high confidence · Orby description: 'it looks like it's from the 70s... This looks like it's from the 70s. Even back then they would have been like, get this crappy game... if you can't tell me what it is... there's no holes for the ball. What is it?'

All get around, he's on the rebound, hear the sound of our buddy, oh lordy, it's Orby, pinball now to rejoice, he's tugging pinball, craft beer and coffee, mixed with syrup and honey, he hopes to laugh with his family in a random tangent, stories of his boys, he's on the poor man's pod network, We're going to get more listeners for the Pinball Nerds Podcast. Coming to you from beautiful River Hibbert, Nova Scotia. Welcome back, Pinball Nerds, to episode 645 of your fifth favorite pinball podcast. And don't worry, I don't just have a meat hangover from all the Thanksgiving turkey I had here in Canada last night. don't adjust your television sets your radios your ipads your ipods your dismens okay your sony walkmans your eight track players don't adjust them because they're all incorrect up here in canada we celebrate uh our turkey day a little bit early and i went to town on that turkey but i know what you're thinking why are you at episode 645 and where in the world is episode 644. I'll tell you where it is. It's, I was about to say behind the paywall, but due to a certain negative Nancy coming at me again for like the fifth week in a row hard this Saturday, who said, not as hard as usual, to be fair. That's what she said. But no, he said that all of my episodes are now paywalled or my good ones. Well, that's just not true. Maybe my best episode of all time, which is the takedown of said person, yeah, that's behind the paywall. Maybe my second best episode of all time, yeah, that's behind the paywall. That would probably be my stern freakout. But my favorite episode of all time, and I honestly think, I mean, we've been together 23 years. It makes sense. We have a really good bond. It makes sense that we sound like we're just friends having a convo because that's all it was. but my wonderfully patient wife drop target danielle joined the show and we had a blast and i was gonna lock that sucker i was a little too drunk that night i totally forgot to lock it and i thought yeah but only the 27 people on my patreon will know that it's there and it's unlocked until i announce it on the show so don't worry patreons you all got it for free three days early i know even like uh silver ball chronicles i think is one of them but there's multiple different pinball podcasts where you get to hear the show a couple days in advance if you're a member of their Patreon. So all my members got to hear it and it's already at 62 impressions. So hey, a couple of you liked it so much you either came back to listen to it twice or more than likely you just didn't finish it. It is a 58 minuter. It is a little bit longer, but I had a blast. I had a wonderful time with my wife. I probably drank a little bit too much and honestly I was going to lock it the next day and said Debbie Downer went to town and was like, and all your good episodes are locked on your Patreon. Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. That's not true. In the last month, my Patreons have got three different episodes and they're all bangers. And this week, they're going to get a fourth. And then within a week, I'm going to drop the Behind the Paywall, Cliff Albert, Too Hot for Radio, Too Hot for TV. That's going to be there. And then by the end of this month, after Expo, not only will I be doing a WTF, what happened, basically within three weeks from now, you're going to have five episodes back there For just a buck a week, it is the best deal in all pinball. And what's an even better deal is it's not paywalled. That's correct. So you can go right now. Today's episode is too short. You want to hear me go a little more off the cuff. I didn't start the swearing. That was drop target Danielle. She surprised me. I was like, whoa, I haven't heard that heat from this girl in a while. She didn't just come at me, but she went after some other people as well. It was really fun. We had a great time. I don't want to set you up too big and say it's like, come on, it's not better than an episode of Triple Dream. But what is? Am I right? Or am I right? Or am I right? Right? It's not better than an old school episode of the Poor Man's Pinball Podcast with Drew and Ian. You know what? Sometimes we forgot. When we start to forget maybe a little about Drew and Ian. And then along comes Expo each year where the Poor Man's Pinball Podcast and the Strong 50, the Tribe 50 Strong, most of them get together. Especially the Americans that live within a closer distance than me. And they all get together. and everyone remembers, oh, that's who drew an E&R. That's who the Poor Men's Pinball Tribe is. And I kid you not, probably the best party location in all Expo, other than maybe Steve Ritchie's room. Okay, come on. Gary Stern Executive Bathroom. Upper Decker or not, that place is going to be a blast. No, I'm just kidding. Probably going on stage with Jack Danger, doing the drinks with Jack. That was so fun. I think, is this the second or third, maybe even fourth year? I don't