as once described by betty white hgtv's top street fighter this is the sloppiest pinball podcast this side of the mesa this is of course poor man's pinball podcast starring drew and ian that's it man game over man game over Welcome to the 4 Man Pinball Podcast, episode number 32. The only pinball podcast that multi-passes at the urinal. What you drinking today, buddy? What does that mean, Drew? Drew's back in the saddle again, that's what it means. Giddy up, motherfuckers, giddy up. I am drinking some Winchester bourbon whiskey. How about yourself, man? Winchester bourbon whiskey. All right. I'm doing it on the rocks. What are you doing? A little LaCroix. Oh, wait, no. I did splash some squirt in here. I'd rather prefer the rocks. You splasher. I prefer the rocks, guys. You're such a non-purist. Ugh, woof. Bourbon and squirt, not a good combination, by the way. I don't recommend it. That's why I use LaCroix. It's got my lime flavor that I like. If I don't have limes, then here we go. Poor Man's Pinball Podcast, sponsored by La Croix. La Croix. La Croix. Lime-flavored, naturally sparkling. There's a bunch of other words on there, too. I'm not going to read. Yeah, I will. What the fuck? Ready? Don't do it. Sparkling water lime, naturally essenced. I didn't know essence could be used as a verb. We will be sending our shill bill out to La Croix and their lime. Pay us money for Win Schilling your shit. That's it, man. That's it. All right, man. How you been? I've been great, man. Yeah, busy, busy week? Oh, super busy week at work and just been nutty. Getting your fucking ass kicked? Yep. Mm-hmm. Yep. I heard that. I'm off this week. Oh, you lucky SOB. I still got to get the daughter out to daycare because I still got to pay for that shit, so you better believe she's in daycare. You're like, I'm home? She's not. Yeah, my wife took her off, too. We are spending the fucking week. This is how exciting my life is. I work with a lot of young guys, and they're always like, what are you doing? Where are you going on vacation? Where are you going? I say, I'm not going anywhere, dude. I'm just off. Fucking cleaning my house. That's what I'm doing this week. Isn't that funny? The difference between your 20s and your 30s? It's just... Trust me. I'd rather travel. Sure. But my house is a fucking sty. I have a little girl that has shit everywhere. Gotta get stuff done, man. Oh, yeah. I know. My little girl takes up all my time. Love her to death. But yeah, dude, that's... I wake up. It's V. You know, Vera time. and then I go to bed. It's right when she goes to bed. So fuck it. So we're cleaning the house this week. Exciting stuff. Fucking blows. If you think Ian's life is boring, email us at poormanspinballpodcast. It's the worst. So happy I took vacation. But I'm happy for you, man. I'm actually off the next couple of days. So we'll be sharing a little bit about what I'll be doing shortly here. All right, here we go. Let's do some poorman's pinball podcast personal pinball news. And now, without any further adieu, it's time for the Poor Man's Podcast Personal Pinball News. And I'll send a dollar to anyone that can say that twice fast. I kid. I don't have a dollar to send anybody. Why don't you go first, because mine's long and winded. Are you fucking kidding me? Sure, man. I just wanted to talk a little bit more about Whitewater, because now that I'm on, what, week full, week two, number two kind of, with this game, I am. How many plays would you say you have on it? Oh, I don't know. Like 50 maybe? 50. Okay. 50 is a good number. That is a good number. Yeah, we were playing after the last podcast, dude. We played for hours. We did play about 20 plays last week. Drew was like, one more game. This is a one more game. Feel do it. One more game. One more game. And then at the end of the night, he was like, man, I don't care. whatever game you want on my collection we'll just swap it out right now i was so serious i'm like yep we'll do a trade i'm okay with it the game is so good yeah no it's cool i was uh i just want to give a shout out to the uh bro do you even pinball guys uh the bro guys over there buffalo pinball um because i listened or i watched their uh stream they did i don't know four years ago nick and kevin do a great job with tutorials and gameplays they really if you guys haven't checked it out check out buffalo pinball it's awesome i'm sure they have but i'm this one specifically was pretty cool because they didn't know how to play whitewater either and they were at some guy's basement i forgot the guy's name sorry guy um but no they uh the guy explained all the rules i learned a lot know kind of what i'm doing a lot of cool stuff that i didn't know what i was shooting at now i know what i'm shooting at so um so yeah i was i was impressed the the complexity and how deep it can be but it's also very simple that's what makes this game so great because all the shots feel great yes and you might not get a ton of points but then if you want to yeah there's a lot of shit to do yeah yeah and the flow surprisingly when you look at the play field i was like man this thing's gonna probably shoot like shit clunk yeah no it's fast stupid fast i don't know what the fuck i'm doing half the time it goes so fast so i'm into it though sure it's exciting and it does have that one game one more game feel because my games are so short yep yeah so i think my high score right now is 220 million i think which is not bad not not a bad score and then yeah the the machine reset so i didn't even get my ball three i could have had more but yeah ian had a couple of issues but he figured them out yeah no i just had uh some switches were soldered incorrectly and uh we soldered them up and i soldered them up and it's it's working perfectly now so no more resets no no duct tape no no duct tape i didn't have to throw rock at the thing and smash smash with rock make work that's how i fixed black rose it seemed to work hey hey that black rose was super solid that thing no see everyone thinks that thing was super solid but after every party oh you were down here working on it even during parties i had to fix something really well you know it's funny the canon mech on my black rose and i you know i for the love of me love of god i was like all the wires around the canon mech so if you're not familiar with black rose the canamec is this it's right in the middle of the play field it's this plastic thing um it's basically uh just a ball ejector or whatever uh um a jet you know it just shoots the ball out it's it aims it goes left or right it rotates well the mechanism underneath this cannon um it has just a lot to it there's a lot going on in it and every once in a while i like to grab a wire that's under the play field like somehow the wire will get shifted and then it'll just yank and pull that wire right out. So I'd have to bust out the soldering iron or something wouldn't work or the cannon wouldn't fire or it was a pain in the ass. So I would like do my best though, zip tie everything away from this damn cannon. And I'd play it three weeks straight. But you know, the law, you know, of pinball, when it comes to people playing it, I mean, you have parties coming over, got people coming over two seconds in second game, you