All right. Personal pinball news, kids. So after all these months, all these months, I finally get Meteor back in the house, right? It's getting cold outside. I'm waiting on the powder coat. I get it back in. I put it together, almost all together. I think I missed the cable or two. Actually, I think it was the ground braid. Dave Brennan's just cringing right now. So I start up a game, and it started up. It started up. it you know shot a ball into the shooter lane and 95 of everything worked and then i was like oh the sound board so then i plug in the sound board and i get some static the sound board is the one board i didn't replace on there so i'm like okay whatever but then i turn it back on nothing just gi lights and i'm like fuck no game uh no it's just the gi lights it just lit up the displays didn't go on, the track mode didn't come on, and I'm like, what did I do? You know, so I checked the voltages on the rectifier board. Those are all fine. So I'm like, okay, you know, this thing has power in all the right places. That's what she said.

The coin door was hacked to shit when I got this thing, but it was working before, so that wasn't the issue because, you know, a lot of these coin doors are hacked to shit. But anyways, so I did a bunch of research, and before I called Dave, because Dave was going to be my next call, Dave, I want you to know that, I figured it out. There were some people online saying that, yeah, some bum sound boards in these early sterns, sometimes they do something weird with the MPU. Okay. So the sound board's basically bad. So I just, you know, so I bought a new sound board. Good for you. So I'm excited. Cool. Yeah. So anyways, when I unplugged the sound board, yeah, then it just fired up and everything was fine without sound, obviously. Nice. So, yeah. So I was excited about that. And then more exciting, more Spider-Man news. I'm getting good at that game. Fuck yeah, dude. Good job. I've gotten to Battle Royale, which is like the mini wizard mode, like three or four times already. Wow. Good for you, man. Yeah. I want to say that game is an easy shooter. It really is.

Jesse J, we're glad to have you. Jesse, welcome. So I've been doing that. The other thing that I did this week, which was awesome, was I was on the Galloping Ghost Twitch stream. And this weekend, they had, I think it was Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, if I'm not mistaken. If it was a few more days, I apologize. But Billy Mitchell was at the Gallop and Ghost trying to get a, not a, he wasn't trying to break the game, but he was trying to get a perfect game where you go through the whole game to get to the kill screen. You collect all the cherries.

I thought getting to level 256 was good. Yeah. He's like, nope, not good enough. So you have to get all of those, and obviously it's all got to be one life. You can't die.

    And here's the crazy thing. All right, so Billy Mitchell's just sitting there. I just tune in randomly like it was Saturday night. How long does that take, by the way, to get to level 256? Well, I'll give you an idea. So I stumbled onto the stream Saturday night around 10 o'clock, and I turn it on.

    I don't know what's happening. Billy Mitchell's not sitting at the Pac-Man machine. I see the time. It's been going on for eight hours now. Pac-Man is parked in just a corner of the blue parts, and the ghosts aren't getting him. The game is still going on. He went to go and take a piss. He parks Pac-Man. I know. I'm just like, I know if I sat there with Pac-Man, he would have been gobbled up fucking instantly. But because it's fucking Billy Mitchell and he knows the patterns, he knows exactly when to park, where to park. See, Parks Pac-Man, these fucking ghosts have no clue how to get him. He goes, takes a piss. He comes back. He starts talking about how, this is really funny, he was talking about how his hands were getting really sweaty and it was starting to slip on the joystick. He's like, it's like the number one issue. and then all of a sudden he's like i tried baby powder and my hands are so dry and as he then he starts to play again and i guess it's chaos when you get out of you know there's like a pattern if you fuck up the pattern it's called chaos because now you have to just you you gotta play like the rest of us idiots collect the dots and try not to die yeah because once your pattern is fucked. Your pattern's fucked. And then once you get everything on the board, then you can do your pattern again when the next level starts up. Make sense? Yeah, it does. So the whole time he's doing this,

The whole time he's just like, man, this baby powder's amazing. He's like, you just don't understand. And he plays, alright, that's level 500 or 200 or whatever. clear. Now the next one is this one. And then he goes through his little thing and he's doing the thing again. He keeps going back to the baby powder. He's like, I guess I got to tell you about the baby powder. He's like, I explain it. He's like keeping my hands dry. If I would have known about baby powder in the 80s, like you don't know how many hours I've played this fucking game. Mr. Sand. Sorry, Mr. Sand's in chat.

