Well class, this will be my last day as your teaching assistant. I just wanted to say a few words of goodbye to the young women here. This has been the most depressing experience of my career. I have never encountered a more sexist classroom. I pity you and I fear for your futures. That is why I am urging all of you young females to join the Sisters of the Highland Society for Women. We will be meeting at the community center to discuss our plans to picket Cineplex 5, which continues to debase womankind by promoting films featuring actresses with breast augmentation.

Hey, buddy, I think that chick up there wants us. Yeah, probably. Coming to you from beautiful upstate New York, this is the Slam Tilt Podcast, a show about all things pinball. I'm your host Ron Hallett, here with my co-host Bruce Nightingale.
1:08
Out of the money, Nightingale. You mean the Ron Roll? Yes, I switch roles. Switch roles, never be cashing. Never be cashing. Fail. Yes, total fail. Total fail. And welcome to episode 82, Ghidorah, the three-headed monster. Oh my! You ever see this one? Of course not. I recommend it. It's probably one of my favorite, if not my favorite, Godzilla villain opponent. It's a three-headed like dragon thing and it just looks...
1:39
And it looks cool. And it just screeches? Yeah, it does this cool screech thing and it's got these like lightning bolt laser things that come out of it. It kicks ass. I love Ghidorah. Oh my! King Ghidorah! So, we've talked about this one. We've talked about this one. My. Kingi Dora. So we promised somebody a guest last week. I think we promised everyone a guest last week. Mm hmm. And we have delivered. We don't disappoint. Nope. We have a champion among us. And it ain't us. It is almost Ron. It was almost Ron. Mr. Raymond Davidson. How are you doing today, sir? Hello. I'm good. Good evening. Welcome to the podcast. Win any tournaments lately?

Bruce Nightingale@ 34:16 — Self-deprecating humor about Slam Tilt's chances in the tournament, despite claiming undefeated record

  • “I didn't hold up my weight. No. So I fell over, because I'm too fat.”

Tim Kitzrow – Yes, actually, now that you mention it. Tim Kitzrow – The Nationals. Josh Pugh – Yes, he did. Josh Pugh – He took out 43 state people – or sorry, it was actually 41 state people and six provisionals or seven provisionals from Canada? Josh Pugh – Who knows how many state provisionals? Tim Kitzrow – So literally, you're saying he beat like over 40 people? Josh Pugh – Yes. Tim Kitzrow – Wow. Josh Pugh – It doesn't quite work like that. Tim Kitzrow – Yeah, I don't think so. Josh Pugh – But he did beat – he did beat Darth Ball. The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi.

    3:53
No, that probably won't work. That won't work at all. But, uh, congratulations on your win. Congratulations. You provided a lot of viewing for me while I was shopping out my cheetah. Yeah. It ended right around midnight. So it must have been like 3 a.m. over there. Yeah. It was a long day. Yes, it was. And you beat, you beat Carl in the finals? Yep. I just got an email from Karl giving me my number for the Texas tournament.
    4:23
Oh. Thank you, Karl. Even though it's probably an automated email, but thank you. What are your highlights of the tournament for you? Because you were only there for the Nationals because you didn't play in the Masters. Yeah, so I just flew in that morning and got on like a 6 a.m. flight, landed at like 8.30, and then went over there and started playing pinball. It was a little shaky at first. My only round where I lost twice versus the four ones was the first round. And, you know, just getting used to the games and figuring out how they play and stuff.
    4:58
First rounds are always so scary. But once you start, once you get past that, it's a lot easier. You know, you get comfortable, start doing your thing instead of just freaking out. Yeah, it was, what I liked about it was they had a Black Rose. That was my go-to. You own a Black Rose, right? Oh yeah, that's my game I've had the longest. I think it is a vastly underappreciated game, and if you took five minutes to learn the game like a little deeper, I think I could convince almost anyone that it's a fun game.
    5:31
I love the game. It's Zach's favorite DMD. Really? Yes, he just played it at his place. He's got it in his upstairs, in his bedroom. I usually don't agree with Zach's tastes in pins, but that one we've definitely aligned on. I don't think many people do. That's what I hear on the podcast. I don't think many people do. Raymond, Raymond, we were playing in a tournament this weekend. How do you think he picked his games? There was 22 games to be chosen. How do you think he picked his games?
    6:01
He picked them random.org. If you like our content, please subscribe, like, and hit the notification bell so you don't miss out on any of our upcoming videos.
    6:35
But he came back and, you know, took it with GoldenEye, was second, and then Getaway was third. Ooh, you got a GoldenEye there? Yup. Here's the funny thing, Bruce. When I was playing Black Rose at his house, I'm there like, you know, Raymond Davidson owns one of these. You know what his response was? Yeah, but he owns a Tron, too, so. Oh! What? Man! Wow! But he knows you own a Tron. I was impressed that he even knew that. Yeah. How did he? 8:03
Scorpenerix Xorgatoo, It's just, it's got a lot more than I think people realize, like what's in it. Like the multiball is actually pretty complicated. There's like a hidden treasure mode that most people don't know about. And there's like the two and three ball multiball. There's a jackpot that you can light by getting all the broadside awards. And there's actually seven canon awards, like seven levels of canon awards.
    8:35
The first one's double broadside, but then it's like video mode and then 5 million. And then my favorite is 2x sync ship letters. And you actually try to ricochet off as many targets as you can and it'll double and give you that many sync ship letters. Most people just shoot the cannon at the broadside, but you actually want to try to bounce off of as many jewels as you can, because each one gives you a sync ship letter. I agree. Thank you, Brian Eddy. Mm-hmm. You did an awesome job. You did. Well, he just did the rules, right?
