Analysis

claude-haiku-4-5-20251001 · $0.040

TL;DR

D&D is mechanically great but thematically niche; market saturation and pricing concerns suggest lower sales and secondary-market depreciation.

Summary

Kaneda delivers a lengthy, critical analysis of Dungeons & Dragons pinball, praising its mechanical execution and code depth while expressing skepticism about its commercial appeal and market viability. He argues that D&D's niche theme limits mainstream crossover potential, that the current three-tier pricing model ($5,999–$8,500) is unsustainable, and that savvy buyers should wait for secondary market deals rather than purchase new. He also discusses broader market dynamics: pinball has become 'very personal,' expensive games discourage impulse purchases, and most premium LEs depreciate significantly within a year unless designed by Keith Elwin or based on classic remakes.

Key Claims

  • D&D will not open pinball to a massive new audience despite crossover appeal; Guns N' Roses fans didn't buy the pinball version despite it being a $2B franchise

high confidence · Kaneda cites historical precedent and marketing logic to counter community optimism about IP-driven sales expansion

  • The majority of $13,000 LEs sell for less than $10,000 within a year; only Keith Elwin games and remakes preserve value

medium confidence · Kaneda claims to be 'looking at the data' but doesn't provide sourcing; assertion is categorical and used to inform purchasing advice

  • D&D is not viable for location/bar play due to immersion requirements and randomizer-based weekly format

medium confidence · Kaneda argues location operators won't see repeat plays; comparison to basement D&D environment suggests poor bar/arcade fit

  • There are 740 D&D LEs produced (a callback to D&D's 1974 founding year)

high confidence · Kaneda states this explicitly as a known production figure

  • The D&D LE trim (red armor, translite, mismatched t-molding) is underwhelming compared to recent Stern LEs like X-Men and Jaws

high confidence · Kaneda provides detailed visual critique of LE cosmetics and compares unfavorably to other recent releases

  • Stern will sell through all initial LE and distributor allotments, creating a false perception of sell-through success before market reality emerges

medium confidence · Kaneda interprets early sell-through as marketing theater rather than genuine demand, based on distributor ordering patterns

  • D&D will end up in the commercial realm alongside Avengers, John Wick, and Venom—not a AAA seller for Stern

medium confidence · Kaneda predicts mid-tier sales performance based on theme appeal and gameplay accessibility

  • Barbie pinball would outsell D&D 5–8 to 1 due to broader audience appeal and crossover to female gamers and parents

low confidence · Kaneda speculates on hypothetical competitive positioning; not based on market data

Notable Quotes

  • “I think pinball now has become very personal for everybody, and I think—I don't know. It is a fiasco, Dave Sanders. I don't know any other way to sort of think about modern pinball now other than it's all become very personal.”

Kaneda @ early in stream — Thesis statement for the entire analysis: shifts focus from objective game evaluation to personal preference as the primary purchase driver in a saturated, expensive market

  • “I think it's a very interesting pinball year about to hit. I think it's going to be a buyer's market, and that's a good thing.”

Kaneda @ ~mid-stream — Defines the market condition: oversupply relative to demand, favoring purchasers who wait for deals

  • “I like this Dungeons & Dragons game, right? I highly prefer this kind of innovation and these kinds of toys. Like, there's no toys in Avatar. I would rather have D&D over Avatar. Now, that being said, I don't want to own either because of theme.”

Kaneda @ mid-stream — Separates quality appreciation from personal ownership desire—the core tension of his argument

  • “The Stern Army is big, man. I think we're going to see a lot of people say the game is awesome, but they're not going to buy it. I fully expect that to be the response on Pinside—that Stern knocked it out of the park, and then if you ask people if you're buying one, they're like, 'Nah.'”

Kaneda @ mid-stream — Predicts a disconnect between critical praise and actual sales; anticipates community enthusiasm without corresponding purchase intent

  • “Do you understand that Barbie would outsell D&D 5 to 1? Do you get that a Barbie pinball machine would actually open you up to new audience?”

Kaneda @ later in stream — Challenges IP-driven sales assumptions by proposing a mainstream comparison; illustrates his core thesis about theme-driven market appeal

  • “The only games that have preserved value are Keith Elwin games and remakes of classics. Nothing else. Nothing. Not James Bond. Not Foo Fighters. Not Venom. Not John Wick. Nothing.”