know. That's such a fun time each year. it's good to have the reason the same reason why i really enjoyed having danielle on the show and i actually said listen honey we'll wait to be late for the show until a you're feeling well enough to drink and b i'm feeling well enough to drink because i want us to let loose a little and honestly uh drop targets a little more reserved than me you know typically i don't really need to be any more unreserved than i am if anything i need to be more reserved more measured more calculated more cunning all right today I got to talk about I'm not going to say it was a mess up but definitely it was misunderstood and this is part of the reason why I wanted to originally have Ryan McQuaid okay the designer of world-renowned cuphead yet no one's seen it yet everyone's seen it I've seen the videos I've seen the pictures it looks incredible I'm not going to say it has tons of flow but it has it I'm sorry Stern but it has cooler mechs than we've seen from Stern in quite some time, or at least one really cool one. Now, is it fully working? Is the code done? Are the animations done? Probably not, but I wish they were. And instead of Orbit Games, I mean American Pinball, instead of Orbit Games hyping us up and saying, guys, we're going to let you see the prototype of Cuphead, and if you're stoked and excited about Cuphead, go out there and buy these other four titles we have deeply discounted as soon as we've sold, whatever, 20 more pins between these five titles, 30 more pins, whatever, then we will produce, even if they said ultra limited to 100 models of Cuphead. If Turner Pinball can sell 100 models of Ninja Eclipse, I'm 100% sure that American Pinball could sell just 100 Cupheads. Come on, I still love the theme. I still love the art style. After I saw how cool the artwork looked and how neat the shots were and how incredible the mechs were, if you thought, if you were like, man avatar is my favorite pinball machine i need double scamp this is we call it's this is so scampi it's doubled to damp a scamp damp i've told you before i get easily distracted don't be coming in here bopping your boopin with your little tiny schmoopin give me this i'm gonna bop you with this okay she just bopped me with a little kind of like it's it's this is like what you would have for um what do you call that oh like wrapping paper at christmas are you getting ready for Christmas early drop target Danielle no okay anyways thank you for letting me bop you really quickly tell everybody how much fun we had on our show Friday and let them know that it's free over there my patreon they just have to follow my patreon they don't have to pay behind the paywall it's completely open the entire long all hour long episode tell them how much fun you had baby it was so much fun and I'm so glad that we did it and make sure that you check it out thank you you bye here you want this whoa listen was i bopping my bare belly my bare beer belly maybe i just came in from outside from chopping down trees then using the chainsaw because we're trying to get ready for winter here i have to at least do a two or three month season on a couple of logs a in case of emergencies if the power goes out here b in case we don't get uh our other we have a like a wood pellet furnace that has to be reinstalled because just put finished doing the floors down here by ourselves by the way we save thousands of dollars we put in hardwood-esque you know what i mean like they kind of look like they're hardwood but you know they're not but they look like maybe they were or could be anyways we put those in by ourselves last year and uh well it almost took a full year man that was a lot of work yeah if you haven't done that type of flooring yourself it's a lot of work but what i wanted to say here was american pinball please for the love of god they're releasing this tilto world game or something it kind of looks like a ski ball game, but I'm guessing it has like, it looks like it has one of those light, what do you call it, like a light field. It's got like a light sensor to tell which ball, where the ball rolled up. It looks horrible. You don't explain how the game plays. Go over there and listen to my boys, Josh and Scott on The Loser Kid. They did a great job explaining how difficult it is. They do a 15 minute part on how bad it is. This is all the time I can commit. I'm sorry. Both Josh and Scott are far more patient than I am. I looked at it for 30 seconds and said, if you can't tell me what it is, like it's not basketball, it's not skeeball, it's not a shooting game, there's no holes for the ball. What is it? What are we looking at and why are you trying to sell us something? They were being generous and said it looked like it was from like the 80s or 90s. Nah, nah, nah, nah. This looks like it's from the 70s. Even back then they would have been like, get this crappy game. I almost swore, guys. See, I get so used to swearing behind the paywall now. I got to be careful. But anyways, American pinball, what are you doing? Give your head a shake. And now that now, hey, some of the most measured, cool, calm, collected dudes and all pinball are those loser kids. Their name should be that these guys