And I would put on a USB headset and talk about pinball. And Kaneda's Pinball Podcast would talk about topics that nobody else would address. We would be a little bit too strident. We'd be going after people with personal attacks left and right. We warned everybody to get their money out of highway pinball. It was good times. There was maybe five or six pinball podcasts. I made the decision yesterday to sort of wean The Painkillers get a bowel movement which I was more excited to have a bowel movement than I was to see the final wizard mode in Pirates of the Caribbean and now I felt better because of all of that But I will say being off of the painkillers for 24 hours now I'm starting to feel a sort of discomfort all day long, but I'm gonna power through it It's 3 in the morning and I want to do a pinball podcast because it's March and it's a new month and you know me I never want to stop giving you content about pinball. So here's what I want to talk about on this episode. We're going to go around the horn, talk about some news items. I've done what? 1050 something pinball podcast. I'm joking, a lot of you out there are not alcoholics, a lot of you out there are not multimillionaires, and a lot of you out there just love pinball. And I have to say, after watching everything going on in the world, I'm not going to get political, I'm just going to say this, I'm happy we have pinball. Because the world always feels like lately everything is just being lit on fire and there's so much drama and tension everywhere you look. Everyday you wake up there's new headlines about how the sky is falling. It's nice that we can just land on pinball which feels like somewhat of a solid foundation for friendship, for community, for getting together to talk about stuff. Alright so Kaneda what's going on in the pinball world as you sit in pain with your hernia recovery? Let's talk first and foremost about Pulp Fiction LE. So I'm in the thread and I see people are talking about getting their games and everyone who's setting this game up. It is a beautiful game. The topper looks fine, but there's one issue that a lot of owners are dealing with and I think anyone who's about to get their Pulp Fiction, you should check on this when you get your game. Apparently, there's an issue with the lockdown bar. Now, they supposedly are using Bally Williams lockdown bars and Quarter Displus A The one concerning thing I hope doesn't become an issue is people were emailing Chicago Gamingcompany about the issue and they were not hearing back from the company. And I just believe, and you know how I feel about this, if you're a pinball company, you don't have that many customers, right? You're not Verizon, you're notMicrosoft, you got like what, a thousand LD owners. And how many emails are you getting a day from customers that are having issues? at most six summer warm right not that many so i don't think any customer emails should ever go alliance or for a few days and i'm hearing that in the thread and obviously this doesn't seem like in easy fix i don't know if it's gonna happen for people in the media out there you get it game with no issues and you won't have to be taking the classiner out and using that lockdown automated gaming being often but i will say there's nothing more in norine A lot down bar that won't class properly because it's just like that thing where you're like jamming metal against glass and it won't close and it's so like I don't want to be here. I don't want to be doing this right now and I don't want to be adding more force or more pressure to this like latch as I can't get the lockdown bar closed. I know this because Guns and Roses suffers from a really crappy lockdown bar and every time I take it off, I'm like, oh, here we go again. Some days it works, some days it doesn't and it's not fun. Now speaking of Guns N' Roses, the art of pinball has finally released. It's been out for like a little over a month or a few months now, the Guns N' Roses topper from Lior. This thing was much rumored years ago. Remember, this thing was supposed to be like the creme de la creme. When Jersey Jack was releasing like the $250 flat plastic topper, Lior was going to save the day with his Guns N' Roses topper. cartoningbook, wszystkimargée, This week in Pennate Text Our top Wareentlich題 buffalo9 And then that has fallen through There was that period where there was all these rumors of is Lior alive or dead And it was scary because the stuff was going on in Israel and the Gaza Strip and nobody really knew And people were getting these cryptic Facebook messages And I would ask Barry because he working on the sculpts for Alice and he working on the sculpts for Back to the Future And they were like no he fine But he never really came out and said much like he had so many opportunities to just let everybody know What happening with him He never did Now we finally get this topper after all these years and it quite clear what happened with this topper This guy totally got hit with a cease and desist letter from Jersey Jack Pinball. Even look at the way they're marketing this topper. They've had to blur out the Guns N' Roses banner and the Guns