know, boom, you look and the damn thing's not firing. Again, you look underneath. Yep more wires are pulled Get the soldering iron So that sucked There was a switch I never fixed in it I don't even know what that switch does There's things on that Going on with that You know when you start it up It's like check switch this Well one switch I could never get to Because it was like buried in the game I was like oh fuck that switch But I wonder what that does Opens up the whole game But everything else It was like every other week It was like something else went in that game. It was time to get rid of that one. It was just too much maintenance. You were really quiet about that. You were keeping those pinball secrets from me. Well, I don't mind. Well, we didn't have a podcast at the time. Touche, sir. Touche. But no, Whitewater, still two thumbs up. Loving it. Having a lot of fun with it. I appreciate more of the call-outs now and the artwork. And yeah, if you don't have a Whitewater, get one. and if you have one on location around you which i doubt you do but if you do get out there and play it it's awesome awesome game yep so email us at poor man's pinball podcast and tell ian he should trade me for my simpsons or my alice cooper just temporarily i do alice cooper i know you would i love alice no well oh man i'm having so much fun with that we'll talk about that a little i have a feeling uh yeah alice cooper would be popular with all all the friends that come down here so yeah yeah i think that's it well and you can play that co-op mode where you're playing together which is kind of cool yeah absolutely it's kind of neat all right drew i uh i'll get a refill you just talk about your oh your personal news so good fucking eye rolling over here me i'm just like oh good lord here we go drew's back all right hold on so i have been burning up uh pinside market and uh i found a firepower the other day and it's kind of beat up but it's close and it does work and needs some attention, but I was like, you know what, for the low price that he's asking, I'm jumping in on it. So tomorrow I am picking that up. Well, then I also got an email from our buddy Jeff LaGrange, who we kind of worked out this handshake deal for an F-14. They have a group of guys that they kind of like share pinball machines, I guess. They pooled their money together and they bought a bunch of machines. But anyways, it's the... That's pretty cool. Yeah, it is kind of a neat thing. So they kind of swap machines around and stuff and whatever. They're lifelong friends and whatever. Drew and I do that with our women. Yeah, yeah. We don't pay for them, though. Edit, edit, edit. So do we. Do we not. Well, we pay, but not in the way that you guys are thinking. Yeah, it's super expensive. It's not like the fun kind of pay. It's like the Monday through Sunday pay. Yeah, just pay every day. pay you don't even play half the time pay with your ass no no pun intended jesus um so anyways he emailed me and he said hey uh he's ready to uh give up this game and and uh so this f14 it's it's a player's condition it is beat up but everything works and he's like yep if you want a game just to play and then play the shit out of it and sell it this is your game because it's not a showpiece i was like yep that's that's my style give me the game i'll uh i'll play it and have some fun, and then I'll get rid of it. So tomorrow, if all goes well, I am going to take a couple-hour drive, and I'm going to pick up a Firepower and an F-14. So what's wrong with the Firepower, do you know? It works. It turns on. There's a coil that needs to be replaced. But coincidentally, there's actually two coincidences here. Did you just do what I think you did? Oh. Let's move on. I thought you left the cork in there. No, we're okay. I'm here trying to take the plastic off and open up trying to open up this fucking bottle and it turns out somebody already popped the cork and I'm sitting here picking at cork, never mind I don't know who's this guy so the guy who's selling me the F-14 he actually has a really nice firepower and he told me he knows how to work on boards and he will help me with any board work for a case of beer who's this? Jeff, Jeff LaGrange alright so he knows firepower well he knows it real well, he's had it for years He's bulletproofed his, so I'm set. He's already willing to help. So Jeff LaGrange, thank you very much. What does Firepower go for that is not working? $600. Okay. I was going to say $700. Yeah, you're right there. You're right there. Working $1,200. It's a Williams System 6. I think it's the first multiball game. Okay. So that's kind of its claim to fame. They made 17,000 of these things. Jesus Christ. Yeah, they are everywhere. Okay. Yes. A lot of people were re-theming these. These are the games they re-theme all over the place. Yeah, it's like this one and Meteor, right? Yeah. Yeah, Meteor's another one. Because they just made so many of them, they're like, hey, we got all these extra playfields. What do you want to do with them? Cool, man. Yeah, so I'm super excited about it. You going to re-theme yours? No. Okay, pussy. Well, maybe. Yeah. Let me get it working first. What would you re-theme it to if you could do any theme? Futurama. Futurama. Ah, that's right. You knew that was coming. When the words came out of my mouth, I was like, oh, motherfucker. I knew it. I was like, yeah, it's going to say Futurama. Some other lame-ass cartoon shit. Yep, yep. And I had another. I get it. Everybody out there who loves Futurama, it's a great show. I had another great idea the other day for a re-theme, and now for the life of me, I cannot think of it. So when it comes up, I'm just going to blurt it out because it was one of those things I was like, oh, you know what? I think people would really like this. Yeah. So I'll blurt it out later. Okay. After another couple drinks. Thundercats. No shit. What? Thundercats. Yeah, just blurt it out. Snarf. Snarf. So, yeah, that's what's going on tomorrow. I got a pinball adventure. I'm going to go drive a little bit and pick up a couple pinball machines. Nice. You're going to get in both, huh? Yeah, I'm going to do it. Fuck. Awesome, man. I am excited. Where's the F-14? Is it local? No, it's in the Green Bay area. Oh, fuck. All right. But I'm going to be in Menasha, which is close to Green Bay. Menasha. Yep. Very cool, man. So, yeah, that's my poor man's pinball podcast, personal pinball news. Ian's rolling his eyes. He hates when I say it like that. No, no. Oh, roll away, sir. Roll away. I did nothing of the sort. I did nothing of the sort. All right. Let's get into some news. Let's get into some meat and potatoes of this podcast. Yeah, let's do it, sir. Meat and potatoes. All right, so every news story on this thing I have not seen, so I am useless to you, my man, but let's play this game. Stern, Jurassic Park got streamed by Jack Danger and Keith, the man, Elwin. Drew, you watched the stream. So good. It looked beautiful. I saw the preview of it, and I saw, like, probably 30 seconds of it, to be honest, but it's on my list, though. I want to watch it because Jack Danger and Keith Elwin playing pinball is like a wet dream of mine and a dry dream. So what what was newsworthy about this stream