are not the L kids. I call them the W kids. These guys are winners. That's right. These guys are not mid six, seven. They are not. Do you know what I'm saying? Okay so anyways what they were saying is how confusing this is and why are they going down this route And basically I am going to interject my own opinion here from listening to them their conjecture okay what i feel is is american pinball has absolutely given up on pinball and i think the executives there don't really care that much about pinball i think that upper management there doesn't really care that much about pinball they just want to make money and they think for some reason that this catastrophe of whatever the hell this tilt the world game is is going to make any time, energy, or money. It doesn't give you tickets, which it's either, like they were saying, coin redemption or usually raw thrills. Those are the only two things that work. I like that game where you pull the stick and you got to get to the chicken and it goes, and the ball goes really slow. Anyways, sorry, that's my ADHD self coming through here a little. Alright, guys. The other reason I left that for you, the other day was World Mental Health Day, and something I've been toying with sharing with the audience for about six months, something that until just today, you know, until just Friday, the only people who knew were my, I almost said my mom, she's been dead for almost 15 years, so that would be very challenging, but my dad, my sisters, my two best friends, and one pinball content creator, and even said pinball content creator took over an hour to get back to me after I told them this, and even though I kind of came out of the closet on telling everybody something I've wanted to mention for, you know, discuss for a long time. I still have not got one message from one other content creator or one other Patreon or one other pinball nerd. It's awkward. It's strange. It's weird. It's different. I get it. But go listen to the episode because I save all the serious stuff for the end. By the time that time, I'm probably drunk enough to at least be open and honest to talk about it. It was very challenging for me. This is something I wouldn't share with a stranger. And you know me, I tell everybody everything. One of the hardest episodes I had to do, and that's why I had to get so blackout freaking drunk for it. But at the same time, I still, I fast forwarded through it about every 15 minutes. I listened to about 30 seconds. I was like, yep, six out of 10 drunk, seven out of 10 drunk, eight out of 10. No, don't record. As soon as you get to eight out of 10, Orby's like red lights go off. Like you just scored a goal by the Edmonton Oilers. Let's go dry sidle. Let's go. he just got his 400th goal is that crazy uh only the third or fourth or 400th point yeah that's the other thing my boy ryan berry will finally get to watch an edmonton oilers game well cracking a beer not at 9 a.m in the morning like having a night beer while watching sports and that's going to be incredible for him so very excited for him there as well what i was saying is that i got some information back from Ryan McQuaid as an update and in this particular update, he let me know that I had a couple things wrong on the last show. This is why I wanted to do the verbal interview with Ryan McQuaid, because have we done a verbal interview, you know, the intonation of how you're speaking comes through so much better, the understanding. And if you're ever having a beef with someone, like through Facebook Messenger, it's probably a very good idea to actually call them in person and try to talk to them, because then you have a much better clear understanding of what you're doing. But anyways, this is word for word what Ryan McQuaid said, okay. Hey, dude, finally had a chance to listen to it. Sorry for the delay. I'd like to clarify just a couple things. This was back on October 1st. I was thinking there might be a thank you in there, Ryan, but that's okay. This is a very thankless job. Listen, he's just trying to get his foot in the door somewhere else. He doesn't care about the niceties. And you know what? I'm sick and tired of small talk too, so let's just get into it. Ryan says, number one, My comments about, and then he put in quotes here, decisions being made for them was in regards to the game's license, i.e. Cuphead. So I add the i.e. Cuphead part, end quote. And then new quote, Ryan says, not the name American Pinball. The name they just didn't renew because they aren't paying, sorry, he said because they aren't paying attention. Okay, so what you're saying again here is it sounds like upper management is not doing a great job. It sounds like they're not really apt to be running that type of company. Maybe they're great at building boards and everything else that they do over there, but maybe just, maybe barcades or whatever, those little, those things that sit there and they have all the little different games on them and stuff. Maybe they're great at building those, but maybe just, maybe pinball is not their thing. And honestly, for years and years and years, I thought the big issue with American Pinball, because I was a huge fan of Houdini, I'm probably the