  • “If I'm an artist, if I'm a designer, if I'm writing code on a machine and I've been working so hard on it for 12 months or six months, and I know that there's going to be an announcement that everyone's going to celebrate my hard work, and then it gets leaked and somebody else reports it, it's got to kind of like just be a bummer.”

Ken Cromwell @ ~mid-episode — Articulates emotional/professional cost of leaked announcements for creators; frames issue beyond 'right/wrong' as harm to livelihood

Coming at you out of St. Charles, Illinois, the Special When Lit Pinball Podcast starts now. Here are your hosts, Ken Cromwell and Bill Webb. Hey, Pinball Land, what's going on? Episode number 18 of the Special When Lit Pinball Podcast. I'm Ken, he's Bill. We're here to entertain and inform for the next 30, 45 minutes or so. Before we get into the news of pinball, let's talk about the personal life of pinball with Bill Webb. And Bill, what's going on with the Whirlwind Project? Ah, Whirlwind Project. So I actually got some time this weekend to start cutting up the cabinet. I saw those pics posted on Facebook and they look awesome, man. Very, very nice. Yeah, it's getting there. I got probably another four or five hours before the bottom cabinet would be complete. When I say complete though, you know, it's, I use a ratchet strap to hold it together Johnny Pinball Game Boomer How the boom's done How's it done As it went blah blah blah What is going on We so ready John Popadiuk, Automated Amusements, Rayder K. Sheats Jr., Loser Kid Pinball Podcast, INDISC, Scott Danesi. That's, it's craziness in there, actually. Yeah. I mean. So it's, so yeah, I mean, that part's refreshing. The game, it's coming along, it looks great. No major hiccups yet, so that's good. Do you have a guesstimation on the completion date for when this will be unveiled and ready to, ready to be flippable and playing? Yeah, an unobtainable goal would be New Year's Eve. Oh, that would be great. That's, I mean, and that's not very far off. I was thinking about this today. Hey, I took my three-year-old daughter for a walk and I was just thinking to myself, man, expo's here, then Halloween, next month is Thanksgiving, and in two weeks, or two months you've got Christmas and then New Year's. I don't know where the time goes, it's just going so fast now. And I know specifically for the two of us, I mean, we've got our full-time jobs, we've got our families, we took on the podcast, which has been really fun, and it's just, there's not a lot of free time. The Out Pinball Podcast is a production of WGBH. The only thing that's the problem with fall is that it's depressing because I know winter's coming and I can't stand snow. I hate it. I hate snow. I hate living in the Midwest during wintertime. It's just the worst experience of my life. But we're not going to be negative on the Carl Weathers when we can be negative about other things. True. But you know the best part of that is you get to relive winter every winter. Yeah, I can't stand it. I can't stand it. Before we get into the pinball news, I wanted to bring something to your attention. And this, I just kind of saw this today as I was doing some searching on Pinside. And there's a thread that was started, and for those who don't know, Pinside.com is an online forum group for pinball enthusiasts, by Tuna Delight. And the topic of the thread was this, pinball podcast fatigue. The gist of his post was that he's I think he's listening to a pretty good handful of podcasts ten or so he's we want to know what other people are listening to I think it's almost like a burnout that's happening for him and for other people that were within this thread some people didn't want to listen to pinball podcast whatsoever some people had a specific group of pinball podcast that they listened to but I think there was some that were like you know what instead of listening to all these podcasts that essentially report the same thing. What do I narrow my podcast search down to? Well, you know, honestly, Ken and I, you know, we were talking about this before we started this podcast of, you know, how fast this has grown and how well this has been going for us. And, you know, hopefully everyone that listens is entertained by it. They get some laughs like we do. And whether there's great news or no news, you know, they don't feel like they wasted 45 minutes of their day. You know, they feel like they're just hanging out with their, you know, with their buddies talking pinball smack. You know, I mean, that was honestly where I think we wanted to be at with this. Yeah, you nailed it. But this whole podcast, the whole thing was, it was an, for those that are catching on the show late, and we're not going to take up a ton of time on this, but myself and Bill, we are in this group of pinball enthusiasts that are in the St. Charles, Illinois area, and we had rotating hosting schedules where every week we would get together. Myself and Bill found ourselves talking more about pinball than we did playing pinball. And then we would find ourselves on the phone the next morning and the next morning he's driving into work and I'm getting ready to rock and roll for my work day. We're talking pinball, talking pinball, and at some point it just made sense. It'd be kind of fun to share these thoughts with people that are listening to a pinball podcast. So for those of you that are just catching on late on Special One Lit Pinball Podcast, this podcast is more of an extension of our pinball conversations than it is reporting news or doing interviews or offering general opinions. I think where we kind of have our niche maybe in this pinball podcast marketplace is that We are a little bit more diverse where we can kind of focus on either of those categories. That being said... New and because we're local, some of the interviews that are... Yeah, right. And I want to say this too, like I think that the... how we've been received in general has completely surpassed our expectations and it's caused us to raise our bar in the content that we're offering. And I think that was a big reason why we continued on with the interview processes and trying We're so grateful to have you on the show. We're so grateful to have you on the show. We're so grateful to have you on the show. We're so grateful to have you on the show. I think it's also given us other obligations to where we want to make sure that we're not letting anybody down. That was not even anything that I really thought of when we started