N' Roses logo from the translite by which this topper sits on top of I will say this topper to me looking at it now after all these years and and so many toppers selling for so much money I don't really think it works or adds much to the game it is cool it is unique but it also feels very neutered and let me explain they clearly are not allowed to use anything that is IP of Guns and Roses so the way the topper is now it's got the axle skull The keepaque megap视card blenderisma What you don't see on that skeleton is the iconic hair and top hat of Slash. So they clearly couldn't make that skeleton look like Slash. And in a game that prides itself on having access to all the GNRIP you want, I just would not spend $2600 on this topper for that reason. I also just think gang, the world of aftermarket super expensive toppers in my honest opinion is dead. The topper craze for those aftermarket ones is dead. It's like kind of a car spoiler. If you're gonna put a spoiler, you know like the wing on the back of your car, if you're gonna put one on it, you always wanna put one on it that was made by the manufacturer. I don't care if the manufacturer topper is good or not. I just don't like seeing these aftermarket toppers on games. I understand getting them if the OEM manufacturer never made a topper, but I would never ever ever The Toppers that didn't come from the factory see I don't have a problem with like elite top or making in Indiana Jones topper because they never made a topper for Indiana Jones back in the 90s But I wouldn't put like something on top of Pirates of the Caribbean or Batman or any of these newer games I don't like the prices of Stern toppers But if I'm gonna own a jaws or a foo fighters or a Deadpool I of course am gonna wanna put the manufacturer topper on the game and all collectors feel that way. We got that Lior toppers out in the GNR world. Stern D&Ds are arriving to customers right now. It seems like there was a little bit of a pause in D&D being on the line. I think Stern hit pause on the assembly line to put the new motor mech into the dragon. Also probably to figure out the solve for it because when you look at the unboxings of this game, It seems like a couple hundred LEs went out and then a lot of people are waiting. Some people are being told this week, we know Stern can make anywhere from four to 800 games a week and they probably could have banged out half of the LEs of D&D in a week. But it didn't feel like that. It didn't feel like we got all of the LEs out the door at once. It definitely felt like there was a pause. Now like no one's going to be unhappy that Stern hit pause on the line The game is a good game to fix an issue. I am happy to see those games going out. I continue to hear nothing but good things about D&D. I think it is a really solid game for Stern. I don't think it is going to sell as well as people think simply because of what is coming and people are going to wait. When you hear what I am going to say at the end of this show, it is going to make you want to wait even more. Again, I think there is no reason to buy a D&D LE. I think there are going to be $10,000 games in just a few months. Beryls of Fun, so this company, you know, their game is probably next. We talk a lot about Kong and Potter, but Beryls of Fun is the company that is going to have the next launch in the pinball world and they know they need to get out in front of Harry Potter and King Kong and if they don't do that, they're going to be kind of screwed. I do believe that. So they had a factory tour during the weekend of the Twippies and they had pinball media and other people go through there and sign an NDA. And apparently they did show stuff. They showed some mechanisms for a future title to those individuals. And I heard from people there that the mechanism does give away what the theme is. Only problem is nobody's talking right now. It's gonna come out. But right now everyone is holding true to the NDA. And you know honestly I don't care to bribe people to try to get this information. It'll leak when it leaks. It'll probably end up on Knapp's Arcade before you hear it here. But what was funny about the factory tour is Barrels of Fun was putting Goonies keys all over the place. I think there was two Goonies skeleton keys that they just put out in the open. And some people are speculating that means they have the Goonies. I think it's the opposite. I think it is a misdirect that they don't have the Goonies. Here's the funny part. It really could go either way because I think we're so used to now manufacturers doing this where They give away a theme like this in such an apparent way that you come to the conclusion that they're not making it. So maybe the best way to deceive people nowadays is to actually come clean and have the IP all over your factory and everyone's going to be like, there's no way they're doing it because it's out in the open. It'd be like if people over at Stern Pinball, spoiler alert, start wearing Pokemon T-shirts, you're going to be like, they're not making Pokemon. They would never reveal to the world like this. And look, guessing is fun. None of this information is that