only pinball content creator who didn't hate on Oktoberfest until I actually got to see it live streamed. And I was like, oh, my God, this game plays for nine hours. And during that whole nine hours, I didn't see that left ramp hit once. What's going on? But I theoretically I liked a lot of what was happening on Oktoberfest. Not so much the art. Definitely. Remember that weird thing, that sexualized thing? Was it with a dog or something? I don't even remember. There was some weird sexual thing happening with the art that got fixed, thankfully. but I like the thing where your flippers got drunk and you flipped slower I like the thing where you had to switch flippers there was there was quite a few interesting unique coded modes in Oktoberfest that they kind of really had something there and wouldn't that really be the story of American Pinball kind of really had something like I feel like that's what we're going to hear from uh we're going to hear from Ron Howlett and uh David Dennis they're going to be like American Pinball the company that kind of almost sort of kind of almost had something it's So, like, Houdini was good, but the shots were 10% too tight. And Oktoberfest was good, but the most important shot in the game and the coolest-looking shot was the most impossible to hit and practically the only point of the one upper right flipper. And it played forever and ever and ever. The ball just would never go down. So they went from too easy of a shooter to too hard of a shooter, right? And then GTF, incredible art by Franchi, weird mech rate in the middle that caused crazy air balls and made it not that fun to play. But if you avoided that mech like the frickin' Black Plague, maybe, maybe, maybe they kind of sort of had something there, right? And then Berrio's Barbecue. Not the greatest animations, okay? They're not world class. You could say that. You could say they were not world class. If you're trying to be really kind, they weren't even second or third. I don't even think they were third world class. You'd have to get down to, like, the pit of hell to get animations that lame. I feel like they went on like Windows 2008 and got those little clip caption cuts that you could put in there. There was just like the little – like if you just typed sizzling steak, it would be like – and that was it. So that's the thing is American Pinball was always like – you almost had it, guys. You were so close, okay? And you just didn't quite do it. And that's like the thing with Cuphead. You finally made a pinball machine with incredible mechs, with cool art. you finally got a good theme that people know about you finally got a theme that like even okay it's kind of like similar to portal even though i'd say cuphead's a little more relevant a little more modern i'm sorry portal uh like everybody knows the video game portal everybody knows the video game follow everybody knows the video game cuphead does everybody know about beer fest i always call it beer fest people think i'm joking no i think it's called october fest people have heard of the event Oktoberfest and like I've gone to an Oktoberfest event but like very few people have gone to an Oktoberfest event certainly not in Germany or Holland or France or one of the places where it's authentic I think it's mostly Germany but you know and it's it's just not a theme that anyone wants and that would be the same as definitely with barbecue and I love Berrio but Berrio's barbecue is just not enough it's just not enough of a theme whereas Cuphead Cuphead you could have sold a couple hundred to cuphead fans because those cuphead fans not as hardcore as a harry potter fan or i mean i think they're i honestly think they're more hardcore than an avatar fan i would have to imagine i mean uh anyways i've gone off the top of the rails here a little let's get back on choo choo okay so ryan mcquay goes on to explain number two i would like to clarify that i think this is very and this is a very important distinction david fix is a victim like the rest of the development team. He was never even part of the problem. He was there in the trenches with the rest of us and is still trying to do right by his team. All the bad decisions came from above him and he needed to do his best to spin their mistakes in a positive way. David Fix did every single thing in his power to prevent this train wreck and should never be mentioned in the same way as upper management. Oh, damn. I'm sorry. I jumped to the conclusion. And at the very end here, Ryan says, otherwise, well done. Thanks for covering. Okay. All right. There. He thanked me. I appreciate that. This is for the most part a thankless job until you get Patreon. And now I actually feel like I'm being thanked. And because I feel like I'm being thanked for my little bit of work that I put into all the time and energy, I feel like I can ask more questions. I'm, again, not going to call myself a journalist or whatever, like anything like that. But I do think I'm working harder and I'm striving harder and being nudged on gently. You know what? When you call me pathetic and a loser and you financially shame me and make fun of me because you make more in a day than I make in a whole year, that