    9:05
Yep, he did the software. Yeah. Yeah, he waited until he got to Attack from Mars and Medieval Madness before he did the Playfields. I'd say he did pretty good there, too. Owen Shadow. Yeah. All right, Bruce. It's time for a piece of news. Are you ready for a piece of news? I'm always ready for a piece. I guess the... Of news. I'm trying to think of what we should get into first. Let's go to one of the unfortunate announcements. Pinball Expo. What? You're not allowed to say that anymore.
    9:36
Is technically no more. Which is weird. You mean Texas Pinball Festival? No, I mean Pinball Expo in Chicago. There's really no more, I guess. Because Rob Burke has broken from Mike Pacek. Well, maybe I should explain this better for people who don't know Pinball Expo or the history of it. Pinball Expo was started in 1985 by Rob Burke and actually some other guy who I can't remember.
    10:08
Then after about maybe the second one, Mike Pesak came on and they both ran the show together for the next 30 years. Yep. 32 years. Yep. So it was announced this week that Rob is breaking off and is going to do his own show, which is going to be a month earlier in September. Mm-hmm. So, you're getting the, you know, the Mike supporters who are kind of sticking with Mike, and then you got the Rob supporters who are saying, you know, all the people who Mike pissed off will now go to the Rob show. I just don't see it as being good for anybody.
    10:48
No. I think they will both pretty much cancel each other out and it will fail miserably, unfortunately. I just, you can't have two shows like that, that close together in the same area. A
    11:30
Chattanooga, Yúa Magyar, River Ghoul == And the deal is, like, Mike has the hotel for this year and next year. So, whatever it's called is going to be a show, or if he cancels it, that's going to be a hefty price tag.
    12:00
Yeah, that's going to get worse. Is the problem they can't call it Pinball Expo because the other guy has the rights to the name? Yeah, I think it's more likely, yeah, Rob Burke probably has the rights to the name. I think so. I think he does, but, you know. And he basically told Paysack, like, you can't use that name. The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi.

The Wally Winka Show, Knapp Arcade, Bally Williams, Straight Down the Middle, Bally Williams,
    13:16
Why did you decide to go to Doo-Put? Alright, I'm sure if we're wrong, someone will correct us.
    13:48
No, never. We're too good for that. Well, I'm not. That's that. It's unfortunate. It doesn't sound like it can be repaired at this point. Especially once lawyers are involved, it just, no. It's kind of done. Yeah, it's never good. So my plans in the fall are kind of up in the air now, thanks to that. That's a shame. Yeah, this sucks. Yes, it does. Yeah, it sucks. Yeah. So, alright, let's try to get off of that, get to something a little more upbeat.
    14:21
Pinball 102 is out, Bruce! I know, and I just ordered it 10 minutes ago. Ooh. Remember when we had Keith Elwin on? We asked when Pinball 102 was coming out, and he pretty much said, it already is out, it's all on YouTube, but I guess they're taking those clips and adding some extra stuff and releasing it as Pinball 102. I spotted something interesting. Now on the cover art, it's a picture of a backglass. And what score does it show on the backglass, Bruce?
    14:53
Oh, 316. Mmm. So did we just get the scoop? Did we just get the scoop? He's into religion, he likes Stone Cold Steve Austin, or maybe it's a date. Ooh. A certain date would be Friday. Oh, that's like Texas Pinball. We're in the Texas Pinball Festival. Hmm. So, I mean, has Stern actually said anything was going to happen at any point? In the March State of the, Stern of the Union, they said that they were bringing code for Batman and for Guardians. But they never said that...
    15:32
Ooh, Guardians. I'm getting one of those. But they never said, you know, that it was going to happen that way. Hold on for two seconds. Hold on for two seconds. I'm going to get a call. Hold on. Yeah, actually, hold the phone. While he's taking the call, you're getting the Guardians? Is that for your Nationals win? Yep. The options were Guardians, Aerosmith, or WWLE. Oh, God. They still have the hosts. Oh, my God. How many? Has it been two years now? It had, yeah, Zach, when Zach told me about it, he said, strong preference on, on the WWLE.
    16:06
And I'm just like, ah, man, like, Guardians, I'm scared of, but I think I still take it over another Aerosmith or a WWLE. That's really not a choice. Get a game you already have, which I guess you could sell as new in box. Yeah, I mean, Eric Stone did that with his national wins last year with the Guardian, or the WWE LE. That's funny. Yeah, I was like, I guess I'm getting the Guardians. All right. Yep. Okay, I'm back. Uh, what?
    16:37
Hi, Bruce. Mm hmm. You wouldn't believe the stuff that came up while you were gone. Uh, porn, porn and more porn. Yep. Excellent. Yes. Ray was talking about his porn career before he got into pinball. Oh, my. Let's see. So that was, what were we talking about? So that- Pinball 1 and 2, how do I order it? The link doesn't, there's no link. It just says, order now. And then I just go to the link. Order now and there's nowhere to click. On top, on the first thing on pin side, the first link, there's a link, there's a hyperlink. Click on that. Oh, I just went to pinballvideo.com thinking...
    17:08
Nope, nope, go to pin side, just type in pinball 102 and it shows... It's weird, the cover is there on pinballvideo.com but the link doesn't actually work. Okay, so go to pin side. Yep. Oh man, pin side, okay, here we go. Be careful, you might get a virus. I'm John Popadiuk, and I'll see you next time.
    17:57
I'm just saying, they might not have anything there, but who's to say the flyer wouldn't come out? That's the way they used to do it. I'm just saying. Are you going to look into, oh, maybe the cards on the back that say 10 and 2, maybe that's just a 102, and I'm looking too much into that. Oh my. Oh, it's a DVD. It's not a Blu-ray? Boo. Yeah, it's DVD-R. The Big News is this weekend's Texas Pinball Festival!
    18:36
We are going to see the debut of Alice Cooper's Nightmare Castle! I will stand in line at least one or two times to play that before it gets too crowded. I could see that being pretty fun if they, you know, if they do it right and have some good shots and some good, you know, call outs that aren't repeated ad nauseum. Oh my. But it could, I mean, yeah, I'm curious, have they shown any pictures of what it looks like or no? Not yet, just little snippets. Little snippets. Okay.
