You keep tuning in, we're not sure why, so we'll keep doing it. It's the Poor Man's Pinball Podcast with Drew and Ian. Welcome to the Poor Man's Pinball Podcast, the seventh best pinball podcast on the planet the podcast that generates the most swear word for a minute and the only podcast that syncs up the speech with the video clips i am that was a lot of references a lot of references we have a lot of stuff to cover this week sirs i am gonna be a jam-packed it is we have so much to cover we have a lot going on in our personal life we have a lot going on in the pinball world so we're gonna uh jump right into it i'm drew with me is ian and the infamous ryan kuiper what's going on he's more famous than infamous infamous yeah it depends on who you talk to at home mostly infamous yeah trouble trouble all right hi guys welcome to the poor man's pinball podcast what are you drinking today in i'm drinking a jack daniels honey or tennessee honey whiskey huh it's sweet i can get drunk and cavities at the same time nice yes so small things you know little things little things little things ryan what are you drinking today sir uh nothing i am only one step up from your nothing and that is i am drinking la croix and this is not a ruse there is no whiskey in drew today which is i think a first for the poor mans maybe seems like definitely a first for you drew It was Stone Cold Sober. He had his birthday yesterday. He celebrated yesterday, and he celebrated on Sunday night. I'm drinking for three. Happy belated, since I couldn't make it. Yeah, Ryan didn't make it out, but Ian and I with some friends had a... It wasn't a late night, but it was a fun night. First order of business today is Stern is revealing a new game on Thursday. Ryan, what's it going to be? Since I don't work there... He took the tour. He saw it, folks. He flipped it. He became the Whitewood. You know, big rumor, at least online, is Jurassic World, Jurassic Park. Then some of the people from Stern Online were like, it's not that. Who said it wasn't that? Anyone notable? I'm trying to think if it was on Facebook or Twitter. It's not what you think. Oh, the Jack Danger? Yeah, I think it was. It was like Jack Danger said, I bet you $5 you don't know. Yeah, it was him actually. Jack throwing shit. Throwing the shade, Jack. You think you can go left? I'm just going to go right. I'm pretty sure that's Jurassic World, bro. You know, I really do hope that it is something that we're not expecting because I think it would be totally awesome to actually be surprised. It'll be Deadpool 2. I'll be pissed. Followed up by Munsters, the sequel. Because when you don't know what it's going to be, you have no expectation because there's nothing there to go on. Yeah, but those expectations get built up so fast. As soon as it's revealed, there's someone on pin side going, oh, this game sucks. Yeah, but you're going to get that. I'm sorry, this game is following up Sword of Rage. There are no expectations. We were talking about that before we started recording, that the expectations, I think, for everyone, for Stern, need to be just a little bit lower just because they're making games for operators. Yeah, I mean, with all the last couple of reveals we've had, I've kind of done the same thing to myself. Like, all right, just dial it back. Don't get so hyped. That's not to say that the games that have come out, I'm disappointed. I'm not. It's just I've heard from a few of the other manufacturers, people using words like, that's never been done before. And I've heard it from like three different manufacturers. And I'm like, hmm. Lots of people have been saying that. What is the last thing we saw that hasn't been done before? Well, it depends how you want to look at that. That's what I'm saying. It's tough because, you know, everyone's talking about Wonka, and it's going to have all this great stuff. And at the end of the day, there's nothing new, you know, pinball technology or anything. Yeah, they had that rotating gobble hole thing, which is cool but you know and this is kind of i guess what i'm alluding to also is like deep root everyone's like i think he has really high expectations for that stuff too and i think it's like i think everyone's gonna be like oh it's it's pinball sure that was my line like episode five i think when we talked about it i was like everyone's so hyped about all these new technologies that they want to put in there i was like at the end of the day everyone's gonna be pissed because it's just pinball yeah but it's so true though it's pinball baby but in all honesty like what are you going to do that's so evolutionary that's going to be like oh this has to be in everything from here on out square pinball oh my goodness not the shape of the machine i was talking never mind um i'm the only one drinking here this isn't fun i guess now you know how i feel every other week i drink every week with all the leaks like i feel like everyone's always known what's coming out and there's no surprise anymore really except for maybe what the layout's going to be but even that gets leaked too sometimes uh i am surprised though this this is the first time in a while that we haven't seen anything you know like with deadpool we saw the art and you know a little bit of the layout some stuff and we saw different thing so it makes me happy that a lot of that stuff hasn't been leaked yet because like i said i want to be surprised ign article tomorrow what do you think maybe ign are they going to break it again people are saying it's probably going to be simultaneous where you know on thursday ign is going to break something and then they're going to be shown at comic-con maybe at the same time i would i would like to see something tomorrow on ign but jurassic world at comic-con yeah how does that get received i don't think they really care how it gets received there because it's just a big audience and it's going to be in every media outlet sort of yeah we'll see if that's even even what it's going to be okay so real quickly uh let's go around the table here and uh who do we think the designer is going to be elwynn or eddie those are kind of the two elwynn that's what it seems like um i i think he nailed iron maiden so i'm really curious to see what he'll do next. And he hasn't done anything in almost two years, so he had plenty of time to be working on something else. But same thing with Brian Eddy. I mean, he's made three games, and they're all amazing. So he has a lot more to live up to than Elwin, though, let's be honest. That's the thing. I feel like a lot of people want to say that, but Keith Elwin's one of the best players in the world. Well, he's the best player, but he's only designed one pinball machine. But it was awesome. No, it's a great pinball machine. They're two extremely competent people that I'm very hyped to see what they come out with. But not to take anything away from Elwin, when Eddie was doing his great games, he was doing a lot of that stuff himself. Elwin comes in, they've got teams of people now that are helping do a lot of this stuff. You know what I mean? They tweaked some of the shots, and they did different things, and he had some help that way. I mean, out of the two