Kaneda @ later in stream — Makes a definitive claim about secondary market depreciation patterns across recent major releases

Signals

  • ?

business_signal: Stern's three-tier model and margin compression from maintaining Pro feature parity reducing LE differentiation value and perceived worth

medium · Kaneda: 'The Pro is the best buy...The LE is twice the price of the Pro. That's stupid...You won't have twice as much fun playing D&D LE as you will D&D Pro.'

  • ?

community_signal: D&D community sentiment split between critical praise and purchase hesitation; Stern Army enthusiastic but conversion to sales uncertain

high · Kaneda predicts 'The Stern Army is big, man...people will say the game is awesome, but they're not going to buy it.' He reads live Pinside feedback showing mixed ownership intent despite mechanical appreciation.

  • ?

competitive_signal: D&D positioned as mid-tier commercial performer alongside Avengers, John Wick, Venom; not AAA seller for Stern despite major IP license

medium · Kaneda: 'This game will end up in the realm of Avengers, in the realm of John Wick, in the realm of Venom. Like, this is not going to be a AAA seller for Stern. It's just not.'

  • ?

design_philosophy: D&D LE cosmetic design significantly underwhelming compared to recent Stern LEs (X-Men, Jaws, Metallica); red armor, translite, and t-molding mismatch criticized

high · Kaneda: 'I don't like the LE at all in this game. I don't like the red armor...I don't think I've seen an LE in a long time that has made me feel so underwhelmed in its LE trim.'

  • ?

licensing_signal: D&D licensing constraints may limit visual presentation; art direction described as 'serious' rather than 'fun and campy' (comparison to Capcom D&D games)

Sentiment

mixed(0.35)— Kaneda expresses genuine appreciation for D&D's mechanical engineering and code depth but tempers enthusiasm with critical pessimism about market appeal, pricing, commercial viability, and cosmetic design. The tone is not hostile but resigned and advisory—he's attempting to protect collectors from financial mistakes rather than celebrating the game. Secondary sentiment toward broader pinball industry is also cautiously negative (saturation, unsustainable pricing, depreciation trends).