    19:07
So hopefully it will kick ass, we will see. We also have Circus Maximus will be bringing Kingpin. The Capcom Kingpin? Yep. Yep Ooh I like that one Which I guess the idea is I wonder if they just showing it off or maybe taking orders I don know I wonder how much that how much that cost Oh, dear God, who knows? We'll find out. Who knows how much that'll cost. I remember Big Bang Bar, the first expo I went to, where I could have got in on a Big Bang Bar for $4,500.
    19:38
Oh, my. And I was like, Oh, my God, that's ridiculous. I can't afford that. How much were new in boxes back then? Maybe $3,800. I could give them everything.
    20:09
Bear With Me So, I think they just ran into delays, and they're not going to make it, unfortunately. I mean, it'll be out, but it's just not going to make it for the show, which kind of sucks. I'd like to see it, but what are you going to do? But to make up for that, Color DMD is going to have the new super DMD, the big one, the one that was in, like, Baywatch and Frankenstein.
    20:41
I just put in the black rose one. It looks great. Mmm, nice. So they're gonna have a color DMD for your your Baywatch. I think Baywatch is the game they're gonna have it in. Yes, yes it is. Pretty rare, right? Bruce, you know everything. How hard are they to get? Like the big ones? Right now, they're really hard. I think the last one I saw new was 550 bucks. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, that's why. It's like almost the whole value of the game on some of those. I know. What do you mean? Frankenstein is a great game.
    21:11
Maverick rules. I like Maverick. I know, that's why I said it. Batman sucks. Batman, well, you can't hit any of the ramps on it. The flippers are strong enough. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. It's like we designed this game so when the flippers are at full power, you can just make the shot. Yeah. Because the power will never decrease any. No. That's a fail. Yes, it is. A little tidbit, that's one thing I know at least Stern would test is how the mechs work at low power conditions.

Well, we'll get into the mail for that one. Well, was it during the mail? I mean, did he send a mail or did he just send it to you? He never talks to me. Of course, he likes me. He doesn't like you. He doesn't like me. Bummer. No, he made a comment the same as one of our email people did. Yes, I'm wrong. We'll just say it now. I'm wrong. Are we talking about Time Warp again? No. No, I was right about that. No, that's nice. I still haven't heard proof. I'm still under proof. Stop.
    24:03
Stop. Just listen to the damn thing. I am not listening to it. You've got to prove your case. You're a lawyer here now. You have to prove I was wrong. No. Yes. No. I'm not playing a clip from another podcast on our podcast. Without permission. That would be kind of uncool. Just get off your lazy ass and listen to it. It's right there. Send it to me. Send it to you. Just search for TopCast, Barry Osler episode. Why do I have to send it to you? Because I'm lazy. Wooo!
    24:48
Read the release notes. It's great. They should just have like a no multipliers option where it just, you, it like always moves the multiply, all the shots are always multiplied or none of the shots are ever multiplied. Well, speaking of software updates. 75 minutes. Yeah. I'm not listening to a fucking 75 minutes of a show. All right, if one of our listeners wants to, why don't you give Bruce the time code so he can get to that exact section where Barry Asler said they had 2,000 time warps with regular flippers, just to shut him up.
    25:28
Maybe lose my place now. What a dick. So, what was I talking about? Oh, speaking of new software, they're going to have a total nuclear annihilation at Texas that I believe will be debuting the co-op mode. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Did you hear about that at all? Also, it's like a two-player game, but you're shared reactors or something, I assume. Yep. That's how I took it. Like me and Bruce, you could team up and like I get the reactor too, so when you're up, Bruce, you're already at reactor two.
    26:01
That is such a brilliant idea. How has that never been thought of? Exactly. Who can, what team can blow up the most reactors? That's so great. Yup. Let's see. Pinball Expo is no more. We talked about that. This is all from This Week in Pinball. Hi, Jeff. They announced the games for the Stern Pro Circuit Finals. Ooh. Where was that? It was on a Pop-It TV live broadcast, but Pinball Narcissist, Evan Bingham, he summarized it and posted on Tilt Forums what the games are.
    26:36
And what are the games? Now this is going to be in Chicago, right? Yep. It's going to be huge! It's going to be a party! So what are the games? Uh, well, we get Aerosmith Pro, Star Wars Pro, Batman 66, Guardians of the Galaxy Pro, I assume, unless they want to make it harder for people to see the shots, Catacomb, that's the old one, Freefall, not sure, I don't think I've ever heard of that game, Galaxy, Meteor, Sea Witch, and, for some reason,
    27:15
I guess it's just a mandatory inclusion. RoboCop. A lot of old and new, a lot of Sterns. Half those games are awesome. No, they're, well, yeah, yeah, they're awesome. The biggest quotation marks possible. I don't know what the heck I'm gonna choose or, yeah. I might do the ZachRandom.org strategy on this. Jesus. What are they gonna, are they gonna stream that? Yeah, I think so. I think that's, I mean, I assume so. I want to see people play Catacomb and get confused.
    27:46
That's what I want to see. Oh my god, that game, I had to play that at some tournament and I looked at the instruction card, I looked on the board, I saw lights everywhere, and then I was like, you know what, that spinner's lit, and I just hit the spinner and kept hitting the spinner and stuff happened. But yeah, I don't know. Did your ball land and you're just sitting there and not realizing you're supposed to play it? I don't know what you're giving me advice on. It's like all the points, a lot of points come at the end when you use the flipper thing and I'm like, okay, I guess that's cool.
    28:17
Here's your tip. Left flipper controls the color. Right flipper fires the flipper there on the bagatelle game. And it just gives you numbers that you don't have. So if anyone's played Catacomb, it's got a piece of toast in the middle. That's what it looks like. It's a grid with all these numbers and the numbers are different colors. And what the Bagatelle is for, it's got like the, I think it's got four, the four columns for the four different colors. With three switches on each column for some reason.