other than it just being so fucking good? Well, the big news for the tournament players and the, you know, the real hardcore players is that they added a it's called Museum Multiball. And I can't even specify on what it is or how it works. But that was the big talk. But for me personally like I said I like the deep rule sets A game like Simpsons Pinball Party is obviously on top of my list and the theme is so great I was telling Ian before we started recording somehow, someway, I'm going to get Jurassic Park, even if it's the Pro. And the thing that took me over the edge was I was on the Pinside Measel Mods thread. Yeah. Oh, my God, they're making some cool shit. Are they? They have the Raptor Pit. They made it with the little electrical prongs on the top with the electric fencing and just super cool stuff. Nice. The Barbasol shaving cream can. That was just kind of neat. I did see people were working on that. Oh, they upgraded the guard shack. Even on the premium, the guard shack is kind of short and shallow behind the Raptor Pit. But they're currently finishing production on this super awesome one. It's just, like I said, I'm not going to buy a ton of mods going forward. I was going to say, this is a little outside the box here because I thought you were done with the mod thing. But Jurassic Park is such a dream theme of mine. And even without the mods, that game is so good that I'm going to have to get my hands on one so I can play it. And the rules, that's just awesome. Jurassic Park dream theme, huh? All right. Like I said, I've been a lifelong Jurassic Park fan. No, no, I get it, brother. I get it. It's awesome. The Barbasol can. Fuck. I know. See, even that, like... That's the most ridiculous thing ever. Here's how I stay true to not buying the mods. They have a Duff can mod for The Simpsons, which is super cool. I've yet to buy it. Right. It's neat. And the Barbasol can, it's part of the movie, but it doesn't really fit in there. They just put a Barbasol can there, but it's still cool. Dude, that electric fence thing is awesome on Measle Lads. I'm telling you. That looks sharp. It looks like it belongs there. It's not. Oh, my God. So, Tim Measle, you did great, man. That's awesome. Great, great job. What are they doing with the heliblades here? They're making it so it spins on the pro, I think. All right. That's their thing. There you go. That's a big thing. And my thing about that, I've been telling people all along, like, I played the LE, and those helicopter blades did absolutely nothing for me. No, no. Zero zilch. I played it at Expo. Oh, really? Yeah. I was like, oh, that's what that does. And I kind of laughed. I kind of laughed. Yeah. Like, what are we doing here? The rest of the game is, like, damn near flawless, but then you see that, and you're like, okay. I mean, it wasn't overwhelming. Dude, that tower is fucking serious, too. Everybody check out Measlemons. There's a whole thread on Pinside. Fantastic mods they're doing. Are they up on the site? Are you on Measlemons? I am right now. Then I guess they're on the site. They're on the site. The Raptor Pen. Let's see what the Raptor Pen looks like. And then they have... This is real exciting as I'm watching all this cool shit. Oh my God, the Raptor Pen's even cooler. I told you. I was not making this up, man. See? See what I'm saying now? They did such a good job with this, just looking at that thread. Like I said, I was already kind of on the fence about buying it. Yeah. I really want it. You could really dial up a pro, that's for sure. And then, yes, you could get the... And you know what they're working on, supposedly? An animatronic... A real dinosaur. Yes. No, what? An animatronic dinosaur? For the pro. Really? Yeah. There's been... Go to the thread on Pinside. I don't know how far they are with it. I don't know if it's going to happen. There has been talks about it. If they can do that, I'm buying a pro tomorrow. Oh, shit. Throw down the old credit card, huh, Drew? Measle Mox, if you can get an animatronic T-Rex head for the pro, I'm in on a pro. Zach Many, are you listening? I was going to say, you're going to have to go call our boy at Flip N Out Pinball, Zach Many. It's going to happen. It's such a good game. Yeah. It's so good. I know it, man. But I do want to see what's next for sure. Listen, I shot it. I want to play it more, obviously. I only played it a few times. I will say that, again, it is packed with shots. Packed with shots. That's what I dig most about it. Well, so is Houdini, but nobody likes Houdini. Because, I'm not going to say tight shots, but Jurassic Park as a whole is just wider. It's wider open. I gotcha. The middle of the play field is wide open. I'm just stirring the pot. You can stir away, sir. That's what we do here. Just causing some drama. no there's a shit ton going on in jurassic park no doubt about it yep the shots are fun the the toys are fun the t-rex is amazing i guess i uh i guess i just for whatever reason the artwork still bothers me a lot i don't know why like i said i honestly but if i had multiple pins yep it doesn't matter the side art all gets mixed that's that's the point i i don't have multiple pins yeah you're looking at a centerpiece in ian's house which is fine No, but that's when you get the showpiece And you say, hey, this is my showpiece But you're right, when you start lining up pins Then, you know, it's just The sides don't matter as much Nope, I get it, brother Alright, so that's Stern Well, what's next? You got any more rumors? Any juicy rumors? They're saying possibly Stranger Things, they have the license That's been kind of going around for a while Do we think that that's happening? Stranger Things, well last week was what? Karate Kid or was that two weeks ago? A couple weeks ago it was Karate Kid. So we're still saying Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is coming. Yes, but they're saying that's going to be the first one of next year, potentially. Well, that's what I'm thinking. I don't think anything's coming out this year, do you think? One more? They'll sneak something in before Christmas. Alright, well if that's the case... You know why? Money, money, money. What's that stern? Money, money, money, money. What do we make here? Money. we don't make pinball machines we print money manufacture money motherfuckers Gary Stern got his old money printing machine I'm looking like Ebenezer Scrooge right now he's cranking something yes Satan what do I have to make? oh yes more money no I like what they're doing there no they're fine there's nothing wrong with making money but uh yeah that's not at all that's what they're doing well that's the formula right get a badass theme move forward from that and guess what as more competition keeps coming in what do they keep doing they just keep making better pins yeah i mean it's it's good for all of us no it is it is and the competition coming in sorry this original theme stuff that they keep pushing out i mean i love it i love the creativity of it sure but at the end of the day people do want themes yep yeah themes tend to sell yeah do you want to sell a hundred machines or do you want to sell a thousand machines you know that's really the difference like you you can make a cool one off pin