important. None of it is worth the secrecy that it gets. None of these NDAs could ever hold up anywhere in a court of law. Think about it. Like if you reveal to the world and broke NDA on the next barrels of fun game or game number three, what could they actually sue you for? Right? You'd have to like imply some sort of damages were incurred. And I know they like to have all the rumors swirling, but it's not always good for business. Look at what happened to Elton John. It's like when the rumors were it was Elton John, everyone's like it's not going to be Elton John or more importantly, everybody was wishing it wasn't Elton John. But if Jersey Jack just let everybody know, look, it's going to be Elton John. It's going to be the best shooting game we've ever made. Then all of a sudden you flip the narrative. Get everybody thinking about how awesome it going to be to have the best shooting game you ever made and get the attention away from a theme that people might not be hot about So let go on to the next thing I notice I was in the Stern X thread and just real quick I seeing a phrase that you never want to see in your pinball club thread And that phrase is the following. I don't understand all the hate this game gets. Once you hear that phrase in your club thread, you know you've got a game that isn't in a good place. And whenever you hear it, I want to give you an analogy. Do you guys ever have a friend of yours? He starts dating a girl and you don't think the girl is good for him. And the girl treats him like crap, but you know what? She's beautiful, right? She's kinda hot. The Crap he gets tired of all the crap he's putting up with and he breaks up with her and because you're his friend You're happy to hear about the breakup You're happy to hear that he's seeing everything that worried you about her But then here's what happens time goes on and he misses her right Nostalgia makes him feel a little bit lonely for that beauty and he gets back together with her and when they get back together Now the management of pinball nut a pen vainly for count of mistakes trademarked misinfo And that's what happens in pinball with games like this. And if you think about it, the people who are hating on X-Men, the reason they are hating on it is they heard from the owners how bad the game was abusing them. And that abuse came in the form of mechanical issues and code issues. So now these owners, who are feeling a little bit better about their beautiful girlfriend, Now they want all of us to respect their relationship with the game and they can't understand why so many people are hating on the game. Ladies and gentlemen, it's like a high school relationship. You turned us into the haters of X-Men. You, the owners, the people who were dating this game, they turned us against this game. Now they want us to turn back. I just think it's gone too far and I don't think people are going to change their mind on this game. But speaking about a game that a lot of people have changed their mind on, I'm just happy to report that George Gomez is James Bond. It's snuck up the pin side top 100. I know a lot of you are like that list is stupid. But look James Bond now sits at number 13 on the top 100 games of all time. I think as pinball fanatics, we should hope that people that love a theme in the end are happy with the pinball version of the IP they love. I really don't. A couple more things and then I'm going to give you sort of like the big things I've been hearing about what's coming down the line from Stern Pinball. So the first is Avatar. Let's see, CEs are going out the door. I'm curious how many CEs they make a week. Do you think they sold a thousand avatar CEs? I don't. Do you think they got orders for a thousand avatar CEs? I don't. I think they're gonna make probably around 500 of these. I think that's the same thing with Elton John. I don't think there's a thousand Elton John CEs out there. I would just be shocked. It's hard to tell with JJP because of how they number their games. The serial numbers on the CEs do not reflect the build order. So you could have game number WrestleMania Noted 잘한 가능 to Fallaxx Can hou Ар The If Avatar was a good seller, how come the owner's club is so small? The answer is staring us in the face. The game didn't sell that well. All attention is on Harry Potter. I'm now seeing people starting threads supporting Eric and we all support Eric Minier. I want Eric Minier's Harry Potter to be amazing. I don't want people to root against Harry Potter. I don't want people to root against Jersey Jack. I'm just looking at the date. It's March 4th and This game is supposed to be on the line mid-march was the latest I heard so that's next week The game is delayed. Every week that this game isn't on the line, Dutch Pinball is losing money. They've apparently made the last Lebowski. So we know they want to get this game on the line ASAP. It's gonna get on the line. The fear for owners right now is not a fear of whether or not you're gonna get your game. The real fear is, did I buy my game too early? Every week this game gets delayed you're going to see more and more spots go up for sale and they're not going for