of the three Brian Eddy games, Lyman coded. That's a big help. Well, it would be awesome if he did his next one too, but the rumor is that he's not doing that. Who knows what? So I also think Elwin. So we've got Elwin, Elwin, Elwin. That's what it seems like. Okay. So what do we think about the coder for this game? I think the logical choices are Tanyo Klyce, who did Deadpool, or Rick Nagle. Did I say that right? Anybody know? Sure. Sure. Sounded glorious. He did the coding for Iron Maiden, worked with Elwin on the rules and stuff. If my memory serves right, when Keith Elwin was on the Loser Kid pinball podcast, he said it was going to be the same group. For his next game? I believe that's what he said. Okay. Listen to the Loser Kid, Keith L. one episode to see if I'm right or wrong. Okay. Well, so we don't really know because, I mean, they obviously have a lot of people now. They have more people in-house than ever. Yeah, absolutely. It really could be anybody. And for all we know, maybe Lyman does just do it, and we'd be like, holy crap, this is awesome. Anything else to add to the awesome Stern reveal that we know nothing about? Well, I agree with Ryan with the coder. it's going to be elwynn's coder i think they're going to just be a team and work on it like that and i have a feeling that it's going to be colorful who's doing the art do we know no that's the other that's interesting nothing has been leaked like we said before it's crazy at least not to us well everyone leaks stuff to us because we have like at least 30 people that listen to us every single week can we just stop stop right there and just be like where the fuck is our shills man we're trying to shill hard here we've been Win Schilling and Win Schilling and Win Schilling nobody's given us anything for Win Schilling and i really think we need to start Win Schilling more i just it's very frustrating out there it's terrible yeah i don't have anything else to add to that yeah i just wish we could show more that's all but okay anyway back to elwynn and the mystery game i'm excited though i think we're gonna find out though i'm pretty sure we're gonna find that out before we even post this episode, whether it gets leaked tonight or tomorrow. Sure. So you people out there in Radioland already know, and you're like, you idiots. It was My Little Pony the entire time. It was designed by Jack Danger, and it was coded by Yo Mama, and you were wrong on all fronts. And we're going to sit here and we'll be like, God bless it. See? Surprised. Strike one, strike two, strike three. Just everyone. And Ryan bought two of them already. Turbo got one. It is. All right. Let's go on. Moving on. Okay. Moving on. Let's get some energy here, guys. Okay. So everyone's got a little bit of personal pinball stuff they did this week, something cool. Lots of pinball. Yeah. Just lots of cool things. We've been playing a lot more pinball this week, which is kind of neat. So what did you do this week, Ian, in pinball land? So, Drew, what did I do? Lots of pinball, man. See, one of the biggest things, and I think I've even talked to Zach many about this is like you put so much effort into the podcast what you're going to talk about you do the research uh it takes a lot to get this thing going you do show notes finally you haven't done show notes in a while but you do some show notes you edit edit edit and you you know put out a product and before you know you got to do it all over again and then by the end of the week you realize oh wait i got a stream with ryan the week goes quick boom you haven't played any pinball you played you know what you played on the stream which is cool and i love it but that's like the only pinball i've been playing lately and it's been driving me nuts so so yeah we went we went pinball centric this weekend buddy i put some hours on some games so it was it was nice to get some games in so we played let's see friday night we went out to up down in milwaukee and we played played a few games attack from mars we played twilight zone i think i played everything but It's not Twilight Zone. Adam's family. We played everything but South Park, I think. Yes. WWF. WWF. Can we talk about WWF? Yeah, go ahead. WWE. Yeah, WWE. Entertainment, not Federation. It's a Federation to me. It'll always be the Federation. Anyone who says different is wrong. Anyone under 30. It was the Federation. It'll always be the goddamn Federation. It's also the same acronym for what was it? The World Wildlife Foundation? Sorry. Go ahead. my wrestlers can beat up that panda it doesn't matter yeah federation anyway so what what do you think about wwe fuck that flipper gap man yeah other than that they put more shit in that game than most certain games i liked it i had a lot of fun with that i was surprised because yeah i never really looked at it never played it never saw one in the wild and got all the hate obviously and when i played it i said this isn't the worst piece of crap of all time ryan i think has a different i disagree with both of you it is the worst piece of crap of all time i can't disagree with my flipper gap though that's the bitch of it the game sucks with the flipper gap there are worse games than that i'm not saying it's the worst game ever um but there's a reason no one likes it it's just as we were talking you can you can literally get a brand new le for six grand now i think they're still sitting on probably 5500 i mean you look at the game it looks awesome the ring is a very cool idea with the flippers with the slings and everything but it's just it's just not fun i know i mean i had fun with it but that's all that's all well you were drinking i was fucked up off the turnbuckle off the rope he's like ian you're not even pressing start you gotta start the game first. Shit. Ian's putting the elbow down on the glass. Wait, what's going on? Dude, that's Attack from Mars. You're playing, no, next game over. It's another example of a good location game from Stern. I'm sure people get off to that game and they have a blast with it. Yeah, for sure. You put that next to all the other stuff. The pop culture stuff. Yeah. It's going to draw people in. So, anyway, Ghostbusters Tron, we played all sorts of games there. It was a lot of fun. We were out pretty late. I think We almost closed that place down. Yeah, that was a long night. If anyone had two pizzas, we would have definitely closed them. And that was Drew, me, myself, Ryan Kuyper, and our new best friend, Josh. So Josh out there, if you're listening, we love you, buddy. So thanks for an awesome night. It was fun. Yeah, so we did that. Monday I had a wedding to go to. And in between the ceremony and the reception, there is a nice little pinball arcade that we went to, my wife and I. So that was round one. So we played a lot of pro, stern pros there. But I got one game in because it was an epic game of Guardians. And I hit about $250 million, which is damn good for a guy who's only played that game like three times. So I was feeling pretty good. I couldn't miss. Ian texted me shortly after that. He was really excited. I'm happy for him. Yeah, then I won a free game, obviously, because it was over $90 million. So I'm playing the second game. And I did