all right we're back this microphone it unplugs by mistake the cable moved and then it doesn't let you just plug it back in this is why I don't like YouTube this never happens on Facebook I might have to go back to Facebook because it's just easier for me to do my thing and go crazy and flail around the damn joint um but when I get onto when I get onto YouTube it's just always trickier all right let's let's share we're back round two Canada back like I I just I feel like there's you know again I just I don't know I don't have like all right let's let's hang out now and chat DND D I'm gonna get everybody in here I I don't really have like you know I I don't know gang I don't know what to tell you like I think pinball now's become very personal for everybody I think it's become very personal for everybody and I think I don't know it is a fiasco Dave Sanders I I don't I I don't know any other way to sort of think think about modern pinball now other than it's all become it's all become very personal I I think you're gonna warm up to things that you're personally excited about I think the days of jumping in and just giving a game a whirl isn't really feasible for most people anymore because of how expensive the games are and how much money everyone's lost who's done that over the last two years um and you know I I think uh I think the hobby is in a in a precarious place right now I really do I think most of you are already in ownership of games you absolutely love and you don't really need more and I think this model of three cornerstones a year plus a remake plus all the games from all the competitors I I don't I I don't know like I don't know like it's like it's like the new golden age of pinball like there's more pinball coming out in the world every year now than there ever was before in the history of pinball and that should make everybody super excited I think it's it's Tricky though I Think It's Tricky I think a lot of people now when you look at a game like D and D you gotta ask yourself like do I really want it uh do I have room to put it in my game room and if I know it's not a keeper then I should absolutely wait and not buy one brand new that that's like the new reality and I know people don't always want me to talk about this Hobby in that way but I I don't know I just don't get crazy excited about themes that don't speak to me because it's just it's a personal thing and so I just don't and here's the thing too it's like I I think there's a middle ground I do I think there's themes like Godzilla where like I'm you know I'm not a DieHard Godzilla fan but I can appreciate Godzilla and I can get into Godzilla a heck of a lot easier than I can get into Dungeons and Dragons you know DND D is like it's like next level nerdiness and geekiness and like I think it's harder for a lot of people to get into DN and click with DND versus a Godzilla versus uh you know I'm gonna throw out another game like I think even like Iron Maiden right it's like you didn't love Iron Maiden music but you love the pin Jurassic Park is way easier for people to jump into it and feel excited about it so you know yeah like Chase I I look I think the game look I think the I think the under the glass elements of the game look great I think the cabinet artwork and translate artwork are pretty terrible in my honest opinion I just again they just don't look that great they might look better in person it's it's hard with art you can't always tell via the computer um but they're not popping you know from a cabinet standpoint I don't see the cabinet artwork is not blowing me away the translates are really bad um the Playfield art not really much to speak of right I think the mechs sort of dominate but the Playfield art itself isn't isn't really incredible so it's like I think an A+ in the mech category for stern absolutely come on gang like they they charged us 13,000 for a John Wick okay so like A+ in the in the mech department on this game I think uh you know C+ and theme maybe B minus in theme artwork is Like A B B minus I the code I don't know about I haven't seen it you know I again I just think it's going to be a game where two hours from now if you go have a boozy lunch with your friends and you you want to geek out about the new pinball that just came out in the world and you're like it's dungeons in dragons it's it's not as easy to get everybody excited as if it was something more mainstream and I I just think that's the way it is I think um I think it's a very interesting pinball year about to hit I think it's going to be a buyer market and that's a good thing I think as a pinball buyer everybody that Waits and sees on this game is going to be um is is going to get one for a better deal so I'm curious what you guys think I've been doing a lot of talking obviously I'll I'll do some shows about this and it's nice to sort of absorb a game and think about it a little bit more wake up hear some of the feedback I like I think what's gonna happen is this is this reminds me a lot the stern Army is is big man I think we're going to see a lot of people say the game is awesome but they're not going to buy it I I fully expect that to be the response on pinside that that Stern knocked it out of the park and then if you ask people if you're buying one they're like nah you know it's it's weird right it's like you can like something but not want to buy it so I like this Dungeons and Dragons game right I I highly prefer this kind of Innovation and this kind of these kinds of toys like there's no toys in Avatar like I would rather have D and D over Avatar I think they put more into it more passion more creativity I would rather have this game over Avatar now that being said I don't want to own either because of theme it's the same way like I don't want to own an evil dead because of the theme I I get that spooky put so much passion into it but I just don't want the theme I think the music's going to be good I'll spend money on it in location I don't need to so let me ask you guys a question have have any of you seen enough um have any of you seen enough to to say like I'm in on an Le right away I'm just curious I I'm curious if anybody saw enough to order and leie right away um I'm just reading some of my my Facebook messages I don't know I I don't think people are byy bye buying anymore I I don't think that's the vibe anymore of the pinball Community I don't think that's the vibe anymore on pinside I actually don't get that by byebye I don't even hear Zach say bye byebye much anymore I I don't feel like that is a good um sort of advice anymore for people I'm happy the reveal was early because now I get to go take my beautiful wife and her sister