doesn't make me think I want to do a better job. That makes me get angry and grumpy and be a dick and be rude back. So I need to let that stuff fly over my head like I'm at the airport, okay? And I need to concentrate and dig into the positive people in this world that want to hear more from me and want me to do a good job presenting it and want me to dig a bit deeper to find, you know, I'm never going to be an investigative journalist. But from time to time I pretend I a journalist and I do a little investigating How about that How that I think that is that fair once in a while from time to time a couple of you donate to my patreon i don have to beg for coffee sales anymore thankfully i just get to send those out to my highest tier which is is great and by the way great news can a post is back baby so that's correct it is october 13th you have almost two weeks to the day to join that upper tier if you want to get sent out the first stuff that's right we're going to be coming up to two months on patreon and right now i only have three people to stuff send stuff out to and i'm so stoked and excited to do that but i want there to be more people and uh by the way speaking of more people the most recent no it is four people the most recent person to join patreon is none other than jack danger of deadflip so thank you uh to be fair it does only say deadflip pinball streaming maybe it's not jack danger maybe it's just whoever operates as social media. No, I'm just kidding. I'm pretty sure Jack does all of that. So thank you so much, Jack. And something I said on my last podcast for the one or two of you that don't go over there and listen to it because you should, but to the one or two of you that don't, I will let you know that it doesn't matter if it's Jack Danger. It doesn't matter if it's, I call him Rad Ralph. You know him as Retro Ralph. Nah, that's Rad Ralph. That Rad Ralph is like, I love this dude. But like, he's such a positive force, but he also has good, he has good criticism, but he doesn't dwell on the negative when he brings something up and he talks about he doesn't dwell on even dawn over dawn's pinball podcast he brought up that like he was having some rejects from the death star he didn't go on a whole episode about it and do three months of crying and complaining about it he could have but he didn't he brought it up he mentioned it he said he wish it was cooler he made that funny video on his facebook page where he went he's pretending to do the the arnold jenga's voice over there uh when the death star was opening and closing and Death Star Rejects is a real problem and again that's something I want to dig a little bit deeper into as well so watch for that in an upcoming episode I think I do want to see some really good players shoot it at Expo but also like it's been out a while I've heard on from enough pump pinball podcasters I've seen it myself in enough live streams it is a real thing now let's back it up beep beep beep okay we've got to back up the truck back up the old transport truck back it up back it up Terry back it up all right number two this is the second thing and I think this is the most important thing that Ryan McQuaid said and I've been letting this marinate I've been chewing on this I don't say this lightly but Mr. David Fix I apologize I apologize it appears as if many of the mundane and oh I'm trying to say this nicely it appears many of the things that David Fix said that I strongly disagreed with and I felt like he was just trying to cover up for something and I blamed him on David Fix it appears that according to Ryan McQuaid it wasn't David Fix being a mega moron it was the management being mega morons and I love Mega Men especially Mega Man 2 for the Super NES uh no that was for the regular Nintendo but I don't love mega morons in fact the time when I hate myself the most is when I'm a mega moron and I'm a mega moron a lot So as a person who's basically a professional mega moron, I apologize to a non-mega moron who I thought was a mega moron, Mr. David Fix. I thought you were. But I'm going to read again. And please, I'm not going to try to do a Ryan McQuaid voice. I'm not. But I'm going to speak clearly and slowly here. I want you guys to listen to this part because he's really bringing this home. And I think it's only fair to David Fix before we get to Expo that if you were like me and you were a little harsh to him, just shake his hand and say, hey, dude, sorry about how things went down in AP, but thanks for trying, bro. Because it sounds like David Fix did everything within his power to put out the fires that were being started by management. And I think a lot of the pinball podcasters just assumed because of the crap that was coming out of David's mouth all the time that he was a mega moron. and it appears like no the management were mega morons david fix is only a minor moron that's a joke you're not a moron at all i love you david fix that's a joke okay sorry jeez jeepers creepers hopefully i didn't take that too far uh david fix doesn't listen i i can tell by the microphone he's used in all of his interviews he's never heard a single solitary pinball podcast in his life but Ryan McQuaid does listen and