    28:49
Yeah, I don't know. That doesn't make sense. But you select, select one that you don't have and if it hits it, you can keep going. If it's something you already have, it ends. Oh. The Bag Box game. That's how it works. The locks are totally random. You can't even actively shoot them. We'll just follow in the saucers. And I think you get multiball when you complete, is it a line or a color? I can't remember. I think it's a color. But the thing is, if you complete the color like during the bagatelle, say it's like ball two, when you start ball three, as soon as you plunge, multiball will start.
    29:22
You'll be like, what the hell just happened? Why did multiball start? This is completely confusing. Wait, after you drain, if you complete it with the bagatelle? If you complete the color, then you've qualified the multiball. The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi.

    30:34
Yeah, I should, I actually should have. That was, it was that year. Yeah, I could have. I should have. With the incorrect software on it. Hey, I like that. Yeah, yeah. We know you like that. Yeah, we brought this up last week. Because you kept playing it until you got that. As soon as I saw the score, it's like, oh, God, they must have, well, actually, I knew they had the software, the wrong software on there because I saw it during gameplay that was staying lit. And it's like, man, someone's going to get a ridiculous score on this if they can keep hitting this thing. And? And it happened.
    31:04
As soon as I saw that score, it's like, oh, someone exploited it. Is that about it? Most of it was, I mean, Texas is going to be awesome. Lou Ferrigno's going to be there, and Incredible Hulk himself. I wonder if Stern's going to announce their game. That's the big question, right? With the 316? 316. I might be the only one with that question, or even thinking that's a thing, but you know. Anything's possible. The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi.
    32:01
Watch this new tutorial from Bowen Kerins, World Cup Soccer. Goal! Raymond's gotta like that game. Oh yeah, that actually, yeah. See Ronnie remembers everything, but he knows Raymond's gotta like that game. Even if he didn't like it before, I'm sure he likes it now. The other option, Kaylee could have chosen Ghostbusters was his other, he was thinking of choosing Ghostbusters and he went with World Cup instead. Thank God. Oh, yeah. Oh, that would've been painful. Yeah.
    32:33
What do we got? I heard something about a podcast bloodbath, Bruce. Have you heard something about this? Oh, yes, the podcast bloodbath. One of our good friends of the show, Chuck Webster, with the, what's his, what's his, the Wicked Pit... Wicked Piss a Pinball Pit. Yes. And his Trash Talker Invitational Committee has made a new tournament coming up. Well, let's read it what it says.
    33:04
The Trash Talker Invitational Podcaster Bloodbath Tournament to be held at Replay FX. Meet, greet, and defeat. The selection committee is proud to announce their next tournament, the Trash Talker Invitational Podcaster Bloodbath. Desk jockeys with mics from all over the world will be converging on the Steel City for what promises to be an epic battle of good versus evil and loudmouths against huge egos. Once and for all, we'll know what pinball podcasting team has what it takes to back up their braggadocious blather with the actual skill to play the silver ball.
    33:43
The gathering will take place on Saturday, July 28th at 7 p.m. or after the Pinburgh champion has been crowned. There will be no cost to enter. The application process to be considered for the tournament will be released shortly. So Bruce, what do you think? You think we could do this? Is Bruce on mute? We're destined to fail. Yeah, we can do this. This, you know, really definitely. Which is it? We're destined to fail or we can do this?
    34:16
We can do it and we're destined to fail. Wow. Now again, my participation in replay effects at all is unknown at this current time. Same with me. I thought you guys have a pretty undefeated record when it comes to challengers at pinball events. We do. Just don't tell Zach that. Well, for me, I had no problem. Oh yeah, of course, of course, yes. You didn't hold up your weight. I didn't hold up my weight.
    34:47
No. So I fell over, because I'm too fat. Jesus, the hell did that mean? Brucisms. It is Brucisms. I love Brucisms. It's called pull your weight, I think, is what it is. Yeah, I think so. No, no it's not. Yeah, no, no it's not. In full denial, that's another Brucism. Good lord. Remember, you can't please anyone any of the time. No, you cannot. That is a true quote my boss used to say to me all the time. So don't even try. Can't please anyone so don't even try. Am I right?
    35:21
No Bruce, you're not right. No bullshit. So, Trash Talk Invitational is a registered trademark of GSV. So we'll have to, I can't wait to hear more about what this is. Yeah, we kind of know a little bit more. We know a little too. No we don't, no we don't. The gimmick, come on. We don't know anything about this. We were completely surprised by this. Yeah, that's gotta be it. This was posted to our page. Like, what the hell is this? Little trash can with eyeballs looking at us. Did you see the other post that was posted today on our page?
    35:52
By you? By me. On the Slam Tilt Podcast page on Facebook. Sure. Why don't you explain to our viewers what you posted? Did you see it? Yes. Okay, good. I posted a picture. Hold on, I'm getting it right up right now so I make sure I say it exactly right. I got a picture. This actually picture came from an Australian who is in the US right now, stranded I think, but he's in Vegas right now. Our own Ryan Say, he sent me a picture of 100% whey protein and it is the gold standard.
    36:27
So I wrote things underneath it saying, just need to take this to up our game. So Greg Pavarelli said, I'll make sure to buy some for the day I'm back on the show. And somebody else put a Wayne's World, no way, way, which is very good, Tony. Very nice done. Very nice, Bruce. It just never gets old, does it? No, never fucking does. This reminds me of the Beavis and Butthead episode where they just keep laughing.
    36:57
Yeah. Does it ever get old? Are you going to laugh every time someone says the name Buttkiss? God, I love that episode. I'm sorry. Yep. Great episode. So we had a tournament this week out in the East Coast. But it was called Stomp West. Right. It was on the East Coast. I know. I was severely disappointed that it wasn't on the West Coast. I was like, oh, I can go to this. You can go to this. The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi.
