Let some people join in, but we are about to take a tour of all the homebrew games. So I got one mic on me, hopefully it picks up just fine. And then I'm going to have another mic for anybody that's at their game. but my anticipation is that this is going to be maybe about a 30 minute stream because I would like to visit a seminar at 11. So, going to go through, check out what everybody's been working on for the last, who knows how long, years, months. All right. Who all we got so far in chat? I just saw you guys. Trash Can Ninja. And Wrangler's Run. Woo. All right. Can you hear me okay? I'm starting to lose my voice already, guys. I don't know them, but I'll make it all the way through tomorrow. It's gonna be crazy Yeah, so we're gonna start on this right here and just work our way around the circle so it first came up is gonna be Tony Hawk's Pro pinball Nick did you win over here now at the if the person that makes the game is here then I'll be sure to talk to him Woo! Yes, yeah. Just footnick.pinball. Okay, awesome. Thank you so much. Here's your microphone. Microphone, all right. Are you streaming right now? Yeah, we're live. Oh, my gosh. Just tell me about your game, man. I'd love to tell you about my game. Okay, so this... You can just hold it up if you want. Oh, can I? All right, cool. Hey, everybody. Welcome to Gary Hardy's Expo Stream. So this is Tony Hawk's Pro Pinball. this is a dream theme of mine it took me a year from start to finish which was not enough time i do not recommend building a game in a year uh but there's a lot going on if you recognize the first level the first game warehouse that's what this is based off of so you have the drop in like you do uh as soon as you start the first level you have your transfer gap uh you have the half pipe right in the middle of the play field as well there's a little bit of tony hawk pro skater 2 sprinkled in there so you can grind over the half pipe you also have to smash the barrels as a as an objective one cool thing this little flipper over here is for the secret tape so if you get these four stand-ups and then shoot up the middle that flipper opens up as a diverter the ball goes behind the warehouse grinds a rail and then hits this secret tape spinner right here that you normally can't get on the outer loop there's also a diverter flipper on the wall ride up there so it's a uh i think it's the only vertical flipper uh i've ever seen in pinball so that was really tough to get working but what happens is you can make the ball come over here grind this rail it drops in jumps off the back of the scoop hits the out lane and then there is a ramp at the bottom here that pops up you have to hold your left flipper up and then the ball will come into uh play so that's that trying to use as much of the play field as i could i was like how do I add play time to the outlanes and that's how I did it. You want to watch me play it poorly or you want to keep moving? You can keep moving. I don't know how much time we've got so I'm just going to keep moving. I'm really basically just giving everybody a chance to show off their games. Awesome, thank you. Moving on to this one, Ghost in the Shell. Is this your game? Yes, it is, sir. Here. Tell me about your game, man. We're on live stream right now. This is Ghost in the Shell. I first completed it in 2018. It's on its second playing field rendition. I've been to a lot of expos, a lot of Midwest Gaming Classic with it. One of my notable features is the ramp on the left is two-way, So you can hit it from the top, comes down and feeds to the right flipper, or you can actually shoot underneath and flips around and comes to the right flipper. So that allows me to see which direction you hit and give you different scores, different rewards. I still need to do one more play field with Final Art and inserts and stuff, but keep bringing it to shows. People keep on enjoying it. Yeah, I want to say the first time I saw this was like 2020, 2021 or something like that. Not this hotel, back in the other hotel I want to say. Yeah, so at the other hotel, I was one of the first people who really got the homebrew going at Expo. Me and Jeremy and Mark and Cindy and a couple other guys that I forget right now. So we've been bringing Ghost in the Shell to Expo every year since then, actually. And it's going to be here next year and maybe some improvements if I get some time. just talked to some guys about back glass art and plastics and playfield. All right, sweet. All right, Ed, thank you very much, man. You're welcome. It's been all year. Here we have Zelda, the legend of Zelda. Now, the makers of the games are here. I'll be sure to love to hear them talk about the games, but if they're not, I'm moving on to the next one but I'll be sure to at least give them a little bit of a spotlight so that way they can have their moment to show off what they have created wearing a tight Zelda shirt right meow here we have Contra Got a little bit of reflections going on. Yeah that one, yeah that does look like a Flash Gordon like the way it used to be. I don't know which of these games have been rethemed and which of them are like customly built. Some of them are just really polished in comparison to others. This one's turned off. I don't feel comfortable turning on homebrew games because they could be off for a reason or the maker could be just not here yet. So, for the guy that created this machine. Definitely a very freaking