beautiful sister as well Sarah's probably hearing this to it to a lunch we can go get lunch earlier I thought this was going to be later in the day what's up Sarah you're welcome you know we might find you a a boyfriendhusband slash Visa slash green card slash come on gentlemen let me tell you what's better than DN d uh authentic off thebat Irish woman who's pretty with a great heart who's a nutrition who's a doctor is a doctor a doctor you know what she doesn't play Dungeons and Dragons doesn't play Dungeons and Dragons I mean I don't I don't Kevin Smith on call outs are sweet I don't care who's doing the call outs guys I know like yeah the call outs are gonna be great the callets are going to be great I think the uh I look I don't I don't see much I don't like in this game I just don't see most of you wanting to own it you understand like the the two things can be true like Stern could like Stern could have crushed making a great DND game which is I think they did but it's a DND game it's the same way spooky made an amazing Evil Dead game but it's an evil dead game and with Harry Potter with King Kong with you know a lot more emotionally like exciting themes coming I just worry if you buy this game this week I can already see D andle's for $9,999 I can already see it like inbox inbox when King Kong comes out it but see it's like it's weird to me because it's like it's not a good game for a bar or for a location because you can't hear it you you know what I'm saying like how is that good for a bar location like I don't know like role playing games you need to hear it you need to be immersed in it and you can't have distractions I don't think DND is good for location that's why you play DN D like in your basement where there's not many distractions yeah I I don't know I don't know look I I don't know how the Market's going to respond I mean I I like reacting to how the market responds I'm curious to go to pinside now let's let's go to pinside now and see what people are saying hold on hold on I I do think the again I think the hype flame on this is gonna burn out pretty quick I think people are going to say it's amazing but they're not going to order I'll read you some pinside stuff right now let's see this love what they love what they did with the voice acting but they didn't license their characters or anything really didn't want this to be a critical role theme or whatever that means in on an Le okay here we go dream theme and they had me at the gelous cube code won't be for everyone but my jaw dropped at each code feature yeah I mean I think if you're a DND fanatic you're going to love this game all right I've never played Dungeons and Dragons but this machine seems like it could be a nice combination of good layout and code making it a fun game yep I agree the pro appears to be missing some kind of diverter feed the dragon all right not sure about that what what did rare Heroes say it's a randomizer okay I don't even want to talk about randomizers so once again in 5 seconds my question becomes the dragon spits out pinballs but you can't shoot balls into its mouth and then it immediately becomes a question of whether the pro is good enough when a Stern is when is Stern going to quit with the bomb BS formula and make a real multi-functioning main Mech they love bash toys okay I don't know what that guy is complaining about here we go this is uh the random generator could use the date of the most recent Sunday to see things then it would just require the clock to be set right early take looks really good to me I'm really like the new dungeons each week and the key features like buying gear and saving progress and there too one thing I'm disappointed with is only four classes and not being able to customize your character ideally you should be able to pick a race species and gender and it would be really cool to display your character with whatever New Gear you unlock well that would be awesome but sounds like a nightmare for them on the code size um it's all about the code for me on this one someone said art package looks great on all see this is why I don't get this is the uh the D I don't think the art package looks great on all models okay all right franch is in the house um I love the pinball nerds are suggesting no one plays nerdy D and D there is a massive market for this pin uh no there there's not gang there's not a massive market for this pin and you you do you really think people that play Dungeons and Dragons you know what they don't play is pinball and just because there's a pinball version of DnD does not equal a massive market for this game I I really think some of you don't understand how marketing works and how crossover works with fan bases you're you're absolutely wrong that there's a massive Mark it's not massive this game is not going to sell massive amounts because of the theme so because the majority of pinball buying people are not DND D Fanatics and when you don't give the majority of pinball buying people a theme that they massively want then you won't get massive sales I don't know why this is always hard for people to understand I I really don't see I you know look will this open up pinball to a whole massive new group of people no no let me tell you what happened when guns in roses let me tell you what happened there are more Guns and Roses fans in the world probably than DN fans and when guns and& roses pinball came out do you know what the conversation was on all the guns and roses forums and fan pages where all the fans hang out you know what it was how ridiculously priced the game was nobody crossed over and bought it so I I think you guys are like out of touch with where the average American is financially where the average nerd and geek is financially who plays a game like DND D the average video gamer out there can enjoy the best in video game for just a few hundred bucks I think so many of you think that people will just wake up one day and want to spend seven to 13,000 on a pinball machine you you're so out of touch it it's it's almost comical that if you you think dndd opens them up to a massive new audience and I and I really do love this conversation because this is like the Wheelhouse I'm in is that I get it right John Wick is a two billion movie franchise did it open up Stern Pinball to a massive new audience for pinball to me this game will sell to where there is existing crossover where same thing with Evil Dead it it's going to sell where there is existing crossover fans of the theme and fans of pinball you kind of need to be both to to buy a new and box game that is is in this realm and I think that that is okay I think it's a lot easier for spooky to