money to buy the game? Thank you. Yeah, that doesn't really make any sense. Yes. So we're back to what else is now. So if you're interested, I am selling. I am going also to York. If you want to come by Rochester, you're more than willing to come out and play them and check them out. Excellent. Excellent. I have another theory I want to talk about also. A theory? A theory about what? Who shot Kennedy? Who shot Kennedy. Okay. It was the mafia, definitely. Oh, it was definitely the mafia? Okay. Yeah. Okay. That's my inside source also. Ah, your inside source. Okay. No, looking at going back to what we talked about before with Eric and playing a superhero and beating superhero on Spider-Man, when I was talking to him afterwards, he said it was like almost the ball was like in slow motion. So I almost call it like, I'm going to talk about it a little bit. have you had a couple of Matrix moments while playing pinball? Where, you know, at the end of Matrix, you know how he's trying to fight off the Mr. Anderson and he's just battling the guy really easily? The slow, okay. Really in slow-mo, he's just like, you know, boop, boop, boop. Have you ever played a good game on pinball where you actually feel like you're in the Matrix? almost like you actually the game's playing slow where you can almost save every ball and make a kick-ass game i want people to talk about so is that your way of just saying in the zone not in the zone but like the matrix zone it's the ball's going like it's going so slow you can control it i can't say as i've ever had that happen i've had a couple times i felt like it's going slow. I have been in the zone, but I can never recall thinking, man, the ball, it's just like it's going slow. Like I'm playing No Fear and looping and it's like it's almost so slow now. It's just so easy to hit. I've never had that happen. I've had a couple Matrix moments. I've had a couple. So it's actually really cool when you actually can get into that. So I want to see if other people have had that Matrix moment issue. The Matrix moment. Okay, so. All right. Yeah. Now, I do have in front of me a piece of paper. That says? The top 25 levels of suck. Okay. So basically just the 25, unless there's more than 25. No, no, no. Top 12 is good. Okay. So it's the 25 levels of suck. Yes. I'm not giving you good. I'm just going to say suck. So it's nice and easy basic. Okay. I'm going to give you a tease a little bit. I'm only going to give you the last five and some of the three. And I want you to think about it for next week, because I'm almost done. I've still got a couple tweaks to it. What is it? Is this like, there's 25 levels, so is the first level, it's actually a good game, and 25, it's like, burn it? Yes. Well, hate it. Hate it is 25. Okay. so it's okay 24 is kindling aka firewood oh okay okay 23rd is turd 23 is turd okay so you have turd kindling and burn it no hate it oh hate it okay just hate it yeah i don't even want to it's a pinball machine i see it i don't even want to look at it but you don't even want to look at So it's like it'll turn you to stone. It's like the Ark. It's almost like playing. Don't look at it, Marion. Keep your eyes shut. It's almost like looking at Escape from the Lost World. Okay. So look at it that way. 22, Polish Turd. Polish Turd. I thought that was proven that you can't polish a turd. You can polish a turd. It is very possible. Well, you can definitely polish a pinball turd because, you know. And then we have Jim's own. Jim gets his own little part of my 25 levels of suck. One of our listeners gets a level of suck? Highly polished turd. Highly polished turd. So this is a turd that you've gotten from Pinball Life. There's ooh, shiny, super polished turds. Yes, super polished turd. Okay. So that's the last five. So that will give you a little taste. There's still. Okay. There's still seven more levels of suck to come. Wait a minute, you said 25. Now there's seven. Well, no, because it's 12 plus the middle plus 12 good. But it's all still considered suck. Okay. Because it's easy to remember. Okay. All right. So once you get up to, like, one, it's good. Oh, yes. Okay. So when we pass the median point, so it's more like the 12 levels of suck. It's the 12 levels of suck. The 12 levels are good. Ah, okay. Here we go. The 12 levels suck. The 12 levels are good. It's like the 12 days of Christmas. Yes. Oh, God. We can do it to the song. It's like true love game TV. A highly polished turd. You got it. A polished turd. No, it's hate it. And some kindling. Yes. And I hate it. So you see it. It's coming along. Now, that's the bottom five. You've gotten the bottom five. Now I'm going to go for, what's 13? What's the middle ground? What are we going to call middle? Middle ground. Okay. Well, is the higher number shittier? Like is one like great? One is the best. One is the best. One