TL;DR

RetroRalph installs custom Grid arcade topper from Galloping Ghost Reproductions

Summary

RetroRalph unboxes a custom-reproduced topper for his Grid arcade cabinet from Galloping Ghost Reproductions, a specialized business that creates reproduction arcade parts for preservation. The topper was missing from his original Grid cabinet and nearly impossible to source, so he worked with Jim at Galloping Ghost Reproductions over several months to have one custom-built. The video documents the installation process, testing the LED lighting system, and final assembly of the one-of-a-kind reproduction piece.

Hey guys, welcome back to the channel. In today's video, I'm super excited because we got a mystery box. Well, it's not really a mystery box, but it's a box from Galloping Ghost. And the reason why this is so cool is Galloping Ghost is one of the largest arcades in the world. And they have a separate business called Galloping Ghost Reproductions. Their whole sole purpose of being in existence is to create and reproduce arcade parts that may be no longer available so we can continue to preserve these awesome pieces from the past. So I contacted them, actually Jim over at Galloping Ghost Reproductions Shoutouts to Jim And I said, hey man, I have an arcade that's missing something, can you help me? And he's all, absolutely man, we can So we've been doing this project for the last couple of months And what's in the box is a reveal of that very project So let's go check it out Oh dude. Yes. This is the shit. Oh my god, this is so awesome. This is where it's at. It smells minty fresh. Oh my god, this is so cool. Okay, if you haven't figured it out by now, this is a topper, a custom-made topper by Galloping Ghost Reproductions for my grid cabinet. If you remember when I got my grid pickup it was missing the topper and that's pretty common with these unless you can find the three cabinets and the large topper and even those are hard to find but for some reason the individual toppers are almost non I don know if they used to fall off if they would break I not really sure but when he said he reproduce it for me I was super stoked So before we go into the garage and check this out I gonna give you a brief little short history of The Grid and then we head to the garage I got a chance to play The Grid last year at Galloping Ghost, and man, this game is awesome. It was developed by Midway and released in the year 2000. It was actually Midway's last arcade game. It's a third-person shooter which consists of a super violent television game show hosted by a smash TV like host Very reminiscent of the movie running man one of the coolest things about it though Is that local multiplayer is possible with up to six players by linking up multiple cabinets? Very innovative for its time, okay guys, so we're outside in the garage And I just put the grid topper just I placed it on top so what we have to do first really quick is is we've got to validate the power. So I need to get about 110, 120 out of this plug right here. The problem is this plug would have been the proprietary plug that would have been to the grid topper, like the stock one. So because they put just a standard LED light bar in there, not the actual fixture, it's got some wires coming out and I got to give this about 110, 120. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to take my volt meter out. We're going to test that. and then I'm just going to place it on there, turn it on, make sure I have the proper power, and then we can kind of just lay it all out and get the install complete, and that's it. Honestly, it's just super cool, man. I'm super excited about this. I gotta say, like, Galloping Ghost Reproductions, there's a huge deal that they'd take on a project like this, because you can find these things like I said before So let me turn on the arcade machines I test the voltage and then we kind of clean it up a little bit Okay all the machines are coming up right now I just powered them all on We got our voltmeter Voltmeter's good. It's on right there. I'm gonna try to do this and show the camera. So what I'm doing is just sticking the two leads. I'm pretty sure it's the white and the black that will give us our 110, 120 that we need. So let's get that in there and then hopefully I can do this and hold, hold this and show you guys okay so I've got about 115 so you guys can see that 115 so that's good so I should be good to go with that so what I'm going to do is I'm going to power the machine back down real quick just connect the wires inside those leads not really recommended but for the purposes of this it's fine just to show you that it's working and then we'll clean everything up okay I'm back I attached the wires I'm going to power on the machine real quick and we should see this guy fire up. Oh yeah, that looks really good, man. Oh my gosh, I love it. So one of the unique things that they put on here, I don't know if you noticed this, I'll get the camera close up because the lighting might be weird, but I asked them, would you guys put something on there that would identify that Galloping Ghost did the work? And Jim over there asked Doc Mac, and Doc's like, Yeah, of course. So it's really cool. So this is kind of like a one-of-a-kind piece because they've never done one of these before, a reproduction one, at least not to my knowledge. And so it has custom construction by Gallop and Ghost Arcade. So if for some reason in the future I get rid of it or whatever, you know, this will be kind of a unique piece. It like a one So kind of cool But anyways I take some B shots of the grid marquee It looks awesome They did a really good job on it What we have to do now is just I attach the sides I kind of get the power more permanently situated and then then we done I just do a couple shots of the finished product. Installing the sides would have been easier with some help, but basically you remove the black trim screws and place the acrylic sides over the top and then screw it back down. That's essentially it. I can kind of see how these would have been damaged in the past. They really just sit on top of the cabinet. If the arcade operator didn't secure them down, I could totally see them falling off and breaking. Anyhow, now that everything's where it should be, here's a look at the finished product. I think it came out really nice, and I couldn't be happier with the result. Alright guys, that about wraps things up. I gotta give a special shout out and thank you to Galloping Ghost Reproductions. If you have any kind of custom artwork or something that's weird that you can't find on an arcade, definitely contact them. I'll have a link in the description below. below. The thing looks awesome. The grid is now complete. I couldn't be more happy. And you know, when you have one grid, you need two grids if you know what I mean. No, no, no, no, no. You guys are supposed to tell me no. I mean, if you had one, if you knew what one was, you know, give me a call. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I'm not actually kidding. Thank you everybody for watching. If you like this video, give me a thumbs up. Consider subscribing to the channel. Put your comments below. I want to hear from you. And also there was a shirt I was wearing earlier.