navigate a a theme that's nerdy like Evil Dead I think for stern we'll see how it goes I don't know how it goes gang like I don't know like they're gonna sell out of the Ellies on their website they're gonna sell through to every distributor we're going to get early reports that it's selling great don't believe that because that that's just dros who ordered all their aot allotment and it's just like again like I don't know but I will follow it all but I'm telling you right now this does not open up pinball to a massive new audience see this is why you guys are like I don't think you get it like you do understand that Barbie would outsell DN 5 to one do do you get that a Barbie pinball machine would actually open you up to new audience it would outsell this game 5 to one easily easily the amount of Executives with daughters that love Barbie that also grew up as Gamers would put one in their home you Barbie would outsell D and D 5 to one probably 8 to one gotta be honest 8 to one a Barbie Ellie would sell out instantly a wicked pinball machine right Wicked it would out sell D and D 5 to1 maybe not Wicked I take that back I walk that one back I don't know guys I just I I just think you sometimes I I think crossover is is you know collectors don't collectors that of an IP don't start collecting the pinball version of the thing so of course Titanic would outsell this so look look gang gang I I hope you run and tell every Canada I I like this game I think Stern did a great job on this Dungeons and Dragons game I can't wait to play it I don't know how to recommend buying one new in box though unless you're a die look if you're a DieHard D and D fan and a fan of pinball of course you're going to want to buy this of course you're probably going to want to buy an Le and of course you should buy an Le if you're a DND D fanatic buy an Le because is you're never going to sell it and you should have the nicest version of the thing you love that's why I own a guns and Rose's CE I get it I get I get all the reasons why people don't like that game it's my favorite band and I want to own the nicest version of the thing I love I played it today for an hour I loved playing every minute of it I I encourage you if you're a DND fanatic go get an Le but if you're not a DND fanatic and you just want to have the next Stern Le because you're have a lineup and you think somehow like having an Le is a flex move which it's not anymore you're gonna lose $3,000 if you go to move it on because you don't really care that much about the property to me that's where Modern Pinball's at it's not a it's just it's just where we're at it it it's not a negative it's just the reality of where modern pinball is how are you guys feeling right now I wouldn't fly to Stern Pinball to play this game you know I didn't get invited I don't care I'll play it when it gets to Automated Amusements uh I don't think this is a game where I'm going to need to do a raffle there's 740 lees's uh because D and was founded in 1974 I I look I still get the sense this is a little bit of a like I don't I don't know I don't think you can use the term filler game you know when Brian Eddy is making a game like he's not approaching it like he's a filler you know he's not just keeping the crowd happy until elwin takes the stage he's he's doing everything he can to make the best possible game he can so I think using the term filler game is is disrespectful for all the men and women who worked hard on this game it's not a filler game I think it's a pretty damn awesome DND d game but it's still a DND game you know like I'm an amazing podcaster but I'm still a pinball podcaster if if I was a podcaster about True Crime I'd be a millionaire if I was a podcaster about politics or life I'd be very wealthy I'm a pinball podcaster you know say big difference this is a great game but it's a DN d game um Pro you know what's crazy about all these modern Sterns is um is the pro is the Best Buy you know the the pro is a smart purchase because the pro will lose the most sorry the pro will lose the least amount of money the Ellie is twice the price of the pro that's stupid you know you won't have twice as much fun playing DND le as you will D and D Pro um but we all like that you uh you know thanks Roy I mean look I I love doing this so you know I'm happy to be here on a day off giving you guys content how long do you think the weekly Game Change will last um well here's the thing Jason I think the randomizer you know like think about it like if they have 20 different Pathways and they randomize it I think every Sunday they you know there there could be thousands of different combinations of how they randomize the game so I I could see it just being like for years I don't I don't think it's going to be that rewarding because I think you'll just get used to what's behind those doors because I don't think they're going to change what's behind the door very often but the order by which you experience things will be what gets randomized so I think that's how it's going to work I don't know like G I knew I wasn't buying this game going in I'm not negative on it I hope you don't think I'm negative on it I I just I I feel bad for Dwight and and Brian and the team over there because I just think if this game is 8,500 for an Le and 7200 for a premium and 59.99 for a pro or 5 like I just think if the prices were just more reasonable I think we all look at this stuff with a lot more enthusiasm and and that's just the way it is now thank you um you know I I think this is a really great effort in on this pin I think uh Evil Dead was a great effort I think we're getting a lot of really awesome pins uh based on themes that are a little bit obscure for the ma for the mainstream and and when that changes is is Harry Potter uh Back to the Future Goonies I think that changes with uh you know King Kong is much more mainstream so I you know I think um but there's something for everybody there's something for everybody and and it's really a good time to be in pinball I mean we got tales of the Arabian Knights is coming back so in a in a pinball World in which there's so many options now you know I I here's the thing with Stern like I'm never worried about those guys because you know in the end in the end if if let's just say like they they projected this game to sell I don't know you know let's say four to 5,000 units and it comes up short right it comes up at like 2800 or 3,000 units and then they just remake Ghostbusters and sell 5,000 of them you know when I think about Stern the the catalog they have and their ability to go back for future sales is is uncanny like nobody else can do what they can do like they're