is the best. Okay. So 13 is, okay, we're starting to get where like. It's the middle. It's truly the middle. Truly the middle. What are you calling that? I know what I'm calling it. Tolerable. So-so. Okay. Number 12, good game broken. Good game broken. So wait a minute. So good game broken is better than so-so. Okay. Because it could be broken like a bad flipper or a weak flipper, you still might play it. Okay. So. All right. That's only the tease. I'm just giving you a little tease. Oh, it's only the tease. Yes. I'm like a cheap girl on a date I'm going to show you my cleavage but I'm not going to give you the whole money yet please don't yes I won't but the rest of them will be coming out next week and if you have any additions you'd like to add or subtractions shout me out a line you see some people get their name up on it 21 is Jim's highly polished turd which is actually Twilight Zone so that tells you where Twilight Zone sits with me wow that's again listeners please please save me here I know he doesn't like Twilight Zone but it's not a highly polished turd it is a highly polished turd and I consider NBA 23 just a plain old turd wow so NBA is just one level below Twilight Zone in your world polished turds in between oh okay and that's IJ4 okay so ij wow we need to get on to another subject keeps you going keeps you thinking oh okay it's a quick little feature right here i like to call this one features we'd like to see now this basically would be a feature in a in a in a game that it could even be something that was in a game 20 years ago and hasn't been used in years that you would like to see in a game. For example, I'll give mine. I would like to see a player-controlled kickback, a la something like in Devil's Dare. Say an extra button on the side, which means it'll never happen because they'd have to put an extra button in the cabinet, and that's not going to happen. Extra wiring. Yeah, extra wiring. But basically you have a player-controlled kickback. So no more Star Trek complaining that the kickback is terrible, which it is in Star Trek. But now you control the kickback. So if it sucks, it's all on you. Now, how long would the kickback be on for? It's just you hit the button. It just fires kickback, just like a regular kickback. So your timing needs to be good. Yep. Wow. That's the way it is in Devil's Dare. If you do it too early, boom, it goes to drain. You do it too late, obviously it blows by the kickback and you miss it. Okay. I'd like to see that. It gives the player a little more control. They haven't really done anything like that in a while. Things like, was it Nippet with the gator, where you actually can hit a trigger thing and grab the ball. You're ruining your thing. You're already blowing away two already. Oh, I blew away two already? I'm just using it as an example of player-controlled things that are typically random or CPU or game-controlled. Okay, so Ron's going for player control in your item of... Yes. Okay. I like that, actually. I don't know about the timing thing. Maybe if you hit the button, it would actually stay lit maybe like for five seconds. Almost like a Magna Save. No, you've got to time it right. Nope. Well, I'm going Magna Save. I want Magna Save back. You want Magna Save. When was the last game to actually have a save-it magnet? Because now all Stern's games, magnets are to drain you. I was thinking Grand Lizard. No, sorry, nope, Black Knight 2000. World Cup Soccer. That isn't really a save-it. It is. I mean, it never gets used. No one ever remembers it's there. But if you time it right and the ball's coming down the ramp from when you didn't make the ramp, it can save the ball. It can save. Yes. No one ever remembers that. I think half the people don't even realize there's another button on the side. But, yes, there is a magnet, and it does work. I tested it on my game. It does, in fact, work. But if you go by the alignment sheet, you can make it use it to pass the ball to your other flipper. Yes, you could do that. But really, the real last – Well, didn't Monster Bash have some – yeah, but that was the – That was computer. Yeah, and that was called – what was the name of that? What was that? Actually, that's – what's it called? Phantom Flip. That's the Phantom Flip on that. Which, of course, is disabled on yours because that would be a bad thing for tournaments. Of course. Don't forget, actually, there's one more. You actually forgot about Theater of Magic. Theater of Magic. It has a magnet that saves the ball. I thought it had the things that popped up. That's not Theater of Magic. That's his next game. That's Tales of Arabian Nights. So where is it in Theater of Magic? There's a magnet save? There's two magnet safes, but you don't control it. Oh, okay. What it is, you earn it, and it actually sees it towards the end, like how it shoots up the posts for tails. It actually magnets it and pulls it in and then hopefully drops it right down your in lane. All right. So the features we're bringing up so far are just ones that have been used before. But actually, truly, you controlling it would be definitely World Cup soccer. But over an in lane I'm talking about would be truly Black Knight 2000. Black Knight 2000. Which, of course. Which is no longer here at the Stronghold. Oh, but there's the stars in its place, so it's all good. Well, it's mine, so I can't wait to play it tonight. Yes, yes. You have to play my stars. Bruce will get to play his stars. The one from the previous broadcast that you cost me $65 on. He stole from me. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you cost me there. You cost me more money. Stole, stole, stole. So what do we got coming up? We're getting some tournaments. We got the Gridiron Greats I believe is this Sunday Yes and there actually a lot going on right now This Saturday for me is Buffalo Pinball League night first one Team League for them is actually tomorrow, the 7th, which I'm not doing this year. But they have Team League, which is a really cool thing. You can actually still try to get on the team if you need to be a backup. That's really cool. It's up in Buffalo. It's every other Wednesday night. no points but it's fun fun playing with other people and playing against other teams uh it's more fun to compete it's more fun to compete this friday central new york pinball has their first meeting the salt city pinball league which i still call central new york pinball sorry mike it's easy to say central new york pinball but if you go to central new york pinball dot org it goes right to their facebook page of central new york pinball and you can check out all the stuff about the league. That's starting at Eric's house this Friday. Come one, come all. Come on, Ron. You know you want to. No. This Sunday is Red Iron Greats on Rock Fantasy, 2 to 8 p.m. I will be there. Come see one half of the Slam Tilt podcast crew with a bunch of good players there. We'll have a good old time. And then the next Saturday, 17th, is Rock Fantasy Summer Open. Great time had by all. And also on the 17th, down at Jersey Jack Pinball in Lakewood, New Jersey, he's having his open house slash pinball party slash pinball tournament. So there's two good things to do within a couple hours. And while you're at Jersey Jack's, if you want to take a 20-minute excursion, you can go to the Silver Ball Museum. Yes, just north. Very good place to go. September 22nd is Silver Hearts Pinball Tournament up in Syracuse. I'm not going to say the whole name because it just drives me batty. That's at the City Comics up in North Syracuse. Drives you batty. I see what you did there. Very good. Very good. Batman. Batman. no pre-orders oh yes there are yes yes we'll get a little more after we do this part uh september 30th and 31st is uh york pinball show uh great time had by all actually this weekend also i forgot that you mentioned this till just now the cleveland pinball show is their second annual show up in cleveland close enough to new york state guys it is uh thursday friday and Saturday, three days, good sales hopefully going on up there, and check that out also. As I said, York is September 30th, October 1st, two tournaments. First day is a classics tournament. Second day is a newer DMD style or new solid state tournament. www.pinballlifter.com will be there. We'll be there selling our gear and everything like that. Don't forget, if you mention Slam Tilt Podcast, you get an extra 5% off your already cheap discounted order from show specials that we're going to be having done. Slam Tot. That's what we call our kid fans. They're Slam Tots. We're like little hats that say Slam Tot Pinball. I like it. Slam Tilt. I like it. And one more thing. Guess who's a defending champion of the DMD tournament down in New York, Pennsylvania? Well, let's see. Bean, I wasn't there last year, and you're the only other one here. I would say me. No, I mean you. Yes. So I'll have to try to defend my honor. I will probably fail miserably, but I got to try. You're not just playing for your honor now. You're playing for the honor of the podcast. Yes, I know. See, we should start doing like when we get a high score, we put like some kind of slam tilt, the official slam tilt podcast initials. S-L-T-P-O-D? well let's see what would it be the slam tilt or just do slam tilt podcast so s there you go p or stone temple pilots could be one or the other i like it i like it bad not bad at all uh and then don't forget uh expo's coming up in six weeks yes i was reading i was reading their schedule that they always have their schedule that they post on their site And there are so many mistakes on it, so many typos. I'm going to bring this up now because this was just