the podcast. This is more of, hey, let's just put it out there. If we get 50 people that want to listen to what we're doing, it makes it worth it. It's just gone so beyond that. So again, thank you, thank you, thank you. Out Pinball Podcast, INDISC, Scott Danesi. These are the criticisms we normally get in our lives. Or you know, you need to fix this, this, and this. So. The wifey list. Yeah. Honeydo. You could be doing this. Because I honey don't, evidently. All the time. Right. Exactly. Yeah. Exactly. So I don't know. I guess that's our little intro to the show for those of you that are catching on late on the Special Win Lit Pinball Podcast. Thanks. Come along for the ride. We're sticking around for a while. We're not going anywhere, right? No. No. So far as we know. Thank you very much for listening, guys. Thanks. Right, so far. So, we're not going to talk Expo until the end of the show because, listen guys, if you are going to Expo or if you're going to that Pinball Life party that's kind of corresponding with Expo this year, we have a ridiculous prize list that we initially were going to make a huge grand prize out of, but at this point so many of the manufacturers and the mod makers jumped on board to help us support Expo and to support the podcast. It just makes sense for us to spread the wealth. So essentially, anybody that follows these real simple contest rules, which is posting a picture of yourself next to our banner at Expo or at Pinball Life, you've got a pretty good chance of coming away with some pinball swag or some prizes. But instead of getting into that right now, let's do that at the end of the podcast. For those that aren't going to Expo or don't care, you can turn us off at that point. But let's do this. Elvira 3 was speculated this weekend on another podcast that this might be a game that's coming out sooner than later, meaning 2018, this year. Now, for those of you that don't know the background on the Elvira games, you have Elvira and the Party Monsters, which was a System 11 pin. Then you have Scared Stiff, which came out in, I think, 96, 97, somewhere in that area. I think Elvira and the Party Monsters was 89, if I'm not mistaken. I'll double check while we're... Okay. And now the anticipation is Elvira 3, which is the rekindling of the moment for Greg Freres and Dennis Nordman. And I guess the rumor on the street for a while is that Dennis has already completed the playfield design for this game, and it's been kind of sitting, waiting for its proper release. Now, I'm assuming that Greg Freres is doing art package on this, since he did the art package on the prior two pins. So, I think we were kind of thinking that this was going to be released in 2019 at some point, but it was speculated this weekend on a source that it had given information that it will be coming out in 2018, which is, what, another two, three months. Yeah. So, I mean, are you hearing anything other than what we initially thought, which was 2019? No, I haven't, and I don't know how that would actually correspond with all the other rumors that we have actually heard. Too many pinball machines coming out. I mean, Stern's going to throw, what, four pinball machines out in the next three months? Yeah, no. Makes no sense. No, everything will be fighting with itself, you know, especially with the other manufacturers that are, you know, putting stuff out now or maybe putting stuff out in the future. I mean, that would be like an overabundance right then and there. Well, it's already, I mean, it's kind of an overabundance of pins that are coming out currently, but yeah, to have Stern release four pins. So, I mean, I guess at that point, if Elvira were to come out in 2018, you would have to pull Beatles or you would have to pull Munsters. There is now speculation that there's another, a third kind of like side project pin that's coming in. We can discuss that a little bit later. That was reported by This Week in Pinball and I think Head to Head Pinball Podcast today. But let's focus on Elvira 3 for a second. I'm with you. I've not, I've not heard anything about that release date being moved up. I don't know what the release date is, but it certainly isn't 2018 from what I thought that I had heard. So if this is actually happening, I guess Cassandra Peterson's agent was contacted by this source that confirmed that Stern did have the license and that it was licensed or contracted to be released in 2018. We all know if anything is susceptible to changes, it's the pinball industry. Oh yeah, you can change it in the blink of an eye when you have to. Absolutely. Even the order of releases, it seems that there's an uproar in that right now with what's going on. So yeah, you know, it's fun to speculate and it's fun to talk about, but Special Winlet Pinball Podcast, I think I can speak for both of us at this point, we are not anticipating Elvira 3 coming out in 2018. That is still most likely a 2019 release. And if it does come out in 2018, then surprise on us. Hey, you know what? And if it did come out in 2018, I'd be like, you know, other than the one source that said it was coming out this year, they did a good job of hiding it. Well, yeah, and that's the other thing. At what point is there disinformation out there that are being given to podcasters? And let me say this. We're kind of in a unique situation where as podcasters, we are sometimes given information that doesn't necessarily directly come from the manufacturers. The Out Pinball Podcast is a production of WGBH. It's a dick move to do it. It really, really is. It doesn't mean that we're not going to break a story because I think at some point we may gain some trust where a manufacturer is like, yeah, you know what, just go with it. Go ahead and talk about that. And that's fine. And if it doesn't happen, that's fine too. But we're not in the business of ruining people's dreams and livelihood and passion of putting all this creativity into a pinball machine, number one. The Out Pinball Podcast is a production of WGBH. We'll see you next time. We'd like to hear your thoughts on your favoritezin and Freddy Erich'sצ yesterday's game, where you finished playing sequel to온ith Pinball, Famlos, and Finlair on Hot Whippin' out Pinball, and it was us who was the bestin, Callie McBride andTwinty Cons€ deinem D 벌 subtitles oz Ins0,ulated by Naziгород. And I think I wanted to say thanks to setuplaughsthere that it's aumentative, and gotta say, Stand Up Pitball will let usenour chipt 분들ist some great lies to theuci