sitting on like think about it like they're sitting on titles that don't even require any development just rerun them and rerun Lord of the Rings and sell 5,000 more of them with new artwork right easily easily rerun Tron new artwork on the LCD screen better better lighting Better Sound you easily Batman right Batman 60th anniversary edition of Batman G great game's great one of the greatest coded games of all time one of the most fun pinball machines you know they fix the clunk on the later editions of that game Stern is like the thing about Stern is like like it's all the answers are there and the fact that they've got all these great titles in the portfolio they're gonna give us three cornerstones a year some are gonna be juggernauts some are G to be like this th look gang you know this game this game is gonna end up in the realm of Avengers in the realm of John Wick in the realm of Venom like that that this is not going to be a a AAA seller for stern it's not it's not it's just not like it's just the theme the theme is not there for this thing to move the code and the way you play this game is not going to be of Mass Appeal it's way no this is this isn't going to be a great onlocation game I this is a game you're gonna not why would you want this on loc you're going to go back to your bar every Sunday for the randomizer no this is this is a game much like Dungeons and Dragons is not played at jackar dndd is played in your basement if it's played at all I don't think this is a game for location play I think Venom's easier to jump on it and pick up where you left off but I don't think this game is going to be nearly as rewarding to play on location as Venom so I I look I think this is a great game for a nerdy DND pinball fanatic who can now geek out in pinball form the theme they love so much in DN D and I want to give Stern credit for the mechanisms I think the call outs are going to be phenomenal I think the music is going to be phenomenal I think the artwork is eh and the reason the artwork is eh is because we've just been spoiled with such good artwork lately in pinball and in in comparison to evil dead or X-Men or you know zombie Yeti stuff and franie stuff I don't I don't think this like elevates any of that but it does fit the theme I you know what's you know what's missing for me in this artwork it just doesn't feel fun like the Capcom DND D art I just wish it was a little bit more fun and campy it it feels a little bit like serious and I don't know maybe it's what they're going for so reminded me a lot of smow you know smog smow um the only thing I wish the dragon had did I I wish the mouth when it when it talked I wish it moved the way sm's mouth moved up down to simulate uh the call outs and when the dragon is talking to you and taunting you I I didn't get that sense that it was the mouth was actually moving with the words not sure if that's going to be how it is on the final Edition or not but I I didn't get that sense gang again like I I you know someone was just saying Jason was talking about a d and location it's it's really hard on a new PIN launch to not look at it in a vacuum right we're used to that right you get into this like tunnel vision of this is the game oh my gosh there's only 740 oh my gosh half are going to Europe oh my gosh that means only you know three 70 in America oh my gosh I got to order one now oh my gosh if I don't get one I'm not going to get one oh my gosh they're going to be selling for over all that's over with you now have to learn how to zoom out and look at the reality the majority of these $113,000 Lees are selling for less than $10,000 within a year new in box people new in box every single game now is losing money unless it's a remake of an old classic or it was designed by Keith Elwin every single game the only again I'm just looking at the data the only games that have preserved value are Keith elwin games and remakes of Classics nothing else nothing not James Bond not Foo Fighters not Venom not John Wick nothing nothing else I don't like the Le at all in this game I don't like the red armor I don't like the artwork on the right side which is the side I think most of us usually see in our game rooms I don't like the translate I don't like the fact that the t- molding and the armor don't match I don't like anything about the Ellie of this game I I I'm gonna be candid here I don't think I've seen an Ellie in a long time that has made me feel so underwhelmed in its Le trim I I think metallic leie remastered was epic I think this isn't this leie just does not scream you need this Le I thought X-Men Le was phenomenal I thought Jaws Le was phenomenal but the this leie just does this feels like John Wick leie if I had it like it just feels like ah yeah whatever you know like like no one who has a d andle I think is going to have a flex worthy item that is like wow got how'd you get one never going to happen yeah I I think the pro is probably gonna be the game that is just good enough right it's good brother I didn't see I didn't see Jack game of the year is gonna be Jaws second place is is barbecue challenge um I don't want to do second place I I think it's it's I just want to make I I just want to give innovation of the year what does that mean but what is the Innovation right does this make sense it it says innovation of the year and then it just has the the title of the game but what is the innovation I don't I don't understand they they should have listed out what the Innovation was Jack I'm gonna vote for innovation of the Year oh wait there are wait this is what's oh I there is the Innovation here what am I I'm like sorry my eyes are not working the battle fit Pandora I guess the scramp is the Innovation I thought Okay Okay so we've got the Innovations here so Jaws blck Jaws the Revenge challenge mode I mean that's a code that's not really okay John Wick Labyrinth ninja eclipse the danger room I mean I'm gonna go with the danger room as The Innovation and then I'm going to do Jaws the Revenge is number two Jack see I voted for you you hang out here you get a vote I do think the danger room out of all this unique stuff is the most unique thing that was put in a pinball machine this year best theme integration um is Jaws best game launch good let me see do they even have see they should have put Evil Dead we got this is what's so stupid like guys these guys don't make sense they don't make any sense so okay I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm going to go off on a tangent here how can you have best game reveal and not include Evil Dead like like Evil Dead was launched and revealed so like it it doesn't matter if the game shipped or not