uh ryan this is what ryan said and i want to just slow this down. I want you guys to really listen. It's only three sentences, okay? I would like to clarify, and I think this is a very important distinction. David Fix is a victim like the rest of the development team. He was never even a part of the problem. He was there in the trenches with the rest of us and is still trying to do right by his team. All the decisions came from above him and he needed to do his best to spin them or to spin their mistakes in a positive way. David did every single thing in his power to prevent this train wreck and should never be mentioned in the same way as upper management. Otherwise, thanks. Well done. Otherwise, well done. Thanks for covering it. Ryan McQuaid. So Ryan, thank you for reaching out. And honestly, I have always felt a little bad. I felt like I've been a little bit mean, a little bit tough on David Fix. Even I remember even Steven Bowden grabbed me at D82 and he did it in a very nice way. He didn't physically grab me and like run out the door with me and be like, what's your problem, or be stopping mean to David Fix in American Pinball. But he was like, dude, just try to like maybe be a i'm not going to go in the conversation we had but it was a very cool conversation we talked for 15 or 20 minutes he was pretty chill about it and honestly just getting to meet like Steven Bowden and get to talk to him face to face eye to eye get to see each other feel each other out i really felt like i'm going to have more respect for this man because then you remember it's not just a person it's not just Steve Ritchie or keith ellwynn or these gods that we put up on a pedestal that we talk about like they're not actual people then you remember steven bowden is a person you know Keith Elwin is a person look i don't do this podcast to specifically not hurt keith Keith Elwin's feelings i don't do this podcast though just to like you know be a negative nancy and debbie downer on every pinball machine that i help up to the day it comes out and then i hate every pinball machine after that and look for the one tiniest flaw in every pinball machine and blow it up for six or seven months? No, that's just not what I do, okay? I go off track. I'm a rambling man. And every single day, I'm hustling, hustling, hustling, hustling. No, I'm trying to be more serious in this pinball podcast. I'm just in such a great mood. I got to see my son last night. He came over for Thanksgiving. He brought his best buddy, Carson, with him. Shout out to Carson. He used to listen to the show for like the first 100 episodes when I moved out here. No clue how he did it since he barely plays pinball. Well, he does when he's with us, but anyways, also a little sad announcement. My oldest son, sad for me, happy for his bank account, sad for his dad. I'm really, really close with my oldest son, and even though we had a couple beefs like his last year he lived here, now that he's moved out, we're back to being like best friends again, and I'm not even kidding you. I would say this in front of Melvis Megaphone. I would say this right in front of big Eric N. I would do it. I would tell them, like, Hayden's like my best friend besides my wife. So, like, best friend status goes drop target Danielle, and then equally tied in second place is obviously little Orby Jr., my son who still lives here, and then, you know, the hey dude himself. And, oh, by the way, I did mention this, I believe, on the last show, but if not, Hayden did get fourth place in the last tournament, bumped himself a couple spots, and now he's like the bubble boy to go to New Brunswick. So anyways, okay, let's put a bow on the whole thing with David Fix. I was probably a little bit wrong about David Fix. I was thinking all the hyperbole we were hearing, all the BSing we were hearing from David Fix was just David Fix running the show over there. And I think really David Fix was more so like the leader of the development team, it sounds like, from Ryan McQuaid. and not just myself, but I think a lot of other pinball podcasters, one in particular, but definitely a lot of us other pinball podcasters might owe a small, if this is true, if what Ryan McQuaid is saying here, okay, this last sentence is so important. David did every single thing in his power to prevent this train wreck and should never be mentioned in the same way as upper management. So if that is true, and I'm going to give Ryan McQuaid the benefit of the out. The dude seems like the straightest freaking shooter on planet Earth. He's never said anything in here to hype himself up or make other companies look bad. Ryan McQuaid would love nothing else. I should go to Barrels of Fun. I do have my Facebook open. I'm done reading that. Barrels of Fun is supposed to announce who they are hiring today. Wow, if it was Ryan McQuaid, listen Ryan McQuaid you don't have to garnish your wages or anything like that uh but uh the 13th day of the 13th hour so this would be at one o'clock wouldn't that be 1 p.m what time bro you can't put 1 p.m with it dude barrels of fun okay listen you have people from Europe you have people from the east coast the west coast of North America people from Canada you