and maybe sell a hundred machines and that's fine right do you want a jurassic park or do you want a space carnival you know cosmic yeah yeah cool cool pin cool pin but you're not going to sell a ton of them because even us we're like it's cool but we would never purchase that Right, if I had that money, I would look for something that resonates with me. Does that make sense? Yeah, that's why I'm looking at Jurassic Park. It resonates. Yeah, totally. I get it, brother. All right, let's keep going, keep moving. What about maybe Tremors? I could see that. I mean... I'm just fucking with you. I don't know. I have no idea. Well, there's actually been a lot of talk. You know, horror themes seem to do really well in pinball. Yeah. And it doesn't seem like they've done a lot of I'd like Charlie to do Tremors Charlie I love you buddy but let's do some Tremors You know they haven't done any like Great horror pins that kind of make you feel like the movie I just need more Kevin Bacon pins Anything Kevin Bacon How about what was that one So we got an Arnold pin we were thinking about We're trying to do a Sly pin We're thinking about doing a Sylvester Stallone We talked about that Howlman Let's do a Kevin Bacon Flashdance into invisibility to fight worms. You don't even need his image then. You just put the image of the sunglasses on there and you're like, yep, there's Kevin Bacon. And we didn't have to pay him a damn thing. You wouldn't be able to call it Hollow Man. You'd just call it the Invisible Man from that horror movie. Can't see him, man. Now you see me, now you don't, man. So, American Pinball, are you listening? This is how you can do an original theme but still have... I got fucking ideas. Oh, my God. Email us at poormanspinball... Email us at poormanspinball at gmail.com. Tell us how terrible our ideas are. Yeah, yeah. Invisible man. Sorry, Kevin Bacon. Can't see you, man, is way better. Can't see you. Way better. Way better. Can't see me, man. Dave's not here, man. I don't know what that's from. That was from some kooky movie I saw once. Okay. Anyway Spooky Spooky pinball Spooky They released a new topper If you guys haven't seen that fucker on Facebook Shame on you That thing is Really weird We We I mean that in the best possible way We kept it in our pants when we were there We actually saw the like The workings of the We did Prototype Yeah we saw We kept a lot of things in our pants Well we saw We saw the brain And the googly eyes And at first we were just kind of like laughing at it And Charlie goes well that's the topper and we're like no really where's the topper that's it and um and then he explained what it was going to do and then i got it and i was like okay because it was just kind of literally like the brain in a jar yeah we saw yeah um but now that i've watched i just thought it was something on his desk yeah sure no no because if you just saw the brain in the jar with the googly eyes you'd be like yeah that's hilarious yeah it's just a funny goofy thing you It's Charlie, and that's cool. But playing the game, knowing the rules, and how those little meters tell you how you're doing and stuff, there's those forms. It's very interactive. There you go. Very interactive. Very cool. It's super cool. It's weird in a weird way. You think so? I think so. That's the one thing I was like, that doesn't make any sense to the Alice Cooper Nightmare Castle. However, it is super cool. Because Alice Cooper is kind of kooky and weird himself. Well, no, I get it. Maybe not his persona, per se, but that game. It's got the tongue-in-cheek. It's got kind of the jokes. Right, I get it. But that is very B-horror to me. Sure. And I think Alice Cooper nods at the B-horror, but it's still pretty dark and cool and brooding. Correct. I'm not taking anything away from the topper. I love the topper. It's weird as shit. That's why I like it so much. No, it is. and I've been emailing with Charlie this week actually and the word he used our best friend we know you Charlie not anymore he sent me an email that said isn't it great it's kooky weirdness I did read that that's what it's meant to be it's fucking weird Charlie if you look at the side of the cabinet Alice Cooper is holding the brain it's just awesome great job Charlie and team again awesome good job spooky so uh and we don't know when yet but uh new code should be dropping soon for alice did you see the price on it the topper uh 2.99 fucking cheap compared to other toppers what i'm just happy they have a topper you people are still waiting for r2d2 for 1200 you could buy three charlie toppers for the price of one stern topper it's crazy right it's nutty just nutty yeah no and i'm not a topper guy i keep saying it and i won't be and if i kept out if i was going to keep alice cooper for sure indefinitely i would buy that i'm still not 100 sure only because limited time as space and money that's it people love toppers they do if i was a real greedy fuck i would i could sell my you know my whitewater topper for big muck yeah what do those go for like 500 bucks they go up they're up there yeah because they're hard to find sure sure you can't even find reproductions anymore that work well so and the part i don't get with that uh sorry to get off topic here with those whitewater toppers why they can't make them work with the leds yeah it's funky the way the people have tried yeah they don't have tried and they just can't get well you can replace the bulbs obviously like anything else but it just doesn't look right no no they had issues with and you think someone with some led could have figured out a screen or something to make it work sorry drew can't do it it's impossible it's not it's It's called science, bro. I bet you the spooky brain could figure it out. Listen, only incandescent bulbs can make water, and you know that, man. Wah. That's all I got to say to you. Wah. Science. I'm not getting into full sentences anymore. Just wah. This is where people fast forward through this shit. Yeah, people are already at the end of this podcast. They're like, what are these fucking signs? I hope you guys enjoyed the love letters. Yeah. Ah, we got our zip back. Whatever. All right. We're moving on. American pinball. You hear this zip? That's my pants. All right. I got to get another drink. Oh, let's do that. Cocktail break. Cocktail hour. We'll be right back. You don't have to work and slave. Let electricity do it for you. You can have... 3, 2, 33, 1, 0. Main event of the evening. Hello, friends. Are you tired of jumping from podcast to podcast just to catch up on the latest pinball news, opinions, market trends, and unfounded rumors built on grandiose delusions of grandeur? Sure, we all are. Well, now there's hope. Martin here, but you might know me as listener number 15. From the internet! whenever I'm dizzy from the podcast shuffle I just tune in to the internet's one-stop shop for pinball news, entertainment, and top five lists of course, I'm talking about Poor Man's Pinball Podcast with Drew and Ian not only does the Poor Man's team keep me informed with up-to-the-second news they also entertain me with hard-hitting reporting drink recipes and comical jokes to keep the discussion lively now with all that in one show why would you go anywhere