another $150 million game. I was like, is this game easy? Oh, am I just so good. Dude, you were dialed in. So I just wanted to say I was so good. My wife, on the other hand, blew my entire cash on a card, you know, the power card. She was out there playing those claw games. It was like a casino for her. She's like running around. Yeah, Laura, she goes, oh, man, I almost won the cat stuffed taco. What the fuck is this cat stuffed taco? Yeah, what's a taco? It's a giant pillow. But it like yeah it was a giant claw game And I was like dude Then she run off And then come back She like man pinball hard And she run off come back She be like oh man I almost won this other like it was another like it was a cat burger It was like another stuffed animal burger thing. Wait, they have a taco cat and a burger cat? They do. They do. That's weird to you, Drew? Yes. Yeah, well, all these machines are, like, state-of-the-art Japanese. No, I know. Even the shit inside is Japanese. I found out recently that place is owned by, like, a Japanese company. So I'm like, oh, shit. And then she, you know, I'm still playing, you know, and then she comes back. She's like, oh, shit, you're out of cash. No money on the card. I was like, all right, I got to wrap up this game. That place is designed, like Dave and Buster's, to just get people into gambling. I mean, it was just crazy. You watch these kids light up, and they're just, yeah, swipe, swipe, swipe. Man, that money goes so fast there. Yeah, that was my wife, not just kids. It wasn't his daughter. It was his wife. It was my wife. Sunday I devoted it to her and then Monday night we had Drew's birthday and we found a bar that actually had more pinball this is a new bar to us brand new bar right across the street right where the Bucks Arena is for those of you who don't know they just made an entire beautiful Bucks Arena brand new they spent what 1.5 billion it's beautiful what they ended up doing was they have a nice little square, you know, just a nice little open space. And then they surrounded it with more bars and restaurants. Well, one of these bars is a bowling alley. Long story short, they had an arcade. And in that arcade were pinball machines set to $1.50 a play, which sucked. Because they were just so weird. $1.50. And it was such a weird lineup because it was Wheel of Fortune. It was Deadpool. It was Star Wars. Star Wars, Munsters. and my Guardians from the Guardians again. But here's the weirdest part, Ryan. I was just about to say, get to that. And they were all pro. Yeah. The Munsters, the Guardians, the Star Wars, the sound was completely turned off. It was so weird. Did you ever play a pinball game with no sound effects? Yeah, that's weird. That's weird, but did you say Wheel of Fortune? Yes. For $1.50. Guess what Drew played mostly. Well, I've never played Wheel of Fortune. You've never played Eric's? No. He didn't have it there, did he? In the other room, maybe? Oh, maybe it was gone. Okay. No, it was one of those games that I just never had played. Oh, it's very unique. It is very unique, so I was like, I've got to play it. It's not $1.50 unique. $1.50? What a weird denomination to get out of people. Yeah, well, you know what? They have to pay for that $1.5 billion arena somehow. Yeah. $1.50? Well, no, I was talking to one of the bartenders. It's called the Punch Bowl. Apparently, that's a chain. They're all over the place. Sure. I mean, it's kind of like upscale. Yeah. It was very chaney. It was expensive as fuck. But whatever, man. I played some more Guardians. Got another, whatever, $120 million. I couldn't stop. I got another free game. Kept playing. All I needed was $1.50, Ryan. That's all you need. $1.50. Yeah, we spent $20 there. We played two games. It was great. I'm so fucking good at what I do. I don't just talk about it, guys. I play it. I live it. No, I'm proud of you, brother. I mean, you know, we're always kind of joking about how we're not good at pinball, and we're not, but we're getting better, and that's what's important. I have, like, weird stretches. I was just on a roll, brother. I was just on a roll. Friday night. Super accurate. Friday night, we all get together to play pinball at UpDown. Here's Ian. Yeah, I'm not that good, guys. Blah, blah, blah. And he won. We know I'm not that good. He won three-quarters of the games. You've seen the same people. Yeah, I've seen you dominate. The same people are awful. He dominated all of us. I kicked some serious ass at Up Down. I think Drew beat me once. I know Josh beat me once. But the day was mine. It was. The weekend was yours. Yeah, it's definitely going down, though, I'm sure. Oh, and then we played Oktoberfest, and we played – oh, you played some Walking Dead. Walking Dead, yeah. Yeah, the Oktoberfest was set up beautifully, except for the scoop. Dude, the scoop. The dribble scoop. That scoop, and I kept hitting it over. There was a time, and Drew can attest to this, I hit that fucker six times in a row. I couldn't stop laughing because he kept hitting it. It kept dribbling out, and he had to shake the machine violently so it wouldn't go down the middle. Yeah, the problem with that fucker, it was like playing Russian roulette. It was awful. Because that scoop literally just dribbled out just ever so slightly straight down the middle every fucking time. It has to be just a switch adjustment or whatever. Yeah, they just need to pump up the power a bit. I had to do it with Monster Bash over here because they did the same thing. It just dribbled out. Yeah, the game was playing fine. Everything was there. Flipper strength was great. The music could have been louder. Yeah, I could turn it up a little bit. There was no music to it. But I was German for the day, man. I felt good. That was a good game. Nice. I felt good. Drew kicked my ass, though, I think, both games. Drew, you put up a pretty good score. I did. I don't remember what it was. A couple hundred thousand. I don't know. It was pretty good. I mean, I put about 10 games on that on Oktoberfest. Yeah, it was pretty fun. It was pretty fun. It was a fun game. So that's what I did, man. I was pinballing it up. That's cool, man. I felt like it was part of me again. That's why I keep telling you, you've got to play more pinball. Yeah, well, I've got to, you know, monster bash and a baby. It's hard. Hold the baby in one hand, play monster bash with the other. Didn't we go out last weekend, too? We didn't talk about that. We went to a couple bars. Oh, yeah, we did. The Indiana Jones versus the Indiana Jones. Oh, yes. Oh, we never got into Indiana Jones. No, he didn't. Can I get into that real quick? Sure. People out there in Radioland, I would like to know your opinion on Stern's Indiana Jones. Because when we look at it, it looks pretty barren, right? There's not a lot to that game. However, their main toy there, that Ark of the Covenant, is pretty fucking cool when it opens up and all the balls spill out. And there is quite a bit to shoot for. But the problem is everyone compares it to the Williams game, myself included. I think that is the biggest downfall, yes. And if you put them next to each other, you almost want to cry because it's like, this is what we're living in this