    All right. But he was like, I have played this game for thousands and thousands of hours. I never thought of it. You know, just now. Yeah, no, that is pretty cool. It was cracking me up. He just stopped talking about it. But, yeah, he played for another, I watched him play for an hour. He went through about, I don't know, 15, 20 more levels, 30 levels. He parked it a couple more times. He had another chaos. and then he died. He died. He ran into a ghost during one of the chaos and it was over. Remember that? And you know what I would have done? I would have put a fist through the fucking monitor. I just spent nine hours playing this game. But no, he was just like, oh, frick. And then he just continued to play like a normal chump and then he was like, I'm done. I was like, I'll see you guys tomorrow. I picture Billy Mitchell. Remember that opening scene in the Kingpin movie when he gets a strike and he does the splits? No. I picture Billy Mitchell doing that. Like, you know, there's some, like, you know, women crowding around, and then he, like, gets to the kill screen, and then he just spins and just does the splits. Yeah, no, just to get a direct feed for the- Mike Williams, Fuck It Friday is coming back. We just don't know when. Yeah. It's random. We're talking. We never know. We just had it for ten minutes. But the direct, yeah, the direct feeds from the screen, you know, but they didn't have the right cords, so they couldn't do it. But, you know, they did their best. You talk about nitpicking. I mean, I get it. They are the company, and they should have all that stuff. Well, I think they did. They did, but they had technical. No, I think this is the streamers, the flip tron. Oh, okay, got it. And they're on location. They weren't at Deep Root. they're at like some bar sure yeah so they had okay nobody had the right equipment apparently but anyway uh watched the watched a bit of it um you know and i thought fliptronic did a good job and they explained some of the stuff what i was most impressed was the pin bar was really cool i really liked the pin bar what specifically did you like about well the pin bar the way it's laid out you know i really like that you know you have your hands here you're you're flipping and then on the far right end of the touch screen on the pin bar, there is a little circle, like a half circle, and it says MagnaSave. So you can touch the pin bar for your MagnaSave. But it's all animated. It's telling you where to shoot. It's explaining the rules. And there's certain things that they can program in there. Oh, so it was telling you, like, hey, this is the best shot you should take. This is where you should be. Yeah, yeah. And plus it was very, you know, flashy and blingy and shit. So I was into it, man. Just a couple of nice things for Fliptronic. So Jesse J says, Fliptronic did their best with what they had on the very last minute. Exactly. The hate on their stream was unwarranted. Exactly. Good take. That was my point. Mike Williams says, Fliptronic did a phenomenal job. For a short notice, it was. Very good. They did a fantastic job. I'd love any of the haters to try to keep their chill under pressure like they did, especially when showing such a highly contentious game.

    And I thought the game looked good. It looked fun. Yeah. No, my criticisms of that game are still kind of the same, where it's like the theme is what the theme is. It's not terrible. It's just it's a theme that they chose and they're going with, which is fine. It's a fun theme. I mean, it's not. My criticism 100% lies in the fact that it's been five years and we don't have anything on the line. There's nothing on the line. And we said we weren't going to talk about them until something was on the line, but this is something tangible that we can actually look at. It was a production game. It wasn't the prototype anymore. So they showed us their pro version, right, and then the LE version.