that's not going to change the way the game was launched or revealed my my friends over at the trippy committee like stop smoking that do like guys you need to stop making comment sensical mistakes why isn't evil Dead's launch up here when the game was launched and revealed I I it just makes no sense H gosh but whatever I'm gonna vote for the I'm gonna vote for space hunt no I'm gonna vote I look avatar had the best video I'm going to give it to Avatar most imp improved game Elton John final resistance Foo Fighters Galactic tank force Galactic tank force sorry that that baby laugh James Bond 60th puny Factory Queen Scooby-Doo The Godfather this is event I don't even want to I don't even know what this means most improved game I I don't even understand like why isn't Jaws on here I what does improved mean like it it like the code what is drained I don't even know what that means what is is that a game I I don't know I don't know what to vote for in this I'm just going to leave this category blank because I'm completely confused about what most improved game means yeah but I don't I don't I don't I don't know enough about any of those games I don't think any of those games had a real Improvement I don't think any of those games went from being like you know bad to good like they didn't they don't have they they only had James Bond 60th I thought the regular James Bond was the most improved I'm just going to skip that category the best rules in a game Jaws best art package um again I want to give this to Evil Dead I can't so I'm going to give this best art pack pack AG to 2 best wait what it best okay yeah yeah there we go best sound um Jaws wait what what am I going on here it keeps jumping around um do they have Metallica here for Metallica remaster I'll do too best animations ABA Avatar Barrios um H how does Pulp Fiction best there are no dude oh wait am I I'm in best sound it doing I'm not I'm not doing locations I'm GNA just Northeast I'm just going to give Jack bar if yeah that's it that's the only place I know look look at all these skipping all them next mods best interactive mod my God uh I don't know um I I can always come back and and answer these later oh I I like I feel tired already I feel tired already and I didn't even go through all those locations best interactive mod um I haven't I don't know if I've seen I kind of want to go look at all these before I vote uh H uh I don't know Jaws whatever I don't even want to I don't I don't want to do I don't I don't know I got to come back to these best non interactive I I all right I'll go to topper I'll come I'm gonna come back and answer the mods you can come back and answer your choices later on best OEM topper I can't give it the Pulp Fiction now because of like how weird she looks I mean Avatar easily best aftermarket topper I don't know no I don't know I don't even know what these are Congo I think the um I have to go look at them I I can't look at them all right now best pinball app or service I mean start Insider connect it best Convention Show I mean right now I think it's pinball Expo I I feel so much pressure here I'm going to go back and answer some of these best tournament I'm not best online community group what does this mean a pinside whatever what caned Community don't count I better be in here am I in here how am I not in the Community member of the year how am I not a Community member of the year I don't I don't this feels weird like I I don't like voting on that okay I'm going to submit my ballot oh my my God what is this I think there's a little motorcycle there is that is that going to verify me all right I'm gonna have to go back I'm gonna have to go back that was um that that was a little painful there's too much I told them there's too many categories it should be on the games there's too much outside of the games there's too much stuff that I don't have an opinion about there's too many you know Jamie Aaron and Ralph you guys like you put too much in there like I'm sorry but like what do you mean Community member of the year like what is like I don't understand like I don't want to vote I don't even like I don't feel like anyone on that list deserves not to win like I just it's like then you're just you're handing out participation Awards when you're not handing out stuff that like like again like I I skipped like 10 things and I'm still I feel like I just just went 10 Rounds with Tyson like it just too much too much but that being said go vote for for Canada I don't know right right it's just like yeah and and like they they should add photos and like explain what these people did like there's nothing nothing like I don't know like the excitement of like the logos of the games and the excitement of like the podcast C content creator logos all that it just feels very like it it's like you're voting on a spreadsheet not on real life anyway gang wow we actually made it like another hour on this like round two I'm gonna go get some lunch or cocktail got a nice dinner with Brenda tonight um I've already sort of I'm already sort of over D and D as just like uh I I don't know I just again like I I need to see more but again it's just like it's I feel good that I it doesn't make me want to it doesn't make me want to own it because the theme is not for me and that's and I I need that my finances need that I'm happy this is not AK Kira Fifth Element Transformers G1 the movie I'm happy this is not die hard this is not Christmas vacation I'm happy this is not Goonies this is not you know this is not Blood Sport this is not again I'm just naming things I would love to have It's Not Top Gun it's not Cobra Kai it's not Karate Kid it's not you know it's just it's not something that I just grew up watching or loving or or needing something of in pinball form I don't I I just don't understand voting for all three spots I I don't like I I've got my favorites and I got my favorites like I don't want to like I don't want to see my favorite lose because I gave more votes towards number two you know the reason they put that in there gang you know you know the reason why they did the weighted voting it was to try to get caned to lose for once that's it um all right everybody be good chat soon thanks for hanging out this as in Dave Sanders's terminology this was an Abomination today Canada trying to figure out this technology but I did buy a $26 Dungeons and Dragons t-shirt at the mall so that's as much money as I'm willing to invest in D and D yeah I know I know later everybody
  • “I don't think I've ever seen an LE in a long time that has made me feel so underwhelmed in its LE trim. I think Metallica LE Remastered was epic. I think this isn't.”