else? So please, do what I do. Grab a handle of Kessler's, sit back, and watch your life slip away with the Poor Man's Pinball Podcast. Won't you? Thank you. That's it, man. Game over, man. Game over. Alright, and we're back. Thank you, everybody. Drew? Yes, I'm here. American Pinball. Tell us about American Pinball. Oh, they're teasing me. They're teasing me. The game that got away that you should have down here in your basement right now? They trolled me a bit. Yeah, earlier this week they put on their Facebook page some Matrix-looking code. Did I believe it was Matrix? No. No, not really. They not going to reveal that way I know they not going to reveal Drew I know this Do you know that For my everlasting shame I know I still shared it anyway because I was excited for the Matrix Ben It's an exciting time. Anyway, so, and Kaz was trolling too. Because Kaz knows what the next game is and he won't tell anybody. He does, doesn't he? He does. He went to the American Pinball. They showed him. Yeah. That prick. We go to Spooky. What do they show us? A brain with googly eyes. You see the difference there? Sorry, Charlie. anyway um just it was just like a little quick blurb um about their upcoming code release for oktoberfest the game i will have game is so fun and they made it more fun well they made the animations like even prettier it's a prettiest thing that they could do is just add some more i won't say that's people if you guys sorry go ahead no no fire away man you are fired up i can see it you guys need to give this game a fair shot that's all i'm saying i totally agree with that pinballers pinball let's give that game a shot because yeah artwork might not be the prettiest but it's fucking better than a lot of the shit that was released in the last 10 years can we agree on that that game you know with them not bad with the amount of shots and stuff you know we were just talking about jurassic park right oh so many great shots so this and that that game the same that way yeah there's a lot of great shots a lot of cool stuff buy that game people i want it i want it badly i want it so bad true um because that that's just one of those games that i think is is it's a sleeper hit it should be it should be a hit hit it should be yeah it should be it's um where is it on the the top 100 oh that's interesting i have it right here but Go ahead. I have it right here. It is number... Because, you know, a game that is that packed and has that many cool shots and it's fun to play, but, you know, nobody's buying it and it's not on a lot of locations. It's 54. Oh, that's actually higher than I thought. That's not so bad. 55 is Houdini. No, 53 is Houdini. That's kind of interesting. Yeah. What do you think is a better game? Oktoberfest is a better game than Houdini. Okay. It's below X-Men. is below Judge Dredd, which shocks me. Getaway, High Speed 2, No Good Golfers. It's better than all these games. Judge Dredd should be 312. It's better than Fish Tales. It's better than TNA, and I love TNA. There's just more shots to it. Yeah, No Good Golfers. It's better than Sword of Rage. Congo is a couple ahead of it. Yeah, that's really interesting. I find it a travesty. I think it should be, if I am talking right here out of my ass, which I am, it should be somewhere in the mid-20s. Probably below Walking Dead, which is 25. So 26, 27, 28, 29. Honestly, if I was... I'd prefer that over The Hobbit. I'll just say it. More shots, more entertaining for me. There's a lot more to go. You know what? I own The Hobbit. I like The Hobbit a lot. I agree with that statement. Yeah. It should be at least... All right. We replaced The Hobbit, number 29. We just burned every bridge we have in the pinball world. No, not everybody likes The Hobbit. No, no, no. But I do agree. Yes, I think it should be top 30. Let's get fucking excited here, people. Cobra Fest is a great game. It just is. The code is there. The shots are there. There's some hard-ass shots, too. Hard fucking shots. But you know what? There's a lot of cool, fun shots, too, to make up for it. Yeah, so what do we think is missing on that? Like I said, I just think it's because it didn't do well. It's a theme. Nobody cares about Oktoberfest as a theme. I love it, but I'm an alcoholic, and I'm a German. So you think if they just made that exact game with a different theme, like a blockbuster theme, it would just be like knocking it out of the park. Yeah. Put Matrix in there, we were just saying. Sure, sure. Boom. It's a top 10 game maybe. I don't know. I don't know. At least top 20. You know what I found interesting? That bothers me. Give it a shot. Give it a shot, folks. Just to go back to that Jurassic Park for a moment, there's 161 ratings and it is number four. I know. That game is... They're probably selling a ton of those things. Those things are probably flying out of the freaking shelves. Which almost makes me feel like they don't need to release a game anymore this year. You know, they don't. I know. And the used ones are not going to be cheap. No. Son of a bitch. I mean, to surpass Pirates of the Caribbean JJP is a little surprising to me Sure JJP is an amazing experience Oh, absolutely Totally agree Can we also just This is going to be my controversial drunk statement of the night No Can we just Take nostalgia out of it a little bit, guys Out there, and maybe we can have room For a new number one, two, or three Oh, I've been, you know what When I first got into this hobby I was like, oh yeah, these are 1, 2, and 3 These are great pinballs and they are And I was like, yep, they're just going to stay there And they should I don't agree with that anymore Well, you know, owning a Monster Bash Playing the shit out of it And knowing a lot of it Did we just become best friends? We did It's not a top 3, it just isn't It's a great game, it's beautiful There's nothing wrong with that game Except for the code is so Incredibly repetitive incredibly repetitive maybe they should have like three or four top 100 lists it should be like overall and there should be like you know rules um you know art you know what i mean just kind of maybe have different you know why not i don't know i mean they could just they could just do that where they have okay that's the top 100 list that's the one everyone goes to but yeah have an art one have a rules one because like oktoberfest would be higher up with like rules or shots or whatever because you take the theme out and like we said it's a good game it's a good pinball game i mean medieval madness has 1500 reviews you know it's going to take a lot to move that up or down you know it's kind of cemented where it's at right yeah so how come these other ones aren't well jurassic park didn't fly up there for a while the only only thing i can say is this folks this is the only thing i can say is maybe just maybe we might want to just reset the ratings completely and start fresh oh that's not controversial at all i love that idea just reset just start over and there's so many new games now with deeper code than those williams games yep um a lot of fun mechs a lot of fun shots some interesting layouts tna comes to mind you know that that are deeper and probably more satisfying for the home user than medieval Madness, Attack from