People were talking about it, like, Drew thought it was the greatest thing ever, and I'm like, it's neat, and I see a lot of value in it. Don't misunderstand, but I'm just like, if I don't have it in any pinball game ever, I'll survive. Kaz, I have no interest in Raza. Hope they have some good license themes coming, some cool innovations. I'd agree. I don't know if, for me, license is the end-all, though, be-all, end-all. I figure, you know, as long as the game is fun to shoot and the artwork pops, I'd be into it, you know. Well, it used to not be the end all like in the 90s, you know, when they were making all these great games. But the problem is now they're going up against a lot of great themes. That's the issue, really. It's true, true. But I could see myself owning a non-licensed, oh, wait, I do own a non-licensed pen. To me, it's, artwork's a big deal and the shots and layout and the toys. That's all it is, baby. And Jackrabbit, you asked about pricing. Supposedly somebody hacked into, now this is unsubstantiated, somebody on Pinside posted this thing. Someone hacked into their server or something, and they posted this thing where they had, like, screenshots of the website. I don't know what it was. You'll have to look, find it on the Pinside forums. But 4999 was the number that was on there for, like, the basic version. Got it. And then they had the version with the light-up sides and everything else, and it was, I can't remember, $6,500, $6,900, something like that. Yep. But, yeah, but $4,999, if they really come out with that, that might change some people's minds. Oh, absolutely. Because now you're like, okay, it might not be a licensed theme, but it's a full-featured pinball machine for $5,000. Because the $4,999 price is good. Food truck, my first new in body. Cavalier. Starlight. Yeah, but it was very cool. Snack shop. It's very cool. Yeah. So I was like, you know, what a neat way, because you're right. Like, the hologram's cool, but that's way better. Yeah, but that's just kind of a cool thing. All right. So Creature from the Black Lagoon released in 1992. This was actually in the transition, the first game in the transition from Bailey to Williams. So Black Rose was just before this, and Black Rose was a Bailey game. We were 11, folks, just to give you a frame of reference. So either you'll feel young or old, but Ian and I were about 11 years old when this game came out. Yes. So weird. Good math, dude. um so yeah so 1992 one of williams's games um they sold a little over almost 8 000 units almost 8 000 units now what other game came out in 1992 that blew the doors off of all the fucking pinball hang on was that g2 adam's family oh that's right yeah i'm a family 20 000 units adam's family was It was released the same year as The Black Rose and as Creature and destroyed everything. And although Creature was very, very successful in that term, but it was cut short because of the success of Adam's family. There was that point where I think all Williams was doing was making Adam's family pinball machines. So some of these screens here are going to have Coin Taker on the bottom.     That's what the game was going to be. Williams, drive-in. Trudeau wanted to do a theme that started out as a drive-in movie theater game, and he loved the 3D glasses phenomena that happened in the late 50s, early 60s. Very cool.

    O'Connor and Trudeau at first wanted to make 3D glasses to go with the game so they could have a drive-through 3D glasses game. That would have been a cool thing, you know, and you could have 3D glasses. They even have it on some of the, you know, the plastics, you know, 3D glasses. Yeah, well, remember around that time, too, like 3D was popular. I mean, when we were growing up, those 3D glasses were big. Yeah, they came back. They came back in a big way. The only thing that was hard to do the hologram was the fact that incandescent bulbs in that small little box were too hot and they would actually start fires. so they had to use a lot of reflectors to illuminate the creature um and very little bulbs right before they were probably loading it up full of bulbs they're like you see it smells something weird yeah so so they go into it and they say fuck it let's just uh let's just do uh we'll do a lot of reflectors and it works out perfectly now if you actually jean trudeau even said if you take this game outside and with the sun when the sun hits it Like, the thing lights up like crazy, the hologram. Like, if you get a really, really bright light on it. Yeah, that's what everyone does with their machines. Yeah, I don't know. Check or don't. Questionable in general. All right, so, but the afterthought of the whole thing was, yeah, the creature from the Black Lagoon, you know. So the drive-thru movie theater got shot down, you know, with the 3D glasses. So the only way he could do it was, well, it's a creature pin. So he kind of threw Creature in first. Because Creature was one of the first three new movies. So Creature was the afterthought. Total afterthought. They didn't give a shit about Creature. I mean, they loved Creature. Yeah. And it married the two. Yeah. And if you played the game a lot, like I have, you know that that game has nothing to do with Creature. It has everything to do with the drive-in. You know, you move the car. Yeah, the popper, the snack shop. Yeah, the snack shop. It is. And then the music from the late 50s. That's crazy to me. that it's like, well, we can't do this and this, so yeah, let's just slap Creature on it. Fucking put Creature in there. That's got to be a cheap license, and boom. Oh, you're right. In that time, it was probably, yeah, dirt cheap. Yeah, because later on, they did Monster Bash. They were able to afford all the monsters. This one, they only had to buy one. Gary Stern's like, I got an idea. Yeah. Well, all right, so on to the post thing. So people complained about the flipper gap in Creature. Now, it's not as extreme as Ghostbusters. There is a flipper gap. Most people have never really experienced it, and most people think that because their creatures have a post in the middle. They thought that was a factory thing that came later. So they thought it came out of the factory with the flippers. So every game was made without this. And it was bitched. Yeah, they bitched about it. The operators bitched about it. So they thought maybe Williams threw in a post to put in it. Williams never did. John Trudeau never did. Nobody ever did. This is just a bunch of rogue operators that were like, people are getting mad. I got my drill.

