Who's this? It's me, Ryan C, all the way down from Australia. Woo! Welcome. Woo! Second time we're recording this. Woo! What are you talking about? Listen to the end credits. So a lot has gone on in these two weeks. We're about to reveal a curtain. When I say two weeks, Ryan, is it really two weeks? It's never two weeks. It's either two months or four months or God knows when. When is this podcast being recorded? Will our opinions be valid? Stay tuned to find out. Usually in the podcast I say when we start recording. I'm not going to end this one until the end of the episode. So you can try to guess with what's going on in what we're saying, when we're recording it, and then figure out, well, how quickly did they record it? And release it. I think you'll be impressed. Maybe not. Maybe the quality will suck. Who knows? I'm going to the Ron Hallett school of editing. As long as nothing is terrible and there's no slander, we'll just put it out there. We'll see. The other day, Jeff, I was listening to a song on Spotify that I really enjoyed and then my brain was like, is this an AI song? Does this person even exist? Because the song got me a little bit emotional and then I kind of did some research and I was listening to an AI song and I was really upset and then I realized that I do exactly the same thing. But I guess I'm not trying to elicit any emotion other than a couple of cheap laughs, but it got me and it's going to get to a point where I'm not going to be able to discern whether or not it's real or not. It's scary times we're living through, Jeff. Now, wait a second. Never seen the show. I know all about it. When Generation 1 came out, I was a young boy, so I would have watched it, just never got into it. I don't know why, it just didn't grab me. I love the first Transformers game I've played. I haven't played the new one yet. I haven't seen it out in the wild yet. I'm sure launch parties will be happening soon if they already haven't. And again, I really haven't played much out in the wild, so it's not that they're not out, but I can't explain it. I really know nothing about it. It wasn't just the movie. I feel like I was due for a little Disney Pixar sob and they know how to do it, Jeff. They know how to pull on the heartstrings, especially of parents. And my kid just looked at me, she's 11, and she was like, while I was shedding a little tear, she's like, are you seriously crying in the middle of the movie? I'm like, yeah, shut up.

Well, that's why we do podcasts, right? To keep these forever, so, you know, once we're collecting worms in our ass, you will remember Ryan and Jeff. By the way, the worms in the ass is because we're dead, not because we haven't cleaned or anything like that. I just want to point out that's the analogy there. As long as I keep on paying my hosting fees forever past death, I'll put it as part of my will. Someone will get my estate, but they have to keep on paying the $100 something a year to host this podcast. Hey, no one's hosting TopCast, and you can find those. Someone is a guy. Actually, I had a guy, I met a guy at the UK Open once and forgive me for forgetting, I remember the conversation very well but I forget the gentleman's name. And he asked if I can put up, there's about 90 episodes of Pinball Profile from early on that are not on Spotify or whatever else because back in the day, which I hate saying, we used to put it on Podcast Garden. And then that website went tits up and we're like, oh, shit. So it wasn't ever lost. It just wasn't accessible. I always had everything on my hard drive. So it's just a matter of me putting them up. And he's asked me to do it. He goes and he archives it all. But then now, even if you listen to this on Spotify, it transcribes for the most part what we say. Yes, I'm not sure if you know, Jeff, but when you listen on Spotify, it's not actually hosted on Spotify. They don't mirror the content. And it's still grabbing it off my web host. Just fast forward about five minutes and then we'll get back into the nitty gritty stuff, worms in the ass movie, shit like that. So I've been super busy. We joke about the fact that it took me, honestly, we recorded that last final round when Pokemon came out. So it was mid-February. I was talking, if you listened, I was talking about in this going on. Released May 31st. Transformers had already come out. So I promised Ryan this will be the fastest release in history. But the reason I've been busy is because I've been looking around for possible rental places for a possible new arcade that I might be partnering in. So there's a place I love called Maple Pinball, which I think is Mississauga Area Pinball League. And we've hosted the Ontario Open. We've hosted Spring Spectacular, weekly Friday nights. It's open right now. So if you're in Mississauga on Friday nights, come join us by a little tourney. But Shane Jackson, the wonderful friend and kind of guy who kept this thing going, had a couple of partners that are stepping aside. So he's looking either for new partners or call today. Well, myself and Jack Tabin don't want to see that happen. And in fact, we think we can do some good things with it. So the three of us have partnered up and we're just looking for new locations. So we've been scouring kind of Mississauga and West Toronto and holy shit, finding the spacing you want, finding ample parking, public transit, zoning laws, all this shit. Like I know you operate and that's a busy, busy time. And, you know, that's kind of my thing right now. So we have to find a way to make this kind of happen. And it's just consumed so much of my time. So much in fact that, oh my God, you know Retro Ralph, right? I do. I do. We talked about him a couple of episodes ago. No, it was actually the last episode. A couple of months ago. I recorded an interview with him in March and it wasn't time sensitive. In fact, it's very, very generic, just great conversation between a couple of content creators. I really, really enjoyed it. Every aspect of it, in fact. Well, he sent me an email on my personal email, which I never, ever, ever check. I check pinball profile. I check my work one. That's about it. If it's on Facebook, it pops up. That's it. But the other five emails I have, I have to go in. I don't check the beast every day. I don't check my personal one, the Canadian pinball one I don't check. And so he sent me an email and I didn't respond so he thought I ghosted him. And he and Kale and Jamie went on the JBS show podcast and said, I guess they're not airing the podcast I recorded. Maybe, you know, I could kind of sense Jeff turned on me at one point, which is not the case at all. Like it's just this so, poor Ralph, he got paranoid because he thought I didn't like whatever we were talking about. I loved everything we were talking about. It was fascinating. I'd have him on again, but I won't air it for months just to make him sweat.