Mars, and Monster Bash. And I am a huge fan of Attack from Mars. It's one of my favorite all-time games. I was just about to say, and how come even with all these ratings, I know Attack from Mars has made the top spot a couple of times here and there. I think most people think Attack from Mars is the better game. The more and more I listen to different people... Over Media to Madness? Yeah. They're both great games, don't get me wrong. I would like to have both of them in my collection, but if I had to pick one, it would almost always be Attack from Mars. Gotcha. Yeah, I mean, I guess, and I agree with you. I agree with you. I like Attack from Mars more, but that's only because I love the theme more. But, you know, when you have something like 1,500 ratings, how many of those people are still active Pinside users? And when were those ratings taken? Like, were they taken before all these new games came out? Like, is this in the dark days of, you know, early Stern? Not early Stern. You know what I mean. Even if you go back three or four years ago, there wasn't a ton of great games coming out. So yeah, you're right. If these guys are five, six, seven years old on Pinside, yeah, absolutely. That's why a reset would be nice. I'd just like to see what this new brand of Pinsider would rate them. We're in an old man's hobby, and you're talking new ideas, man. Yeah, I know. New ideas. Fucking burn me at the stake, folks. You know what? The same thing goes for designers. you know like we said we love the old designers but where have all the best games come from in recent times i'm just stating facts i'm not hey man i'm not throwing shade no very very new of you i know i've never said that phrase before in my life that's a true statement drew has become woke i don't even know what that means um no no pat lawler is one of my favorite design i loved most of his games. He's one of my favorite designers. I'm just saying that Keith Elwin has now made two games that are highly regarded as some really, really good games. That's all I'm saying. All right. Yeah. And you mentioned Pat Lawler, right? So what would you rather have in your collection? Would you rather have a Medieval Madness or a Willy Wonka? Standard. Oh, Willy Wonka. Yeah. By leaps and bounds. Exactly. It's not even funny. That's what i mean i saw that medieval madness you know the new one it's ten thousand dollars i'm like shit i could buy a wonka and have twenty five hundred dollars left over yeah you know exactly it's just a no-brainer right i'm with you man yeah i you're right that that's that's probably the best argument there yeah yeah pick any of the new games yeah from any of these manufacturers jurassic park premium or right you know medieval madness yeah jurassic park yeah and not just because it's new because it's just a great game and willie wonka the same the code's deeper there's more to it there's meat and potatoes there kids all right anyway all right we digress that's another fucking tangent people skipped over all right let's let's finish this up kelts kelts from haggis pinball haggis um so what i understand how they're doing their manufacturing I'm a little unsure that they're going to be able to I hope before I say any of this I hope they're wildly successful you and me both brother but they're making games to order so my only hope to them is that they don't get over their head because they don't have a ton of capital so what they need to do is get these orders and make the games and then hopefully have enough money to buy more parts so they can make more games. Right. Because it's kind of a, they're not taking pre-orders and deposits. I mean, they are to a certain extent. You've got to pay them, I think, $1,700, which that's minimal. Let's just be honest. That's fine. And then they start making your game. Then you make a second payment, and then a third when it's ready to ship or something, which is fine. but with that business model you know if they get a bunch of orders well now they need a bunch of parts right so they're getting the parts to order i don't know see i'd assume they have a fucking warehouse full of parts they don't i think they've said that that's the problem you see what i'm saying because they need to make so many games he went on record saying they can't get parts to order though they take forever to get parts in well they have some parts i'm not saying they have no parts i'd assume they have parts in a warehouse but they don't they don't have like and they can't make 500 games well no okay no i don't expect them to i assume they have parts for 100 games at most tops yeah tops maybe 50 yeah probably more realistic 50 yep see if they get their first 50 and and he's like literally making him them himself right that that that could be a problem too because let's let's say 50 people say i want games i'm pretty sure i talked to him he talked about, they had help. They have a whole manufacturing thing. They're going to... They have employees that they can help with this manufacturing. No, like I said, I hope they do. But this is where a lot of these companies get hung up. That's all I'm saying. We wish Damien the best. Damien, you're the best, bro. Absolutely. I don't know. I'm excited, though. I want them to do well. Like I said, I want to see number two from them. I want to see a Kelton location here. oh that'd be fun right yeah no that's my hope my hope is they're you know because the other issue that they're going to run into a little bit is the shipping because they're you know not in the united states you know that's a very interesting point you bring up would it be it'd be cool to have a location pin let's just say our local bar here is the blackbird that has pinball machines what if the blackbird buys one of these pins but now their their call outs are all blackbird clan That would be cool You have your own pinball basically With your own little shit on there I don't know If you were a bar and you were into pinball Maybe they should Market that a little bit more We can do your business and shit on here I don't know Maybe there's something there to it Alright Drew Is that it for Kelts? That's it for Kelts We love you Damien Let's get dirty Getting dirty Let's get dirty Listener number 15 why don't you cue that music Splash on some high karate Lay down on the shag carpet Right by that fireplace Because it's time for Love letters Alright folks you know what time it is It's time to get sexy with some Love letters Here we go I'll start us off Drew You okay with that? I'm ready Alright here we go Dear Whitewater Your gleam is something that makes me quiver I love when you look at me With such loving eyes I want to put my balls On your whirlpool I want to hold you tight And kiss you everywhere I want to be with you Whether it's hanging out with the Yeti On top of a mountain Or it's just you and I and take a romantic ride down Insanity Falls. Whitewater, you're the perfect hydration I need for the rest of my life. Unless I get sick of you after six months. Then I'm just going to have to get an Oktoberfest. For now, my eyes are on you, Wet Willie, and all you crazy-ass friends. Love, Hugh. Almost couldn't do it. Almost couldn't do it. Well, that was good. I appreciate that, Ian. That was a good one. Thank you. Thank you. In Drew Zip fashion, I did something a little different this week, as I often do. I never follow the rules of our... Just read it, buddy. Whatever we do. This is a pinball love story. You ready? Yeah. A man was in a bar called Spears. ordering dinner with his friend he gets up and stumbles into the men's room this man is standing in the bathroom facing the mirror dick in his sweaty palms swaying back and forth through the music or he just crying It hard to tell Another man follows him into the men room He comes up behind him, and he whispers softly in his ear, Are you okay, man? No, Zach, I'm standing in front of the urinal with my dick in my hand and puking. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the greatest pinball love story ever told. Oh. We're all done. Yep. You've got to always end a love letter with a dick in your hand. And the last time we will ever mention the incident on this show. Until next week, guys. Until next week. Well, guys, that was love letters. Tell us what you think. Yeah, email us, poormanspinball at gmail.com. Like us on Facebook, but message us either way. Tell us what you thought about Love All right Very nice very nice Drew that incident It gets funnier and funnier every time I own it It was there I did it whatever Fuck that was funny as shit So I just remember Drew I don't know what We didn't have dinner that was the problem I didn't have a bite to eat all day And you You were powering them two to my one. True story. On the rocks, yeah. And we were drinking whiskey on the rocks while all these other guys were drinking beer. And some of them weren't drinking because they drank too much the night before, but I'm not going to point out names here, which is fine. They don't have to drink. Nobody needs to drink. We don't need to drink at all. My wife tells me that on a daily basis. We pushed it. We pushed it a little hard. Pushed it real hard, yeah. I felt okay, but Drew, my man over here, yeah we i just fucking remember we were you all of a sudden i realized you could not stand anymore and and ian will attest to that that's how i that's how i do it like i'm fine i'm fine i'm fine i'm fine and then all of a sudden i just hit this wall and it's just like it's all over it's done yeah like an hour before this happens you'd be like oh he's just having fun whatever no big deal and then 30 minutes later who brought this guy to the party yeah we lost drew for an hour and a half i think it was close and i was like where the fuck is he and then i ran into him in the hallway and he's fucking making out with john borg and uh i was like dude love you john yeah john was cool shit but um super cool eddie malcolm drew why don't you start us off brother all right we got uh i'll do the emails how's that sounds great all right so email number one sean f the guy who was uh wanted us to show his Metallica. We did. Yes, we did. We sold it. Fuck yeah, Sean. By the way, gents, Metallica is sold. On to the next one. Awesome. Awesome, Sean. Thanks for listening again, buddy. And then Chris Kotech. This one's just hilarious. You know, I'm going to save that one for last. Sorry, Chris. Michael Williams. He's the Damn It, I'm Thirsty guy. Damn it, I'm thirsty. Hi, guys. It was great to meet you at Expo. I enjoyed talking about time tournaments. I'm curious enough about them. I'm going to start querying my tournament regulars about how they feel about the format. Mike and I were just talking, and he was telling me about he runs tournaments in Madison, Wisconsin. And I just told him, you know, I don't do tournaments. I'd like to. But, you know, a lot of people talk about watching tournaments and how they're so long. And, you know, the idea of timing them has come up. Like, have, like, a three-minute thing, and you just see how much you can get. And he goes, well, you know, new people don't like that because, you know, they're taking their time, which I get. But, you know, some of the experienced people might dig that. So he's going to ask about it. So, hey, I might have had an impact on the Madison tournament scene. Who knows? For the better or the worse. Who knows? But his vote for episode strength would be a Godfather. The Godfather. Do you know what that is, Ian? I don't. Never had it. They go down real easy and another great pairing for playing pinball. So, Mike, we're going to look up Godfather and see what it's all about. Watch us go balls deep in Godfather. All right, so Chris Kotech, you guys are killing it. You guys are doing awesome. I loved Eagle Rare and Ian's love of System 11s. I have Pimbot, F-14, Space Station, and Taxi. That's a good lineup. To be fair, the other week I did say that I didn't know what the hell System 11 was. Yeah, I think you got us confused because I was talking about System 11. You do love System 11. Yeah, Taxi is awesome. And I do love Taxi. His list here is pretty good. And the F-14's in there, which I'm getting tomorrow. You have my vote for Twippy. So that makes two votes for Twippy. We're almost there. Halfway there. You hear that, Kaneda? We're coming for you, buddy. We're coming for you. As long as you don't do anything stupid, like podcast sober. There you go. We need that Drew zip. He said, Drew gets a one-time pass for his Expo recovery day. Keep up the good work. Chris in Minnesota. Thanks, Chris. So, yeah, I took one week sober. I had my Mio water and Dasani and had my electrolytes. That wasn't nearly as much fun. Here's the thing. I went without drinking from Expo until today. Yeah. Popped your cherry again. And for some of you guys, you guys might say, well, Drew, that's not a big deal because it's only like a week and a half. Here's the thing, okay? sober life is terrible that's what i learned all right yeah it's no fun right no it's no fun at all and i'm not saying be a drunk alcoholic puking on your dick in a urinal but you know that was a long time to go without drinking it was terrible awful i'm glad i'm back drew zip and a little a little confession here i only drink like during our podcast like i don't drink during the week. I drink during our podcast and I drink maybe during a Packer game, a football game or something. Or if we have guests over. But I'm not one of those guys that has cocktails alone. Can't do it. Is that emails, Drew? That's emails. Alright, dude. Let's go to Facebook here. Brother, Facebook. Facebook. Is there a new Facebook to go from? Mailbag, mailbag. Facebook. I don't know how to say it. Say it again. Facebook. Terrible. Don Bonus. Don Bonus, my man. He asked us on Facebook, what do you guys think of a lower-priced Stern line? Vintage, simplified, old-school EM style. Love it. What do you think? Do you think the chances are good or bad? Gomez talked about it. He did. The problem is those drop target mechs are really expensive. They are expensive. That's what he said. And most of those games, they have two or three or four. There's a lot of them. and he said they could make one no problem they could they could take meteor they can make it tomorrow but they're going to charge you like 4,500 or 5,000 for it and you know people they don't want that correct there's a reason why stand-up targets exist correct cheap you know if um if they made one and they could sell it