modern world now where Stern doesn't sell 20,000 machines, like Bailey Williams did. So they are only selling 4,000, 5,000, maybe 10. The question is, yeah, if the first Indiana Jones was never made, Stern's might have been received a little bit better. Well, if you're going to redo a theme that's been done, you better... Do it better, right? Well, either do it as good or better. You can't make it worse. No, that's true. Are you listening, Jersey Jack? You got Guns N' Roses coming. No, that's... And Guns... Hey. If Eric's doing it, he's going to kill it. We love you, Eric. I hope you're listening now. People love that Data East Guns N' Roses on Wisconsin. I mean, that thing is... That thing's still selling for like six, seven grand. It has been for quite a while, so... Oh, the Data East Guns N' Roses? Yeah. They were talking about it at what, Head to Head? Yeah. They were talking about it? That one, I've only put a couple games on it. It's a Data East, but it's pretty good. The Data East had their charm. For me, it's kind of a nostalgic thing. It's just, you remember playing The Simpsons, which I mean now is... Star Wars. Star Wars. Turtles. Nah. But I mean, Batman. I always felt like Data East nailed the artwork on the cabinet, and then just, like, screw the pooch on every playfield. You know what I'm saying? Like, I'd love those cabinets. Those cabinets are iconic to me, the cabs. You know, you walk up to it. Tales from the Crypt is okay. No. Well, some of them, but the hand drawings sometimes are just sausage fingers. I'm just going to say that. Yeah. Yeah, I was just about to say that. Whatever artist could not draw hands, they should have put mittens on every fucking guy on Day of the East Games. It's cold at Jurassic Park. He's wearing mittens. Yeah. Oh, Arnold's sitting there at Last Action Hero. Arnold's swinging in with his mittens. With his mitten hands. are you listening data east oh man i could have fixed everything for you brother all right so all right all right let's move past it well stern star or stern indiana jones yeah let us know thumbs up or thumbs down drew i'm a thumbs up it's a it's a cool game brian two down can i do oh wow i'm a thumbs down definitely not two but i'm definitely a thumbs down but um that chest opening up is really cool it is a cool toy i mean i'll tell you and and that that ramp that goes all the way around yeah yeah it's pretty cool the problem is those those other mechs are very spaced out apart they're just too far apart it's just weird i don't know there's not the flow is kind of weird on it but yeah anyway all right moving on moving on moving on ian's drinking ian's pointing at things ian's getting animated uh real quick so last week uh i streamed with Ryan. It was Ryan and I, and we did Lord of the Rings. I saw a little bit of it. And I'm just going to pat myself on the back and say it. I destroyed the effing ring. You did. He killed it. It was literally the, to date, it was the best pinball moment I've had playing a game. I was so excited. Ryan was jumping up and down. I was excited. Yeah, that was the funny thing. He was all cool, calm, and collected. I'm like sweating and jumping and high-fiving him. I'm like, oh my God, you're not my guy. And he's like, calm down, Spaz. You guys can watch the stream. Go ahead and check it out. It's a good one. But I have to say this. Please do. TurboGrafx-7. TurboGrafx-7 on Twitch. And then look at the Lord of the Rings stream they just did last week. But look at that and support the channel. You've got to go there every Thursday. I'm sick of not seeing some of your faces. So get on chat and talk to me, all right? But Ryan is a good coach. I'm playing the game, and he's explaining everything and telling me what I need to do. and I just couldn't miss that day. It's one of those things where it's easier to learn it while you're doing it. Yes, I'm that way. And the thing is, in retrospect, one thing I forgot to even tell you is once you do all the modes, then you get to do there and back again. That's another thing. We didn't talk about that. Somebody was talking about it on one of the podcasts this week and I was like, oh yeah, we didn't talk about that? It was like one major thing I left out. I could have been close to that, right? You probably were. You were playing for a long time. Over 30 minutes, I think, because that game was quite a while. You really explored the game very well. Ryan and I were texting afterwards, and we were both being very supportive of Drew, but at the same time, he always keeps flirting with our grand champion scores on our games. Like, Drew's a good player, and if I put him up against anybody, he's just accurate. He's a very accurate shooter when he plays pinball, and it's so fucking frustrating to watch. I'll be sitting here at the table after a podcast, right, and I'll be editing a bit. My head's in the computer, and then all of a sudden my ears will perk up because I hear, ready for Monsters of Rock, and I'll stare at, fuck you. Get off my machine. Stop putting up stupid scores. So right now Monster Bash literally has Grand Champion Ian and then all the other scores are true, true, true, true, true, true, true, true, true, true. And I hate it. And Ryan was saying the same thing. He said, he almost got grand champion on. Yeah. Dude, I thought you had it. Like, you were on such a tear. And the thing is, what was crazy, like, you were, like, just cool as a cucumber, just going. You weren't, like, like I said, I was one spaz and not like, oh, my gosh, dude, you did this. You did this. You gotta do this next. Oh, my gosh. I had so much fun with it and I always do I play a lot of pinball I play a few games a day if I can help it almost every day I play at home not to say I'm good or anything but I just have so much fun with it maybe that's why I'm calmer I play a lot and I enjoy it so much it just makes me smile on the inside as well I feel like when you get to that game Destroy the Ring comes up for me, I can only speak for myself Heart starts racing like, oh, geez, here we go, here we go. It's like the same four shots we're hitting all game, but all of a sudden now you can't make them. You brick everything. Yeah. Brickasaurus Rex. Yeah, I had that one with Metallica a few times. Gets me every time. Yeah, I definitely get that. All right, cool. We have something special for you guys today. It's another Ian game. I came up with another game. Oh, no. We share notes, but a lot of times it'll just say in the note, like, Ian's game, because I don't know what he's doing. and it'll say Drew Surprise. I don't know. If you guys ever saw our notes, you'd be like, yeah, these guys really are idiots. I mean, it's just... Who listens to this? Oh, man. It's the dumbest shit. Thank you to you 30 who do. We love you. The original 14 have grown to the original 30. We're a wave of them. Yeah, no, I make jokes. We got a lot of good fans out there, a lot of good listeners. Thank you, guys. So I'm just mixing up my hat here. I got all these little pieces of paper and a hat. Yeah, this is right. This is an Ian game. I'm going to say that one more time just so everyone knows. This is Ian's game. Not Ryan's. Not Drew's. This is Ian's game. All