checked out spin be Two of us put an entire theischen empathize in ghassanhan has similar tastes in pinball machines and in designs and in in flow and or if it stop and go uh and and then take those people and and take their critiques into your own personal considerations and you not going to ever match up perfectly with any one person but at least gives you a little bit of a you know footnote on what you may or may not like and i also want to say this bill i not denouncing anybody that does make that decision to take information and and throw that out there for the pinball public uh that I'm not necessarily saying that's right or that's wrong. That's not for me to decide. Yeah, we don't speak for other people. No, but for my own personal values and for my own personal belief in this industry, I just choose not to do that unless I'm given the blessing from the people that are working behind a project. It doesn't make me right. It doesn't make me wrong, but it lets me put my head on the pillow at night and sleep the sleep of the just. Yep. Well, you know, I mean, I think we come from a little bit different place than other people because we've seen people that in this business, once again, business, that have put their heart and soul into something and then watched their feelings get crushed when people crap all over it. You know, there's one thing to say, you know, hey, it's cool, it's not for me, and saying that this game's terrible or it's just complete shit, you know. And you know what, if they understood how they were making somebody feel, I'm sure I'd like to hope that they would, you know, be a little bit more cautious in what they're saying. Well, it is not even necessarily, and I see exactly what you're saying, and I found that interesting. Like, I remember we asked Steve Ritchie specifically if public opinion when a pinball machine was coming out, if it affected him. And he was like, absolutely. He's like, for sure it does. I mean, that's why I can't jump on certain sites anymore, because they hated this and they hated that before it even came out. And it wasn't until later on that they realized that they appreciated it. and he didn't want to put himself through that emotional rollercoaster. I totally get that. But I'm even talking about just without having an opinion on something, breaking a story or revealing information that is not intended for public consumption, if that makes any sense. Oh, no, it does. Like, for instance, Jeff Patterson at This Week in Pinball walks into deeproot and Robert Mueller's like, hey, Jeff, welcome. This is what we have going on over here and these are some of the things that we're working on, but it's not for public consumption. The Out Pinball Podcast is a production of WGBH. We'll be right back. I don't want to put somebody in a bad position where something got out that shouldn't have and somebody got in trouble. You know, I think that we would fail if literally we talked about something that wasn't meant for the public to hear and somebody got, you know, had a meeting over it or gotten deep shit over it. Because that's not cool. Then you're messing with someone's livelihood. And that part I don't like. Well, somebody gets in trouble or honestly it's like, and I don't know how important like a pinball reveal is for those that are in everyday life. They probably don't realize that these machines and these companies, I mean, this is the livelihood for these people. If I'm an artist, if I'm a designer, if I'm writing code on a machine and I've been working so hard on it for 12 months or six months, and I know that there's going to be an announcement that everyone's going to celebrate my hard work, and then it gets leaked and somebody else reports it, it's got to kind of like just be a bummer. Again, I'm not saying it's right or wrong for somebody to do that. It's just not how I roll. I'm on a rant here because with our situations with being in this pinball podcast industry, so to speak, we are privy to information. And some of it, a lot of it comes, I think, offhand and off the cuff. And yeah, would it be fun to be able to talk about all this stuff? Join us 1-800-272-F olvideonbitballpodcast.com visit flycityjohn aware毛 accounts to 920ㅋㅋfolk det The Out Pinball Podcast is a production of WGBH. We're going to be talking about the Octoberfest and we had that kind of teaser pick at the playfield and there was speculation of what's going on there. But this past weekend, I guess distributors have received general artwork packages on this machine in which it looked to me like they could use for advertising purposes at a show. Hey, come reserve your copy of this today. And it shows the bartender and it shows the beer made, so to speak. The Out Pinball Podcast is brought to you by American Pinball, LLC. The Out Pinball Podcast is a production of WGBH. Translite artwork, essentially. Yeah. It looks cool. You know, in all honesty, it's hard for me to give a complete opinion on it because I want to see the whole game. You've got to see the whole game. But I mean, Translites are iconic for most games. Like if somebody tells me what a game is, like I think almost the first thing I think of is what the Translite artwork. So if somebody says, hey, Houdini, I'm like, oh, I know exactly what the Houdini looks like. If somebody says, hey, Oktoberfest, now I've got that image in my head. There are those that are just kind of creeped out a little bit by the lady that's in that picture. It seems like the bartender is a fun dude that everybody's kind of accepted, but I guess the lady kind of looks like somewhat of a contortionist with a joker face, and some people find her to be a little bit scary and eerie, whereas others are like, yeah, who cares? It's just the style of art direction. Did you have an opinion one way or the other? She looks interesting. Chris JohnsonЗдuff We'll be right back. Cheeks are a little flushed. Cheeks are a little rosy. Yeah. She's got some lipstick. She's got the smiley mouth going. It's not horrible. I mean, it's art. I think any of this can be adjusted. I'm not completely turned off by it, in all honesty. Is it like what I anticipated as far as female artwork on this Translight? It absolutely isn't, but it absolutely falls in line with what American Pinball was trying to do, and that was to make this a family-friendly theme, We'll be right back. When I first saw the leaked pic with this, I'm assuming it's going to be the Translight pic, she didn't stand out to me as much as she does now