for 3,800 i'm just throwing a number out there they would sell a shit ton of them right but at five thousand dollars they're not gonna sell a lot of them because you you can get a you can get a decent meteor for 1500 i mean he did talk about the beatles and how the bill of materials is a lot more than what people think yes they thought oh it's a single level and this and that but they put a magnet in there they put all those drop targets it was not cheap to make forget the license you know the game was just the game was expensive regardless and they had to redo it it wasn't actual sea witch they said right well they had to make it flow a little bit better and it plays beautifully oh i love that oh it's all i'm I'm enjoying it. Like I said, I'm not the biggest Beatles fan in the world. They're good. They're fine. But that game is really good. That pin makes you a fan. It's super cool. But my point is, yes. It's just a perfect celebration of the Beatles era in the 60s. Yes. And now you can get one for about $6,000. So if you really want a Beatles, now is the time. Right. But yeah, like I said, me personally, I would buy a Stern Classic for $3,500, but I wouldn't pay much more than that. Right. That's kind of my... And they can't do it, is basically what they said. Yeah. No, I get it, Don. I get what you're thinking about and the idea. I mean, case in point, you know, was it Mafia Pinball? Those guys over there. Sure. They made Mafia. That was an expensive-ass pin. It was like 10 Gs, right? Yeah. But here is the question du jour. If they made, yeah, I said it, du jour. I'm French. It's okay. If they made, like, say, a Meteor or Sea Witch, whatever, just pick your poison, would you want an LCD on it? Like a la Beatles. No. No? You just want the displays? I'd rather have displays. Okay. If you're going to put that much work into making an old school... I get it. No, no, I get it, and I would be fine with that too, but some people said, hey, why don't you call it Meteor 2, charge the $4,500 and then make it with a little screen, because the screens are cheap. The screen isn't really part of the cost. Well, no, but the animation is. Correct. You pay an animator, an artist, that's expensive as shit. Yeah, for sure. Screen's cheap. What are you going to put on the screen? That's the expensive part. Yeah. And then what else do we have on Facebook? Our boy Glenn Waechter, he's been chatting with us a bunch. I just checked my Facebook. He's still chatting with us. Love that man. Glenn, I feel like you are also a spirit animal, maybe of Drew's. Might have been mine, but I have Josh Secret already. He's my spirit animal. but uh we um we appreciate the chat um i can go into it but we there's so much what we were chatting about this week i just wanted to say glenn recognized love you man i just want to keep sending us messages i want to open my heart here for a second can i do this it's my podcast i can do whatever the fuck you want i got one more thing all right go ahead Okay, another thing on Facebook So we We posted a Sock watch With Kaneda, Chris Calouris Sock watch Which I was going to give him a break for Because it's summer Nope, no breaks We were going to give him a break for summer, it's fall now So, and he's in Japan He has a good job, he can afford some damn socks So Drew, Drew Post shared one of his photos of him in Japan without any socks on and Drew posted, sock watch. And he responded. Yeah, what did he say? He goes, I never sock. He never socks, kids. We might have an end to sock watch as we know it. Sock watch is over. I can't believe sock watch is over. And this whole time. How did that happen? This whole time, my wife sits next to me when I'm doing this shit, and she goes, you're an idiot. He's wearing ankle socks. And I'm like, no, he's not. There are no socks in those shoes. I can guarantee it. He never socks. He doesn't sock. So the mystery, you're right. Kaneda doesn't sock. Sockwatch is officially dead. It's dead. Okay. I'm so saddened. I was just getting warmed up. We have killed Sockwatch. Do-do-do-do. Brr. But what I wanted to say. Pour your heart out, buddy. No, it's not. What I want to say, though, is I never spent a lot of time on Facebook. And, you know, my family, my friends, you know, you get these people from high school. You say hi to them, and then, you know, you're kind of done with them, and you have 500 Facebook friends that you never talk to, right? Let's be honest. You know what the worst one is? Go ahead. You have a Facebook friend, like, from high school, and then 20 years later, you see them in the grocery store. Oh, it's awful. Don't even look. Yes. Avert the eyes. Yes. You've never looked at Hormel Chili. Oh, my God. So much love and attention. I did that once. Ooh, Hormel Chili on sale. Look at this, honey. There's this super cute Latina chick from my high school where it was, yeah, it was that moment. And you're right. I saw her, and I'm friends with her on Facebook, and I was like, no. It's just so awkward and weird, you know, just whatever. But anyways, so I never spent a lot of time on Facebook. I still don't spend a ton of time. You see most of the stuff posted is from Ian because he spends more time, which is fine. I just want to engage with the fans but what I was going to say though is some of you pinball people that I've met and interacted with I've really enjoyed it because we share this common interest and I think you guys have interesting things to say unlike my family and friends sorry if I'm insulting anyone my family and friends fuck you family but you guys know what I'm saying so anyways I appreciate meeting all you guys on Facebook keep sending us your stuff because I do enjoy interacting with you especially when we're talking about pinball because you know my wife humors me and she'll talk with me about pinball for about three minutes and then she's like I don't want to talk pinball anymore and I'm like okay it's only because Drew humored her for three minutes if you know what I mean three minutes 30 seconds before I got to podcast tonight so yeah thanks for all the comments and stuff keep them coming I will respond I do enjoy it so this is sincere I love you guys cheers we need a clinking music yeah we do clink clink come on alright alright well thank you Drew here we go man let's wrap her up wrap it up I got nothing else do you have anything else I got lots but we gotta wrap it up let's just put a bow tie on it call it we'll do it again in say seven days Guys, don't forget to like us on Facebook Please, we're trying to get to 700 700 likes Hit that like button 500 times Yeah, follow us I'll post more memes Because I know that's what you love us for We'll try to be more interactive Please, please like us on Facebook One more real quick piece I will be at TPF Drew is I'm not oh you're not I will be at TPF and my wife might be there too oh nice nice you can meet Mrs. Drew Zip alright alright so there you go that's gonna happen alright well thank you very much everybody all of our wonderful listeners we appreciate you tune in next week where we discuss the meaning of life it's pinball spoiler alert play more pinball be more pinball I don't have a cool catchphrase we don't either no this is it this is our catchphrase see ya later