But very interestingly, Jeff, when I tell people that are not into Pinball that I've bought a house, there's usually a bunch of questions they ask me. Oh my God, where is it? What's it like? How many rooms does it have? Where are you going to park your car? You know, there's 17 questions they'll ask before they might say the question that Pinball people ask immediately. It's not where or how much or are you happy? It's, oh, you bought a house, Ryan. Does it fit all of your Pinball machines? Do you have space for all of your Pinball machines? And I laugh, Jeff, because you asked me this question just an hour ago before we started recording. And the answer is, I think so. But for the first time in my life, if a couple of machines have to go, then that's okay.

    Didn't he just win BPAC this weekend? He did. Oh, spoiler alert. If people can figure that out, whoa. Although he didn't win everything. Didn't Jordan Treadway do well? Yeah, Jordan Treadway, local Melbourne boy that we've talked about a lot. He's a great player. There were four certified events, so four big tournaments, and he won two of them. A guy called Josh Burke, who's an up-and-comer, 21-year-old, he won another. So at a certain point, Escher, who usually wins everything, he won everything at the Australian Champs, Like six out of the seven tournaments or something like that. He had won zero out of three, but he pulled it together for the Brisbane Masters and won it for the fourth year in a row. Congratulations to Escher. Jeff, when I don't perform well in Pinball, I can blame it on a lot of things. There's always an excuse. Sometimes it's just not your day. I feel like usually I'm a better player than how I play because I get in my head and I'm like, all I need to do is do this and then it all falls apart. I'm just in a shit mood and yeah, I still haven't figured that out after eight years or so of playing competitive pinball. And I remember Steve Bowden somewhere had the bad beats story, you know, like you sit there and you tell your friends like, oh, this is happening and this is happening. I just need one more shot, but this happened and someone's phone went off or there was a loud person in the background. There's always an excuse. So I'm going to give you my excuse for playing bad at the Australian Pinball Championships. Okay, I will let you know whether it's a legitimate excuse or you just suck. Again, dodgeball Jeff. He told your amazing dodgeball story last time.