working me. It is so ridiculous that they can't get this. I mean, a simple proofread would take care of most of these issues. Proofreaders are very expensive this time of year. Proofreaders are very expensive. So you go to the site, and the first thing is, like, last year, for the first time ever, you could actually register through PayPal, like online, instead of like mailing a check if you wanted to pre-register. So this year, it wasn't there forever on the site. Now there's a part that says where it's coming and be patient. But that's been there for about a month and a half. So I wouldn't be surprised if it never ends up there. Probably not. Yeah, probably not. So if you go to the schedule of seminars, they have issues with time. They have like, vendor hall opens 11 a.m. First seminar, 11 p.m. Like, no, I don't think this is at 11 p.m. 12 hours, come on, 12 hours is a little. 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. are seminars. No, there isn't. They need to know the difference between p.m. and a.m. when it comes to 12 o'clock. They have for Saturday, the vendor hall closes at midnight. But instead of midnight, instead of 12 a.m., they have it listed as 12 p.m. And then wherever it's 12 p.m., they have it listed as 12 noon. It's just, come on, guys. I mean, it's just like proofread. I mean, it's just, to me, it's embarrassing because this is, you're putting this out there. This is your schedule. It's only 32 years of making. Yeah. And you have multiple just screw-ups with the time. and just, I just, and even their website, they have like the Expo Brawl, which is the tournament that happens Friday morning, where they link it one place, but if you Google it, it goes to somewhere totally different. It's just, it's a mess. It was like that last year, too. But I just thought, I just read that right before the podcast started, and I was just like, when I saw the one seminar, the seminar is at 11 p.m. What? 11 p.m.? Man, that's got to be one late seminar. Who the hell is going to go to that? That's the fireside chat again. Yeah, it's the fireside chat. Yeah. So that's all I got there. So did you listen to the other podcast of Coast to Coast Pinball? Oh, Coast to Coast Pinball. Yes, I did listen to Coast to Coast Pinball. I hear the interview with Jody Dankenberg and George Gomez. I thought it was not very well done. Oh, yeah. They're talking about Batman. And specifically, the thing that always comes up, when is Stern going to do the LCD? When's the next game that's going to have the LCD? When's the LCD coming? Well. We were both wrong. What? Both wrong? Yes. Oh, I said it was going to be Aerosmith was going to have the LCD. No, I said also, I said the size. I said it was going to be small, you know, the DMD size. Yeah, that's what he said. No, he said it was going to be 15. it's going to be a size 15 by 6, 15.6 LCD size. So it's not the full backbox like we see with Jersey Jack, but it's going to be a smaller swing-away design. I can't wait to see. Yeah, how big is that going to – so is that the size of the current, like the – how big is – yeah, I'm just trying to think. 15 by 6 is like a small laptop. Really? I'm trying to think where they would put that in the... I'm thinking lower middle. Yeah, but it could be a deal where that's the size of the LCD, but maybe it could be like the color DMD thing where the part that you see is just one part of it. Possibly. Because they're not going to engineer like a custom LCD. They're just going to use something that's out there. And if you notice, what they said also was the left-hand side of the play field is completely changed. What's on the left side of the old Batman? Oh, the Path of the Dead thing that you said? No, that's the right side. Oh, that's the right side. Oh, it's the teeter-totter thing. Yes. Did you say that was going to be removed? Oh, boy, I think I did. Yeah, that's what you said, yes. Hmm, boy. And he said it's going to have flow now, and it's going to be two crisscrossing ramps. Two ramps that cross, I think, is what he said. I think it's time to change your order. hey worst comes to worst i can always sell the ghostbusters and then i get a batman so i think that's the way to go yeah we'll see i i i need to play it first well gomez can't have two bad games in a row can't are three bad games in a row can three three okay what are the three bad games in a row well two before this transformers okay You agree that's a bad game? The Pro is tolerable. So you agree it's a bad game? I don't like the – honestly, the Pro, I have less issues with the play field than I have the rule set and just the chopping wood, where it just takes forever to do anything on that game. Or block, or you're cock-blocked also. With what? If you don't complete a certain mode, you can't get past. Yes, you have to keep – yes. It's a cock-block. It's