TL;DR

Rick and Morty gameplay footage shows strong visuals, sound, and fun factor despite Hardy's personal indifference to the IP.

Summary

Cary Hardy provides early impressions of Rick and Morty pinball gameplay footage released by Spooky Pinball, praising the soundtrack by Scott Denise, lighting effects, and visual design while noting that gameplay appears more fun than Stranger Things. He highlights specific observations about shot difficulty (far left orbit to garage), pop bumper behavior, and callout quality in adult mode, though expresses personal ambivalence about the Rick and Morty IP itself while acknowledging the game's mechanical appeal.

Notable Quotes

  • “The visuals on that look great... when it comes to visual the lighting on it is also great there's a portion on here that I want to fast forward to it's around like the six minute mark where he amazingly has made it to look like an actual spotlight is going over the playing field”

Cary Hardy@ 1:00 — Highlights specific visual design excellence, particularly the spotlight lighting effect

  • “As far as gameplay goes, it looks funner than Stranger Things. The pop bumper doesn't look as deadly as I thought it was going to be because it's pretty well contained and controlled around there.”

Cary Hardy@ 1:21 — Direct gameplay comparison and pop bumper assessment

  • “It seems like it might be a pretty tricky shot to nail, like it just right on the tip of the flipper in order for you to get it.”

Cary Hardy@ 2:07 — Technical analysis of shot difficulty for far left orbit

  • “The callouts sound great. They had it set on adult mode, so there is obviously some cursing going on, so if you plan on watching this, do not watch it with your kids because you have MF and stuff like that dropping”

Cary Hardy@ 2:13 — Notes adult content warning and callout quality

  • “if i was to buy this machine it would not be because of the theme it would because it looks like it is fun to play.”

Cary Hardy@ 2:45 — Cary's personal stance: game appeals on mechanics rather than IP

  • “It looks like the implementation of the callouts as well as the video modes and stuff like that will make this game very humorous.”

what's up guys and welcome back to my channel where I talk and do everything pinball so that sounds interesting to you then hit that subscribe button down below I've got to make this a real quick video because I really do need to head out the door to work on a couple of them on my location pins but they did drop some actual gameplay footage and uh of Rick and Morty and we have yet to see any of this and we have finally got it so it's available now on Spooky YouTube channel you can go there and watch it um but I did manage to watch the full stream of it and there's a couple of things that I do need to pinpoint out or mention and just my first quick impressions of it that is uh number one I want to say that the soundtrack is obviously Scott Danesi and it's great it's got a really good beat to it and it looks I mean not that looks is later but sounds amazing too when it comes to visual the lighting on it is also great there's a portion on here that I want to fast forward to it's around like the six minute mark where he amazingly has made it to look like an actual spotlight is going over the playing field like it searching for something And the visuals on that look great As far as gameplay goes, it looks funner than Stranger Things. The pop bumper doesn't look as deadly as I thought it was going to be because it's pretty well contained and controlled around there. So you're not going to get it as often as you think you would be getting it. but it does seem like it has a lot of oomph behind it. That pop-upper can eject that ball almost up a ramp. Another thing to note is that during the 15-minute stream, I don't think anybody hit that very far. He almost hit it right there, but no one has hit the far left orbit to feed the garage that way. Now, thankfully, you can feed the garage through the very far right orbit if you hit it hard enough, and that's how they were able to do it, but I don't recall ever seeing anybody hit that far left orbit. It seems like it might be a pretty tricky shot to nail, like it just right on the tip of the flipper in order for you to get it. The callouts sound great. They had it set on adult mode, so there is obviously some cursing going on, so if you plan on watching this, do not watch it with your kids because you have MF and stuff like that dropping so I don recommend watching it with the kids Something else that I need to make sure i mentioned it to this so i not just throwing it out there because i a fan of the show i have actually watched and caught up all the way through the rick and morty show and it's not that i'm not a fan of it it's that uh the theme itself doesn't really draw me in if i was to buy this machine it would not be because of the theme it would because it looks like it is fun to play. The show, in my opinion, it's alright. I mean, I don't go around recommending it to people, but that's just me. It's okay. But a lot of people are praising this, in my opinion, a lot higher than I think they should. It's a good show, but not enough to where I'm just like, oh my god, you haven't seen this show? But maybe it's my sense of humor. But there's just... I mean, I really honestly didn't laugh very much throughout the series. But that's just me. But it was entertaining, but I wouldn't say it's hilarious. But it looks like the implementation of the callouts as well as the video modes and stuff like that will make this game very humorous. Now I want to say that we're coming up on the particular moment in the light show that I thought was very eye-catchy. And I think it coming up here pretty soon I didn get the exact time stamp on it Here it is This is that portion right there That not I mean that just all that an led light show guys that the play field lights just changing colors but it gives it a really nice visual effect there's even one point where i'm not sure what's going on here i want to say it was about the 12 minute marker it's about the 12 minute marker where the something happens here it says censored i don't know what happened but it said censored and then it kind of just faded away i'm not sure if there's a particular mode that they're not wanting to show off yet or what but they censored a portion and kind of like fast forwarded and stuff right there so um with that being said guys i'm going to leave a link down below in case you do not already have Spooky Pinball's YouTube channel, subscribe to. By all means, go there, watch this stream, that way you can get a good idea of what the game plays like. And until next time, guys, peace out.