So he didn't think anything over two balls was appropriate. Dave Brennan says, I bought several games where center posts were added when they were not in factory. Well, that's true. Yeah, I think a lot of people did that, especially in a certain era. They don't do it so much anymore. It's a thing. So in the back left, too, where the woman is being carried by the creature, there was a spot to put LED or put bulbs, two bulbs in particular. It's just that iconic, you know, it's just this good-looking woman standing there in a bowling alley. you know she's prominent on the front and then they add the scene it's just a very cool I've always wanted one of those machines and for me to want a machine because of the art is very rare the game looks cool too but just to have it it's very cool so that's just an iconic piece of pinball art and pinball history so Strikes and Spares that's my number five Strikes and Spares is a classic good job man Yeah, I dig it. So my number five, I went the opposite. Okay. I went Sword of Rage for number five. Oh, it's a good art idea. For being in the industry as long as he has, Sword of Rage is one of the highlights of art last year. I really, really liked it. I appreciated kind of the old school take of the Black Knight. I thought he did a really good job. It's a little bit of rock and roll. It's a little bit of 80s and 90s, and it's perfect for a Steve Ritchie game, and I think he captured that spirit greatly, and I really liked how that game kind of came together. Now, would I like more, to shoot more into that game? Fuck yeah, I wish there was more in that game. But the art package I thought was done really well. No, it is a very good art package. I think it's a solid number five. Yep, and like I said, I'll just say my honorable mentions now, And, yeah, like, you know, Spider-Man, yeah, Sword of Rage, Simpsons. Yeah, this guy did so many great things in the pick-up line. There was. My honorables, they didn't make my main list, but my honorables, Congo. Congo was good, too. Dirty Harry. I thought about both of them. Dirty Harry had, like, a Miami Vice feel to it. I really liked Dirty Harry. Here's the thing. So, yeah. Secret Service. If he didn't do such other great art packages, those would have been in there. Mystic. Did you see the Mystic? I did see Mystic. I almost chose that one, actually. This dick was cool. Very cool. Magic stuff, man. So my number four kind of encompasses pinball hobby, Silver Ball Mania. You know, it's just this really cool, like, you know, the guy and the ball, and it's just, you know, that's pinball, right? Silver Ball. Pinball, baby. So, once again, I think that was like 1980. You know, that's super cool. Yeah, very cool. So, yeah. My number four, Judge Dredd. That one's good. You know, from top to bottom, you know, excuse the Stallone movie. Back then, that's kind of how we grew up with Judge Dredd, is that fucking terrible Stallone movie. But if you stood in front of that game, he ignored everything that Stallone movie showed. And it's like a gritty cartoon. And there is the gritty comic book edition of Judge Dredd. That is the edition that Stern would pay you extra to have on their machine. Yeah. And that's their comic book edition of Judge Dredd. No, it's awesome. And even the outside of the cabinet, just the blue that kind of brings you in there and the overall just aggressiveness of Judge Dredd on that motorcycle on the very front by the flippers, it's pretty badass, dude. My number three is and will forever be Monster Bash. Monster Bash has such a great, iconic look to it. Each monster has their own little area, and there's little details that if you're a Monster Bash fan, or a Monster, Universal Monster fan. Even if you're not, like me, it's still a great package. I mean, and, you know, CGC didn't have to touch a thing. They just had to add a little bit more lights to illuminate that art package. Isn't that funny? Yeah, they're like, this thing's great. They don't have to touch a thing. It's perfect. You know, he did a great job with it. Love Monster Bash to death. I thought it was probably the best-looking game I've ever owned easily. Easily. I don't think there was even a close second on that one.