    37:53
No, it's already too inconvenient. Wow. So, but I think we should call Raymond the Barnstormer. Yeah. Raymond Barnstorm Davidson. He's just like the Barnstormer team. He just comes in, does his thing, and boom, he's gone. Wasn't Raymond just here? Wait a sec. Yep. The trophy's gone. What happened? Hmm. Hmm, I think I've created a new nickname. There we go. The Barnstormer. So let's see, Stop West. Yeah, what was that all about? What happened?
    38:26
We had 28 participants come to the Silver Ball Saloon to play first four hours of match play, which I still haven't put the results in. I've got to do that tomorrow. I had a busy night last night and tonight. But they all came out and we took the top 12 after the four hours And we had people from four players from Canada New Jersey New York and I think that it So a good selection of players, including our own Steve Bowden.
    38:58
And that was my pick. Nice, Steve. Bonus. I think there was more than four. Canadians? Yeah. Jeff Teolis, Phil Birnbaum. Oh, yeah. Craig, and what was the young lady's name? Megan. Oh, and Joe. And Chris. Chris, the one guy I was playing on Starz there at the annual Canadian. Oh. I think there was at least five or six Canadians. Six Canadians. Boy, they invaded us. They invaded.
    39:28
They did, but I enjoyed them until they started putting Canadian money in my machines, and I disliked them very much. They try to damn my machines. That's how they win. But we had our top four. Fourth place was a local player, Matt Sells. He did very well. He was the top qualifier. He also won the B trophy, the B money. He was the highest ranked B player under 25, or above 2500.
    40:01
So he got a good nice payday from that also. The Wally Winka Show, Knapp Arcade, Bally Williams, Straight Down the Middle, Bally Williams,
    40:33
John Popadiuk, Bob Betor, Keith Elwin, Laser Los, Bowen Kerins, Lyman F. Sheats Jr., orbit ramps, Automated Amusements, Python Anghelo, Joe Kaminkow, Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi.
    41:03
John, how did you do in your second round? Or first round for you? Oh, first round I won. Wow, congratulations. I honestly can't remember. I think I had seven points. Okay, very nice. I can't remember what I played actually. That's pretty bad. But I remember the final. Which is now on Twitch and is saved to YouTube, right? Yes, if you go to our Slam Tilt Podcast Twitch page, you can see the entire stream, which is, um, Jesus, like 10 hours long.
    41:34
10 hours, wow. Yeah, no drop frames thanks to Bruce turning off his guest wireless. Thank you, Bruce. Yes, yes, that was very needed, but a good time had by all. Yes, but we also had the Stars Charity Tournament for Project Pinball, just like we had last time, so I have highlights from that. You can watch Bruce win again. Woo-hoo! And Kevin Manny win. I'll get second place. And you can watch George Takei play. George Takei was there. Yes, and he played well. He played well.
    42:05
He was better than you would think. He made a nice outlane save. I was impressed. I'm surprised we don't see him at more tournaments. And Steph posted pictures of me and Kevin making it rain money. Oh, yes. Yep. Yes, because all the money was actually donated back to Project Pinball. Yes. Nanosen Lundgren,
    42:52
D redemption But in the final four, the first game we played was Medieval Madness remake with the just bizarre flippers. The castle is so early on the flipper. It's just so weird. I ended up, I was player four, was I player four? Yeah, I was player four and Steve, Steve had like 22 million and the other two players had like 8 million. I had like six million, so I was only going for one thing, is the castle, the second castle,
    43:22
which I got at four million, because I wanted to get ahead of them, that was the priority. And then right after I did that, it drained almost immediately. So I got second in that. Then we played Quicksilver. We all sucked on that. I don't think anyone had a good game. That's why I'm pissed. I was second. I had them. I should have won that. My alley passing was not working. The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi.
    44:15
The Inter deny the release headed are providing indian anti-ican ScaBLE I passed him on my last ball. I got like 20 million. Zach got like, say, 19,500,000.
    44:51
He was in the middle. So he did what he needed to do. So then I just needed help. And Matt had the insta-drain. Yeah, Matt had the insta-drain, unfortunately. No. Yeah. But the quicksilver was the key. I needed to win that. That hurt. Once I got second in that. I'm John Popadiuk, and I'll see you next time on Pinnacle Podcast.
    45:42
Circuit Finals. It was made by Seymour Shabo. That's Steve. That's Scott. Well, he knows games pretty good. It's um, rec.games.pinball, strategy guides, rule sheets for 80s and System 11 pins, and it goes over like free fall, which I still have never seen. It says, shoot drop target center bank when lit on matrix to increase left lane shot, ignore multiball. This Walkman packers classroom will be version 3 for students. The only one or two hits is from Scott. Same thing, Seymour, Shabo, whatever the name is, and he gives a rundown on what to do on Catacomb.
    46:43
It's probably the only one like, it's the only tutorial on it you'll probably ever see. Sounds good. So do you want to do the mail ball bag first or do you want to do face off? I'm going to do mail ball bag. I like to empty my mail ball bag before I face off. Oh my, okay. Let me bring up the ball bag. Oh yes. A little less than the ball bag here. Let's see what we got. I'd like to thank Jim Mueller for his, he sent a pin side link to a cheetah backglass for sale.
    47:20
You can bring it home with you. The funny thing is Bruce actually has a cheetah backglass. I do. It's the only thing I have. That's the only thing he has. He just needs the game. So close. It's NOS though. It's $300. Perfect. How much did I pay for my Tron Translate L3E? I remember getting mine, it was like $250. He was another vote for bringing George Takei back into the outro. Which we did. You guys didn't get flagged for copyright infringement?