over MSRP. People are selling their spot at cost. Now what that means is the next stop because they're not selling right no one's gobbling these spots up. You see a $1500 deposit is what Alice was. People selling you a spot for $1500 and no bites. So what that means is 500 games is more supply than demand. The game is a game that is not good for a game whose initial intention was to be a highly sought after collectible work of art in the pinball world. I'm sorry but it's just too many games. No one feels like they missed out on Alice and that is in the phrase the fear of missing out and there is no fear of missing out. If there was one person on planet earth that feared they missed out on getting an alice, they would have bought one of those spots at cost and they have not. Again, next stop on this train is the prices are going to probably go down because the games are going to slowly trickle out and people with alice deposits are going to get impatient as Harry Potter comes out, as King Kong comes out. Dutch had a window. They had a window to get these games out the door when no one else The game was released in January, but the game was not shipped in February. And look, the more you do this to your customers, the more you mislead them on ship dates, the more their enthusiasm to get it is going to dissipate. And also, since Expo, remember Expo was in October, October, November, December, January, February, March people we are six months it really five months since expo but in that five month time period have you been getting consistent updates on the code what they been adding to the game No you haven been seeing anything You haven seen the game being streamed Nothing Nothing You have no idea if your game got twice as good or if it stayed exactly the same as you saw it at Expo Alright, so let's go on to a couple things I'm hearing in the rumor mill. And I think I might have been wrong. I don't know. I'm curious to see how this whole thing plays out. I will say that I heard back from Jason Knapp and we're going to do a friendly bet of a hundred bucks. We're going to donate the money to charity. Whoever loses will donate the money to charity. We're going to pick a charity and the whole rumor was around whether or not The Walking Dead would be out in the fall. Sometime in October is what I am hearing. There will be a new remastered game by Stern Pinball. I'm getting a little nervous now because October, Halloween, The WalkingPrincipal, TheWalkingDead, ItAllMakesSense, but there is another theme that also makes a lot of sense for Halloween and that is Ghostbusters. Now I do hear that the license holder for Ghostbusters is a lot more difficult to work with. It's a lot easier for Stern to bring The WalkingDead back than it would be Ghostbusters, but here's the big but Ghostbusters would sell three to four times more units than TheWalkingDead if they A walking dead remastered with zombie yeti on art. I'm just thinking about that makes me think about handing money over. I don't know right so that's gonna happen. So I think it's gonna be one of those two. You know I know a lot of people are wondering is it gonna be Tron. I just think we all need to come to terms with the fact that Stern is gonna remake like all of those hit DMD games eventually. I mean it. Eventually they will do it. Whether it's Lord of the Rings maybe not. Tron I think so. Kiss is gonna come back. The WalkingPrincipal, TheWalkingDead, Heck they'll probably even bring back ACDC. I just think it's a matter of when not if I think we're gonna see a remastered or two every year moving forward as Seth needs to keep that line going. Alright so here's what I'm hearing I'm hearing that John Borg is working on a really big IP I'm also hearing it's the biggest IP that Stern has had. Now I'm confused because if this is the biggest IP Stern has had, so the biggest Stern IP is Star Wars. I'm also hearing from people that Star Wars is the best selling Stern machine ever. I wouldn't argue that. I really wouldn't. But if you look at the number one properties in the world, Star Wars is number five. Number seven is Super Mario Brothers. I think they had a new Indianajones ready to go and it fell through because of licensing. And also gang, I do think that these designers do get paid per game sold. I do think they get a little bit of a royalty based on how successful their game is. Keith Elwin's doing very well financially because he makes the best damn games. You know, so maybe John Borg, who was sitting on a great payday with Indiana Jones, and it got shelved, maybe they made it up to him by giving him Pokemon. Because it almost doesn't even matter what you do with the Pokemon design, it's going to be one of your best selling games ever. And from what I'm hearing, this game is close, right? This huge IP, it's Out Wizard никак All the Marvel properties then it makes me really sad because I see Toy Story there, I see Barbie, I see Dragon Ball Z, I see Batman, Transformers is on this list. So that gets very interesting when you think about it. So are we gonna go Keith Elwin King Kong in May and then are we gonna get a John Borg Pokemon machine sometime this summer?