with other people pointing out some of her contortionist kind of body faults and whatnot. In the face, I don't know, I guess when I'm playing the pinball machine, I'm not three inches away from her face staring at that. She's on the back glass. So let's see what the playfield looks like and let's see what the animations look like. And we're going to see that again Thursday night, Chicago Expo. And more importantly, see how it plays. Exactly, see how it plays. Josh Kugler, he went ahead and leaked another pic of that right-hand side of the cabinet with the double buttons, which is one button on top of the other. But you got an opportunity to see a little bit more of the playfield or the cabinet art this time. I noticed which looked like a rock kind of texture with the American pinball emblem or logo right there, kind of where the leg is at. So let's see what happens with that whole situation. And again, normal, American Pinball, I'm asking you for the party of the century. I don't want to walk into that reveal and be bored. I don't want to walk in and see nobody doing anything. I bought a really cool Halloween costume that I would potentially wear at that reveal if it made sense. And it's like, it looks like one of those German guys are holding me on their shoulders outrageously by allows for his uh... shoulders and it's awesome i gotta como jz germen enhanced in everybody on staff thisibilidad had to wear though the leader hosing or whatever it's called were one of those classes and just have some fun hey if they could they do that looks likeISAN and that's for me all and they would be on senate contortionist you have to do take-al fringe uh... buchanan transitionist arch Kick-ass reveal party. That would be the reveal of the century. You throw some beer in there. Oh, my goodness gracious. Who knows what's going on? All right. So we go in the next, again, into some breaking news with Beatles. More speculation on what's going to be offered with that title. So at this point, I think that we've kind of figured out or that we can almost say for certain that it's a Kapow and Stern title. And obviously it's Beatles. We're not sure of the order in which it's going to be coming out. We do know or we think that we know that it's a Stern See-Witch style playfield, a potential re-theme that may have something added or tweaks to the playfield. And it was speculated this weekend that there would be spinning discs or a spinning disc We'll be adding to that see which play field to kind of mix things up a little bit. What are your thoughts on spinning discs in pinball in general? I think they're cool. I think they had a definite enhancement to the game. You know, I think not being able to predict where it's going to go is pretty awesome. You know, it's like putting... See, now there are those that hate that. Like tournament players, competitive pinball players, they like to be able to have as much control as they can. So something that's so random that can throw the ball into an out lane or down the middle is a big turn off. But you like that randomness. You like not knowing where the ball is going to go. But I'm not playing for money. I'm not playing for a machine. You're playing for burritos all the damn time. Yeah, damn right. Now, that being said, it's like the pop bumpers on Adam's family because they're lower on the left side. If you overshoot the ball out of the shooter lane, it can go into those pops and screw you pretty fast. Yeah. You know, if you miss your skill shot. But I like that. So, I think the spinning disc is cool. Spinning discs and magnets, you know, it just, it adds a different element to the play field. Well, and then when you have new people over that say, oh, there's magnets under the game, you know, at least you can say, yeah, good time. Right, right. Spinning discs, you know, it's something that's moving. I'm wondering if there's anything else that they would add to Sea Witch, assuming that that's what's going on. Again, we don't know this for sure. We're just commenting on speculation and it'd be interesting to see what actually happens. All right, so in other pinball news, pinball related news, we had an announcement this week or we kind of, we posted on our page the announcement of the Chicago Pinball Hall of Fame. Now, at the time when we had posted that there was going to be a Chicago Pinball Hall of Fame and we linked to the Facebook page that popped up, we weren't able to give any information as to who was behind it or what was going on. Now that being said, we still can't offer a ton of information, but it's in the public domain now that Nick Parks and Brooke Parks of the Pinball Company are bringing a Chicago Hall of Fame to Chicago, right? Or is it in Chicago? I mean, in the Chicagoland area, there will be a Chicago Pinball Hall of Fame. Have you been to the Las Vegas Pinball Hall of Fame before? I have not. I have actually never been to Vegas. Wow, I've never been to Vegas. Out of everyone that listens, we're probably the only two. You know what? When we hit 100 episodes, we've got to go to Vegas. That sounds good. Yeah, seriously. We should do something like that. If we're still alive and doing this for 100 episodes, I think we will be. God willing, we'll be alive and kicking. What kind of things do you want to see in a Chicago Pinball Hall of Fame? Because it could go one of three ways. It can be just something that acknowledges everybody's ... Anybody that was a main contributor Keith Elwin, Gerald R. Goldner, uhhD flash if u n We see you next time You have a situation where you can read about somebody history and then play those games that you just read about and kind of combine the two And then on top of all that you can mix it with or without alcohol All right. So I'd like to see... What's your ideal pinball hall of fame, Bill? All right. So number one, a lot of the games, you know, when I say a lot of the games, obviously your newer stuff, your Sterns, Jersey Jacks, Spooky, Deeproot, American Pinball. All the newer games. P3, Multimorphic. P3, Multipar... Yeah. I'm becoming a fan. That would be cool to have access to those. A lot of those titles are just so expensive that most people can't afford to buy them. Yeah. Normally, when you go to some place that's location pinball, you're looking at, I would say on average, a handful of machines. You're not walking into a place that's going to have 20 or 30 pins, with the exception of the very high-end, upscale, popular places that are scattered throughout the United