    47:53
I'm not putting it on YouTube anymore. The 2-3 views per episode that I would get just wasn't worth it anymore. And the thumbs down on two of them too. Well, yeah. Yeah. Wow. We gotta love the internet. Gotta love the internet. The douchebags can't flag us anymore, so screw them. Let's see, we got... Oh, we got one from Ryan C. In Vegas. Good day, lads. By the time you're... Maybe I shouldn't try this in my accent. My accent is bad, according to Jeff Teolis.
    48:25
Ooh. I think it's great. Great. By the time you're reading this, I'll be in Vegas. What was my friends have warned me? Hookerville. Wow. Apparently I should not talk to anyone at the hotel bar. Hopefully I won't be stopped at the border for an excessive amount of kangaroo sex, or as Keith Elwin calls it, gift wrap. Firstly, yes, my sea witch plays like shit. I have no reference point as I don't know anyone else that has one.
    48:55
Well, you could have came over here, but you couldn't get your schedule right. Yeah, you would have played two, not one, but two. Yes, apparently I should be putting on Williams flippers up top. Yes, you should. I guess I could look up a video. I don't know how you guys have so many games and have them all working so well. I don't either. Once I had over ten in the house and it was game over. Uh-uh. This must have been in response to how long ACDC took to update. Yes, Sam games take forever to update. This There's poppingり.
    49:34
At the time when it was mushrooms84, John Popadauk & Tim Ball 7 Ryan C. and Internal Firmwares. He keeps calling the software firmwares. That's what they do. They call comps for tournaments.
    50:06
Six day and internal firmwares between his two public releases and I think I was responsible for at least half. So thank Ryan C. for all the bug finding. Fixes. Finding and fixes. So I don't think I noticed dialed in bug that because I updated the game maybe two days into getting it. Oh, the one I talked about. Why did you take three months to do it? Update it? Yeah, I wasn't too quick on the ball. I didn't know that Dial In had released a new version. I just found out from your podcast last week.
    50:39
It's a minor, minor fixes, a minor update. It's supposed to fix one bug that I never had. But one other thing it does that I noticed is if you have a ball locked and the game ends, it releases it immediately while going into the match sequence instead of doing the full match sequence then releasing it. Because it would actually allow you to start a game with the ball still in there. I actually did get the bug where I got locked out of Chaos in Quantum City because I was trying to show someone. John Popadiuk, Bob Betor, The Valley Company, Subsidiary of Walter Kidde & Co., Inc., Mirco Playfields, Tim Kitzrow, Scott Danesi.
    51:36
English quella... ... It just reminds me of 9-ball, that particular shot.
    52:06
It's very similar. It's almost a similar spot, too. Similar angle. Let's see. Why did I take three months to do it? That's right, you were patient enough to not play the game before the Cliffies arrived. That is correct. Which I've heard a rumor, I don't know if it's true, but I guess the dialed-ins are coming with Cliffies now. Mine came with Cliffies, yeah. I never knew what you guys were talking about. Actual Cliffies. Oh, actual Cliffies? Yeah, see, it was coming with protectors from... Jersey Jack. The Cliffies were thinner and have less bounce outs. And I guess at some point now they're actually using Cliffies in there.
    52:42
Which means if you want, if you already have an older game without them and you order Cliffies, you got to wait months to get them now because he's so swamped. Oh, that's funny. So let's see. I noticed a heap of tiny little bugs on the latest firmware. Let's see. I don't know if I should be reading some of the other stuff. It's it involves people at JJP. I don't know if it's insider stuff, but... Wait, who is this email from? This is from Ryan C. Oh, wow. Looks like he was working with Ted Eskies on some of these bugs. He actually sent a string of him, him and Ted, who is the software guy for this game,
    53:15
going back and forth on certain things he found. And he included a link where he showed a bug, which I watched the video and I was trying to figure out what the bug was that he was showing. I couldn't figure it out. Is it some secret points exploit? I don't know. It's just, I don't know. He was starting a bow and then he was hitting shots, like, you know, by hand. And I was looking like, what's weird? I don't, I don't, eh. I guess I'm not very good at that stuff. What am I saying? I'm great at that stuff. I noticed the stupid ball releasing thing, like, that they changed. I'll notice things like that, but I can't, like, figure out rule sets.
    53:51
I feel like you can figure out rule sets. You just choose which rule sets, like... Okay, you got me there. You got me there. It gets to a certain level of thinking. It's like, I don't want to go that. I just don't. No. No. Unless the game's really good and does a very good job of sort of introducing you layer by layer, like Lord of the Rings. Do you like Lord of the Rings? I like Lord of the Rings. And that's the deepest rule set, but they do it in such a way that you kind of just ease your way into it, right? And you want to learn more just because it presents itself and it's fun. It's a very fine art.
    54:27
For sure. Yeah. It also depends on like, I like the humor dialed in. Oh yeah. So I get into that more. I like the, I played, when I played the prototype at Expo, oh, the old, the former Expo, even with its earliest code, it was very obvious what they were doing, like the disasters, and each disaster had like a character. Yeah. And it's like, I'm totally on board with this already. I mean, I could see what they're doing. Let's see. The Mailbag
    54:57
Alright, yeah, here we go. Here's where Ron is wrong. And we're first, we got it from the one. We got it from the one. Last week I criticized the wedge stock, the wedge sockets used in Sterns. Specifically, I criticized the ones like right in the in-lane guide by the flippers where I stated like look at any Stern. When you flip the flipper, usually the light closest to the flipper in the in-lane guide Ed was a cerumen pro in a war of jazz, and la n incluso la rajol,
    55:42
un hay que qu rubbish. Rel обычно… After Star Trek, it does not do it. But they still flicker then. Why? Why do they flicker then? Just a lot of vibration down in that area. Yeah, but it was like, when they were incandescent, they wouldn't flicker, they would just die quickly. Right. You have to keep replacing them. But with the LEDs now, it's like they just flicker.
    56:14
In a way, it's more annoying. I'd rather just have the thing work and die. And, and Eric also gave us, because he loves spreadsheets, we can see how we're doing in the face-off. Let's see. And he gave me credit for the face-off win. Ah, boo. So let's see, let's see, I won, I won again, I won again, oh, then I lost. Bummer. So thank you, Eric.