cool artwork. I love the hell out of that. That's wicked. Kind of reminds me of like a Sin City or something you know That type of thing What the hell is this Well this is kind of cool little tiny thing like this. The ball even comes out at one point to give you a little shell right there. If you are a pinball fan, enthusiast, and you love everything about it, then this is definitely a show to go to You going to see a little bit of everything Now Elf is another game that been to a lot of shows has been going around for a few years now. So a lot of you have probably seen this and played it before. Now this one over here is Jake Danzig's latest creation. Holy shit! Looks very polished. To the point where you wouldn't think that it's a homebrew. Pardon me. Oh, there we go. You got one now. Okay, so it's one to one. Technically, it's one to one. So, once somebody scores, it shuts down and it launches them again. I got it. It's a face-off. Well, this place is pretty dirty. Whoa, nice save on the drop. The drop target goalie is working overtime. I'm gonna fuck you! Nice! She can groove! She can groove! I hate the... Years of, uh, air hockey Gotta fake it I'm... I'm Canadian, so yeah You're a fair candidate Yes, I'm a fair natural advantage This is my book Oh my god! You got so lucky there! You got so lucky! That was like a toe save. Oh god! Come on, Cal! There we go! Oh, just trickles this double round. Alright, moving on over here. Monsters Inc. I almost wore my conch shirt today. Almost? Didn't realize it was Don from Don's Pinball Podcast over here playing Monsters, Inc. My voice is already about gone, dude. Absolutely. I'll be gone in a minute. Mm-hmm. Can you fly it? Yeah. Got something going on down here. What's going on? Yeah. Oh my Lantern! This is full assets I would say it looks like. Yeah this is the Super LE. Make sure you get the legal disclaimer out. If you swing by later, I'll have it on the run. I'm going to switch in, or I'll just have my sling switched again. All right, let me get it all. People are wanting to see this thing up close and personal, man. I'm sorry. I don't want to be too much in your way, man. You want to lighten that up? Yeah, sure. Your game showed up. As a matter of fact, talk about it, man. I don't know. Well, this is my game. I've been working on it. I've been working on it for about three years now. My goal was to kind of create that world under glass Which is why you have the non-standard cabinet You have extra deep playfield set in there I wanted to be able to render a scene behind the Hogwarts castle So like clouds move in You can see Quidditch players flying through the sky That kind of thing And then I wanted to create something different, unique The whole Quidditch playfield is polycarbonate And it's set up with two stepper motors So it'll raise up and down Along with the flipper and the spinner and you'll be able to shoot through the hoops on the quidditch pitch as it raises up and down. The Lomping Willow will be a powered mech, so when the ball gets over there it'll kind of pan it out of the way and mess with it a little bit. And then my other goal is to create the magic, so every single ball path has many different outcomes. No matter where you shoot, it could be different. So I can also grab the ball out of the orbit just about every single shot and drop it into the subway. One of the other things I wanted to do was create the flu network. So I have three vertical up James Piekarz in here. They're all self-staged from a subway system. And then when you shoot one, the intention is that it will immediately eject one out of the other, flash a green light, kind of represent the whole flu network, and create that magic, instantaneous ball transfer. there's a lot that you can do with that as far as starting modes from different areas that kind of stuff it's ridiculous that's the word i'm looking at it it's like wow yeah remember what i saw like the very first like infancy of it i'm like what kind of cabinet is that going to go in now i understand i'm like okay now i see why yeah man let's see what the uh outside of the cabinet looks like. Yep. But yeah, so this is definitely a custom cabinet. There's also a little bit of secrets in the cabinet. There's actually 620 LEDs in the cabinet walls. There's footsteps that will light up and follow the Marauder's Map around the bottom. And then I have 620 custom PCBs that are sandwiched in the walls. They'll create stars on the outside and stars on the inside. They're asking if something moves across this rod right here in the middle. Yeah. Eric, you got a bond here? I don't. I did. I had a pinball. Hold the glass and get a wire right here. Yeah, so, wire form right here. Don't you tell me that thing has got a fucking, oh my god. Do that again. You fucking kidding me? Yep. That's nice! So no matter the speed, it'll generally come down here. I'll have this held down right now. Yeah. Yeah, so that's got neodymium magnets. They're just not an active magnet or anything. And then they're stacked in here from one end to another. The wire form lifts the ball up just enough to grab it. So if it's a super slow roll, there's a chance, but you can shake it and get it moving easily. Yeah. Still, that's damn cool, man. Awesome. Yeah, I'm going to come back to play that. That was wicked. No problem. I got to move a little bit faster, guys. I'm going to end up missing that seminar. Let's see what we got going on over here real