States. The Out Pinball Podcast is a production of WGBH. We'll see you next time on Pinball Podcast. We'll see you next time on Pinball Talk Radio. I would love to see a section that is history related and some real cool, you know, glassed off exhibits of, you know, early playfields and stuff like that. Couldn't agree with you more. You know, history of... Yeah. Half, not half museum, but I mean, I think it'd be pretty cool to see history artifacts regarding pinball, you know, like... Induction ceremonies would be pretty cool too. Yep. You know, and Lifetime Achievement Awards, like, and to be able to have that at a central location out of Chicago. And this isn't saying anything poorly or denouncing the Las Vegas Hall of Fame, because I think that's a great place to have a Pinball Hall of Fame. Yep. But to have one in the Chicagoland area makes complete sense, because all of these machines, for the most part, came out of here at one point. So to have a Hall of Fame here, I mean, it's the best of both worlds. Oh yeah, and you know what, honestly I want to say, you know, I think it would be cool to have like Pat Lawler and George Gomez Holopin. That was the mock-up of the Pin 2000 that, you know, got everybody hyped up. Oh, like the prototype shell, kind of? Yeah, that's exactly what it is. It's the prototype of the Pinball 2000 platform, you know, just so people could get a visual because when they, you know, started to tell people about it, no one got excited, so they built this mock-up of Pinball 2000, which was the Holopin. CANYON怖ética xASSES John Popadiuk's version of the Pinball 2000 where you had the monitor sticking through a regular pinball cabinet. You know, stuff like that, if room and stuff like that permits. Right. But yeah, just cool history artifacts like that about pinball. Well, let me ask you this. As we get back to Chicago Pinball Expo, we're from the area, obviously, we're right outside of Chicago. Like, where would you put it? Like, where's the ideal spot to put it? Is it in the city, in Chicago? No, I think... Is it an outlying suburb? You know, I'm gonna say this and you know, I'm thinking st. Charles, Illinois, but you know, it's just because we're close I will say this too All right, not to be confused with st. Charles, Missouri because I've not visited there but st. Charles, Illinois is a tourism spot downtown st. Charles there's a lot of history there and Whereas we're not going to get a Chicago Pinball Hall of Fame I would love for somebody to consider putting location pinball in downtown st. Charles With hotel Baker the Arcata theater it just I mean it makes sense to have something there oblivious.star, The Out Pinball Podcast is brought to you by the Out Pinball Podcast Network. We'll see you next time. Steve・ hago que te veeti tanplantado jag Piccode dale langit Without Потом The Out Pinball Podcast is a production of WGBH. Thank you so very much to the pinball manufacturers and the pinball mod makers and suppliers and suppliers. Yeah, that decided that they wanted to jump in on this with us to celebrate Expo and do a little cross promotion. We were completely caught off guard by blowing away with the general. Yeah, very, very, very cool. We're going to get into that in a second. But there's three ways to win a prize. And there are so many prizes that if you're able to do any of these things, you've got We're gonna have two banners. One banner that says Special Winlet Pinball Podcast will be at Pinball Life. This banner will be at the Pinball Life party which will be taking place Thursday and Friday and that's in conjunction with Pinball Expo. If you take your picture or have somebody take your picture next to our banner and you Chinese And this is a big banner. It's like six feet tall. You know, it's got our logo on it. It's got the Pinball Expo logo on the bottom. It's got our Facebook information on the bottom. But if you have an opportunity to take your picture, a selfie, or have somebody else take your picture next to that banner, upload that to your Facebook page or upload that to our Facebook page, you get an entry to win. The third is this. Now we realize that those of you that aren't in a position to go to Expo or aren't in position to go to Pinball Life, we don't wanna leave you out in the dark. We want to give you an opportunity to walk away with some pretty cool pinball swag or pinball merchandise too. So we're going to ask you to do this because I noticed this today. Dude, we have no reviews of our pinball podcast on our Facebook page or on iTunes or anything. So we're like this ghost entity of pinball podcasting. Now I'm hoping we haven't completely pissed people off where they don't even want to comment on it. But I'm going to ask you to do this. If you can't make pit expo and you can't make pinball life, offer a review, offer a review of our podcast on our Facebook page or on iTunes. And I want to say this, I'm not asking you to give us... Don't show our podcast. No. If you think that we're terrible or whatever, well, please be kind in your criticism. Right. But be honest. Yeah, be honest. And respectful. Yeah. I mean, honestly, if done constructively, makes us work harder. I mean, we are not by any means satisfied with what we're doing. We're still striving to be better. I mean, we're motivated each and every week to do something that that makes us be a little bit better than the prior week. You get more creative and motivated. Right. But please give us a review somewhere so that I'm assuming that at that point, these reviews propagate in iTunes and Facebook and people can start searching the podcast based on reviews because we literally don't have any. And shout out to like Miss Pin, her podcast I started listening to recently over the last few weeks on suggestions by some other colleagues in the pinball community. And that's actually a really fun podcast and she's got a nice little following and I know she had reviews and stuff. That was really, really super cool. So shout out a womp to Miss Pin. Which I'm kind of, you know, a little pissed off I have not made it in life. Why is that? Because I don't have no freaking pinmobile. No. You have a pinmobile? We're all trying, but no, shout out to Ms. Pin. Yeah, back to Expo. Back to Expo. Sorry, you probably should have brought that up at a different point, because I would have loved to have carried on on that. Any review to our Facebook page or iTunes is appreciated. That earns you an entry into the contest. Well, what do I win? What difference does it