right, Ian. Post Ian. Credit Ian. Could you cue the music, please? Oh, you got actual music? Oh, we got music. All right, so this game is called Review or Not a Review. Perfect. I love it Is there a shorter way of saying that? Review wise Here we go So what I did is I pulled all of our different Places where our podcast is hosted And I wrote down all the reviews Oh this is going to be fun This is going to be good But I also made up a bunch of reviews And I also took some reviews From some other podcasts And we're going to go one by one, and you're going to determine if this is a poor man's pinball podcast review or other. We'll just say other. This sounds like an awesome game, by the way. High five to you. Thank you. Nobody does this. Here we go. Cue the applause, sir. So, the first review. Here it goes. So funny. Good job, Ryan. Cool. We're stealing your reviews. Thanks, special and late. All right. Review number three. And if you want Ian to make a game for you, just email us at poormanspinball at gmail.com, and we'll come up with a game for you. The Pinball Podcast has no backbone. Waste of time. One star. Ooh. Wow. It's like reading mean tweets. You know what? Drew, is that a real review? No, Ryan, you go first. Oh, man. I'm going to say not real I honestly don't care if it's real or not I want it to be real so I'm going to say it's real it is not real that was not us guys that was somebody else? maybe just say yes or no I'm going to go maybe alright here we go this podcast is like hanging out with your buds talking pinball and getting hammered Good Times, five stars. Not the brightest guys in the hobby, but I really like listening to them. LOL. Seriously, though. They have a likable quality. Love them. Love the show. Five stars. Real or not real, Ryan? I'm going to say real. Drew? That one is real. That's my favorite one. That is real. He's so honest, and you can tell. All right. Here we go. Sometimes Drew gets a little too drunk and says too much. But we love him anyways. Amazing. Now this is a podcast. Real or not real, Drew? that's not real Ian couldn't think of anything better so he wrote just as few words as possible Ryan I'm going to say not real yeah that's definitely not real did you make that one up Ian? just now actually I knew it I even wrote Anakin at the end because he goes this is pod racing it's so stupid I'm just going to stick with booze alright just boring plain and simple one star drew real or not real i believe i saw that one that one's real right i'm gonna say not real that is totally real one star who wrote that thank you that guy or girl yeah i should say uh hold on just boring plain and simple one star i didn't even write it down You know, whoever that is, we're really sorry. Yeah, sorry. You're welcome. We'll try to entertain you better next time with this free podcast. All right, last one, last one. Only a few episodes in. Sorry, only a few episodes in. It's the best pinball podcast out there. Five stars. You are exits. Real or not real, Ryan? Real. That's the real deal, baby. Not real. Oh. Well, just looking, eyeing this up here. Ryan, commanding lead here. One, two, three, four, five, six rights to Drew's three right? Can that be right? No. Yeah, it is. I want to feel, I want to feel what love is. I know, I know you can't show me. 6-3. Ryan, you win. Way to go, Ryan. Round of applause. I don't mean to brag, but I know the guts. You're the best 50-50 guesser I've ever met. Send your reviews in. You know, it would have been funnier if there was more negative ones, but people tend to like us. Yeah, it is a good thing. And that one guy, I bet you he still listens. I'd like to think he's still listening. He's hoping that it gets less boring. Or more. Or more boring. How can this get any more boring? All right. Here we go, guys. What else we got on the back of there, Drew? Well, we're... We got time. We got time. I know. We're doing great. Let's keep it going. So what we have is... Big Lebowski. Big Lebowski. Should we talk big? We need to talk a little bit about TBL. I feel like we need to. I do. There's been so much going on with it. And I want to hear your guys' opinion on this whole ethical debate. Oh, man. Right? Oh, the ethics behind it. Because it's, yeah. Owning a pinball machine that somebody else paid for, but then you also paid for it, right? Yes. And it sounds to me like, you know, the people who put in their money specifically with Dutch Pinball, they're the ones that got hosed. Because they gave their money directly to Dutch. That money's gone. and, you know, Cointaker has the money in escrow, which, you know, as we all know, it means it's sitting in an account and can't be touched until it's used for whatever it's supposed to be used for. So, you know, once again, I'm going to say to all these people, like, you know, don't buy an unproven product. Let's be honest. Some of these companies that have just started like that, I know they made a game before or whatever, but... Dutch made a game before? Well, they made the Bride of Pinball 2.0. So they're an established company. I just learned that, too, like a week ago. You've got to remember, too, though, that – That review was right. I know very little about pinball. This is why we have Ryan on. Thank you, Ryan. Thanks for saving our ass so many times. Here's the thing. I mean, you can say that, and hindsight's 20-20, but Dutch and Alien and Zidware, J-Pop, is kind of all at the same time what caused people to get screwed. Yeah, but my point is it's a very expensive Kickstarter. It's not for the Lebowski, though. Because, like I said, they're already an existing company. I'll reel myself back in just a little bit. It's not a great analogy, but you guys understand where I'm coming from. You're investing a lot of money in something that might not work out, and guess what? It didn't work out. I'm not saying that to defend the companies. I'm just trying to be factual about the timing of how it all happened. That wasn't something that people would have thought of because it never happened. But now that it has, do you think that's going to change people, what they're doing? Absolutely. I think it already has. Yeah. Okay. But people are nowhere near as willing to throw money at an upstart company. Like all these new companies popping up. And that's why Deep Root is like, we're not taking any of your money because they know no one will give them any. Can we give a round of applause to guys like Suncoast or Great Lakes that have not asked for any money? Yeah, Deep Root, all of them. Well, we knew Deep Root had tons of money to fall back on. That's just a rich guy playing with rich guy money. But still, he has not asked for money. And that's a great thing. What about the fear of missing out, the FOMO of it? because a lot of these companies, they say, hey, yeah, we're going to make this game. We're going to make 500 of them, 1,000 of them, whatever it is. And there's a lot of collectors out there that are like, I want this game. I have to have this game. But since all these companies have collapsed, I think people are – So you think they'll smarten up. As of right now, yeah, I think people are way more – God-shy. But there will still be people that are going to do