more the software, honestly. I just like saying cock block. Yes, that's how we earn our rating that we have on there of the parental advisory. BLE, though, with the stupid upper right thing, that was just stupid. That just killed all flow and just made the ramp shot suck. Yes. And then really, honestly, when Batman first came out, it was terrible. Really? You think it was terrible. Rules is the only thing that saved that game. Okay. I didn't have as big a deal with it. Maybe it's because I always had good games on it in tournaments, so I liked it. It's not a bad game, don't get me wrong, but it's not what he could have done. What was the game before that? Before that one? Yeah. Was it Lord of the Rings? No, probably Sopranos. Oh, okay. Sopranos, great game. Which is Lord of the Rings. really a lot of the shots are the same it's a poor man's lord of the rings yeah one guy once come see me one guy once he had he had like the lord of the rings he did like the morphing thing i don't know if you see they do it like faces and stuff he did a morphing thing with with lord of the rings and sopranos and you can see it was literally almost the same play feel it's got funny but luckily you'll never see voyager on there you'll never see voyager on there. V-George. Oh, Jesus Christ. Bringing it back. Yeah, that must mean we're near the end of the show. No, we're still going. We're still going? We did the plugs. What are we doing now? We're freestyling. We're freestyling a Banzai Run. We're on the freestyle mini play field. It's awesome. Exactly. Exactly. Gomez cannot have three turds in a row. He can't. Well, supposedly they had the game and him and Lyman stood in front of it. And it's like, okay, if you had to do this over again, what would you change? And that's what we're going to do. I like that he also said if you hit the crane and if you get a glancing shot off of it, you'll probably still make the shot for the ramp or whatever you're trying to hit. Yeah, interesting. He also said the crane will work the same way and it's going to stop, just like it did before in the same spots, and those inserts were like the only inserts that were the same. Yes. All the other inserts are going to be different. Gone. Changed. Changed, yes. I'm very interested in that, and I saw tonight you, what did you purchase tonight? What did I purchase tonight? On your printer. What was on your printer? Oh, yes. Well, just to see if my karma is still good, Project Pinball having their sweepstakes for this one's for Batman 66 and I put one entry in just like before and we'll see what happens judging by the dates they put of the drawing I'm guessing if it does sell out which it probably will by Expo that's where the drawing will be that's cool that would be cool to see I'll be there and I I will be at the Expo party I'll be at the Stern Expo party that will not be at Expo but whatever yes Or they'll have the Batman there, so I'll get to play that. I will report back dutifully to the podcast of my impressions of the game. But I think you'd need to switch. Worse comes worse. I'll just sell it, and I can get it. But I'd rather have the money for the car fund, for the pin hauler. Which is going to be? Because we need a pin hauler. Oh, it's probably going to be a CRV. Okay. You and your Hondas. Yep. Hey, they have not failed me yet. No, they have not. They just run and run and run. This is my last Volkswagen, unfortunately, since Volkswagen announced this week. No more diesels. No more diesels. Yeah, they got caught. They got caught red-handed, Bruce. I don't mind that part. Screw the environment. Come on, I want my Jetta. If you see what other things pump out, hydrocarbons or anything like that, that is nothing. Oh, come on. I want my 50 miles a gallon. I think that's a better trade-off. Who does it, bro? What? That's a better trade-off, 50 miles at a gallon. I know Jim Swain will be agreeing with me from the sanctum, because he is a diesel boy also. Diesel boy. Okay, diesel boy. So, yeah, other than that, I think just got to do the normal plugs. All right, yeah, I think we're done, and I think Bruce wants to go downstairs and play his stars. My stars. Yes, he does. Because I still have to drive another two hours after this. Oh. So 1 o'clock in the morning, I think I'll be getting to my hotel room. Yay. Lovely. Lovely. And then you'll get to go to class. And then I get to go to class for all day. Yes. Yes. Well, if it makes you feel any better, I worked five hours Saturday, and I worked Monday through Friday. I worked five hours Saturday and four hours yesterday on Labor Day. So that was fun. You labored. Yes, I labored on Labor Day. Actually, I ran my company's 5K, which is right at where I work. I ran the 5K, the Labor Day 5K, and then came back into work with still my shorts on and worked for four hours there. Oh, my. Oh, my.