make? I think I've got like two minutes left. Yeah, we've got to spill the beans now. To figure this out. Right. We had thought about making the ultimate contest by combining all these generously given pieces of merchandise from the mod community, the pinball manufacturers, pinball contributors, and making it one huge sweepstakes for Expo. But Expo is not about one individual. It's about those that support pinball. It's about those that have been there during good times and bad, through sickness and through health. Right? So we need to spread the wealth. So what we're going to do right now is we cue the music. We're going to go ahead, we're going to give a shout out to all the pinball manufacturers, mod makers, those that are involved in pinball that donated beautiful, beautiful, beautiful items to our contest. Yeah. All right. Which we were blown away by, but let's go. Right. So let's do this. And we're going to split these up into contest categories or group contests. So let's just see how this goes. So I think the first thing is this. Scott Danesi. We love Scott. Oh yeah. Maker, creator of TNA and now on his second pin. He is going to donate a TNA cassette tape, which is the actual soundtrack to TNA. So that's awesome. Scott, thank you so much. We can't wait for pin number two, but quite frankly, we're still having fun with pin number one. Yep. Number two, Pinball Life in Huntley. Gary and Margaret and the gang and the staff up there. Beautiful. You ready? Yeah, they're donating Novus 1, 2, and 3 kit. Yep. The pin golf. The pin golf premium. Pin golf premium. Yes. Which is honestly that's an accessory everyone kind of needs to have on their game. If you don't have a pin golf on your game. Just go there, order online and get a mall shift. And a t-shirt. A TNA t-shirt. TNA t-shirt. Right. So that's prize number two. You got the Novus 1, 2, 3. The Pin Gault Premium and the TNA shirt. And I think that's going to be one combo pack right there, right? Or how are we splitting that up? Should we do that? I mean, does it make sense to do like the TNA cassette tape with the TNA shirt? I think so. And the Novus kit and the Pin Gault Premium and the Novus 123. Well you're thinking about it wrong. You could put your TNA soundtrack on while you're wearing the shirt while playing in your game. Yeah. Let's do that. Let's, let's, let's. Number one is the Scott Danesi TNA cassette with the Pinball Life donated TNA shirt, the Novus123 kit, and the PinGulp Premium. That's going to be prize pack number one. Prize pack number two comes out of Jersey Jack Pinball, very generously donated by Eric Minier, and he's going to donate two, that's right, two Pirates of the Caribbean t-shirts. Now for those of you that are still waiting for your Pirates, Zach Meny, you will be able We're going to be talking about the Pirates of the Caribbean T-Shirt. It's a front-back type of graphic and you can sport the Pirates of the Caribbean on your body, bro. It's pretty huge, right? Awesome. Now, when you want to split up, that would be two, right? Yeah, so that's two. That's prize pack number two. Prize pack number three? It's two and three. Two T-shirts. You don't want to send two T-shirts, two of the same T-shirts. Right, so we're going to split that up. So, we're so packed two and three two separate people will get t-shirts we'll get one t-shirt right so that's price pack uh you know right as you said two and three uh price pack number four comes from spooky pinball in wisconsin charlie kt and staff thank you so much now this is the mystery swag bag now the cool thing with spooky pinball not only are they spooky but they're mysterious and right now you're gonna receive it could be A new and box Alice Cooper Nightmare Castle? If it fit in a bag. You never know. Their bag's big enough for anything. We don't know what it's going to be. That sort of thing's not my bag, baby. Right. Right. Right. But that's going to be price pack number four. That is a Spooky Pinball Mystery Swag Bag I love that because we don even know what it is You know I think that the mystery and the allure of that deal right there And you know what I wouldn be surprised if Charlie like you know what Just give me the address and I will ship it direct because it got to be a mystery to you too Because if it something really cool would we be tempted to keep it I mean if it was an Alice Cooper Nightmare Castle Well yeah we going to get our picture in front of the banner too You know I think it a little tacky for us to review ourselves though Exactly Exactly All right So we got prize pack number five This was Super, super, super cool. Rob and Kim at LearnMods.com. For those of you who don't know, LearnMods.com, they light you up with their mods. You've got perfect accentuations to your playfield lighting and your pinball lighting, whether it be backglass or playfield. Go to LearnMods.com, check out the website, because you know what happens if you win, Bill? You know what you get? I'm curious to know. A $100 gift certificate to LearnMods.com. Nice. And their stuff is pretty awesome. It's quality and it's affordable, so you can actually snatch up a couple mods, maybe three mods or four mods for your pinball machine depending on what you have. I think that's super, super, super cool. We have their product on our Baywatch. Yeah, I've got many of their products. I've had products of theirs on my Twilight Zone. I've had stuff on Attack from Mars. There's usually a learmods.com mod on a machine when I get it if they have one available. If you get a chance, go on the website, look at everything they have available. If you have a machine, chances are they've got a mod for you. Oh yeah. So it's cool. And they're tasteful mods. All right. So what was that? Was that prize pack number five? That was prize pack five. Prize pack number six, seven, and eight comes from the powerhouse of the pinball industry out of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, Stern Pinball. We want to thank Stern Pinball, specifically Zach Sharp, for helping us out with these three prize packs. And this is pretty interesting, Bill. If you want to kind of walk the viewers through this, or the viewers, like we're on TV, or will we be at one point? No, but if you want to walk the listeners through this, because you're going to get a double pack. You're going to get a t-shirt and a trans light. Yes. One is a Batman 66. So winner number one gets a Batman 66 trans light and t-shirt. A Deadpool trans light and t-shirt. Deadpool trans light and t-shirt. And an Iron Maiden. Translighting T-shirts. Translighting T-shirts. So the T-shirts are the Stern Company T-shirts. Yeah. But they will be shipped together with the Translights. Which is pretty cool. I mean, you know, honestly that stuff is awesome for wall art. You know, I mean, that stuff just looks cool. Yeah, if you don't have, well, right, exactly. You know what, and a Translight is something really, really cool to take to a pinball show and have signed and collect signatures on it for wall art or for your own personal machine. It's something that's, you know, you might even be able to reach out to somebody at Stern, You can go to www.GlobalWin.com and download the pinball survey and purchase the pinball at www.GlobalWin.com. We'll see you next time. Thanks for watching. We'll see you next time. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Yeah, well, so far, so far, because the last, if I'm not mistaken, prize. Yeah, it's super impressive. Could be the big daddy, because for anybody that owns any pinball machine, this is something that potentially changes how that machine looks, how it's presented, and how you're able to Play on that machine. And this mod, it's a mod, is controversial because some consider it to be so good that it's become too good. And this comes from Scott at Pinn Stadium. Which was awesome because he reached out to us when he heard that we were doing this and offered this to us. So, you know, once again, hats off to Scott for, you know, doing this. But I'll let you continue with what it is. Absolutely. So Scott has generously offered a full pin stadium kit, complete with UV upgrade. And I mean, that's a huge value. If you get a chance to go to pinstadium.com, you can kind of look at the products that they have there. For those of you that don't know what pin stadium is, I encourage you to look at the YouTube videos, go to the website, see what it's all about. If you own a pinball machine, you certainly have to consider the pin stadium upgrade. It's something that's very easy to install, very easy to remove if you wanted to at a later time. But more importantly, and I'll say this, like I stand behind products and I really like to stand behind people. And I think I've said this before on this podcast, Scott is absolutely a stand up individual. I'm somebody that, of anything that I've ever had questions about for any product, this guy was contacting me back on a question I had about Penn Stadium. Within 10 minutes, 3 minutes later, he's got me on the phone and, you know, I created like a personal relationship with this guy like off of a question I had about his product. Yep. And this was like a year ago. Yeah, but wasn't it like on a Friday night or a Saturday night or something crazy too? Right, and I was like, you know what, you throw an email out there, you hope to get somebody to return an email in a few days. Monday by 10 o'clock. For sure. I mean, he's just on it. Scott, thank you so very much. That was so nice of you to donate that for our expo extravaganza, so to speak. And I know that anybody that gets the product, that wins this product, is going to be excited about it. So that's what we have right now for prize pack. So, honestly Scott, thank you very much for the pin stadiums. Zach Sharp, Stern, thank you guys. Awesome, thank you for that. You know what, and it means a lot to us that, I mean these guys are right next to us and for them to support the podcast and to support Expo, it's so huge. So, humbly, thank you very, very, very much. Then we have Rob and Kim at LearnMods.com. Now, I had the opportunity to really get to know Rob a little bit last year at the Pinball Thanks again for watching. And remember, it's time to maybe just throw the buzzag in on next episode! Thanks for watching! And be sure to subscribe for more Do You Know What I Am because don't be afraid to put your tits up the right side any time someone constantly asks you about voitine! www.learmods.com We are now in the Mecca of the Midwest. So it's really, really cool to have Charlie, because he's got his own podcast too, the Spooky Pinball Podcast. I think his son Bug is now like kind of hosting it for the majority. But I have an opportunity on a few occasions to kind of really sit down with Charlie. And whether it be at a TNA stream with Jack Danger or at Pinball Life, just a nice guy, you know, and he's living the American pinball dream. We're a family of people who are doing things that only some of us wish that they could do. For them to take the time to help support what we're doing is so appreciated. We thank them so, so very much. Thank you. Thank you. Next on the list is Jersey Jack. Jersey Jack! Have you met Jack before? I have not. Actually, I would like to. I hope to actually meet Jack. That's on my pinball expo 2018 bucket list. I want to meet Jack. I've never met him before. I hear he's just great. I've got a great, you know, polarizing personality. Never ever, ever met him. But you know who I have met over there? Eric. Eric Minier. He's my guy. We have to thank for the t-shirts. Yeah, thank you so very much, Eric. And he actually, he says he's gonna take down my grand champ score of Earthshaker that I put up over at the Pinball Life Expo party. So if anybody's there that takes down my high score, I think it was 23 million, post that picture to the Facebook page Wink, creed, nerd shit. Turn out the mouth so takes no key, And actually, I've met Keith Elwin once, and it was over lunch like a year and a half ago or so when he first came to Stern. I don't even know if he remembers it. It took me a minute to remember that I had met him at one point. So it would be fun to kind of hang out and talk to Keith a little bit. So yeah, I mean, we'll see. Who else did you mention? It was Keith and who? Oh, Zach Sharp. Oh yeah, okay, so Zach. Yeah. Met Zach, yeah. Myself and Zach need to have a beer. Yeah. The three of us need to have a beer. Or two. Or two. We'll see what happens. So many great people in this hobby. So many great people. Speaking of great people that are in the hobby, and they're not a pinball manufacturer, but the next best thing, it's Terry and Margaret DesWart at Pinball Life. So guys, very, very cool man hooking us up with the Novus. Keeping the pinballs alive with the parts. TNA shirt, the Pinball Premium. And yeah, I mean these are the people that are rocking it out hard, keeping those machines alive. We're part suppliers. Pinball Life is right on top of my head. If you get a chance, pinballlife.com. Go