Kaneda @ late stream — Direct aesthetic critique of D&D LE variant; uses comparative framing (Metallica vs. D&D) to contextualize disappointment

  • “It's a great game, but it's a D&D game. I'm an amazing podcaster, but I'm still a pinball podcaster. If I was a podcaster about true crime, I'd be a millionaire.”

Kaneda @ mid-to-late stream — Uses self-deprecating analogy to illustrate how theme/category constrains reach and appeal regardless of quality

  • “I don't like the LE at all in this game. I don't like the red armor. I don't like the artwork on the right side... I don't like anything about the LE of this game.”

Kaneda @ later in stream — Unpacks cosmetic criticisms of the LE edition specifically; identifies side-visibility (right side in game rooms) as a design consideration

  • “If you're a D&D fanatic, go get an LE. But if you're not a D&D fanatic and you just want to have the next Stern LE because you have a lineup and you think somehow having an LE is a flex move—which it's not anymore—you're gonna lose $3,000.”

Kaneda @ mid-to-late stream — Provides targeted purchasing guidance: LE only justified for true IP fans; casual collectors face significant depreciation risk

market_signal: Pinball market has shifted from speculative/FOMO-driven buying to cautious, personal-preference-driven purchasing due to high prices and prior depreciation experiences

high · Kaneda states: 'I don't think people are buying anymore. I don't think that's the vibe anymore of the pinball community...I actually don't get that "buy buy buy" anymore.'

  • ?

community_signal: Brian Eddy approaching D&D design with full commitment and creative effort despite theme constraints; not a 'filler game' minimization

high · Kaneda defends Eddy against 'filler game' characterization: 'When Brian Eddy is making a game...he's not approaching it like he's a filler. He's doing everything he can to make the best possible game he can.'

  • $

market_signal: Three-tier pricing model ($5,999–$8,500 for D&D) perceived as excessive; secondary market data shows majority of $13k+ LEs sell for <$10k within a year

high · Kaneda states: 'The majority of these $13,000 LEs are selling for less than $10,000 within a year. New in box.' He suggests more reasonable pricing would generate enthusiasm.

  • ?

product_concern: D&D dragon mechanism may not fully leverage potential; mouth movement during callouts not as dynamically animated as hoped (comparison to Smaug from film)

medium · Kaneda: 'I wish the mouth, when it talks, I wish it moved the way Smaug's mouth moved up-down to simulate the callouts...I didn't get that sense that the mouth was actually moving with the words.'

  • ?

product_strategy: Weekly randomizer game change feature to persist long-term with varying complexity pathways; order randomization more impactful than content changes

medium · Kaneda speculates on longevity: 'If they have 20 different pathways and they randomize it, I think every Sunday...could be thousands of different combinations...for years.'

  • ~

sentiment_shift: Community enthusiasm cooling on new releases in general; focus shifting from ownership to secondary-market deal hunting

high · Kaneda advises waiting for secondary-market purchases; notes absence of enthusiasm even from influencers like Zach (no 'buy buy buy'); attributes to financial losses from prior new purchases.

  • ?

licensing_signal: IP crossover appeal overestimated by community; Guns N' Roses case study shows major franchise fans won't convert to pinball at premium pricing

high · Kaneda cites historical example: 'There are more Guns N' Roses fans in the world probably than D&D fans...Nobody crossed over and bought it' due to price.