quick. Are you streaming? Okay. Hopefully about one. I didn't want to be in anybody's way. was wanting to show off what everybody's been working on. They never are. I'll find a B-Bone, see if she has XLR. Um... Can you show this to the other option? Careful for the... Yeah. This looks like a weird game to play right here. like you had to like have your hands wrapped around it or something Interesting Alright moving on Looks like we have a uh like a kind of a classic you know digital version of pinball right here Spaceballs! The pinball machine. We'll get there. I'm making my way around guys. Like I said I gotta speed up a little bit. So we're gonna get there a little bit faster. I played this one earlier. We can get an overview of how he's done playing. Damn reflection. It's pretty wicked on this machine. Can't get a good shot without getting the back glass in there. We got beer fest. Look at mom! Das Boot! Oh, am I in the way? I'm sorry. Cheers. Oh, wait! Cheers. We have the good old Sonic Spinball. This is what I want to see from JJP right here. Audio in particular. Oh, pardon me. Finally, Cuphead. Just not the one you were expecting. Oh, yeah. I want to say that Super Troopers was being made by somebody. Okay. I played this one earlier, too. This one shoots pretty damn good. It's got a cool ball launch that like launches from one side of the playfield over here to over there. Try not to get in this guy's path so he can see where he goes. because they're rock solid, right? They make them to put out cars. Right. And they're all rock solid. Okay. So I have an old Star Wars on a car. The dot matrix display. Yeah. So I remember Danny used to buy all this. And I was growing up. All right. Now this is like the most clean homebrew I've ever seen. I kid. Alright, move on to the next one. Battle Station. Head to head. This one's been to a couple of shows. ... ... ... here on top. Alright Brian, talk about your game for me. Awesome, this is Battle Stations. You can hold this if you want. I can. This is Battle Stations, it's our custom head to head pinball machine. And what we want to do is make a real simple game, it's about 90 seconds to 120 seconds. And your whole goal is basically blow up the enemy, and you can do that one or two ways. One way is to get the ball between their flippers, and that damages their hull. The second is you can hit their reactor, it takes off reactor energy. So basically if their hole gets to zero or their reactor gets to zero, they explode. You don't want to explode. Exploding is no fun. We also have a couple other things in here. You can hit the target to raise shields on the opposite side to make it harder for the opponent to hit you. And also we've had a couple of really good players just hold the balls of the flipper, and that's never fun. We have an EMP attack in there. If you hold the center button down, they'll charge EMP attack and fire it to the other side, disabling their flippers for a few seconds. So it's a lot of fun. So it's strategic to anticipate what they're going to need that flipper, and you can use that to make it to where they're going to... Yeah, I can see that being... You kind of got to counter their strategy, so it's a little bit of a game of, like, checkers or chess with the other player. What are they doing? Having you counter what they're doing. Like, they're really going to need their flipper right now. So his reactor exploded, so it got to zero. Ah. So, you know, it's a couple different ways to win, which makes a lot of fun. So people just, you know, lobby just play it over and over again, and it's just a fun, quick game. Thank you. This is like a black knight, but it's also not a black knight. I was not looking for a black knight with a display. Great technology. Thank you so much. You made my day. You made my day. Haha. They're all visiting your honor. Have you met Jerry? So, it's kind of like an updated Black Knot it looks like. You got the side lining and everything on it. Is this yours? You want to talk about it for me? Are you able to? Yeah, explain your game to us. What do you got going on here? You can just hold it. So this is a reproduction of a Black Knight, the original Black Knight from the 1980s. The merit of this game is not really the game itself. The merit of the game belongs to Stevie Richie, obviously, and Larry Del Mar. I think that the difference is that I wanted to honor them in the sense that I am a software engineer and a hardware engineer, electronics engineer, and I wanted to create an ecosystem which is very good for homebrewers and people that want to make their own systems. Something that is very easy and economical to use. And I developed a whole system with all electronics based on a Raspberry Pi that essentially connects a Raspberry Pi. It adds a lot of ports to multiply the input-output capabilities of the Raspberry Pi. and also additional boards that you can connect to drive solenoids. And these boards also simplify enormously the task of wiring harness because instead of using a regular wiring harness, you are using flat ribbon cables, and you don't have to crimp every terminal on the cables. you only crimp the connectors using a special tool to crimp connectors So that simplifies the work because also you get with the port expander every port I call them ports you get 8 bits on that ribbon cable plus the ground and power and the ecosystem has electronics that read what's going on, say for the inputs, and