into the search engine and type in your machine. If you're looking for something, it just brings up a list of parts. Whenever I get a new machine, and it's funny, I go to pinballlife.com, I type in my machine in the search, and I just see what's available because a lot of times there's like little add-ons or little replacements that I didn't even know existed, and I'm like, oh, I can get those at Pinball Life. And we're lucky enough to be close enough to kind of drive up there and pick those up. But quality, quality people. The whole staff up there. Shout out to our buddy Mike Fox too. Yep. I mean, he's my guy. He's our guy. Oh yeah, Mike's awesome. Yeah. Mike, Jose, everybody there, just good times. And somebody else that works at Pinball Life. Oh! Scott Danesi. The creature from the back, the back lagoon? The back lagoon? I like that. We're going to have to get him a sign that says creature from the back office. The mad scientist at Pinball Life, Scott Danesi. So I mean, this guy's hard at work doing so many different things and to be able to take We're proud to be able to offer it. Scott, thank you so much. He was just recently on the show with an interview. It was really, really fun. I mean, he's a personal friend of ours, so it was fun to be able to kind of sit down and talk pinball with him. Great taste in Mexican food as well. Yes, according to you guys. Yeah. So, yeah, in all honesty, this is where I'd like to say thank you very much to all the I'm here with the manufacturer, suppliers, and people in pinball that have helped us with this contest. You know, once we started getting the feedback of how far this is, you know, kind of gone with all these items, I was blown away. It was so cool to have people like, hey, I'd like to offer this for this. I would have, I'd like to offer this for, I mean, completely unexpected. I thought I was going to have to really hustle to kind of get this figured out. And you know what? Very minimal hustling and all kind of just fell into place. And to your point Bill, sincerely, thank you so much guys. It means a real lot and if there's anything that we can do to return a favor, we're happy to do so. Please ask. And once again, I don't know if we stress this enough, but thank you to all the listeners that come back every week and listen to all these podcasts. I feel like we're running a telethon. No, you know what I mean? Yeah, kind of like, you know. See, we've got 30 seconds left trying to get to that $30 million level. And for those that don't have an opportunity to go ahead and see us, come on in to 1-800-SPECIAL-1-LIT. If you can just... a dollar a day gets you some pinball prizes. Yeah, well, I haven't seen a dollar yet before doing this, but that's fine. No, no, no. But, you know, that being said... You've not seen a dollar? I haven't seen a dollar either. I've seen some dollars go out. Yeah, yeah, we should have seen a few of those. To keep it going. Is this where we start, like, our donation page? Yeah, you know... No, we're... We're here. Cue up the, what's that, what's the song from the dog shelter, you know? Dog shelter? I thought you were going to go with like We Are the World or something. No, no, no, the dog shelter commercial, you know, where they play that sad- Oh, the Sarah McLachlan music? Yeah, cue up the Sarah McLachlan music. Oh my gosh, just throw me out of the window now. For a dollar a day, you can keep Ken and Bill doing podcasts. No, you know. This shit was a little cage, I was suffering. And that's not to, you know, talk about animals that are being abused. No, I'm not talking about the dogs. No, because if, if there's a special place in my heart is for animals. And before I had kids, like, I'd rather see humans being killed in movies than animals. But now it's like kids are killing me. But you know what? Let's not, let's not talk about that. We love animals. That wasn't a poke at animals. We love animals. We love women. We love beer. We love pinball. What else are we missing out on? Good people. We love good people. Yeah. And if you're a good person, come find us at Expo. Shake our hands. I'm telling you. Let's hang out. Yeah. Let's have a beer. You know what? We, this is our last podcast until Expo. We've got the Pinball Pale Ale Keg in the Special Winlay Pinball Podcast room on Friday night. We'll be there Thursday for some seminars. Looking forward to a deeproot. I'm looking forward to meeting Robert Mueller. We both are. Yep. Looking forward to the Oktoberfest reveal. Unfortunately we're not going to be there or I won't be there Saturday. I don't know if you'll be there Saturday or not. So we've got a really time crunch on Thursday and Friday. So much to do and so little time. Right. So I don't know what we're going to be wearing. You know what? Take your picture in front of that banner, upload it to the Facebook page. If you're at Expo, message us on Facebook and we'll let you know exactly where we're at. Let's grab a beer. I mean, keep the messenger going. You know, contact us directly. That'd be fun. I want to have a good time. I want to have a safe time. I want to thank everybody for listening, as we just said. You know, I think we're going to wrap this one up because demographically speaking or with our market research, It shows that our podcast should be under one hour for listenability purposes. And right now, prior to edit, we're just over an hour. So I think we need to get it... Trim this back a little. I think we need to trim it back. So we'll probably cut out the whole story about something or another, but we'll figure it out. No, all good. Anyways, you guys have a nice morning, good afternoon, good evening. And don't forget to take some time out of your day to play some pinball from Bill Webb. I'm Ken Cromwell. Two days prior to Expo, this is the special when lit. So long, everybody.

“This whole pinball podcast industry... we are privy to information. And some of it, a lot of it comes, I think, offhand and off the cuff. And yeah, would it be fun to be able to talk about all this stuff?”

Ken Cromwell @ ~mid-episode — Acknowledges tension between access to information and editorial responsibility; recognizes temptation to publish unconfirmed rumors

  • “All of these machines, for the most part, came out of here at one point. So to have a Hall of Fame here, I mean, it's the best of both worlds.”

Bill Webb @ ~late-episode — Endorses Chicago as logical location for Pinball Hall of Fame given city's manufacturing history; distinguishes from Las Vegas location