    56:45
And that's it for the mailbag. Oh my. Wow. So let's just, this is emptied out. Oh yes. I just have to keep saying this to get you going here. Of course. For Bruce Olney, pictures of next three Stern games. Whoa, okay, we gotta, gotta get rid of that. Just, just kidding, just kidding. Alright, hold on. Thanks Gary. Are you ready for face-off? Not really, but go ahead.
    57:16
So let me just get the list up here quickly. Now, it's 1982. Bruce's Williams, I Am Gottlieb. But Bally had a lot of good games out here too. Yes, they did. Unfortunately, he didn't get that. Yeah. What else is new? Fail. Alright, so, Bruce has Cosmic Gunfight, Defender, Varkon, if you want to include that, and Warlock.
    57:48
And Ron. I have Caveman Devil Dare Haunted House Punk Rocky Spirit and Striker I don even know what the hell that is You know that game That the one we played the soccer theme one remember Stroker At Arcade Scientists for send in the ads and make a speech ended with voices like eight open id for our next towers titled League Oderkous The Freest projectingarya meros is Che oddite War Zagen of beniw Corinthians,

    Cosmic Gunfight.

    59:24
Who designed it? Ousler has to be. Barry Ousler with PFUTs doing the rules and the sound and the software, so it's another good thing. They made a thousand of these. A thousand and eight of these. Great game. I give you Cosmic Gunfight. I yield the floor. So for my game, I'm picking Spirit. Gottlieb Spirit. A classic. Most of these were shipped to Europe, unfortunately, but a great, great Gottlieb game.
    60:02
It has the same, the motor from Black Hole in the back box, but used much better. Very cool, weird art, some dudes like face and lightning bolts. It's a wide body design, space theme. It has flipper savers on either side, so you can save a doomed ball. It's got like, what is it, four, five flippers if you count those. Six flippers, what am I saying?
    60:32
There's six flippers, there's an up-down ramp, it has two ball and three ball multiball. It's got a really cool lock shot that looks impossible, but you can actually get it up in there. Killer sounds. The multiball intro is really impressive. Very cool, fun game. It's got tons of drop targets. Like I said, it's got ramps, it's got a little mini upper playfield. I give you Gottlieb Spirit at all times.
    61:05
Gottlieb Classic. Okay, Spirit. Hold on, we get the rebuttals now. You haven't been around since the rebuttals. We get the 30-second rebuttal. Spirit sucks, that's a Gottlieb, enough said. Done. Here we go. Done. I yield the floor. Oh man. Wow. That's... okay. I mean... I feel uncomfortable on Gottlieb's as much as the next player, so that does kind of hold some weight, but... Yes. Let Ron do his rebuttal. Yeah, I gotta do my rebuttal. Oh, the re-rebuttal, okay.
    61:36
Yeah. Well, it's standard debate rules, so this is my rebuttal period. So what was it? Okay, so it doesn't have speech. Stripped down playfield, money cost cutting, I give you Cosmic Gunfight. Thank you. Ooh, okay. Well, my first thought when I heard Cosmic Gunfight is the name that all the tournament players give it, which is Cosmic Right Orbit, because you just shoot the right orbit over and over and over.
    62:09
I'm going to go with the right orbit. And if you get bored, you can go for multiball, but usually I end up draining when I go for multiball and I'm like, why didn't I just keep shooting the right orbit? I do like the uniqueness of Spirit. I think those flipper sabers and that upper playfield might just push it over the edge for me. It's a tough one though, because Cosmic Gunfight's a Williams game. It does, it just, it flips better. You know, you're more familiar with it. It's got a bunch of targets, but you're just really just shooting that right orbit all So, I don't know the rules of spirit, but I assume if it's got that many shots, it's got to be, you know, a little more, have some more depth to it than Cosmic Gunfight.
    62:51
It does. It doesn't. No, it doesn't, because it's a boring godly, come on. It's like Black Hole on steroids. What does that tell you? Bad and more bad. No, it's not Black Hole. It has a display in the center of the playfield, too. Oh yeah, just like Vector did. Just like Vector did. Great. Great job there. Different manufacturer. Doesn't even apply here. Yeah, I'm just gonna... Man, that's tough. I'm gonna have to go... I'm gonna go with Spirit just because it's got a lot more going on. Alright.
    63:22
Boo. He's booing the judge. Boo. So, alright, next one we will go to... Let's see, what can I pick here? Let's go right for it. Devil's Dare. Another Gottlieb widebody with a killer art package. If you want the devil, this is the game for you. We have the devil, we have lots of red, we have a feature that I love and I bring up over and over again, the player controlled kickback.
    63:56
It's got two ball and three ball multiball and speech, bunch of drop targets, spinners, A very unique flipper way up in the top, probably one of the highest locations I've ever seen a flipper actually exist. And it is there for a reason. You can use it to hit stuff. Good rule set. It's got, like I said, it's got the two ball, three ball, multiball. You can also light an extra ball, collect an extra ball. It plays well. I mean, passable sound. It's got speech.
    64:29
It sounds like the Gottlieb guy sounds on most of their games. Just good old classic Gottlieb fun. I give you Devil's Dare. I yield the floor. I am going for a rare great game from Williams. Defender. You get a great game with three flippers, four drop targets in the middle. This is one of the first games that had drop targets popping up all over the playfield. And you had to take out, like, you know, the aliens and get bonus points with it and everything.
    65:02
Two pop bumpers, cool lock mech on the right hand side where it goes past the drop tar- you have to hit the drop target, then get it past it to lock the ball. You get a drop target on the other side to get another target up top. Ugh, just a really good game, great sounds because it's using the sounds from Defender, the video game, the classic video game from the 1980s. You get the- the aliens you gotta hit out, a lot of side targets. Beautiful cabinetry, artwork, great game overall.