it though. Maybe. Yeah. I mean people will do crazy things. That's my point. Yeah, but not on the scale as before. Yeah, they won't get 100 people or 200 people that say, hey, I'm going to give you $8,000 and hope that you get a machine. Especially now because there's more machines to buy. The average person can't afford to lose that kind of money. Yeah, but a lot of the pinball buyers can. Maybe a lot is kind of strong, but nobody wants to lose that. Nobody wants to, but it's subjective what you can afford to lose. Yeah, I mean – It's a lot of money. I mean, there's no two ways about it. Yeah. But if you're one of these guys that has 50 games or 100 games and – That doesn't mean you're rich, though. I mean, people buy cheap games cheap and fix them up and this and that. That's true. That's true. I don't know. Okay. Edit, edit, edit. No, it's fine. But here, let's phrase it this way, Drew, for the audience, because it's a little choppy here. Drew, if you had 12-5 sitting in your bank account right now and Cointaker called you up and said, hey, do you want a big Lebowski, what would you say? I would say no, just because I wouldn't spend that much on any one game. Okay. But no, it's sitting there. It's 12-5. It's there for that game. All right, let's rephrase it. Cointake says, Drew, I want to give you a Big Lebowski. No, let's go back to buying it. If I had a chance to buy one, I probably would, and then I would just resell it to make the money. Honestly. Okay. Ryan? And I really want a Big Lebowski. So the ethics part of it doesn't apply. You're fine. You're like, fuck it, I'm buying it. Okay. Ryan, are you a dick? No, I'm joking. I'm joking. As a matter of fact. I'm joking. No, for me, the ethics does come into play a little bit. Both Lebowski and Alien are two. Both the situations are just toxic messes I want nothing to do with. I have played both. I think they're both great games. I think Lebowski is way, way, way better. But that doesn't mean I'm going to spend $12,500 on it. I say money is not an issue. That's the whole thing. If money's not an issue, if it came down to you owning a game that somebody else lost money on, would you do it? I guess that's the question. That's probably a better way of wording it. Yeah. Because I would say, for me, I want nothing to do with it. Okay. Both situations to me, like I said, it's just so toxic. It's that negativity I don't want to be a part of. There is a lot. And I had this thought earlier, actually. If I could get my hands on one and contact somebody who had it, that would be cool. to be like, hey, I have this game. Give me $13,000 or whatever, and it's yours. My answer is I'm an asshole. I would take a big Lebowski. My topper would be a photo album of all the early achievers that didn't get a game. And I would show everybody, look at these guys. I got this. Here's the thing. I kid. I'm joking. But you can send all your hate mail over at Pormanspinball at gmail.com. Pormanspinball at gmail.com. Attention, Ian, you are scum. Yeah, but here's – I'll read each one on the line. Here's the reality of it. Yeah, there is some ethical dilemmas, and no, I wouldn't – you're right. It is a toxic situation, but somebody's going to buy it. Well, that's the thing. And let me also add, I'm not going to hold it against someone else for buying it. That's just my personal thing. I don't want to be a part of that. And quite honestly, the other part too – You're saying my topper idea was the bad part of it? Like, it's okay if I had one? Yeah. That might have been gas in the fire. Yeah, that's cool. We need a little gas in the fire. You know, getting parts and stuff, I know they've done pretty well, you know, making alien parts and getting that together, but, you know, we don't know where all these parts are. Back to what you said before, like, those games are being sold regardless. Oh, someone's going to pick them up. Well, I mean, it's not like people had to, like, do some unethical thing to get them. They were being sold as is. You mean Cointaker didn't receive a bunch of BJs to get there? You're my boy, Cointaker. It's kind of like a foreclosed house in a way. That's probably the way to put it. Well, and auction is what I'm saying. If a house goes up for auction, it's like you buy it, you got it. A terrible event led to the sale. Yeah, but you don't know these people, and that's a bad way to say it, but you know what I mean. It's just like – Yeah, that's the thing. It's just not good. Every podcaster has talked about this, but the fact that if you're buying one of those things that's been in the shipping container or sitting on the floor for the last how many – A couple of years, really, yeah. Because it's been at least a year, right? Yeah, it's been a while. Yeah, so to think that there was going to be nothing wrong with them, even if Cointaker goes through them or Barry said he was going to go through them. Yeah, he was going to open them up. And that was what I said. Well, forget that. Yeah, it gets shipped. And if there's a problem, now what? I saw a very smart post on Pinside about it. Just the fact that people, and podcasters are even saying this too, like, well, look at how the community can come together for Alien and get all these different parts. Well, I can't remember who posted this on Pinside, but it made sense to me. They're like, okay, how many Aliens are out there in a while? A few hundred, right? I mean, we're talking about like maybe 60 big Lebowskis, you know, maybe at most. So it's not a big community that's going to be supporting the Big Lebowski. You know what I'm saying? No, because a few people are going to have to either have a lot of money, have a lot of knowledge, be able to 3D print parts, whatever it is. I'm just saying. And out of 60 people, it's going to be tough. These games better go to the right 60 people that have that initiative to make parts for this fucking thing. Well, they will. I mean, they're going to want to, obviously. Yeah, but you hope. You hope. You hope. I don't know, man. I don't know. It's just different. It's just different. You know, it's just a different scenario. Alien's different. Which is really the reason I would stay away from that. Yeah. That's the only reason I'd probably stay away for. No, you know what? I'd still get it. Fuck them. Fuck them. I'd get an alien. I'd put the alien on top of the big Lebowski. I'd get a step stool. As a topper. No, I'd have a step stool. Yeah. I'll play one and then I'll jump up to the second level, play the other and not care about anybody else on Pinside crying about it, because that's going to be me. But, you know, once again, to those people, I do feel bad, but yeah, I mean, it's just... Don't feel bad, it's Involve. No, they got burned. Yeah, they got burned pretty bad. Like I said, there was no reason to think otherwise. I mean, it... Just a side note, Ian's the only one here drinking, so just to put this in perspective, of fuck these guys who cares it a pinball machine we got aliens and shit big lebowski Who making those rugs They so little Who the fuck is making those rugs Well, no. It's one big rug, and they cut it up. That's really smart, actually. They just made one rug, and they made all. Baron Yap, forget