might even have people in Iceland No, probably not. But Japan, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, we know that. Shout out to Jenga's. We've got, you know, Neil over there, the UK pinball, the UK pinball open master himself. Right. So it says here Barrels of Fun is up. up Oh okay A haunting under the glass What Winchester mystery house pinball trailer What What is happening barrels of fun just released a new game oh excuse me there goes some of that turkey what the what who did this art it gorgeous holy shit okay uh rebecca salem said who did this art it's gorgeous shout out to rebecca uh nick mantia says holy shats but not he didn't say shats this game looks incredible it's going to sell out. I hope they reuse the layout of Dracula for a Dracula or Castlevania type. I don't even know what a Winchester Mystery House is. I don't know. Winchester Mystery House. A haunting under the glass look. What the frick? Barrels of Fun? Okay, I thought they were announcing someone new was getting hired. The 13th hour has struck. The doors have opened. For Barrels of Fun's second anniversary, we welcome new faces luke underwood our electrical and prototype engineer and jeff dirty pool dodson that's right our audio and music guru together with designer what carl d'Python Anghelo of ie pinball pinball what pinball fame to bring us our latest creation to life the winchester mystery house pinball what the guys i have to do a top five i thought i already knew what today's episode was about wow this is all happening in real time i you can see i'm 31 minutes into this podcast i had absolutely no clue this was happening are you telling me that carl d'Python Anghelo designed a pinball machine are you telling me that carl d'Python Anghelo designed a pinball machine i'm sorry i'm so excited guys i have to stop recording so i can go scream in a box i'm sorry this is so cool this is so cool. That's what I don't even know what's happening, guys. OK, I'm going to turn the volume this way. You're going to get literally a live reaction. I don't think anyone knew like a pinball machine. What is going on? What? Oh, my God. I don't think anyone knew that this was coming out today. OK, hopefully you can kind of sort of still hear me. I'm going to play this on YouTube. And if I have to go grab my JBL mic, I will. I didn't. I said today's pinball podcast wouldn't go over half an hour, so I'd go hiking in the forest. I want to grab a couple more trees to chop down. Man, using a chainsaw is fun. Some people are like, I don't like using it. Okay, now being in the forest, using just the handsaw, because my chainsaw is not portable, kind of lame. I just have a cheap Sun Joe, the plug-in one, because it was $49, and I'm very poor. Okay, let's take a look at this. Turn the volume on. What the? Where's the volume? Winchester. Is there no volume? Barrels of Fun. Well, it looks cool. Is there really no volume, though? Okay. I don't understand. Oh, I know why there's no volume. I have this plugged in. Wow. It looks really cool. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Guys, I've got to go watch this like 50 times and come back. Tomorrow, I will do a top five rad and one bad for this. Wow. This is Barrels of Fun. This is so cool. So we have Jeff of Dirty Pool Pinball, who recently just tossed me a free sub, maybe for asking such excellent journalistic questions when he had Tom of Fox Cities Pinball on. This pin looks so cool. I can't even do – oh, my God. The whole building comes down, guys. They got that screen in the back. It's like a haunted mansion type thing. They have this thing that spins in the middle that looks like that junk panda. Remember junk panda? What was that called? What was the Trash Panda 3000 pinball machine? Winchester Mystery House. On first glance, I like the artwork. It's given me like – it's got like a Ouija board. Whoa, it does have a Ouija board. It has literally a Ouija board. Say what you will about Barrels of Fun, but they win the apron game because the apron on Dune was incredible. Now the apron on this maybe looks even prettier. Wow, because it's all Ouija-ed. And then they got the car going in or the ball going to the silo back there. They got the spinny trough in the middle. There's like a screen back there. Really good implementation of that screen. It's almost like you're at a drive-in at the back. They've got stained glass everywhere. Wow. Okay, I have to go formulate a top five rad and one bad for this. Today is supposed to be Ryan McQuaid's day. Come hell or high water, I'm making this about Ryan McQuaid. I'm making this about David Fix. This is my official apology to David Fix. I am not too proud when I kind of screw up and I'm a bit of a dick to somebody like I was to Don and Jenga's earlier this year a little bit. And like I was definitely to David Fix over the years. Maybe, you know what, I just got to step back and take a look at myself. Maybe it's not everybody else that's a mega moron. Maybe it's me sometimes. So I'll be straight up and be the first person to say that. Wow. Oh, my God. Carl D'Python Anghelo. Wow. Now, I will say this. smartest smartest possible move by barrels of fun to hire carl d'Python Anghelo as a designer maybe