    65:32
I'm trying to see who wrote, who did this one. Who did this one? Gotta be Alistair again. Harry Alistair and Joe Kaminkow. So both of them, trust me, if there were more of these, more people would be loving this game. I actually like the game a lot. One of the guys up here has one. Great game. I give you Defender. I yield the floor. Rehash of an arcade hit, trying to cash in on the video game craze by making a pinball based on a video game using leftover hyperball cabinets, upper right flipper to supposedly try to lock the ball, and an early impossible lock shot.
    66:14
Yeah, that's it. That's it. That's it. I yield the floor. Well, maybe because Ron's not a great player, he can't hit the lock shots. That's, you know, that sounds like a personal problem with him, not with the game. Great game. Devil's Dare. It's, it's Scott Lee repairs and disaster all the way around. It doesn't play well. Sounds just blub blub blub blub. It's almost like one step above System One. I yield the floor. I don't even have to worry about it. This one's a win for me.
    66:44
Yeah, I mean, Bruce is kind of on to something with the Devil's Dare is kind of just Just one of those like awkward games I never want to pull in a tournament where it's like shooting random stuff a million miles from the flipper and like getting beat by people flailing while you're trying to like start multiball and then like it some you get no points it's like what what happened why did they get more points than me like that sort of thing the artwork is pretty scary honestly and defender looks cool and I like shots with upper flippers especially if they're hard shots like
    67:20
The Jam on Tron, one of my favorite shots, so gotta go Defender. Woohoo! Fail. How can you get more of an upper flipper than on Devil's Dare? Look how high that flipper is. But it's not a good flipper, it's a bad flipper. Nah, it's a good flipper. Okay, picking one of my last two. I have to pick it. Warlock. Oh, there is actually a shot on Devil's Dare with that flipper. There's like a gate up there. Huh. Yeah, see now you see it. Fail. Oh, too late. Okay, we're going to Warlock.
    67:55
Blackout was so good, we made it even better with Warlock. You get the out hole on the right hand side for your collect bonus. You get a couple spinners. Who doesn't love spinners? I know everyone here does. You can't criticize the spinners on this one, Ron. You get the drop, you get the targets in all three areas, just like Blackout. Great game. Williams Playfields, Blackout, Blackout is superior with the cutting out of the lights.
    68:28
But Warlock is good. I yield the floor. Alright, my last game, I will choose Haunted House. All time got leave classic. First game with the three, three levels of goodness, not just two. Three levels of goodness. Upper playfield, the regular playfield, and the basement. Tons of fun action, great playfield, artwork, great back glass with a cool little light,
    69:00
The lighting effect with the haunted house. Look at that back glass. You can see ghosts in the windows and stuff. Isn't that cool? You have a great lower playfield. You have the cobwebs, the strop targets. You have not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven, but eight flippers. Eight flippers. Count them. Eight flippers. This is an all-time classic. You can get to, you have ramp to get to the upper playfield. You can keep it up there for a while. You have a couple shots that lead you to the lower playfield. We can have fun down there. And unlike Black Hole, you just don't lose your ball for no reason. That makes it clearly superior. Good sound. It's a killer artwork package. Wide body. Packed a lot into this game. I give you Haunted House. I yield the floor.
    69:58
8 flippers of dudness. Wide bodies are slow. This one's even slower. Not fun at all. Yeah, we did fix the bottom problem of trying to kick it out and drain ya. But other than that, it is a snooze fest. No multiball fun. You would think they would get this right with this game and make it a perfect game like they did with Black Hole. No, they chintzed out. I yield the floor. Warlock, nothing but a blackout re-theme with shittier artwork, no multiball, no speech, just doesn't do it. More cuss cutting, that's all it is. Reuse of the same playfield, fail. I yield the floor.
    70:43
It's unfortunate, because you really didn't need a whole lot to beat Warlock, but Haunted House is just miserable. That was one of those games I always dreamed of playing. Like, growing up, I saw pictures of it, and I'm like, oh my god, a three-level playfield! And now I play it, and I'm just like, what is, why are there so many flippers? Where are the shots? What am I doing? And then the ball's over before I hit, yeah, just, just a clunker. Um, so I gotta go Warlock. Woooo!
    71:14
Well, I guess everyone does hate Gottlieb. Yes! This has been proven now again and again. I'm going to prove it again and again. What the hell else was I supposed to pick there? You couldn't pick anything. I mean what could I even pick? Caveman? That ain't going to work. Punk? Games? Was the games one of them? No. Punk would have been a good one. I think Punk would have been better. Yeah, maybe I should have used Punk instead. Maybe. Well, Raymond, we know you have to get going.
    71:44
Yeah, I got to go to my Monday Night Pinball League. We'd like to thank you for coming on. You're always welcome on this and champion and you might be getting a call from us in the future about a little tournament coming up. Just let's just say leave it at that. I had no idea we were going there. Okay. I went there.
    72:15
I went. I'm doing bribery. Okay. Thank you Raymond for coming on. Thank you Raymond. All right, thank you guys. Talk to you later. Have a good night. See you. And that was Raymond Davidson. Number two player in the world. Yeah, I know. We get the good one. Then next week is another good one where we're just going to tease you a little bit. I hear this guy, he's won a major. He's won a major. So we know who it isn't. We know who it isn't. Do we want to go there? No. We'll leave that for Jeff Teolis. Yeah, we'll leave that for Jeff Teolis. We like that guy.
    72:46
That's his gimmick. Let's see, what else do we got here? I think that might be just about it. I think so too. I gotta... Bruce is tired. He's had a long day. I was at the bar. We put six new taps in at the bar. So we now have 12 draft beers for your enjoyment. So are you gonna do what I say? Are you gonna dress up as the tapper guy? I think I should. And run to the taps. Throw a beer down and watch my wife just kill me instantly. mcbr homework