all the negative things I've ever said about you losers. All right. Hope you feel better, Yap. Oh, yeah. Get better. Get well soon. Get well soon. So are we good with that? I mean, it's just... How about Alien? Jack Danger streamed Alien. Did you see that stream by chance? No, I did not. Did you see it, anybody? God, it's a beautiful machine. He broke it twice, though, while playing. Oh, really? Yeah, they had to fix it. But yeah, dude, that... It's not a well-functioning machine. Yeah, but you know what? There's some things there that I wish that other machines, other companies would adopt, like that LCD screen right between the flippers. That's a beautiful thing. You're looking down at the field. Why isn't there an LCD screen? Did you play their first game? Full Throttle? Full Throttle. Yeah, I have not. Who made Wrath of Olympus? That wasn't him? No. Okay. No. Highway Pinball made Full Throttle and Alien, and that was it. Okay. No, I didn't play Full Throttle. Full Throttle had the same, you know, that was, it's kind of like their trademark deal was going to have the screens in the play field and stuff. I liked it, though. I liked it better than J-Pop's backbox, or the back screen. Back screen. Yeah, I don't know what to call it. Screen in the backboard. Backboard screen. big screen in the back it has potential um but you know the whole thing it's just like i said it's another toxic situation where people got burned well that one though what if what if another manufacturer does pick it up like they keep talking about drinking them american pinball releases the big lebowski and alien no both But people still got burned. I mean, that's the thing. No, I understand that. But if another manufacturer... Steph said they helped out all the early achievers, let's say. Just like a la... Deep Root? Mm-hmm. The Zedware thing? I mean... Stop talking because I had my brain shut off for a second. But yeah, a la them. How many early achievers are there? That I don't know. I mean, is it like 100 people? I think it's not a small number. Okay. All right. It's a small picture book. But it'll be a good tapper. So their only hope is that the big Lebowski gets, after they get this money, that they can somehow start making more games. No, I know. It's a big hope. I don't have much faith in that. Because that was the other thing. No one knows how much they owe ARA. I know we were talking about Alien, but, you know. So anyways, toxic all around. We'll just say, situation, not good. No, no. At the end of the day, if you want to be Charlie, go fuck yourself. Boom. There you go. There's your Wonka reference, kids. Yeah, we haven't mentioned Wonka once. There you go. Moving on. Moving on. We're almost ready to wrap it up here, but we do have our traditional mailbag. Mailbag? Mailbag? Mailbag. Mailbag slash community corner. Community corner? Yeah. Well, here's why. Because we do mailbag. We don't get a lot of actual mail. No, not at any. Nobody emails us. But what, poormanspinball at gmail.com. But what we do get, we get, you know, cool Facebook comments and Facebook messages throughout the week. We meet people in person. You know, we do all this cool stuff now. Pinball Nerds, Orbital Albert, episode number 223. Give it a listen. What a nice guy. This guy. He's awesome. did a top five reasons the poor man's pinball podcast is the most entertaining podcast out there albert we are humbled by that brought a tear to my eye i was driving and i was literally a little choked up did you pull over it was very no no i did not pull out wait what did you ask oh pull over no i didn't pull over i'm still a guy i'm still a dude I'm not going to cry over a podcast. I'm not going to cry over Albert. I love you, Albert, but fuck. But no, it was very sweet, though. It is. Very nice. It was like 20 minutes, and he ran down the reasons. He goes, yeah, we're not the most knowledgeable. We're not this and that, but we're entertaining. And he laughs every time that he listens to us. So Albert, we're glad that we can keep entertaining you. And if you are our only listener, we will keep doing this just so we can entertain you. Oh, that was a sweet little thing. Good job. Thank you so much. Thank you so much, Albert. And the thing is, Albert, not just because of that, but I've been listening to more of yours. I mean, you put out a lot of content, so it's hard for me to keep up just because I'm so busy during the week. But I like how yours are short, you know, 15, 20 minutes. So I listen to it as much as I can. I really enjoy it. Yeah, he just oozes. Oh, he loves him. Himba love. Yeah, he talks so much about the people. And that was the other thing I just wanted to touch on before we leave, that when I got into this hobby, I just loved playing the games. I was happy to have games in my house. I was excited. I was like, yeah, this is better than arcades. This is so cool. And then, as we all know, it's fun to play, but then you're by yourself and you're playing, and you're like, eh, it's okay. It's cool, and I'm still enjoying it, and I still push that start button. But I didn't believe people when they said, oh, you're going to meet all these cool people and whatever. Now I have, and Ryan Kuyper is a testament to that because we met him only because of pinball. And now we're friends and we're hanging out outside of this. And then he introduced us to some people and some podcasters we've been chatting with and talking to, and we're going to meet some at Expo. So I just wanted to say I love the pinball community, and it's been awesome for me. He said you sounded like Kevin Nealon. You think that's true? No, I don't know. When he said that, when I heard, oh, he sounds like somebody, and I was waiting for it, and then when he said that, I was like, weird. Weird. I don't know, Albert. You know, and I forgot about that until this moment. I should have probably put in some Kevin Nealon quotes or something. If I sound like Kevin Nealon, let me know at poormanspinball at gmail.com or, you know. Yeah, yeah. And you know what? And this is Weekend Update. For those of you in the pinball media or designers or developers or you work for a company, I was really drunk on Friday. I think I friended like 20 people. Oh, man. So, George Gomez, thanks for being my friend. Same thing with you, Jersey Jack. I appreciate that. And there's about 30 others. There's a lot of pending requests out there. I was so drunk. I was like, I'm going to be friends with everybody. Oh, tell them. Marty, Ryan C. has not responded yet. Ryan C. will not be my friend, but he's Drew's friend. Come on, Ryan C. Yeah, that was pretty good. Thank you. Marty responded and told him that he likes what we're doing and listening, too, so that was kind of nice. Oh, yeah, Martin and I were chatting a bit, and Martin is still a huge fan of Head to Head. Oh, love it. Still one of the best. Love it. So, you know, once again, this great community, we come together. It was Ryan's birthday on Friday or Saturday? When was your actual birthday? July 7th. What day was that? It was Sunday. Oh, okay. Two Sundays ago. Well, anyway, so we celebrated this past weekend, though. And then my birthday was on Monday. Ian's birthday is not until next