    I had to stop playing dodgeball Jeff because I'm a very competitive person and when it's pinball, how does that come out? You get angry and you scream at an object. Like, it's, you know, when I'm playing a physical sport and I have to throw a ball, I will throw it as hard as I can. I don't care who I'm throwing it at, you know, a little kid or a granny or a jacked up dude. I can't pull back my anger and my competitiveness. And I threw a ball so hard to Jeff and in the wrong way that I felt a little pop and I didn't know what it was. And a couple of days later my chest really started to hurt And I was unaware what was going on because I never had this injury before but there this thing which I believe is called an intercourseal muscle

    It's like a muscle in between your ribs and it tears sometimes and it doesn't hurt until a week later usually or a couple of days later. And depending on where it is in your body, I have another one. I got another one two weeks ago and it still hurts. But it's lower down. I couldn't breathe, Jeff, without it hurting. It basically, every time you take a deep breath, it feels like someone's stabbing you in the chest. Shallow breaths only. And, you know, I'm sitting here getting overstimulated at, you know, in this locked area with a hundred and something people around. And that was my excuse, Jeff. It hurt every time I took a breath. Is that a valid reason to play badly? Yeah, I guess if you're not feeling well, for sure. Can I top that? Sure. Are you serious? I laid on the floor. Yeah, I laid on the floor outside and I couldn't move and two people had to come and pick me up and take me into the Osseo. The Osseo kind of fixed me up. He helped me walk back to my car. At a certain point, I was really close to the car and I was like feeling embarrassed. I said, you can go, you know, I'm fine. He left and the same thing happened again. I had to crawl to my car. Anyway, that's how bad my back spasmed. I went and got an MRI. I'm like, okay, I have to fix my back. What's wrong?

    Well, years ago I had like a bunch of bulging discs and they were pinging on a nerve. This time I got an MRI and the doctor said after my results, hey, you're full-blown 80s. Uh, you have, your discs are bulging, but they're no longer pressing on a nerve. So your back is actually in better condition now than it was seven years ago, the last time we did this. And I was so confused. I'm like, why does it feel like it's, it's worse? And I'm sure Jeff, you know, people who are like, I've got an osteo, I've got a this, I've got a that, and you should go see him. He's the best. And I've been to all of those people and they never do anything. And the latest person said, I've got a myotherapist. He's the best. I like to keep him secret because I don't want him to book out. Don't know. I will say I haven't seen it. Toten remake? We haven't seen Circus Voltaire yet, although it's supposed to be basically just the same, right? No new code. From American Pinball? We didn't talk about that before. Good, great, I mean you don't have to get an IP for that license, it'll be interesting to see how they do the screen. I do like that Circus World Terror game a lot, I would like to see maybe some new rules as well, play original or play the new version. That's kind of what they do with Toten, right? And Funhaus before that? Yeah, it's interesting if you zoom out and take a look back that remakes have been happening for 10 years now, I think, starting off with Medieval Madness. And the further into the hobby we go and remakes, just naturally, I think, you know, unless they're able to reproduce Indiana Jones or Adam's Family or Twilight Zone, I feel like the success of remakes will dwindle down slowly and slowly. No matter what they do, you know, brand new code, new toppers, new this, new that. Nothing is ever going to hit as much as Medieval Madness and, you know, Attack from Mars. And it's going to get harder to do it. It doesn't mean that it won't happen. I guess just the companies. But even by when Chicago did the fourth one, right? Like, yeah, they did Medieval Attack. I can't remember which was first, but then Monster Bash and then Cactus Canyon. Cactus Canyon offered the new code. So I think they're going more that direction, hopefully. But then they redo another thousand Medieval Madnesses and they kind of sell out pretty quickly. I mean, the demand for, regardless of how good the code is, which I have no idea, the Josh Sharpe Lyman code, it's just, it's a harder sell. You know, like they're still original IPs. When they release Pokemon, you know, you've got this giant push behind it. And Many of the Madness is an original theme, but it has a following. How much of a following did Cactus Canyon have? 960 people, you know, and an average-ish kind of game. Like, it's hard to build that without Led Zeppelin playing on stage, you know, what connection do people have to Cactus Canyon? It's a very niche market. And what I'm saying is that all these kits, you know, Funhaus and is there a Fishtails one? Yes, there is. It's hard. Yeah, it's hard to get people to be like, hey, let's put this Pinball machine in a tournament and let's use the 2.0 codes. People are like, no, if you put Fishtails in, it's going to be the original one, which, you know, as boring as it is, hitting ramps and hitting monster fish. That's what people know and how do you change the community's perception on what you should play. You don't ever play games where you're like, I really like the shots in this game, I just wish there was something a little different in code. I get that a lot. Always, always. Yeah, I'm just saying on a sales perspective, I think it's harder and harder to sell people on that idea. Listen, I've always said Stern's Metallica, the original one that came out, John Borg game, might be my favorite Stern. To me, that's a perfect game. Single ball, wizard mode. Crank it up, baby. Yeah, and then they came out with Revisited, and it's better. It's great. You've got a lot more on there. Shots are a little easier to make, and that thing sold really well. Now when Walking Dead came out, again, another pretty perfect game as far as code. Rest in peace Lyman, but my god you were a genius.