even better than Ryan McQuaid i'm not gonna lie because carl freaking knows pinball i absolutely love carl i'm so happy for him that he's uh getting to to do this and that's this is so great jeff's officially it looks like working over there i know he was helping with their sound a little the same way that like dawn's helping out with like their designs and mechs and whatever needs done over there at at um spooky the same way jeff was helping out for a few months and now it's official he's doing their sound integration there he's doing their music their sound all that kind of good for him and that's so cool i wondered what was going well i didn't necessarily wonder but i thought i wonder if something's up because right after jeff started working with barrels of fun all of a sudden we saw carl d'Python Anghelo uh wow wow carl d'Python Anghelo is a pinball designer who knew about this probably everybody but me i'm probably the last and that's kind of the cool part about my show because you're just listening to a pinball blog about a dude who's super is is super passionate about pinball and i don't have good enough relationships with enough people in pinball to hear about all this stuff in advance so i just get to be surprised like the rest of you all There's probably people in pinball who knew that Carl designed Haunting Under the Glass. Winchester Mystery House pinball trailer. There's probably some people that knew about this long, long, long before me. I just wasn't one of them. But this is so cool. So I am going to be back tomorrow. I'm going to be back on tomorrow's episode. Jeez, I'll tell you this. Even if now, just to give this episode a little bit of time to breathe, even if six to eight hours from now, okay, it's it's it's sitting around 1 p.m my time if i even get one just one new patreon member i'm sitting at 25 paid and two freebies not the free people i hope lots of free people join to listen to drop target danielle and i but if i get just one more paid member and bump up to 26 i'll be back today with the winchester mystery house pinball trailer and frankly i apologize again to david fix i apologize even to Ryan McQuaid i didn't plan on doing two pinball podcasts today but you guys know me. I eat, sleep, and breathe. Guys, somebody freaking hire Mr. Ryan McQuaid. Come on. He's a rad designer. He works hard, makes such cool products. Yeah, someone go hire him. Until next time, pinball nerds, thank you so much for everything. The other thing I did want to mention really quickly was Planetary Pinball. Kerry Hardy was showing the release of those new figurines as a collectible dealer i'll tell you what you're missing you're missing a story you need a story when the story came out of roger sharp every person in pinball knows who the hell roger sharp is when colin of the kinetesis released his everybody was like oh my god hold my beer let me donate go donate blood let me go donate plasma let me go donate semen if i have to let me go sell the farm i need that roger sharp toy it's such a cool limited edition collectible it's signed by roger sharp it's limited to a hundred toys that are signed by roger sharp on planet earth okay that are and by the designer i believe of the toy as well and in my case i made colin sign it no i'm just kidding that i should have done that though i did i yeah anyways i i I'm going to miss the media mixer. Anyways, I really want to lay into these planetary pinball toys, but I think I might have to do that for a behind the paywall because I really, really want to lay into the Tilt-A-Whirl by American Pinball, or should I say Orbit Pinball. Orbit Pinball and your first thing you're releasing doesn't have an orbit. Didn't you know that Orbit has to do with the most famous, the most wonderful pinball shot in Orbit because the ball can fly back at your flippers because the ball could go anywhere. It could get locked. to go hang out for a while back there with the pop bumpers, okay? It's not a boring shot like a ramp, where, oh, it just comes back to your flip or back to your flip. That's so predictable. An orbit shot, much like Orbital Albert, is a little wild, a little crazy, a little unpredictable, but always exciting and always fun. Until next time, pinball nerds, if you want to hear more of me and Danielle, go over there. I'm going to put a link right here for you to go over there and have a listen. And please, for the love of God, one person today, I don't even care if it's midnight. If just one person joins the paid Patreon, you will get a second episode today. If not, you're waiting until tomorrow, the next day, or the next day. And I like to be hot and fresh. I'd rather be hot and fresh. I also shouldn't be doing two episodes a day when I have family and obligations and it's fall around here on the homestead. And I might be cooked after a whole day of being a lumberjack. Who knows? Anyways, pinball nerds, until next time, let's get stoked for Expo. Should I hire a pinball? Should I do a pin turn or a scavenger hunt probably for Expo? I think I should. All right, pinball nerds, have a rad day, and happy Thanksgiving from Canada. Until next time, remember to eat, sleep, and breathe. Ryan McQuaid, pinball. Hire that man!