month, but... August, bitches. We're getting together. We are getting together. So, anyways, what I did today was I decided to get these guys a little something that they have no idea. We got presents. Wait, it's your birthday and you're giving us presents? That's how we do it at the Poor Man's Pinball Podcast. I took a note from Orbital Albert, because this is something Orbital Albert would do. He'd give someone a gift on his birthday. All right, let's do it. I don't even know what to say. Drew taped the shit out of these. He did. Well, I didn't wrap them, that's for damn sure. All right, so I'll just set the scene here. These are two, like, Priority Mail Amazon boxes that are taped to shit. No way! He's wearing it. He pulled it in. Nice. Awesome. Ladies and gentlemen, we have poor man's t-shirts. More poor man's pinball t-shirts. This one has our logo on it. Very cool. Thanks, Drew. Appreciate it, brother. No problem, guys. I thought you guys would enjoy those. I kind of dig the colors. I think it looks pretty good. And it's the right shirts, those nice shirts. Yes, I got the super comfort cotton whatever they call it. The ones that Special and Lit had that I ripped off. Yes. Yeah. I think those, yeah, they're similar or the same as those. Awesome. Thank you. So enjoy, guys. Happy birthday to everybody. Thanks, Drew. That's awesome. And Ian gets nothing next month for his birthday. Aw, man. I'll take you out and we'll play some pinball. Hey, that's all I want, man. I'm a simple man. So anyway, no, I really appreciate you guys. I might do it down here in the bar. What do you think? Birthday at the bar? Yeah, let's do it, man. Let's open it up. Let's do it. Josh, you're invited, motherfucker. Yeah, Josh, come on down. You're coming. Albert, we're going to invite you. I know you're a couple miles away, but we're about Albert. Hey, Northern Brothers. Yeah. Different country. Let's get crazy. And Expo's coming up soon, guys, and we're going to get to meet some awesome people, I think. I'm finally going to be able to make out with Ken. That's all I've ever wanted to do. Pinberg's coming up. Yeah, this guy's going to Pinberg, Mr. Ryan Kuyper. First time. Looking forward to it. So there's 1,000 people, right? Where are you looking to place? Last. Dead last. That's the poorest poor man answer I've ever heard in my life. I love it. Last. No, you've got to say, if I don't get last, it was a good day. Oh, I mean, my main reason for going in all actuality is, like you were just saying, to be able to meet everyone in person. I've met nearly everyone in person so far. There's a few I haven't. who do you want to meet in this hobby? Oh, man. You got a top five? We should do that in another episode. I don't know if I want to start putting names out. No, just one person. Just off the top of your head that you haven't met that you'd say, I'd like to meet this person. We will do a top five. That's really good. In person that I haven't actually met in person, but a lot of guys I have talked to, but I think if I was to pick one, Mixer Tuna. Mixer Tuna from Buffalo. Buffalo Pinball, yeah. Cool. Tuna's a cool dude. I like watching that guy on streams. I want to get seriously fucked up with Jack Danger. I bet you he can drink under the table. He does. He ends up sleeping under his pinball table. No, they always talk about that. He's got the height on me. He's got double the height on you. Yeah, he's got double the height on me. However, I'm a proud drinker. Jack Danger, we're coming for you. My liver would be shutting down, and I'd be like, nope, not even drunk yet. so yeah drunk i was gonna say drunk danger but jack danger after watching some of those streams like uh drinking with like bill webb maybe oh yeah bill and ken would be great yeah that was that one stream when they're like where'd bill go oh he left like an hour ago just kind of like that was the best yeah so funny yeah they're like oh he left yeah yeah he's been gone for like an hour ken was like yeah well ken was you could tell he was tore up on that last stream oh my god it was the funniest thing ian can tell you this i used to do that all the time they'd be Like, where's Drew? Nah, he's sleeping. He's just gone. And he's gone. Yeah, he doesn't say anything. He's just really drunk and walks out the door, and he's gone. He's like a ghost, folks. He's like a ghost. But yeah, there's a lot of people I want to meet in this hobby. Like I said, I want to make out with Ken. I want to drink Jack Danger under the table. I don't know if he wants to reciprocate that bad. Eh, whatever. Is that an edit or are we leaving that in? We're going to leave it in. Awesome. I'm drunk. So, yep, I want to make out with Ken. I want to drink Jack Danger under the table, and I want to arm wrestle Jersey Jack. This is a pinball bucket list like no other, folks. So that's what I want. It's simple. I can do it. Yeah, most guys are like, I want to play a big Lebowski. I want to do this. Nope. Ian wants to make out with Ken. The hardest one is arm wrestling Jack, though. The other two is going to come naturally. You hear me, Ken? The bromance is in the air. Oh, I love it. I love it. All right. Well, I think we're going to wrap this episode up, but I appreciate everyone coming out again and listening. This is episode number 17 of the Poor Man's Pinball Podcast. Did we even say that? 17, guys. That is awesome. We're on our way to 20, and we're not slowing down. I can't believe that it's not more. Nope. It feels like such a small number. Well, that's because, you know, it's a weekly thing. It's a grind. And we're going to be doing more streaming with TurboGrafx-7 here. We're going to chop up some fucking wood. Yeah, Thursdays. Thursdays, Thursdays, Thursdays. Usually around 8 o'clock, 7.30, 8 o'clock. 7.30, 8 o'clock. My daughter goes to bed. We are. He is a streaming machine. He is. Check him out. Thursdays. I appreciate that. But there's people working harder than me. Everybody. Almost everybody. Pretty much. But there's people working less hard than you also. But he's a poor man at heart, so we love him to death. Once again, for anyone who doesn't know, we're going to keep saying this for a while. He is officially part of the Poor Man's Pinball Family. He's going to be on our podcast as often as his schedule allows. Family first, and then pinball second. Yes. Except for some weeks, it's pinball first. And then we ask for forgiveness later. Yeah. That's not every week. That's just some weeks. For me, it was last week. It's funny how last week we all played a lot and we all got in trouble. We did. We all had the same conversation with our wives and we're still licking our wounds. Yes. It's not pretty at the home front, folks. And we're here, front lines, telling you what's going on in the pinball world. But once again, appreciate you guys. The music's still cute, I'm sure. Yeah, it's going. It's a long song. Yeah, we just keep talking. That's kind of our thing now, isn't it? We don't know how to end. We just want to keep talking. We do because we love you guys and we love that you guys are listening. Ian loves Ken and life goes on. I love you, Ken. All right, boys. I love you. Have fun out there. Play more pinball. Later. Peace. Outro Music