ACDC, I think, is the rumored one, and I think that's in the same realm as Metallica, I think. I have an ACDC Pro that I've kind of modded up a little bit. Like 10% of that is going straight to the government. Yeah, I played it and I heard about the left orbit issues and I put like 15 games on it. And like, this is fine. And then I put it on location. And within two days, a couple of pinball players messaged me and they're like, the ball is going straight down the middle, Ryan. And I realized what it was. And they sent out an official fix kit. But I did a little operator hack. I'm like, I'm going to fix this myself, the Ryan method. And I just bent the ends of that orb at the tiniest little bit. Because what happens, the ball hits it, Jeff, metal on metal, then mushrooms, if that's the right word, like the end of that orbit. So when the ball hits that coming from the top, it just deviates because it's not on the rail. It's hitting like a bird bit of metal. So all I did was bend that like a couple of mil at the end. When you catch them, a Pokédex is kind of like an information, like a computer that will tell you information about the Pokemon that you have collected. And it's like a passport. It's like you get a stamp saying, you have found this Pokemon. Pokemon, and that's the tagline, Pokemon, gotta catch them all. So the object of each Pokemon game is usually to fill your Pokédex. It's to find every single Pokemon and to catch it. So when you play Pokemon, you're catching them, but it's not getting logged anywhere because Insider Connect issues. I was going to say, with Insider Connect, I know there are badges and the hexagons and all that kind of stuff. Doesn't it make sense to have a Pokemon page on there and it shows every single one you've collected? Yeah, that's the plan, Jeff. No, yeah, so I think because of licensing issues, they can't have achievements, I believe. But they can have a Pokédex, but they just haven't built it yet for whatever reason. So it'll come. It's meant to be a bit disturbing, the first half of the movie, and then it changes from black and white to color. I won't tell you what the premise of the movie is. It's one of those movies where you just watch it and you kind of, like 30 minutes in, you kind of figure out what's going on and it's just beautiful to watch this weird, funny movie. It's actually quite funny. Well, I saw four movies. One was supposed to be funny. It was called Scary Movie. The Wayan Brothers, coming back after years.

It's a rate of MA15 in Australia starring director Curry Baker. Yeah, I know a little bit about it. Well, what's it about? It's about a man who's obsessed with a lady and he will do nothing. Nothing will get in his way until he makes sweet, sweet love to this lady, including killing everyone who gets in his way. Well, that's not the movie. I don't know. I think you added some there. But it's a guy who does love a girl, but he's a little shy. I think this is in the trailer. I'm not giving away anything. This is all I knew going into it, and I'm not saying anything else. I really like her, but I just wish she loved me more than anybody else in the whole world. And this wish comes true. And she goes, cuckoo for cocoa. Is there some kind of sci-fi? I was in Tasmania for a festival called Dark Mofo and the guy who runs it shuts down the entire, like a half a city block at night to run an event four times in two weeks. Like he literally shuts, like all the businesses in there can't run after a certain time and I have no idea if he pays the businesses for loss of business or if the government is just like, this is too important for tourism so you just got to deal with it.