you can select on which bit of the 8 bits that you have available, you drop your signal. To select that, you use a dip switch. So all the sensors in the electronics have dip switches, and for instance the drop targets, you can put the bits on the 6, 7, 8, or say on the 1, 2, 3 bits. And and you select what goes in the 8 bits of that particular port. My design has six, in this particular implementation, it has six input ports and two output ports. And the input ports connect... Do you want me to show you the inside of the machine? I've got limited time, man, so if you want to look it up real quick, if you can. So, I'll hold the mic for you if you want to listen up for a quick show, buddy. So, when we want to show this, we may want to show this. This is the controller. The electronics, this is the port. The port goes to the device with a black cable, and it goes to the next device, and it goes to the next device, and that simplifies the wiring enormously. And the output port, you have the solenoid controller port. So you connect the output controller to the solenoid port and that's it. And the wiring is very simple, you should show it. We can really introduce the show. Yeah, you want to look it up? That people appreciate. All the electronics is self-contained here. There's nothing on the bottom. So this is the Raspberry Pi plus the port expander and you can see that each one of the devices has its own selector for the bits. A good example of what happens here is you have the, this is the cable that goes to the cabinet. All the switches are optical. There's no leaf switches in the system. And it's all one cable, but this is the first device, then goes to the next device, then goes to the next device here, and then goes to the next device, and goes to the next device. to the next so it's all daisy chain yes it's a lazy chain but it's an a b bus okay and you have as many points as you need sweet i made everything everything is made from scratch the only things that i purchased are the plastics of the bumper and obviously i cannot make the the lock bar and the door and the legs those things were purchased this is a special plastic i also do a lot of engineer research for people this is a full PVC plastic that has some different properties on the wood that's pretty much it the software you can put another raspberry pi different one you can put a raspberry pi 5 and then you have 4k screens you have two 4k screens and the other characteristics of the system is that it's very expensive it's really really expensive i mean the The control board, this board, it's really just a bunch of three-state buffers, multiplexers, and latches. And these chips are pennies. So, yeah, that's in a short way. Sweet, man. Looks good. Thank you, man. All right, moving on to Mass Effect 2. We are running out of time, ladies and jelly spoons. I think this is Christopher's corner over here. He's currently not here. Then we've got, I think, three more games over here. Beginnings of Coming to America. What's going on, guys? They're showing off everybody's games, what they're working on. I'm just enhancing a Spider-Man, Matt, even though the levels of it, multiball, other flipper, and it's going to be running on the pass system. It's going to be showing all the flips from the 67 Spider-Man. Oh, okay. Sweet. So I'm calling this the Amazing Spider-Man 67. Alright. Alright. Here we have the Invaders. I think this is the last one on the list guys. Went around the full circle of homebrew. Looks pretty damn clean. Press the button. Yeah, it does look like a complete game. I think the topper might use a little bit of illumination up there. It may do it. I don't know. All right. Yeah, I'll have to get over here and play some of it. But I believe that is all the homebrew. I mean, the only homebrew, I guess, is still over here. Come on, Alec. It was the big trouble of Little China. I did show this on previous streams, but I'll show you it again just to include it into the homebrew. While he's working on it, give me a good little pan over at the play field. Been getting a lot of plays? Oh yeah, and it's all dump stuff like my leech squid. Alright guys, I think that... Man, I'm going to have no voice left. Let me turn the camera around. I think that's going to wrap up homebrew. I mean, for those homebrewers that weren't in your tent over there or weren't able to show off your game, my apologies. But I tried. I was there. But kudos to all of you homebrewers out there for putting all the work and effort into this. I don't think there's a lot of us that do not know or understand the difficulty but the passion that's behind what you're doing. I strongly encourage you to keep doing what you're doing. And I encourage those of you that are curious into even dabbling into doing homebrew, reach out to any of these homebrewers. If there's anything that I know about these homebrewers is that they are, one, passionate, obviously. Secondly, they are willing to divulge, like, knowledge onto you to help you out. Like, what's the best board system? What's the best wiring? what's the best whatever and the reason why they have all this knowledge is because they probably already done it wrong before they're like they're like you want to do it this way why because i've tried it all the other ways it's kind of like you but uh yeah i'm walking out of the show for right now see if i can get my voice back but uh there you go guys i'll be on later bye Thank you.
